hey, thanks! will replace my really old broken dremel.

Reviews on bunnings website are quite bad

    • +1

they seem to be complaining about the cheese metal quality of the "109 accessories"… which you expect to be friggin' rubbish

it does take real dremel discs right?

      • it looks to me like they would fit

      • Should do, I have a generic tool that looks like this one from mitre 10 and the official Dremel disc + the stem thing that comes with it works very well

      • I have one and yes dremelndiscs fit.

What you get in the kit isn't great but at $20 its worth it.

      • +1

They take Dremel accessories and are just as good as the base Dremel units. Mine did die after 2 years but I really worked it and Bunnings refunded very easily. I’ll be going to get another one at this price.

The cutting wheels that come with it do suck a lot though, just bin them. Some of the other accessories are decent.

      • +1

Yep. I have had one of these for years (although I don't use it much). It actually has a couple of different screw down heads to take different shaft size tools.

      • +3

Yes, the "accessories" that come with it are total schizen, but can confirm it takes Dremel gear so no worries there.

That said, the tool itself is great value at this price. For $20, this fits the adage of buy the cheap tool and if you wear it out, buy the expensive one next time.

      • +1

I have an older version of the Ozito. For the price it's great…but the accessories are made from soft cheese. The Dremel accessories fit. I use the Dremel reinforced cutting discs and they go through Stainless Steel bolts very easily.

    • +2

Maybe I was unlucky to have purchased a faulty one but mine did not perform well and while using at low speed, the speed could randomly jump very high, causing damage to my dremel bits (yes, the genuine dremel bits) and artwork, and potentially my eyes, etc. I had a hard time returning it to Bunnings Villawood as I could not reproduce the issue there. Initially, they wanted me to take it back home to produce a video clip of the fault and I was happy to do so; then one Bunnings guy agreed to swap it with a real Dremel rotary tool (a lot more expensive) only, and I paid the price difference. It took 40 minutes and I felt really frustrated. Frankly, I would not take this particular Ozito tool even if it were given to me free of charge.

      • +1

That's odd, Bunnings are normally ridiculously generous with their returns policy. You may well have had more luck just saying you didn't like it

    New manicure set!
    Thanks OP

      Shrek, is that you?

      • +9

It's HairyChickens and you're chickendinner123. What on earth is going on?

        • +6

          cluck

        • +1

Look who’s asking … what a thread this is 🙊

    • +12

And dentistry is so expensive, how hard can it be?

      • +4

Easy as. Permanent tooth filling kit from eBay, this, and a YouTube tutorial.

  • +3

I owned this. The variable speed dial broke after very little use, but sadly after the warranty ended.

For $20 it's a worthy deal though. The accessories alone would cost that much

    • wouldnt you just buy another a new one and refund the faulty one?

      • Nah this was years ago. I gave the old one away and got a cordless one instead

      • +2

As is the Oz Bargainers way.

  • Damn. Just spent 60 for a Rockwell branded rotary tool from Supercheap.

    • That goes on special every 2nd month at SCA for around $39. Get this one for cheap backup accessories to ease the pain.

    • +1

Was just about to make that same mistake and then luckily my cheapskate senses kicked in first. Ozbargain living up to its name as always!

  • +2

Matching ALDI's upcoming Ferrex 7W Rotary Tool

    • +2

The ozito one looks much better value with the flexi shaft and more accessories.

7W will be near useless as well.

      • Might as well give it to a 5yr old as a starter kit.

    • I got a rotary tool from Aldi last year and it’s absolute piece of s**t. Haven’t used other rotary tools but I they have to be better than this. Maybe this one is improved?

  • I have one. As others have noted, the quality is not amazing.

But for $20 it is a good deal and handy for occasional use.

Get an actual Dremel if you expect to use it a lot. And better quality accessories. Or just loads of cheap ones that won't last long!

  • Thanks Op got one

  • +3

I have a Dremel but hardly ever use it since buying this from SCA:-

    https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-rotary-t…

I paid $59 when it was on special and it does pretty much all I need of a "Dremel". Their 12V tool range is actually pretty good and I say that with the reality that most of my goto gear is DeWalt 18V XR etc. That said, the tools and flexible shaft would certainly have their uses.

  • Paige No!

  • +1

How is this compared to a battery version?

  • What's this?

    • a pet nail cutting tool

      • Elephants?

    • Nose trimmer

      • +1

        Whose?

  • I have this and found its pretty decent, the included pieces are certainly pretty crappy. Ive had mine for about 2 years and probably used for around 15\20 hrs without issue. Unsure if Dremel or other branded pieces will suit. imo definitely worth the 20 for the tool alone

  • +1

I have one and I actually really like it. For light hobby work it more than does the job. Have also used it in a pinch for some Reno related bits.
I haven't had a single issue with it as of yet andI've had mine for a year or so now. Easily worth the $20 asking price.

    • Also I've used a couple of Dremel bits with it no problem.

  • Prefer battery operated versions of these but it's a good price!

  • I have this one and it is very good. I initially bought the 12V home rotary tool and it was way too underpowered to do anything useful.

  • Is this powerful enough to remove the grout in between kitchen tiles? Thanks

    • +1

I have the same question. My tiled in drain wastes are rusting

      • +2

just get a bare hacksaw blade buy a good one ie Sandvik. Wrap half a 10cm snapped off section with a few duck tape whipping (yes duck- it's cotton 'duck', a durable weave like Kernsey, but we've all forgotten what that is). Scratch out grout, using downward strokes to cut out grout. Use flat head screw driver to prize out the rest (assuming tiles are grouted, not cemented into position (footpath grey around tiles).

    • +4

Yes but the Dremel grout removal attachment doesn't fit on this.

I would recommend using an oscillating multi tool with grout removal blade instead. It's far easier.

      • And less chance fing up the tiles in the process .

    • Yeah it should do that no problems with the little round carving bits.

  • for $20 cant go wrong. ive been meaning to get a dremel for ages but this will do for my hobby use

  • Looks like it’s almost sold out across Brisbane :(

  • If you need it to cut and grind, it's probably fine.
I had an Ozito similar to this, it will not drill straight and broke fine drill bits while the Dremel did it perfectly.

  • Has anyone used this for engraving purposes ? Specifically on plastic surfaces? Was it any good?

    • +1

Depends how big your engraving is.
      I wouldn't recommend this

An engraver is easier to use. This is too powerful for fine engraving

      • It would mostly be small letters on plastic surface. Basically for a personalized gift. Guess I would have to get a specialized engraver then? Sorry a total noob here when it comes to engraving.

  • -1

Are these compatible with Dremels? At that price probably worth it just for the attachments.

    • You should get burrs etc from banggood- have a machinist turn down the shank. The Chinese cobalt bits are reasonably good.

  • Damn, I love a long flexible shaft

    • +1

until it breaks in light use

  • +1

Bought one a few years ago - has worked really well for the light/hobby tasks I throw at it. The sanding drums and cutting wheels are pretty average quality (try the dremel reinforced ones instead) but the accessories, especially the flex arm attachment, work well. I got it on sale for $20 six years ago and it's still going strong.

  • Store Hastings 3915
Out of stock at this store

  • Is this cabled or battery?
    Cheers

    • cable

    • +1

Cables, for future ref it will generally refer to wattage if corded, or voltage if battery

      • Which is a little odd, they should refer to both in both cases. As in, 230v 200w vs 18v 100w for instance.

  • "flexible shaft" hahaaha thats what HE said

  • -1

Out of stock everywhere about 5 minutes before it was posted

    • Ordered one for Click & Collect at Balgowlah store 9:30pm last night, had pickup confirmation at 8:00am this morning and picked it up at 9:00am, so perhaps just unlucky there was no stock in your local stores.

  • Any way to use a bunnings gift voucher online?

    • Called store and putting one of the last two (leopold, vic) aside for me. And will use card in store.

  • Got one. Thanks. Tried sanding and grinding, works well. Happy with the purchase.

  • There are 4 or 5 at Port Melbourne. Guy just got them down off the top shelf for me - not sure where he's put them but as of now there's a few left.

  • +1
    • +1

It's not accurate for Port Melbourne (see above). Unless they all went in the last 20 minutes.

Powerpass app still says "low stock" which I think is accurate.

  • Glad I bought a Dremel 30 years ago before this sort of tool became a throwaway item.

    • +1

Why is it a throwaway item? Its got replaceable brushes ports just like the Dremel. The bearings are also standard sizes. It's user serviceable. It's gotten affordable doesn't mean it is a throwaway item. The Dremel is overpriced to begin with, competition drives prices down.

      • Simply not worth repairing if they can be bought new for this price. I've repaired my treadmill and air conditioner in the last week but that was saving about $500/$1000 respectively.

        • Perhaps what you said is right but for other countries where wages is low then it makes sense. However keeping one unit going means one less unit being produced. Repairing isnt always about the money but also avoiding the landfill and environmental. These tools don't get outdated like the latest iPhone so they can go for ages.

  • OOS wont even show up on bunnings website

  • Had successfully ordered last night at West Footscray but got an email today that it was out of stock, they have processed Return now 😔

    • Try calling PM and ask them to put one aside for you?

  • Thanks OP. Got one today

  • +2

Not worth the $20. Worst rotary tool I ever had the displeasure of using.

Didn't even last three uses. Very light uses.

  • thank god all you mufuccers cleaned out their stock so i dont need to get one

  • +1

    Thanks OP

Grabbed one at Ballarat just now - was several still there still displayed at $39.98 - have a Dremel 4300 but for $20 thought it was worth it just for the flexi shaft tested fits straight on and works fine. Got plenty of both original Dremel and Aliexpress accessories already and the bonus tool can be used for occasional light jobs - find the genuine Dremel accessories are significantly cheaper via Amazon US with Prime free delivery.

  • Thanks, picked up one for my scale modelling

  • I've ordered online and got a message, it is out of stock so they would give me another one, https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-170w-rotary-tool-kit_p6290… without extra cost.
    Is it better?

    • Lucky! I didn't get any other offer but simple notification of not available and full refund to my order. If you're not keen on taking the offer than I would be more than happy to take it off your hands :)

  • For anyone in SA: Edwardstown found their stock that's been MIA - was 6 or 7 units left after I took mine around an hour ago. Aisle 15 in the toolshop, near the air compressors. If anyone's still looking…

Also, try your luck at Windsor Gardens. They don't have this model anymore, but they have been offering the 42pc model (with the desk clamp/hanger thing, https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-42-piece-170w-rotary-tool-…) for $30 instead of $55 or so. This was as a goodwill gesture since they were showing stock of the posted unit online. Fewer bits, but still included the flexible attachment and the bench clamp/hanger, which looked to be more useful anyway.

  • I got one for myself and one for my dad for fathers day.
Thanks for the heads up on this.

  • I bought it and fired it up. Not bad.

Had a burnt smell when the motor first turned on. Not sure if it's just a new motor turning on for the first time. Let's see how it goes.

    • Pretty normal for brushed motors, should be fine.
