Wow, very cheap. Prob will still hold out when new chips come out value wise.

    • Lisa sue did say am4 is not over. Maybe one last batch of new am4 cpu next year.

  • just wow. That's a hell of a workhorse. Amazing price. How cheap can this get?

    • Cheapest US deal pricing has been USD $460-470 which is basically this AUD price. 3950X is going for $669 on Amazon so this is close to the floor

  • Damn. I would've got this at this price a month ago, but couldn't wait any longer and got a 5900X instead

  • +1

    Thanks OP! got one

  • Very nice price. I remember looking for this about 6 months ago and every eBay store jacked up the price every time a good eBay coupon was released.

  • There are a few other Harris deals to be had using the same coupon code!

  • +1

Is it worth upgrading from a 5900X?
Mainly using my PC for web browsing.

    • +1

      Yes.

      • +6

Guys he's trolling you need at least 24 cores and 128gigs of wam for chrome.

        • This one is only 16 cores? Deal breaker.

        • Last Christmas I gave you my heart, and very next day you gave it away.

This year I'll get 128 gigs instead.

    • +3

      Nah.

    • +2

For web browsing? Even a 5900x is overkill.

      • +1

I know right. I'll swap my 5600x for his 5900x!

    • +1

That’s like driving a Ferrari in a traffic jam… But I mean, go ahead if you have money to spare and want the flashiness of owning one of the fastest desktop CPUs around

    • Not for gaming.

  • This vs 5800X3D? Gaming primarily but also video/photo editing?

    • +2

Almost the same. Only see a difference if overclocking or if you want cores than the 5800X3D then the 5900X is better value.

But if you want the top CPU in Zen3 then the 5950X is it.

    • Absolutely, 100%, the 5800X3D. It's on par with the 5950X in some games, and blows it away in others. Unless you're doing massive number crunching or tons of VMs, the 5800X3D is way, way faster. 15% faster in some games.

      • +2

Not when your playing at 1440p or 4k.

    • +1

If gaming primarily, the 5800X3D is a no-brainer if you're looking this far up the stack.

For other tasks its basically on par or slightly slower than a regular 5800X, but in some games the difference is staggering. Depends a lot on what sort of games you play but I haven't regretted my upgrade from a 3900X to a 5800X3D one bit.

  • +2

Same deal gives AU $516.60 for the 5900x, which seems better value.

    • Link?

      • +2

        this one I think 5900x

    • +1

      well, $688/16=$43 per core.
      $516/12=$43 per core
So they are exactly the same value.

  • worth upgrading from ryzen 5 2600? 😂

  • OOS now.

    • +1

      EDIT don't worry.

  • Should I upgrade from a 3600 to this?

    • Depends on what you want it for. If it's for gaming then no, there's not much different between a 5600 and a 5950x in games, if you have a heavily threaded CPU workloads then yes.

  • Well, that didn't last long. Hopefully cheaper again next month. Seems to be a pattern forming.

    • +1

AMD is announcing the 7000 series and AM5 on the 29th of August (30th for us). If the 3950x is anything to go by, this is about as low as this CPU will get.

  • hmm thinking if I buy I can hold on and upgrade for 5 years or better wait for next gen? mainly casual gaming but I do have 1k tabs on chrome most times lol

  • much cores, such wow. 🙀

  • +1

Have a 3950. Worth upgrading to this or wait. Also will it just slot into the same.motherboard?
    Thanks

    • The upgrade would be very incremental and hard to notice outside of benchmarks, does not worth it IMHO. MB should be compatible but likely would require a bios upgrade using the current CPU.

      • Thanks mate.
The 3950 is doing well, but at these prices we do t think straight lol.

        • It may be 10-20% faster, depending on the task. If you are waiting for hours for rendering for example, it may be worth upgrading, otherwise, such difference is harder to notice in everyday tasks.

  • +2

Bought this last month, but needed it for work. Such a great chip, for number crunching it's absolutely insane. About $70 more as well.

Can't wait for the next gen for AVX512 (I do a lot of data work where the CPU makes a massive difference).

    • In your case may be worth considering threadrippers, if the budget allows.

  • Can anyone recommend a good motherboard to pair with this that will maximize performance without breaking the bank? Don't care that much about it being loaded with features like Wifi etc, going to be using it for spatial analysis. Thanks!! First time commenter be gentle :)

    • Any X570 board in the $300 range would be fine or $200-$250 second hand

  • Looking at this as an upgrade from a 3700x, is that a good idea? I mainly play games, do virtual machines and heavy multitasking.

    • I’m rocking a 3700x too. If you do a lot of rendering then I would say yes. If general tasks like web and the odd multi thread application then no wait for AM5 Gen2

OOS at 6:33PM AEST, HT were OOS earlier today and restocked so recheck the listing later tonight if you are still deciding and HT decide to restock

18x 5950X's sold in 8 hours, not bad at all
