    Nothing new but thanks.

    • +5

Well, expect an increase in Prime annual fees.

      • +31

Amazon just announced a big price hike in Europe 2 weeks ago and given the inflation in Oz this is no doubt.

Time to learn how to live without Prime.

        • can we extend before prices go up

          • +1

@johnwinkle: Yes in Europe they are getting a grace period to load a yearly membership before the increase comes into effect.

          • @johnwinkle: Whenever you can get a year for $59 jump on it, I'd bank 3 years like PSN/XBL if I could.

        • +28

If you use prime video streaming, it’s still incredible value.

        • -1

My expectation it will be $89

      • When?

        • It hasn't happened yet. It's just happened in eu and I think USA(?)

          • +3

@Davo1111: the US raise was back in Feb, they can gift Amazon Prime as gift so people can stack up with the old price, depends if you want to prepay or not. However the gift option is not available here.

      • what sort of increase are we looking at?

        • greater than the current price.

    • +1

It’s been extended.. so that’s like new.

      • +3

never knew about this period, how do they manage free international shipping is beyond my knowledge

        • +5

They must have a steady stream of private cargo planes coming no mater the orders??

  • +6

It’s been like that for a while, both US and UK.

    • +1

No min spend is new. It was $49 when I ordered something a month or two back.

      • +9

Its on and off it seems. Was definitely free during the prime week period.

      • I ordered Dremel Sanding bands from June this year from Amazon UK, that was like $2 and free delivery.

    • +8

      That's actually far from correct.

      • +3

It might be niche, but the free shipping from Amazon UK seemed to coincide with certain Blu Rays increasing in price permanently

        • +2

Not just blu rays. Other things I had on my wish list increased in price also. In my opinion it was better value when it was free shipping with $49 spend.

      • +11

You haven't found this to be true? Any item I see on Amz AU is significantly cheaper on Amz US. Not exchange rate cheaper either, hella cheaper.

        • -2

For items fulfilled by amazon, it costs more per item to order a smaller quantity for Au market. Besides, shipping costs more and i am pretty sure tax is higher here than the US as well.
Operating costs for amazon is definitely higher here than the US.

        • Don't know what you're looking at but 100% of the items I am interested in are significantly cheaper on US allowing for exchange rate.

  • +3

does this deal apply to select items from US/UK? a item I'm looking at sold from AMAZON US still has the international shipping price at checkout

    • Do you have an active prime membership?

      • yes

        • Can you link the item so others can check

          • @Ninternet: https://amzn.asia/d/7yjCuEV

under price I selected the 80 one. I previously bought the same scratcher from UK and they shipped it free. might of changed since then

            • +2

@markdownhunter: Yea needs to be a Prime eligible item for free shipping.

              • +1

@MiscOzB: Yes, lots of items aren't Prime eligible, especially if they are bulky items.

            • @markdownhunter: It's prime eligible and free shipping but costs 111 dollars. Am I missing something?

              • @Jackson: You're missing the opportunity to get rich quick by manufacturing a similar product for a lower price. These scratchers are fantastic (tall and super study), and I haven't seen about others like them that can compare.

            • @markdownhunter: It's showing as free shipping (from the US) for me on the website at a cost of $111.

I paid $93 for this same scratcher 2.5 years ago - $111 doesn't seem like a bad price at all with inflation.

            • @markdownhunter: I think what you saw ($80) was the USD price, which is roughly equal to ~AU$111.

    • When you search for items, on the left hand filter side you can filter by seller. Pick Amazon US or Amazon UK and it should be free

      • +1

Still needs to be a Prime eligible item (so you'd tick the bottom box here as well as having Amazon US/UK as the seller ticked).

        • Yes that's correct

    • You're on amazon.com.au not amazon.com right?

      • I'm on the amazon app with australia as location

    • Same here and I have a prime membership: https://www.amazon.com.au/Schwinn-Tripper-Cargo-Trailer-Grey…

      • The yellow one has free shipping but is about $200 more - coincidentally the cost of the postage on the other color was about $200, Hmmmmm

  • +4

Prices were lower when the $49 spend was required. We just used the free shipping hack anyway.

    • Not true on all pricing. I've bought the same thing for years without fluctuation, except for exchange rates

      • Nope, I have things I regularly buy from Amazon US via AU and quite a few have doubled or tripled in recent months.

        • I get coffee filters for a non-Australian machine from US, usually a pack is in $20's range delivered, now they are high $69. Still from AmzUS - Hah just double checked price back down to $33 which is acceptable increase.

    • how do we do the hack again?

  • +15

Would LOVE to buy off Amazon.JP and ship to Australia

Anyone know a way to do so?

    • +1

buyee.jp - but its got its own set of fees/shipping

    • Zenmarket would be able to

    • +1

I hate how they never reinstated that after the Gerry Harvey tax came in. They eventually reallowed shipping from Amazon US/UK/EU, why not Japan? :/

      • I give HN staff crap about that when ever I am in thewir store - also never purchased from HN since. Still hate the sod.

  • +9

Check item on US url, see shipping to AU cost.
Then compare same item on Amazon.com.au site

    Example:
    AUD25.20+AUD14.95 Shipping
    https://www.amazon.com/RCGEEK-Compatible-Adjustable-Controll…

    AUD33.11
    https://www.amazon.com.au/RCGEEK-Compatible-Adjustable-Contr…

I'm signed into Prime on both domains.

    • +1

Haven't bought anything direct from US site for a while but when I did it also added import fees.

    • +6

They have definitely jacked the prices. I’ve noticed it on products I’ve previously bought from the US and it’s a lot more than inflation or fx.

      • +1

Yep lodge cast iron pans for example. A few weeks ago I was looking for a 12" pan that was around $65 with free delivery. Now its up around $100.

        • +1

It’s funny you mention that, an example of mine was a pan too, $49aud 18 months ago on Amazon AU now it’s $89aud

    • It ain't free. This is not the only thing to have this. I used to buy a lot from both and now they are so much the same. Usually AU is still a little cheaper, but it's basically the same.

  • +2

Any awesome items to buy from US/UK site?

  • +1

$122.30 shipping on Monoprice Monolith 32 Inch Speaker Stand from Amazon US :(

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Monoprice-Monolith-Inch-Speaker-St…

    • +1

      Item isn’t Prime

      • +2

Correct. But for those who, like me, saw this and thought there were more inclusions now… nope. Just a reminder deal, not a new deal.

        • BTW This is now free delivery

  • Was just about to cancel my prime membership trial, Saw this. But still nothing planed to buy as of now. I guess if a ripper deal comes I'll just subscribe to prime that time, (instead of paying delivery charge)

  • +12

As someone from regional WA, Amazon prime is amazing. Free shipping and items come often come in about 3 days! Hard to imagine they are making much money from me.

    • +1

Do they use Australia Post to ship to you?

    • +4

Yep I'm only regional Vic but it's one of those things that has really assisted adapting from metro > regional.

    • I bought a phone from JB HiFi Thursday 4pm ish. The shipping was $5.95 and ETA given was yesterday (Mon). To my surprise got a shipped notification within an hour advising item was shipping from Midland WA. Bear in mind that we live in regional NSW between Grafton and Lismore.
Next morning Fri at 11am, we get an email from Toll Express Item out for delivery, sure enough at 15.30 the phone was in my hot little hands. How can they do airfreight for six bucks? I assume they dip a little into their profit margin to keep the freight more than competitive with the likes of Amazon.

Also bear in mind how a mega trader has purchasing power, typically buying merchandise at 35-40% below RRP. In the case of the phone it was sold for half price as a run out item, so like you bboarder they don't get much from me, but that's what being an ozbargainer is all about :o)

  • +3

Just beware, if you order from overseas:-
    1. Returns/Warranty claims will take longer (and more hassle)
    2. Warranty will be less
    3. Price (may) not be better (price jack)

Just sum up the savings (if any) before pushing the Buy button

    • Good advice, I have mainly bought either musical items (which are ridiculously priced here in some cases) nd 3d bluray which aren't available here.

  • +1

Time to buy that tank I've always wanted.

    • +2

      made in russia one ?

  • +1

Found this frustrating with kids items, 99USD on Amazon.com, 300 AUD for the prime version shipped from USA.

    • Yes, noticed that as well. Found lots of items on Amazon US sold by Amazon which were a fraction of the price than the same item sold via the AU website through Amazon US. And these were not heavy bulky items, they were in fact very small and light.

I suspect Amazon AU tries to prey on the unsuspecting customers who order via the AU website by charging a massive premium even though they could in theory order via the US website and even after shipping and charges they would still be saving a tonne of money.

  • -8

I'd rather buy from Gerry than give money to Bezos

    • +1

Then ya gonna get negged bad

    • +1

That low life mongrel scumbag hasn't gotten and will never get 1c more from me.

      • +1

Same here. (I assume we both mean Gerry)

  • +3

What to buy? That's the question.

    • Klipsch R-15PM works out to be around $400.

      This is around $800 locally

      • -1

        Anything else?

  • +1

Not always a bargain if you have other shipping options from the UK. Just checked an item I purchased that cost me $43 including postage from the UK and on Au it is $59.

  • +1

I hardly find anything from the US or UK under $20! They just don't sell anything cheaper there OR has Amazon managed to restrict those items from being visible to Australia under Prime category?

Where are the cheap gadgets, books, stationery, groceries? Pretty sure you get many sub $5 items on Amazon US Prime like you do on Amazon AU Prime but we aren't able to buy them I reckon. Possibly only the items with a high value and margin are visible to us (to cover at least a part of postage cost).

  • is there a way to search for eligible items?

  • everything is marked up a tonne anyway. still cheaper to buy from Amazon US or UK and pay delivery…for me anyway
