Ozito PXC 18V 2.0Ah Lithium-Ion Battery + Charger $19.98 @ Bunnings Warehouse

3400

This is my first bargain post so I'll probably stuff it up..

Found this 2.0Ah battery and charger pack for $19.98 right next to the other deal for 2 x 4.0Ah + charger for $99.98
Inventory Number I/N 0370062

The battery by itself was about $40…

I prefer working with the smaller batteries as they're lighter

Seemed to have plenty of stock of both at Edwardstown, SA

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2022.

Rockhampton have 50 of these. That's the store to raid :)

      • How are you getting those numbers? The wonderful site that somebody created to check stock externally stopped working a while back didn't it?

        • +24

This site. Now that it's public Bunnings will probably try to kill it.

          • @Clear: That is a cracker of a tool!

                Not all hero's wear capes

                • @billdsl: Maybe he/she does wear a cape. I would wear one, if I could generate stocklists like that and share them. And undies on the outside, too. I would call myself 'STOCK-LIST MAN'.

                • -1

@billdsl: The correct pronoun to use there is obviously 'they', but you know that. It'd be great if you can keep your hostility out of here.

          • @Clear: AMAZING!!!
I don't know how it does what it does. But I love it!!. It's magic.
            Thanks for sharing!
            Definitely upvoted.

Edit: It works for Bunnings & Officeworks and doesn't work for Kmart & Target.

A heap at Malaga tonight, and looks like that stock website is showing plenty at lots of stores in WA, so maybe took a bit longer to come in.

    • Belmont confirmed restocked (near tool desk)- just purchased.

  • Anyone can check whether Victoria have any? Doesn't seem to show up on the bunnings website.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Dandenong has stock, they are a promotional item.

      • Thanks bud. I'm from the North so will head into either Epping or Thomastown at lunch time today.

        • I just got two from Northland (Preston/West Heidelberg area) Bunnings in Victoria, which is vaguely in your area, at about 20:30 (Friday night 04 August 2022) … and miraculously there were still at least 30 left. Maybe because they are in a weird spot, and there is no price tag at all on them. At Northland Bunnings they are stacked up just opposite (not within) the tool-shop/section, and they are kinda' wedged between two different combo packages which are both priced at $99; with big signs saying $99 (no sign anywhere saying $20). That was just before closing time essentially, and the place was very quiet, so anyone in that area could expect to pick one or two up no probs' if they got there around opening time tomozza.

        • Did you find anything in stock in Epping? I went to Craigieburn yesterday arvo. It show 96 in stock but the staff can't find it.

          • @Natsky: I didn’t find any in Epping or Thomastown. Apparently they’re waiting for the Ozito rep to come and unbox them coz they’re a promo item. I called around other stores and Mernda had them out on shelves already so I picked up one from there. Best to call and see if they have unboxed it first before going !

            • +1

@Mingles: I wwas in Epping about an hour ago. Plenty of stock now on display.

  • I have 2 x 4amp batteries. Any reason i should buy more

    • +3

      more power!

    • +8

The 2Ah ones are lighter and easier to maneuver in single-handed tools such as drills

      • +5

        yeah this

if you're doing flat packs or climbing up a ladder you dont want a screwdriver drill with a 4 amp lol

you're just doing extra arm curl exercises for no reason

if you're running an edger then a 4 amp will do your entire yard instead of running out with a piddly 2 amp

        horses for courses

      • Absolutely this. The 4Ah is heavy to use and unnecessary capacity for a drill. I have purchased two of these battery kits, many thanks to the poster. I would have preferred it came with the slow charger, as it apparently prolongs the life of the battery.

        • +1

You can have the best of both worlds with the fast charger if you only charge the battery to ~80% . That way you achieve a fast recharge without stressing the battery very much. The bulk of the heat-related damage happens as the battery completes the last part of the charge cycle. Lithium Ion batteries are 'happiest' at 50% charge, that also means not exhausting them all the way down to zero. So recharge before they are empty and fill not all the way, that way you will achieve the best battery life.

          • +1

@King Tightarse: Thanks for the workaround. The only thing is that seems to require more work and monitoring, and I personally don't feel it's worth that much micro-management to prolong the life of the batteries. Whereas slow charging wouldn't be an impost for me.

            • -1

@noz: Yes, personally I just charge mine fully because I cant be bothered monitoring and have quite a few spares but in theory, the above method would preserve them the longest. I do recharge before they are dead flat though.
The danger with the slow chargers is they have no charge monitoring, usually just a timer so they overcook the batteries by running on past the full point. Yes, they usually charge at a lower rate but the overcook effect will usually kill the batteries before a smart, fast charger which automatically monitors and stops when full.

              • @King Tightarse: Oh that's interesting .. the Ozito slow chargers don't do any of the smart type of monitoring … ? So when it comes up as green when fully charged, it is just based on a timer, not measuring??

                • @noz: Yes, as far as I know. Thats the usual way with slow 'dumb' chargers.

              • -1

@King Tightarse: Sounds like you're thinking of old NiCad/NiMH chargers.

If you try doing that to lithium cells they're very likely to "Vent with Flames"

                • @OnTheMark: We are discussing the differences between dumb/slow and smart/fast chargers for Ozito Li Ion battery packs - 100% no confusion with NiCad How, from what is written above, did you conclude "Vent with Flames" ???
What specifically, didn't you agree with?

                  • @King Tightarse: You can't do a dumb slow charge on lithium batteries, so the non fast Ozito charger will not be a dumb timer based charger - that's what I'm disagreeing with.

Overcharging lithium batteries can cause them to "Vent with flames" (If they're not protected of course - Lithium Ion chargers don't rely on the protection circuit to stop the charging process because you're then making your protection circuit the primary (and only) cutoff and you have no backup - it's dangerous to not have a backup when charging Lithium Ion batteries. You'll also be charging the battery too quickly prior to the protection circuit kicking in)

You can read more on what happens when you overcharge Lithium Ion batteries here:

      I have a bunch of 4's and a 2

I barely use the 2 but they are nice for small jobs some times like the others say

Not mandatory, but if you want something to buy (as we all do), good price

      • Yeah I've barely used the 2.5Ah that I got with the $25 trimmer kit deal. Good price but depends on the tools owned. I do use smaller batteries but they're tools of different brands lol. (Drill, driver, work light)

Good price to have one handy but the one is probably enough.

        • +1

Thats the trouble isnt it, ive now got Ryobi stuff because they had some tools no-one else did that I needed and now i have toes in both

The Ozito stuff is priced nicely though so most things I am sticking with them as they have always worked really well

          • +1

@billdsl: hehe it's not a trouble for me. Means I saver money not buying this? :P

I haven't done the hard calculations but I'm pretty confident the way I got batteries from other kits were all from deals here that would've been cheaper than skin only buys out of some urge some people have here to want to be locked into a brand like Ryobi, or Bosch, or…

Ozito and Workzone are the only batteries I've ever bought separately because they're so cheap to begin with. Luckily I bought up years ago before they crept up to $40-$50/4Ah

            • +1

@dufflover: True that, the ozito batteries have definitely gone up

At least you can buy pretty good Ryobi aftermarket batteries at a good price, but you pay the premium in the tools which is some times warranted

          • @billdsl: You can get an adapter for fitting Ozito batteries to Ryobi kit

          • @billdsl: FYI there are battery converters that let you use one brand of battery in another brand of tool.

    Showing as 59.99

    • Nope confirmed as 19.98 through bunnnigs web

      • Do you have a link? Trying to order this for click and collect but can't find it.

        • +3

They've taken it off the website like they often do for Aldi pricematches.

Your best bet is to call your local store, quote the I/N and ask them to put one aside for you.

          • @bamzero: Thanks. Found it in the powerpass app as someone suggested below. Though it says I have to be physically near the store. Dang it. All out of stock near where I am except for 1 store. Probably be all gone by the time I get there tonight :(

            • +1

@eek: Yeh they still come up in Powerpass but I'll refer to my previous comment ;)

Can still give em a call.

Great for modding and powering other devices like ride on cars

    • +1

      For toddlers?
If you want something more serious, just get the 2x4Ah for $99 if possible. That will power a 36V ebike/scooter/etc for a decent time.

      • yeah, I already have a few 4Ah.

I was powering the 6V ride ones, motors didn't blow either.

        • +4

          My 6V burnt out.

Got some 18V motors of eBay and just swapped it out, kids flying.

          • @scphotos: Burnt out 12V kids ride on car controller and both rear motors with 18V motor hauling 25kg of children.

Can I charge my DS with this?

  • Can someone please stock for me in Gold Coast? Tried finding it on Bunnings website was a waste of time.

Huh? Is there no stock in Underwood, Pimpama, Bethania?

        • Acacia ridge has just received stock, just bought from there, macgregor also has stock. Good deal battery alone is $39 so 20 bucks for same battery plus charger is a steal

      • Thank you!

        • Acacia ridge has just received stock, just bought from there, also macgregor has stock

  • +1

So I guess they're doing the price matching for Aldi, but have taken it off the website to minimise the uptake

  • +4

Interesting that lots of stock levels are either 48 or 96. Maybe 48 is the batch size, or there's something glitchy in the stock levels

    • assuming 96 might be allocated stock to bigger/higher turnover stores

  • Can’t find it on the Bunnings website. Any link to the page? The one I see is 2.5Ah for 59$ and has a different item number. TIA.

    • +4

I think they've taken it off the website so they don't get flooded with orders, but have marked the price down to price match Aldi

      • So in that case, visit the store and get one. Right?

        • +1

          Sounds like a plan!

In fact I do see that it's listed on the Powerpass app, but I can't checkout without the location being actually in the store, which seems backwards.

So, yes, saddle the horses and get thee down to the Bunnings

  • Any dummy cheap skins to pair this with? Might have to head to the local Bunnings this weekend.

    Already have most "standard" tools

  • +7

Word of warning. These won't have the same amount of grunt as a 3+ Ah battery. If you are looking to use these in a chainsaw, grinder, SDS etc I'd stick to the higher cap batteries.

But for a basic drill, blower vac etc..go for it..

    • +5

This 2.0Ah is best suited for drills, torch, radio and that's about it.

For blowers, any saw, grinders NO GO. Very short runtime and get chewed up pretty quickly. Also these are 5S1P which means 5 cells in series.

The 4Ah, 5Ah batteries are 5S2P, they have two strings of 5 cells, being in parallel they can deliver more current and because the load is split the cells are happier, run cooler and last longer. If you are heavy duty user then something to consider.

      • +1

I haven't used these Ozito 2.0Ah's yet, but I regularly use the 2.5Ah with my blower and have no problems.
I'm not a tradie or anything and don't need to do intensive things continuously.

I also have the 2.0Ah Ryobi that I often use with my pole trimmer and the only time I go flat is if I hadn't charged from the last use.

      • The 4Ah, 5Ah batteries are 5S2P

Do consumers really need to know how batteries are configured?

These are commercial considerations the manufacturers need to plan for.

The only things consumers need to know is how large (physically) the battery is and how much power they contain.

        • +1

Consumers may be surprised that a high capacity battery makes their tool more powerful or that they get around 2.5x runtimes with a battery that has supposedly double the capacity.

        • Because a cooler battery means you get more cycles, hot battery means it wont last as many cycles. Hot battery kills itself.

    • what are you talking about? lol

it has exactly the same amount of grunt.

amp hours is just how long the battery last. the volts is the grunt. 18v 1ah battery will give you exactly the same amount of power as a 18v 8ah battery. only difference will be the run time.

      • Before last year I would have agreed with you 100%.
However, my old man's 2Ah drill kit claimed to have 'x' amount of torque plastered all over the box. He measured it and it wasn't even close. A chat with the manufacturer showed that the torque figures were only possible with a 4ah+ battery. A follow up chat with consumer affairs and the manufacturers had to send him the bigger batteries. I'm going to take a stab and say there is a certain amount of voltage drop with only one row of cells. As you go multiple rows, this drop effect reduces as it is shared amongst cells.

        • Yes larger batteries of the same voltage can provide more flow whilst maintaining their voltage.
That is a slightly clumsy way of saying bigger battery = more grunt

      • the volts is the grunt.

No, he means power, of course. This is limited by internal resistance.
However, these can provide a surprising amount of current when fully charged.

  • Anyone pulled these apart to see what batteries (if 18650) these use?

    • Almost certainly 18650 but who knows what

    • +1

      can confirm these contain 18650

    • +1

Yes 18650, ok quality too. Have used cracked open some old packs for other projects.

      • Is $4 per cell a good price for other projects? Which brand are they inside?

  • Can I use this 2.0Ah on the 18V Brushless Lawn Mower?
will it be just 75m2 per battery or will it be unable to start the machine at all?

    • +2

i have the cordless edger and the problem is that the 2.0 does like half a yard

the 4.0 does a full yard

so with that in mind, as long as you dont mind changing battery half way thru or even a 1/3rd way thru then go for it

in my mind $20 for a battery and charger is cheap as hell given that you can use them in a heap of hand power tools

    • +2

No idea what current the lawn mower draws but unless it's really low the runtime would be likely be less than half a 4Ah as you'd be discharging at a higher C rate so they wouldn't last as long.

    • Need a minimum of 2 full charged batteries to start it and to maintain its power

3 4ah batteries lasts a good 30-45 minutes of continuous use so take that what you will

  • This is a good deal, but i don't need yet another charger. I already have a multi, a fast, a compact.

    Any suggestions to avoid e-waste
