  • Bit late to the party, Gerry.

I'd rather pay more for less to avoid dealing with these knobs.

Anyone know of the best current offer for discounted JB hi-fi, good guys or Harvey Norman gift cards?

  • Should be able to do ~3995 to $4000 for the 77" for any stock held in store.

    • +1

I asked the HN rep for a better deal and he sold it to me for $4280 plus the $270 gift card.

      • Could you link a receipt so I could see if I can get a refund for the difference please?

  • Is there much difference between this and the LG G1?

    • G1 has
      * higher peak brightness in hdr,
      * 4 full bandwidth 2.1 hdmi ports; and
      * G series are designed for wallmounting, will give you a nice flush setup.

So if you don't need the ports for your setup and aren't wall mounting is it worth the extra $700, possibly not

      • I think a80j has better sound?

          and a better OS/interface

Now go back to JB and get them to take the $270 off the tv instead 👌

  • How good are Sony compared to LG/Samsung in terms or quality and usability?
My dilemma would be that Sony has shocking customer service - from experience. BUT I still have Sony equipment which integrates better with Sony TV's - i.e Soundbar.

How long do Sony support firmware? I still have an older 'smart' Sony TV and they stopped assigning firmware not too long after I bought it. But I've never owned a TV with integrated Google etc. My folks have a Android TV and its bloody slow to switch between channels etc. But theirs is a cheap TV (Teac). Do these newer TV slow down after a while or do they remain as responsive when first purchased? I don't really upgrade TV's often if I can avoid. But I am toying with upgrading my Sony to a larger model.

I rate Sony products great IF you get a good one.
I find they have garbage QC so if you get one that's crap, get it replaced with a decent one.
Their support is also rubbish, but I'm not sure any of the other manufacturers are better.

      • How hard is it to get a Sony replaced? Since I can't just drag an 80" tv into the store, what's the experience of getting a replacement like?

        • Sony's repair company come out for bigger models. I've had them look at 75s on 2 seperate occasions.

Also had them attend my parents house for a repair of a 55 in person. No need to transport.

          • @scuderiarmani: Do you still need to get Sony out if it has issues on arrival? Eg. Hearing the 83” sometimes has a vertical line in the middle of the screen.

            • +1

@Morien: If your TV is damaged on arrival it should be swapped immediately with the store. Not Sony's doing.

          • @scuderiarmani: Now that doesn't sound like good quality hardware…

            • @solidussnake: Every brand TV has defects

              • @scuderiarmani: Obviously

                • @solidussnake: So stop stating the obvious

                  • @scuderiarmani: I was just commenting on that you've had Sony out on three seperate occasions for your quality Sony.. doesn't sound good 🤦‍♂️ but yes I'm sure all brands are the same

                    • @solidussnake: HDMI CEC issues. I thought I'd get them checked before they wouldn't.

Nothing wrong with both panels. More just software bugs beyond their control.

As for the other smaller TV, it developed a line, big deal. Countless do.

Sony Android TV's are easily the best in my experience for long term support and app availability.

Having said that, I'd still insist on a media player regardless of the TV you choose.

Ive had TV's repaired no questions asked after 2 years.

If we go off last gen they really took their time to get the VRR and other key updates out that were there out of the box from LG.

        • -1

Compare how long it took both to get Kayo….

    • I have a Sony and a Samsung smart TV. The experience with the Sony is much better than the Samsung. But that's just me, there's probably others who'd say the opposite.

  • How likely is the a80j going to be taken off the market soon?

    • +2

      new line is incoming.

Sony cleared the last of their 77" stock from their store recently. I'd say its very unlikely there is any further stock around so really depends on how well they are selling but historically at these prices these things go quick.

      • okay thanks for the heads up

    • A80K release imminent.
This is the best time to vbuy A80J.
      Amazing set.

  • I saw the price and upvoted. But then I saw HN. Is there a way to remove my upvote?

    • You can revoke your vote from the votes link under the title

        Thanks ak47wong. TIL. vote revoked!!

  • Plus put it on Latitude interest free and get an additional $400 gift card on top of the $270.

    • Is this offer noted somewhere?

Spend the following on Latitude finance.

Spend $1000 get $100 gift card.
Spend $2000 get $200 gift card.
Etc, etc upto spending $10,000 and getting a $1000 gift card.

I bought a washer and a fridge separately recently at HN was all good can ring and ask for a deal, they'll knock 8% or so off for full payment, delivery next day so no complaints from my end. Seems hate here at ozbargain for HN I don't understand

Because A) Gerry Harvey is a grub, who B) kicked up a big sook and is the reason you pay GST on overseas purchases under $1000, C) talked shit about why it’s not worth helping homeless people and D) then proceeded to take a heap of JobKeeper and paid himself a shitload of profit via share dividends to his own company.

      • Ok. Fair enough.

        • And just to clarify: B1) built up market share with relentless advertising and undercutting specialist stores to put them out of business, B2) kicked up a big sook about GST on sub-$1000 overseas purchases when people started undercutting him by going elsewhere

  • I bought this TV yesterday morning, picked it up yesterday afternoon, set it up last night. It’s amazing. I highly recommend.
