  • Is there a credit card that has a 100$ credit limit? curious

most of the ones ive seen are at a 500$ min limit

Why do you want a CC with $100 limit? That's as useful as a chocolate teapot.

    • just sign up for Zip and use their virtual credit cards - very low limit

      • How many virtual credit cards can you make and can you set limit spending on monthly, weekly or yearly etc?

  • Is there a limit to the amount of you can balance transfer?

    • +1

Balance transfer must be requested upon application and you can transfer up to 90% of your available credit limit from credit and store cards not issued by HSBC

  • I have an email from HSBC for the platinum card with 120,000 points 0$ first year annual fee and the balance transfer offer for 26 months. It may be targeted so check your email if you have an existing HSBC account.

Be aware that the comments on that post say you can transfer 120k points to $600 cashback but HSBC have since downgraded their points and now 24k points is equal to $100.

        • yup, can confirm dodgy hsbc - on call right now as it was $600 cashback when I signed up (May) but only able to redeem 500..

cust care staff going in circles, essentially dodging the issue…

          • @dcomo: Would you be able to update if you manage to get it resolved? I’m still sitting on my 120k points and not sure what I’m doing with them now.

    • +1

Just a note for those who don't know, you either get the points, or the 0% Balance transfer offer. Not both

Seems not mentioning in the OP deals page
But now you also get 2 Airport lounge passes every year (via Lounge Key)

Its written in this page: https://www.hsbc.com.au/credit-cards/products/platinum/balan…
    T&C: https://www.hsbc.com.au/content/dam/hsbc/au/docs/credit-card…

Besides, if you work with a company that has corporate partnership with HSBC

        no worries :)

Another good to consider benefit of this card is the free Instant Savings membership

Its offered by the same company as Entertainment Book
But with lesser offers and slightly lower discount
(eg. 20% off bills instead of 25% off)

While Entertainment book is no longer attractive anymore in 2022
Still a good add-on as for the free membership

        Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.frequen…

Best I have found useful with the Instant Savings app is the McCafe buy 1 get 1 free hot beverage deals
Unlike Entertainment book that you can only redeem once per membership
Instant Savings deals can be redeemed once a day
I have been buying many coffess from McD during lock down last year, using this B1G1 offer

        • How long does it usually take to get the email from HSBC for access to this? I just got the HSBC CC

          • @Adz12: Applied back in 2019
Took a month time from credit card approval to receiving Frequent Values membership email

        • Received an email for this deal yesterday from HSBC. But in the email doesn't come with membership number and temporary password!

How you all find the membership number and temporary password?

          • @aiyoyo: Back in 2019 when I got the membership
the username and temporary password is within the Activation Step in the email
The text are pretty small and easily overlook imo …

    • Do they allow to stack up the offer above and the corporate partnership benefits?

Please save yourself the trouble and DON'T open up an account with HSBC.

I had a credit card with them for 5+ years - upon closure, they needed me to head into a physical branch and sign multiple documents and wait for their branch manager to approve the closure of MY credit card!! Like… the branch manager can reject my need/will to close a credit card??

Took me like close to 2 hours to wait around for them to do their administration. Very out-dated governance processes.

    • +2

Yep had the same issues with my transaction account with them. Hadn't used it for a while so it'd been suspended- no worries, 99% of other banks will reactivate it over the phone. Not HSBC, have to go into the physical branch and waited ages standing around as I signed docs and waited for other processes.

Not to mention numerous issues on their website/app and their onerous password/security code/yet another code process.

Hands down the most frustrating bank to deal with. At least I think they've given up on the physical security device thing in which you needed to hold this separate bloody code-generator with you just to do some transactions. Imagine being outside and not having your thingamabob on you- too bad, can't send money from your own damn account.

      • +1

oh f…I remember those. them RSA code generator. Had one for my CC too. So to log in you needed username, password and a code. Thank goodness for biometric sign in nowadays.

    • +2

I closed mine online, only hiccup was having to wait a day for pending transactions to finalize. Otherwise it was incredibly easy, much easier than expected (given the ordeal of opening the account)

      • Maybe they have improved the process and red tape.

  • New to this, wondering if you need to close the account of the balance being transferred?

    • +1

      No

  • What are these? It doesn't say.

    "purchase protection insurance"
    "guaranteed pricing scheme"

  • +1

Hmm, wonder if they'll pay 40k off my zero balance cards so I can have an interest free car loan.

    • What's the maximum credit limit?

  • +1

I've got this card. They might not do it anymore, but they use to get waive the annual fee if you accumulatively spent more than $6000 in the year.

    • I noticed this recently too. Used to be handy to use the lounge pass and get points for free. Guess I'll cancel it after my net trip.

  • anyone know of a promo code for Balance Transfers for existing card holders?

  • Just applied but it didn't ask for my other banks details for balance transfer… will they just ask for it upon approval??

    • It should have. You tick the balance transfer box and then it asks for institution, account/card number and balance.

      • I am sure you can do BT after card approval also.
