Ozito PXC 18V 2.0Ah Lithium-Ion Battery + Charger $19.98 @ Bunnings Warehouse

3400

This is my first bargain post so I'll probably stuff it up..

Found this 2.0Ah battery and charger pack for $19.98 right next to the other deal for 2 x 4.0Ah + charger for $99.98
Inventory Number I/N 0370062

The battery by itself was about $40…

I prefer working with the smaller batteries as they're lighter

Seemed to have plenty of stock of both at Edwardstown, SA

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2022.

I'm sure someone will take it off your hands.

They do build up though dont they. I have 2 fast chargers wall mounted in the garage, and a compact fast charger that comes camping.

Then there's those slow clip on chargers. Have them sitting there in case I wanted to make adaptors one day.

      • thank you! i can't believe i didn't think of that, i've got a few of those clip on chargers lying around, such a simple solution

      • Then there's those slow clip on chargers. Have them sitting there in case I wanted to make adaptors one day.

Ditto. Thanks for that idea 🤔
I bought those bare plastic holders when they were on clearance but this would take all the hassle of the centre pins bit out of it.

      • The slow ones are actually better for the battery because they charge slower and don't heat up as much. Lithium ion batteries degrade much faster when heated. If you need a battery re-charged quickly, use the bigger charger, but if you're not in a hurry, use the clip-on one. I've been buying PCX stuff since they first came out, and had only one battery fail on me - a 2Ah one with a manufacture date of 2015.

      • sounds cool, do you have any link or image with instructions on how to do the clip on charger adapter conversion ?

    • Ordered due to messy local store.
Received larger battery and a newer smaller fast charger.
Ordered another one from another store, awaiting confirmation.
Printers are e-waste, shopping at hardly N a total waste!

  • Just picked up one from Kingsgrove Bunnings. Greenacre has plenty in stock but nothing on the shelf so maybe call early if you're heading to the Greenacre store.

  • quite a lot stock at villawood

Does the battery use a 5s balance charge circuit or relies on cheap impedance matched 18650s design which will not last long?

    • Bosch rely on your so called cheap impedance matched cells, for all their 10.8v, 18v and 36v systems, hundreds of thousands maybe millions in use out there no BMS. However, the cells are premium factory matched Samsung cells.

      • Thanks, I'll add Bosch, along with Makita, to my no-BMS, never-to-buy list.

Incidentally, did you know that Makita also has factory matched premium cells but one of them was (still is in new designs?) tapped for the internal controller's continuous supply so this cell always fails earlier and damages the entire battery pack prematurely due to impedance mismatch.

        • +1

As far as I understand Makita has the BMS circuit in the tools (and the chargers) instead of the battery. No idea about Bosch.

    • yes, it has a BMS.

    • +1

Yeah the Ozito batteries appear to have quite a decent BMS with balancing.

There are quite a few teardowns etc online, and more some more info under the Einhell name if really digging.

    Thanks just purchased one.

Thanks op will fit the sander now with dust collector on …

Is it a good idea to buy this and pair it with a skin only drill or impact driver? Need to buy an impact driver.

  • +1

Bought two from Caringbah. Still plenty left - at least 25-30 with a quick count. As you walk in the tool shop to your left.

  • +1

There were many left at Castle Hill about 1/3 pallet. Do these compact fast chargers charge as fast as the older bigger fast chargers?

    Edit:
    There were about 10 2 x 4.0Ah batter & charger $99.98.

  • +1

Just picked up a couple from Melton East in Vic, plenty of stock still there.

  • this battery works with this? https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-brushless-impact-w… sorry im a nub

    • Yep, PXC (Power X Change) tools and batteries are interchangeable.

Just bear in mind the above comments that tools that draw a higher load would go better using the batteries with bigger capacity (4.0Ah).

      • sweet, these will just be for backup ones

    • +1

I've used 1.5ah batteries and it works fine.

  • +2

Plenty of stock at Mt Gravatt (Wrecker Rd) QLD. 2ah size works well with staple gun and drill/driver for putting together flatpacks.

  • Ozito batteries quickily becoming the new eneloops

'Ozito batteries quickily becoming the new eneloops'

      Not now not ever.

Thanks. Bought it. Still got around 10 left in stock at lidcombe

  • +1

Thanks. Got 3 from Nowra. Plenty left, but old mate serving says they’ll be gone over the weekend. same as the 4.0ah combo right next to them.

  • Thanks, needed a second battery, cheers

  • Nothing at Oakleigh (MELB-SE)

    • Plenty left at Croydon

      • Cheers. Just got some from Mentone. They had about 15 left at 11am

  • For anyone in Brisbane, just went to Acacia Ridge just then - guessing around 60+ left so go for it

    • Edit - go to the tool shop, turn right and look to your right

      • +1

Thanks for the tip. Saved me effort trying to find them.

Just picked up two this morning from Acacia Ridge store. Can confirm there are still plenty left.

  • +1

As per above longer post, still > 30 units left at Northland (Preston/West Heidelberg) in Victoria around closing time tonight (Friday 05 August 2022); so if you get there tomorrow morning at opening time you will defo' be able to pick up one or two. See my above post for their (somewhat obscure) location within that store.

    • Thanks mate. There are still some items left but without price tag. I also got 2x4Ah with charger (99 AUD), which is nearby.

  • Tried to buy some but some dodgy bloke from Bundy came down to Brisbane and bought the lot

  • More than a dozen left at Carseldine. None at North Lakes.

  • Bought one of each, 2ah and 4ah.

    What skins do people recommend.

I've already got Milwaukee drills, grinders, circ saw, was thinking potentially multi tool, sander and blower?

Are they considered to be on sale atm

    • There were a bunch of superb deals on a few months ago, half price and better; that's where I stocked up. I don't know of any deals on at the moment. I'd wait if I were you.

      • I shall wait

  • Still plenty at Wallsend NSW

  • There are loads at Brendale, QLD.

  • Still 100+ units at West Gosford (CC Hwy).

    Ditto for the $99 deal.

  • Anyone found a solution for charging these off 12v in vehicle? I did find out that they released a 12v charger in EU/UK, don't think it made it here. Wasn't able to find stock of it anywhere though.
Are there other brands of 12v charger that would work with these batteries? Interchangeable batteries with other brands?

By far the easiest and cheapest option is a little 12V to 240V inverter. 100W at least.

They range from about $10 - $15 on eBay but the crazy cheap ones are likely best avoided. I have run a spare Ozito 18V charger off a cheap (~$30) 150W modified square wave inverter with no issues. In theory the charger will run a bit hotter than with pure sine wave, but I have not had a problem, and have a few spare chargers anyway.

Mine is similar (same brand and size) to this - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231840734073
But mine 5+ years old, so I can't vouch for the current quality.
Kmart, Jaycar etc have similar (larger) ones for about $60 that might be more of a known quantity in terms of quality.

It would be great if the Einhell 12V X Change charger was sold here, but I have not found a reasonable way to buy it from Australia either.
      https://www.einhell.de/shop/en-de/power-x-car-charger-3a.htm…

You could likely hack something like the the Ryobi BCL1418IV 12V charger to work with Ozito batteries, but it is expensive, and likely not worth the effort.

The Ozito batteries will happily charge if you feed 21V into them. In theory the inbuilt battery BMS might cut off the charge when a certain voltage is hit, but I would not reply on that. Charging them directly doesn't activate the LEDs on the battery like using the actual charger does, so there is some sort of communication between the charger and battery, or something it expects that it doesn't get from the constant current adjustable voltage power supply I used for testing.

There are various circuits for under $10 (EG, XH-M603) that allow you to set a specific maximum charge voltage. Paired up with a suitable power supply (12V to ~21V step up), that should charge the battery fine, and cut out when full. Since there is no temp monitoring, for safety probably I would just charge till 20V at fairly low current. You don't gain much extra capacity by going above 20V (4V per cell) anyway.

It's been on my projects list to see if I can convert one of my many spare Ozito chargers to 12V. I had a poke around in the charger measuring voltages etc, but it's not as simple as just a 240V to 20V PSU, and a separate charger circuit board - they are somewhat integrated, and so just bypassing the 240V side with a 12V to 21V supply is not simple. I need to poke around with a scope and see what is going on, and figure out if feeding in DC from a 12V step up module is practical.

      • That was the simplest way for me when going camping. I have a 600W sine inverter and compact fast charger. I think the charger only needs about 75W. I'm sure one of those cup holder inverters would do the job too.

        • Yeah the charger is rated at 72W. It will use a bit more than that due to inefficiencies. But that is only at peak, and for some of the charge cycle it will use less.

I have a little 100W chunky cigarette lighter socket style inverter and it seems to run fine on that.

  • I just picked up a couple of packs from Underwood - they weren't on display so had to wait for someone to go out the back and find them.

As a general rule, I'd say that any stores showing an even multiple of 48 remaining probably hasn't got them out on display yet.

  • 22 left at Coburg after i grabbed a couple today.

  • Anyone able to please tell me if there is my stock of this in SA still? I'm trying to call Gawler at the moment.

    • +1

Powerpass saying in stock at Gawler Warehouse

      • Thanks mate, got one! :)

  • Anyone know when this is likely to finish? They won't put one on hold for me and can't order online, hoping it will still be going on Mon next week when I can make it to a bunnings….

  • +1

Can confirm they were at Malaga WA last night, but on a shelf towards the middle of the tool shop and no prices marked.
Had to ask for a price check then grabbed a few.

Looks like showing a bunch of stock at WA stores as of now.

  • Still 20+ in Maribyrnong (Vic) today. In full display outside tools section.

  • +1

WA late to the party but now plenty of stock, shelf full of them at Bibra Lake clearly priced - https://nrby.in/bunnings/0370062

  • Thanks just picked one up in Balcatta… tempted to get another one thinking about it haha

  • Local store said stock.
Sales clerk denied that any were left.
Ordered online, delivery $14 so change to store pickup.
They rang and said can't find any and upgraded me to a newer fast-charger 3AH battery combo.
Already have 3 old fast chargers.
    Would do it again!

  • Many stores still have stock.

Everyone who owns pxc should be jumping on this.
