  • 60hz

    • Fine for a laptop that isn't for gaming.

  • Can the RAM and Storage be expanded on this?

    • +1

      Storage yes. RAM is soldered.

  • Can't remember exact price but this is sub $1000 on the Lenovo Education Store

    • +1

I think you are looking at the regular IdeaPad and not the Pro AMD version. The Pro AMD version is not even available on the edu portal. Refer to picture:

      https://ibb.co/yysKjSt

  • Oooh… If it was just like 200 grams lighter it would be perfect!

  • so expensive. the price in China is AU$700, same specification, same model

    • where do you find that listing?

  • I don't think is a good deal. I bought HP at EOFY in Harvey Norman. It with AMD 5700U, 16G/512G Only $1098 also with $200 HN gift card. I used it almost 1 mth. I am very happy with it. Battery lasts 9 hours. Only 1.69KG. But it is the EOFY deal.

In response to what you stated from a technical standpoint.

The HP has the following which makes it cheaper:

5700u, despite being 8 core, is based on the previous gen Zen 2 architecture. 5600u is based on the Zen 3 architecture and has faster single core performance.

The HP screen is a lower quality 1080p, 65% sRGB panel, with 250 nits brightness. The Lenovo has a higher quality 2k, 100% sRGB, 300 nits brightness panel, with touch.

The HP is mainly made out of ABS plastic. The Lenovo is full aluminium.

The HP has only Wifi 5. The Lenovo has Wifi 6.

The HP has a smaller 45wH battery vs 56wH battery of the Lenovo.

      • Where does it say this is Touch?

        • "Multi-touch

          Yes"

I have been in store, and both the 5600u and 5800u versions support touch.

People have this laptop from past deals and have also confirmed it supports touch.

          • @shellshocked: Thanks .. Multi touch for the trackpad, or the screen?
I don’t see it anywhere on the JB site.

  • Is there much of a difference between the two CPU models offered for this laptop, Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7? Is one worth the extra $160?

    • Just get the Ryzen 5 one. Ryzen 7 is likely to throttle when having heavy CPU load.

      • +1

5600u and 5800u doesn't really throttle because they have a TDP of 15w, max 25w. The laptop has good cooling up to about 40w TDP. You can also use Lenovo Vantage software to change the TDP between three settings. 10w, 15w and 25w, depending on if you want more battery life or more performance.

If you think you will use applications, such as Handbrake, get the 8 core 5800u. If you are mainly using Office get the 6 core 5600u. The 5600u will be about 18% slower in multi-threaded applications, due to less cores, vs the 5800u.

        • Thanks.

Managed to grab Ryzen 7 from JB Hi Fi for $1,140.
Seem like an amazing machine so far
