Or walk into just about any Costco atm and walk out with one.

    • +1

..unless you don't have Costco in your state.

      • +5

Well sure, if you are one of the 3% of Australians that live in a state without a Costco then this is for you!.. For the other 97%, there's Costco.

        • +1

Even if Costco is in your state, they're usually located in the outer suburbs so not exactly convenient for everyone.

They need to lift their game and fix their online ordering to include everything that they stock. Heck, if Coles and Woolies can figure it out, they can too..

          • @OSienna: True though from the WP Xbox thread it sounds like people were ordering the series X fine from Costco online. Cant check myself as I am not a member.

  • +11

costso is selling for 730ish and there's tons of stock in Melbourne…

    • Good for Melbourne. Good for Costco members.

Not so good for people like me in (profanity) nowhere QLD.

      • true….. but I recon it's relatively easier to score a XBOX or PS5 from your nearby EB/JB because of less demand?

        • If only. Waited 2 years to get a PS5 in central QLD. Xbox has way more availability though.

  • +3

Got one from Microsoft for 645 after all the cash back three months ago

    • Got one got for like $605 :p Thanks Amex and SB

      • -1

        Got one for free…

You can always ask for the $200 deposit to be refunded at pickup and pay the full amount using gc.

  • +11

Full retail price is not a deal or bargain by any means.

    • +2

Especially when these are simply not hard to get any more.

  • +3

    Where is the bargain?

  • +6

eb are the worst to deal with … pre orders just cancelled numerous times…

  • -1

Is it possible to install linux on the X?

  • Enjoying the increased availability of these. Hopefully a permanent price drop is on the way.

  • +4

Low ball people on ebay, I got mine used like new 550

    • +8

      LOL…. I hate low ballers though….

  • +3

I still see so many flogs on FB marketplace thinking they can scalp these….

  • +1

Heaps of stock at Costco Lidcombe rn and $730

    • +2

I hear what you are saying, I just picked up a second hand one and finding it hard to notice any major difference between XBoneX I had earlier in the year. I think only if you have a decent tv that does 120Hz and hdmi 2+ stuff will it be worth upgrading at the moment

    • +1

Yeah play the one or 2 on Ps5 then you have a less functional paperweight..no emulators, no gamepass equivalent.

      • -5

PS+ is better than gamepass at every tier level.

PS+ Essential is better than Games with gold.
PS+ Extra is better than Gamepass Library
PS+ Deluxe is cheaper than gamepass ultimate.

        • +3

Lol yeah nah, even PS users admit gamepass is the gold standard.

    • +8

      I have both.

The PS5's only games of interest to us were Spider-Man and Ratchet. Spider-Man is on PS4, and Ratchet (while still pretty) doesn't look noticeably better than the 6 year old PS4 game.

Xbox has games going all the way back to the early 00s on the original Xbox getting 4K updates and looking better than ever (at no additional cost, I might add). PlayStation has Ape Escape looking blockier than the emulator on my phone a decade ago.

Considering neither really have anything current gen that shows shit off crazily (though I'd argue MS Flight Sim, and Forza Horizon do this better than anything on the PS side), older shit looking tonnes better (also with significantly higher frames and faster load times) is really the only point either can claim.

Xbox's quick resume is brilliant, PlayStation has nothing similar.
Xbox's WiFi speeds are swell, PlayStation shits the bed every time there's an update.
Xbox's online service as a whole is better, as it always has been.

PlayStation finally has a competitor to Game Pass, and most of the games on there have either been given away on Plus already, are or were on Game Pass, are on sale for $5 ALL the time, and there's no intention of day one-ing their first party stuff so it's behind the curve there too.

Xbox also has the ability to load emulators via Retro Arch and it is what I'd say I use mine for most, the irony that I can play Ratchet and Clank 2 on my Xbox, but not on anything more recent than the (profanity) PlayStation Vita, is hilarious.

All that being said, throwing aside the fact that Xbox does literally everything better, even down to the UI not being a complete cluster (profanity) of confusion like the PlayStation's…throwing all that aside, the two worst things about the PlayStation are the WiFi is (profanity) terrible, and the hard drive is (profanity). When you go and look in the system settings, it says it's about 665gb … THEN it takes over 200gb for system stuff (not before) so I'm left with under 500gb of usable space, which all of a sudden makes me seem all the more valid in saying the Series S' 364gb of usable space isn't that hard to work with, ESPECIALLY when it has xCloud going for it too with hundreds of games on the service and more to come.

The storage is my biggest hang up though because on Xbox, 364 means you can use the 364. PlayStation like to do things a bit differently (re: shit), in that they need DOUBLE the space to get from start to finish. What I mean is, lets say a game needs 50gb storage once it's all said and done. Put the disc in (or download it) and it will copy 50gb of stuff to the unit, but it THEN installs said stuff on top of that, so it copies 50gb into a cache sort of situation, then installs it into the real space (which now means it requires 100gb for the overall installation process) and then when it's done deletes the initial bit, so in the end it only uses 50gb, but it needed 100gb to actually get the job done. Which is (profanity) annoying when you're dealing with games at, around, or quite often over 100gb, meaning to install something like Grand Theft Auto 5, a game from (profanity) 2013, I need a good 200gb free on my drive initially, which is quite hard to do when you only have ~500 odd to begin with,

So back to your initial point here (I kinda covered a few things since you replied below as well to other bits), it's a good thing Sony only has a couple of games worth while on the PS5, considering you'd be lucky to get them all installed on there if they had any more than that
-PS5 owner with LITERALLY 11 games and a full hard drive, and one of them is Adventure Capitalist, which is under 300mb.

      • 100% this! I have both Xbox and PS, I pay for both the game passes to and I find myself on the Xbox far more then the PS5.. the PS5 is nice and I like the controller but the issues you mentioned are such a turn off, shitty wi-fi, literally having to delete a game to install a game because it needs the initial space, the UI does not come close to the Ui on Xbox. I’m just happy that PS finally stood up and took notice that XBOX had a far better subscription service so they had to up their game and do better, and even after doing “better” still miles behind. Wait until Xbox releases their next big game (Halo was great btw) first day on game pass and see all the PS peeps sliver back into their cave

Didn’t bother reading your thesis but just came to say Quick Resume is a joke. I just about remove games from Quick Resume every time now

Depending on the game you’re playing, Quick Resume keeps the Xbox’s fan spinning continuously until you turn it back on again… Quick Resume is only great, when it works

        • Works most of the time so to paraphrase you it's great most of the time.

  • +1

    Where can I get a PS5 from?

    • -1

      Who cares? ;)

      • I do!

  • +1

Microsoft paying for chip priority really coming through now. PS5 still as rare as a unicorn

    • Different distribution strategy really.

PS5 is available in Asia (except Japan) any time of the day now but xsx is still impossible to find.

  • Why would I pre-order when I can go to Costco and get one right now for a cheaper price?

    • +4

$60 membership, especially if it's the reason to visit.

    • +2

Using 10% GC discount will be still cheaper then Costco

    • Because I would never pay for a membership to go to Costco. I know it may be worth it for some (no arguments there), but definitely not for me.

      • Average of 20c per litre cheaper diesel than anywhere else where I live so definitely worth it for me just for this 😊

  • Are there many good games to make good use of it?

  • -4

This is a MASSIVE bargain right here. I was in Cashies the other day and they wanted 999 for a PREOWNED one. This is 250 less for a NEW one, insane. Who'd have thought EB would have a deal like this of all people?

  • I don't know why people can't let go of the RRP posts for consoles, they take up less clutter than eBay codes for eg. where there are individual posts for the same exact same code.

    • Atleast they are still a bargain

  • Hmm, do I go the series S or the Series X. Already have a ps5 but want the Xbox for gamepass. Anyone owned both Xbox’s, from videos I watch, there ist a night and day difference in graphics between the 2.

    • +1

If you have a 4K TV/screen I'd say the Series X is worth it. Otherwise you're limited to 1080p/1440p on the Series S.
There are also some games that Series X runs at 60fps, where the Series S runs at 30fps.

On top of that, double the storage space and having the disk drive makes it the better deal in my opinion.

      • -1

Don't swallow the hype about 4K or high FPS gaming on the new Xbox.. much of it depends on the game developers and their willingness to support those features.

For example, I tested Deep Rock Galactic on both PC and XSX, thinking that the experience would be near identical for 1440p @ 144hz, since the title had keyboard and mouse support. Sadly, I found that the Xbox version was poorly optimised for that and was easily beaten out by a measly Ryzen 3 system with a 1660s. It was 60 fps vs 160 fps

  • Plenty at Costco Marsden Park in display.

  • +1
  • $734 at Costco. A pallet full at Costco Adelaide today.

  • Demand amplification is strong in this one. As it fomo particularly for the ps5.

I'm interested in the retroarch and Emu space but also have an i9 pc but really don't need it except as curiosity.

A few squeezes on interest rates I think fb marketplace mat see people drop their prices..

Nice to see availability improve to make scalping a waste of time.

I just wish cars were more available. The shortages in semi conductors and amplification because of crypto…

Thanks OP this is a good price ex eb.

    • +1

It's the same situation with cars sadly.. I know of a group of employees at a car dealership who all placed orders on a Tesla Model Y the moment it was released, with the intention of reselling them at inflated prices. And I'm sure there's an army of wholesalers scouring used car ads as a day-job looking for easy flips.

Everyone is trying to make a quick buck with the low supply and high demand situation. Heck, during the initial lockdown period, there were even folks sweeping up gym weight plates and profiting off the increased demand.

  • Thanks OP!
    Pre-ordered one :P

  • Still plenty at costco lidcombe today

  • I've had both PS5 and Xbox SX from day 1 launch.

I turn on PS5 only for PlayStation exclusives everything else I play on Xbox SX is my go to console.
