    "Pro-rata refund avaliable"

Does this mean you can cancel after you get the payment after 60 days and be refunded most of the $150 fee?

    • +2

      That would be it

    • Yes

    • +13

to get the max refund, cancel the card as soon you see signup bonus in your Qantas FF account. I recently signed up for the 100k offer with $295 fee.
Did the min spend in first few days. Bonus points came through in the first statement itself. The first statement was generated within 2 weeks of the card being issued.
Closed the card on the 16th Day and got the entire fee of A$295 refunded.

      • +6

If I was the banks I’d put you on the ultimate blacklist for those legendary shenanigans!

        • +7

Lol! Catch me if you can!
Btw - CBA just posted a A$9.7bil profit. This is just peanuts for the big4.

          • +2

@maverick1: Peanuts? Mate this literally would be crumbs lol.

          • +1

@maverick1: Yeah big time, the banks only reap in profits, society be damned. Take anything from the banks you can coz they sure would take the shirt off your back if they legally could.

      • +1

my statement took 4 weeks.. perhaps depends on the cycle.. but I got $270 back..

        • Yep. The cycle worked well for me.

    • +1

I'm cancelling my card right now and this is what the chat is saying:

Thanks for waiting **** the pro rata refund will be $250 as the annual fee was only charged 29/07. This will take approx 10 business days to process.

Looks like I am getting a full refund of my annual fee

      • Is the pro-rata refund automatically calculated and applied once the card is closed or do you need to contact them to get that refund?

        • +1

you have to contact them via chat. I think the option is on the webpage, once you are logged in, look for close account option, that will redirect you the the chat window.

          • @maverick1: Could you tell us what you say when you chat, “I’m thinking about canceling my card but could I have a pro-rate annual fee refund?”

            • +1

@tess1988: I just cancelled via chat. Just tell the person that you want to cancel your credit card. You don't need to ask it in the form of a question.
They'll double check a couple of details and then ask for your BSB and Account number for the prorata refund.
              Pretty painless.

      • I thought the fees was $295 for NAB

      • How does refund get processed? to a designated bank account or as credit??

      • Curious, how did they refund you? As a credit or cheque? As based on past experience from other banks they need the balance to be 0 before you/they can close the account. If its a credit $250 how did you withdraw it as the card cancelled. Is it a cheque or bank transfer?

        • +2

not sure why i got -1 vote but I'm curious as well. Quick bot chat on NAB site said below. So I assume when you close your credit card, pro-rate refund will be credited to your final statement and you have to call NAB to get it bank? I've also found some posts on FF forums where when they called to cancel the card (NAB signature), staff asked for a bank account and few days later they got a refund.

If your credit card is closed and the balance is in credit on your final statement, you can have this amount transferred to a nominated bank account.

          • @twistedbow: Thanks for sharing. Its a pretty genuine question we asked

  • is this the best value bonus QFF out there? Or is there a better one??

    • If you take into account a pro-rata refund of the annual fee (that can be 100%), then this for sure.

      • yeh i don't think i can spend 2k within just a few days.

        • Within a few days?

        • +1

          Gift cards

      • If you're assuming a 100% refund of the annual fee then the NAB Qantas Signature card would be better.

        • Hi, what is the income requirement for the NAB signature card?

          • +1

@anna10: I don't think there is a set limit anymore. It depends on your circumstances.

    • -1

This with ANZ will get you 110k points. Have to be an existing customer and pay $95fee

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/712643

      • That's a lot of points for a platinum card!

Point value decline it would seem.

St George have 60k points with no fee first year (existing customer offer, so can't link it).

      • +1

is this is best one if i already have the ANZ one? i need a card to churn lol

      • $295

    • +1

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black with 160k points is a better deal. You're slugged a (net) $200 annual fee, but you can swap ~40k points (or 30k, currently) for a $200 gift card to offset it. So net 120k+ points for effectively $0 as well as two lounge passes.

      • Thanks, will look at the ANZ

      • Do you have a link for this. I can only see black with 100k points and bonus 30k after 12 months

          • +2

@Heybargain: I recently applied for this successfully with my 12 months resetting. My process:
            1. Create progress saver account (hey that’s me in 2nd comment in the link above from 5 months ago… heh, still works)
            2. Use app, click 160k offer in app
            3. Web link says 130k, but sign in to web page then should say 160k (or go back to app and click link again (and again (and again, until it works!)))
            4. Upload payslips multiple times, phone them, upload some more times, phone again, upload again, email them, upload again, and finally they receive them
            5. Approved
            6. Wait by the letterbox patiently while checking OzBargain continuously (I’m at this step now)
            7. Now do the usual…. make min spend, get points, close account, set reminder for 12 months to reapply

  • The eligibility requirements for NAB Qantas cards is constantly changing.

This is the one from the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature card I applied for late last year: "This bonus Qantas Points offer is not available to existing customers who have received or are entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards bonus Points for a new personal NAB Qantas Rewards credit card in the twelve months prior to the opening of a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card, NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card or NAB Qantas Rewards Card account."

within 12 months from holding a card vs within 12 months from opening the card.

    • +2

      isn't this the usual criteria?
"in the twelve months prior to the opening … " sounds like the usual 12 months from the day you close your previous card.

      • Sorry, I focused on the wrong words.

There's a difference between "received bonus points in the twelves months prior to the opening of a card" and other credit card offers which is usually something to the effect of "within 12 months from holding [previous] card."

If I lasted opened a card in January 2021, receive points in March 2021, close account in June 2021. The terms I quoted above implies I can open up another card to obtain eligible points in March 2022, rather than wait until June 2022.

        • It does say " have received or are entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards bonus Points". To me that means it's after your account has been closed.

          • @Autonomic: Aren't you entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards bonus points once you meet the spend criteria?

    • +1

Pretty sure they are all 12 months from closing.
Not sure I've seen any from opening…

      • Not according to the eligibility criteria when I signed up.

  • How much are 70k points worth ?

    • Usual rate is 1c/p .

    • -3

      Approx 20 lettuces

    • +2

For easily redeemable stuff, best value is about 0.8c per point. Points are worth a fair bit more if you can get rewards flights but it's not easy if you don't have status and aren't highly flexible.

  • +1

    Anyone know minimum salary requirements?

    • +1

      Pretty sure its $35,000

      • -1

        weekly or fortnightly?

  • where is the information on the pro-rata refund? can't seem to find it in the Terms and Conditions?

    • it isn't. have a read of the previous posts regarding this product and you'll see comments about people who have been able to obtain the pro-rata refund.

  • Does existing customers include business accounts? Like if you have a credit card through your company?

  • +2

Whilst this is a decent bonus, I'd recommend waiting for the Signature card to go to 100k (+30k in the second year) if you have the income to service it - seems to have run every 4 months or so through TCM.

  • +1

F#! Qantas and f#! Alan Joyce.

Just had a flight moved from end of the day to the very start of the day, because they cancelled every other flight from my regional airport on Fridays.

I chose the last flight of the day because I'll be away for work for 10 days, and I wanted to spend the Friday with my kids before leaving Sydney for o/s on the Saturday morning. Now it looks like I'll be twiddling my thumbs in Sydney for a day instead.

Rex and others have no problems, because they didn't illegally terminate their ground crew and find themselves suffering the consequences.

  • +1

Thank you op. Applied and approved.

    • how long did approval take?

  • Already a NAB signature customer. Paying $395 annual fee for this convenience.

Looking for bonus points card, ideally with a zero or very low card fee, have some big expenses coming up and want to maximise hopefully a bonus on these large payments.
Citibank as suggested above needs to be an existing customer.
    ANZ has $295 fee

    Open to suggestions please

    • I am in same boat, stuck with NAB due to home loan. Which ones do you prefer airline points or Cashback ones?

      • Cashback?
I thought was only Qantas or Velocity bonus points? What are the cashback bonuses?

        • Something like this where you can use the points for GCs.
Or this where the points are credited back as Credit card fee rebate,

    • Have a look through these to see if any suits
      https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/#qantas-frequent-…

    • How big are we talking. If by big you mean like $10k, I would try for multiple sign up bonuses. If it is more like >$50k then choosing a good point scoring card could make sense.

The highest tier Macquarie card offers (last time I checked anyway) equivalent of 1% cashback in the form of gift cards. So $50k spend = $500 gift card. That card is currently only offered to people with mortgages with Macquarie. My current Westpac credit card would only pay $333 in gift cards.

  • Congrats for those got approved. I havent got approved for any credit card in the last 2-3 years since i started renting and renting out my own home, perhaps too complicated for them. been churning before that. Steady and growing income, normal payg here

    • -1

How many times and how often did you churn? You sure you didn't just get a ban from various lenders?

      • Roughly once a year, and thats also diff banks (and their group too). I used the card for 10-11 months for each card, sometime more if i can get annual fee waived (long time back before Royal coms). So I was pretty generous using their card so they made profit from merchant fees.

Yes i thought i am banned, but then my Mrs also had hard times to get. I occasionally omce or twice add her as additional holder.

How do we find out if we got banned? Im pretty sure i got banned from citi (applied direct and tried coles as well - got immediate rejection lol)

  • Am I eligible if I recently closed a Citibank card? (Now owned by NAB)

    • Yeah you are

      • I have wondered same.

@ehty, can you clarify / on what do you base this? I'm hoping you are correct.

        • I got this from NAB and Citi chat

  • Does a Virgin Money credit card count as NAB issued?

    • Hi, did you ever find this out?

  • Just wondering if I can pay my council rate for the $2000 spend?

    • Me too, did you find out?

      • No, I did not.

        • +2

I had paid and it got counted , confirmed here too

  • FYI, if you are a first time NAB customer then they may ask you to come into any branch for ID verification. I put in my license and medicare details but I still have to visit a brach… Not sure if this applies to everyone else or just me.

    • I went through a similar process even though I went through the online verification process successfully. They finally agreed to complete the application after I called them and argued that I had completed the online verification with no issues so had no reason to go into a branch.

    • Not for me with NAB.
Westpac was the one requested that I needed to visit one of their branches for the ID verification and that was during Covid lockdown.

  • Does anyone know if I can use the card (digital payment) before the physical card arrives?

  • +5

Cancelled today; asked for refund in live chat and was told

    Payout figure Is $270.43 CR

Gave BSB and acc to put it into and that was it. Didnt have to push for it at all

    • thx for confirming this. CHAMP.

  • Could anyone please advise on how long it takes from pre-approval to approval after submitting documents? Thank you.

    • +1

5 days for mine to be approved.

  • ok I received the card and spent 2k in 2 days. when do I cancel it? once 70k points are in my qantas account? how long it will take? chewers OP

  • +1

1st statement received today and confirmed the bonus points are there on the statement.
I paid my council fees and yes it was counted.

    • Same here
I can see the points in the statement but not in Qantas account yet. Any idea when it will be shown in QFF?

      • +1

most cases you should have them in a day or two.

Nab had issues with qff points being issued on statements generated earlier this month. They were finally able to get it sorted about 5 days later but that was after continually following up (they mentioned it was a system issue).

    • Got the points in Qantas app and cancelled the card to get the full $150 refund.
It’s time to churn another card. Any good deal?

      • The points just appeared in my QFF.
Did you pay off your credit card before cancelling?

I got the ANZ black card at the same time with this card. Waiting for another 160000 points soon…

      • Cancelled and received the full refund of the fee.

        • It seems you keep following my steps :)
What is your next churning move?
My next target is HSBC platinum creditcard with 120,000 bonus points ($500 gifrcards) with zero fees for HSBC existing customer.
