Same price at MyDeal and COTD.

    • Can you please share other sites link?

  • how is the battery life though?

      • Products with batteries will exceed 80% capacity relative to new.

Guess you can test it and return if it's not - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12550001/redir

I've owned one when new and I got 8-10 hrs on battery. Nalar pointed out the used battery description, but this being a dell, the battery is easy to replace and cheap at ~$70. There is also a 4-cell battery upgrade if this has the cheaper 3-cell

Has anyone seen something at a similar price point with a 15.6” display?

  • Is thus touch screen?

      No.

when I say Dell used to make good laptops, this is the model that comes to mind first and most.
used to see it on the desks of various managers and executives when it was in service.

7490 is a legend, if you don't mind a design language that is showing its age. Great keyboards, solid build, light and pleasure to use

to those worried about the battery life on RFB units, I can find you a part number (I used to be Dell reseller), you can source the battery yourself, and replace in 5 minutes.

    P.S. 60Wh standard issue battery SKU: F3YGT

I don't need one but I want to buy one after reading your comment

haha my sales skills are still sharp then!

    • I have always used Dell, time for me to buy a new one for everyday use. Screen resolution, performance, battery life are important for me. Main use will be surfing, streaming and day to day office works and budget is not an issue. What do you recommend?

sadly I stopped selling Dell as quality just isn't there any more, not like these models you see in this post. Latitudes 3490, 5490, 5590, 7490 those were their best machines.

right now Lenovo ThinkPad is the safest bet to recommend. reliable, well-built, thought out, good keyboards etc.

E14 gen 4 if you are on a budget, I scored one for backup machine for $850 from Lenovo direct. they are superb if you don't mind average color space coverage (great for word processing and getting things done, great battery life too, alloy body etc).

believe it or not, E14 gen 4 has 2nd NVMe slot under the hood, easy to expand storage if need be. bloody hard to open the case, but with a YouTube guide you'll be good.

if you have a bit more to spend, grab X1 Carbon or T14 or X13 and you're covered.

        • Very informative, much appreciated.

@harrysab: P14s if need a bit of creative processing, L14/L15 if you need more ports and don't mind larger size and weight

One of the biggest factors is the keyboard for me, and that's the reason why I prefer E14 over the new Dell laptops. Latitude 7490 is definitely one of the best I've used. Tad bit chunkier in size than other 74xx but excellent performance.

          • @DONMAI: yes E14 gen4 has a great keyboard, with backlight too. can type War and Peace on it, and some more

    • Great insight. What's your opinion on the smaller machines; 7390 or the 7390 2 in 1? My wife was after something relatively inexpensive for uni with touchscreen and pen support for note-taking. These 14" models are probably a bit hefty for her.

      • 7490 is smaller than it appears, actually.

personally, I found 1080p screen on 7390 a bit too cramped, also I remember there were issues with 7390 thunderbolt port charging.

all in all 7390 wasn't all that popular, I haven't seen many of those in the wild

and on a side note I don't have any model I can recommend for note taking on the screen. Lenovo had Miix, Microsoft has Surface, all of them had great experience writing on screen, but Miix had firmware issues that never got fixed, and don't get me started on Surface

    • Hi just messaged you

  • Can it be powered via USB-C?

    • Seems like a yes, thunderbolt port

    • yes, it can be charged via USB-C (Thunderbolt) indeed.

Apology to all OzBs, after further checking, I found bufferstock has a listing on eBay $418.94 after stacking BAJULY10 and PLUSAUG1 coupons, 4 units available.

    • I got one of these earlier this month - absolutely smicko condition.

    • Already gone :(

      • Keep polling, bufferstock has added 2 addition units after OOS.

This is my work machine in i7 16gb LTE spec. Solid machine, light, runs all the crap a large organisation runs. Solid choice for portability.
Personally prefer XPS for personal use at a different price point though.

  • Seems a bit expensive for a 2nd hand computer?

    • What brand new laptop at this price point can you recommend?

        • +2

That would have been. Pity people are getting cancellation emails as it was a price error.

          • -3

@PVA: Doesn't seem fair that only some people get it. I hope amazon are going to offer a monetary apology, like Lenovo did.

            • @shoppe: Got a $10 credit in the end.

              Disappointed, but not unexpected tbh.

Glad the OP of that deal got theirs at least.

  • So tempting. Though I don't need it lol.

  • Welp looks like these are out of stock

Still available on Mydeal and Catch. See one of the comments above.

  • worth getting for 499?

  • Thats the normal price ebay had and with bufferstock default 20% discount on ebay and ebay discount time to time, you could get them around 395 range. Battery life is amazing on these used ones. You can get 480S though at that price and spec.

    Bought 10 x 7490 i7s at auction 300 each added 16gb n 1tb ssd sold em for 700 each

  • Similar specs, smaller screen size at 12.5” HD though

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Latitude-Intel-8350u-1-70Ghz-Renew…

    • Not 1080p tho

    • 1366x768…. My eyes bleed

  • The last of the Nokia's of the laptop world. I owned one new and I do still think about it sometimes (mainly when new laptop is sh*tting itself). Non-soldered ram, upgradable hard drive, replaceable / upgradable battery, replaceable keyboard, upgradable WIFI/BT and really lightweight. It's weird to think how crappy tech companies are becoming with this small (nowadays) luxuries.

  • How would this be for mid level gaming?

    • I was surprised, but the built in graphics are capable of running things like Portal and Half Life 2, native resolution, comfortably

so that's an outright win. and you should have no problem running indie titles either

just don't expect it to run every game out there, and you'll be fine

  • There are some Latitude 7490 with i5-8250u 16GB/256GB on eBay, $417.12 (PAUGSEP12) / $426.60 (PAUGSEP10).
