Because many people still haven't been able to get it at any price.

      • +8

There have been literally pallet loads of them available at Costco for months now. These are no longer hard to get.

        • +7

Don't know why you're being downvoted. I was a Costco a few weeks ago and there was indeed a pallet full of them.

          • +10

@lunchbox99: That would make the cost $810 for non-members.
Plus there's currently a 10% JB HIfi gift card deal on too - 675 vs 810 is a difference.

            • +1

              @snoopydoop:

That would make the cost $810 for non-members.

So when there’s an Amazon Prime or EBay Plus deal I should post the exact same product at full price for people who don’t have those memberships?

10% JB HIfi gift card deal on too

That was not a part of the original deal posted.

              • @PainToad: There's a difference between those services in which you can actually purchase those items if you don't have prime or plus, just paying shipping usually.

Unless I have a costco membership fee I don't have access to purchase at all, and there has definitely still been stock issues outside of Costco.

                • +1

                  @snoopydoop:

if you don't have prime or plus

There are Prime and Plus exclusive deals.

                  • +1

                    @PainToad: Sure.

Anyway I'm not sure your point, you're saying there's stock at Costco which is above RRP cost for non-members. I don't shop at costco so I don't know if there's a way to get free membership and 10%+ off through giftcards to be competitive.

But it's pretty common knowledge you can get discounted JB giftcards, and don't need a membership to enter the store. Your suggested method of purchasing would cost me $810, and this would cost $675.

If you have a more cost effective way of purchasing than this post, then you probably should post as a deal, as stock is still very low, and lots of people are looking to purchase.

                    • @snoopydoop: When this deal was posted, there was no mention of any discount. Just another OzInStock post from someone wanting to get their post count up.

If the 10% off had been included in the deal originally, I would not have complained. In face, I would have +1 it.

                      • +2

@PainToad: Any time it's in stock at a store which has offered discounted gift cards in the past, there's a deal to be had here, even at RRP, because of how difficult it is to get at these stores.

I think that the discounted gift cards should be added to this deal, but you're living under a rock if you're on this website and you didn't know that discounted JB giftcards exist. This product is rarely in stock at JB, therefore it's a deal. I wouldn't say the same of posting any easy to get product that's currently full price at JB - even though it's technically the same discount.

I understand if this started happening with maggi instant noodles at RRP there'd be a problem, but this is a highly in demand product which is rarely in stock still, two years on. It's an item which is rarely in stock, you've cited one store that apparently has stock but it requires you spend $60 just to walk in the store.

This is currently the lowest priced, more widely accessible, and best place to buy this product, to my knowledge. It's not a product you can just walk into any store and walk out with immediately at this price. And every time one of these is posted, I'm sure it's helping many people out. It's probably a more useful deal than a vast majority posted on any given day, even if it is "RRP".

            • @snoopydoop: Any idea where I can find these discounted JB cards? I want to buy some.

Don't know why you're being downvoted.

I'm guessing kiddies who didn't grow up using forums and can't grasp the concept of what belongs as a post and what belongs in a forum post.

            • @PainToad: lol. you guys just offended the xbox fanboys.. lol.. now i will be/am going to be downvoted..

              • @ruztynail: I am an Xbox fan. I'm also a fan of not paying full price.

          • @lunchbox99: We'll see how long that lasts now that ps5 getting price jack

    • +7

I suspect the dozens of previous $749 Xbox listings that sold out might be a clue?

      • -5

Times have changed. They are much easier to get now.

    • -7

Getting voted down on a bargain site for pointing out where you can get a product cheaper…

Back in my day that was the entire point of this site.

    • +6

Some people don't wish to sign up to costco in order to buy one product, this is still a valid post.

    • +20

Sorry, but your way of thinking is flawed. You may have a point on the MS store (though they regularly sell out within a couple of days as well), but the Costco argument is just silly. For one, there are very few Costco's around for people to get to. Secondly, there is a $60 membership fee for Costco, so the console actually works out more expensive to buy from here for the majority of people.
The fact is, they're still not "easy" to get for most people, whether you think so or not.

      • though they regularly sell out within a couple of days as well

So for every deal that gets posted on here and sells out, I should then repost the product from another seller at full price?

It comes into stock at MS at least monthly and stays in stock for days. Seems pretty easy to me.

  • +1

Getit' before they fleece you for 'nother fiddy!

    • +18

MS have already said they won’t be increasing the price.

    • +1

      Nope, it's just Sony

  • +7

XBOX is in stock for a while PS5 has increased the price with very limited stock almost 2 years after release. What are you doing Sony?

    • Theyre moving to 6nm and reducing weight and increasing price by $50.

      • +12

They are making it cheaper and increasing the price.
Less powerful system ps5 cost more then the more powerful series x.

        • +13

Let's not forget they are only increasing the price outside of the US.
          Seems reasonable. /s

          • -7

@Nitr0: One day I'll learn about exchange rates, I'm sure of it

            • @DiscountForThee: I sure hope so. Plenty of places to learn about it.

              • -4

@Nitr0: I wonder if exchange rates have anything to do with the price increase :o

                • @DiscountForThee: I know what you were saying originally hence the equally sarcastic reply since it has nothing to do with fx rates. People say inflation to which is a brilliant excuse for any company to make record breaking profits. If it was inflation why would you exclude your biggest market from the increase?

        • Inflation apparently. Sad though, back in the old days when they refine production such as what they're doing atm, it would lead to lower costs to consumers. These days it means the cost will go up.

    • +2

PS5 more in demand I thought, given XBOX shares more with PC.

    • -1

      Does it really matter..

The past 2 years has not really had many decent games released for these platforms..

TBH new good games have really dried up.. Are we going to see a new GTA for this generation ?

      • +1

God of War Ragnarök shall be one of the most popular one and I expect it to be available on PC platform after 2-3 years.

      • Ah comon' man! That energy has such yelling-at-clouds, back-in-my-day vibes. Just think, some of the experiences that your younger counterpart is going be riding rose-coloured nostalgic mems in 10, 15 years are being released today and yesterday.

Have a look around bruh, find what's your jam, there's fun for days out there.

      • +2

Whether it matters or not is up to the individual. I know games play much better on my XSX than my X1X.

    • +1

      More demand

EB has had the Series X for pre-order for the last 5-6 days.

And yes, even if the ps5 remains most of the time out of stock, is still selling more than the Series X/S.

    • +1

Sony's reaping the rewards of their superior strategy from the last console generation, same as always. XBox SeX has been generally more available ever since release - by which I mean that product drops usually last hours rather than seconds. Supply and demand, baby.

As for whether they still have the superior offering, that's a lot more up in the air between Game Pass being the best deal for anything ever if Amazon Prime didn't exist and Sony raising the price on the PS5 (which is more of a psychological differentiation than anything, but still).

    • Its economic 101 really. PS5 has way more demand than Xbox Series X globally. The PS5 sell twice as much as the Series X and they have limited stock. I'm sure MS would do the same if the situation is reverse, they are public companies who sole purpose is to maximise profits for their shareholders.

  • +5

Maybe worth mentioning this deal in OP?

      • +12

I don't think I've seen someone so salty on OzBargain in a long time…

    • +1

      Thanks, I'll add that.

    • Actually, I had to edit that out, because they are physical cards, sold at Target, which probably can't be used online to click and collect.

      • +1

Yes, you can. Did it a few times already (with either TCN digital or physical cards). Just need to swap it to JB cards first (on TCN website), to be able to use it on JB website. Similarly Coles also have similar deal on TCN card (getting points though, but maybe works better for some):
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/721466

        • Good to know. Thanks.

  • The good thing is that its click and collect only so it cuts out alot of the people that want it delievered.

  • +3

Eb still has the bonus trade in offer if anyone's interested in that route.

Microsoft still out of stock for pre-order for last 3 weeks but its around $663 after cashback and 10% gift cards when it does come back.

JB never really went out of stock, maybe for a day or 2 in the last month. Stores will get stock periodically added.

  • hi is $674 the cheapest price for it?

    • you will be lucky to get one for that price. don't think just get.

    • People with Amex cards have been able to pick one up for $650 from MS.

      • I wonder if it's worth to get an AMEX just for this and cancel it later?

        • Probably not as theres no guarantee the promotion would be repeated.

        • The promotion was targeted too, not every Amex holder got it

  • Can anyone confirm if they were successful in using 10% off TCN cards online at JB Hifi?

    • Yes, I've used various TCN cards both online & in-store without issue. You just have to swap it to JB cards first if online (where in-store you can just swap the card). There's no limit, but quite painful to swap & enter $50 each for big purchase.

      • +1

but quite painful to swap & enter $50 each for big purchase

And the receipt is as long as the Great Wall of China.

My local JB had 5 Series X consoles available. I bought one for myself. Often it will have a sign to ask the staff. Don't assume they have no stock unless they outright say so.

  • The boy (14 yr old) is looking for a Xbox series S, cheapest I can see is $479 on Amazon with free delivery, any better deals than this?

    • +1

The best I can think of is to price match with JB hi Fi and use the 10-15% off gift card to pay

    • +1

chip in the difference and get him an X if you are in a position to do so. Unless he plans on only playing game pass games or free top play for the rest of this generation you will end up ahead in the long run through discounted physical games and bargain bin deals, series S will have to pay full RRP for most games for the whole generation having no disc drive.

    Interesting sales numbers (if true).

    • Switch dominates.
    • PS5's lead over Series X/S isn't as wide as the previous console generation, but they are still leading worldwide.

Microsoft's purchase of so many game companies might narrow the gap even further in time. We'll see.

  • +1

The nerd arguments are strong in this thread.

  • It’s good to see it’s still not sold out 🫡. After that when stores have over supply we can look for proper deals

  • +2

This is the best console on the market right now. More Powerful and Better than the PS5.

Gamepass is the best deal in Entertainment right now. Can’t go wrong with an XBOX and Gamepass.

Once the Activision deal goes thru. You won’t have to ever have to buy COD or FIFA again!

PS5 forces the user to buy their games for $125AUD per game. Whilst all XBOX Games are free with Gamepass?

I don’t know why it XBOX isn’t selling like bonkers in Aus? I guess people just stick with what they know and don’t know any better for themselves.

I’ve gone XBOX and never looked back. Great if your a PC Gamer too!

    • Your are thinking logical. Most people don't buy a console this way.

Most people this days are too lazy to think for themselves and will buy what the internet and most people tell them to buy and at the moment that's the PS5.

Popularity will always sell a product more than any competitor, even if it's competition is arguably a better product

      • Most people this days are too lazy to think for themselves and will buy what the internet and most people tell them to buy and at the moment that's the PS5.

Most multiplatform games have been performing better on the PS5 thus far, as outlined by Digital Foundry and others (despite the Xbox Series X appearing better on paper). The PS5 also could be considered to have better controllers, and less need to be online, perhaps.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4extes1Ah0g

Microsoft has the superior console hardware design, IMO. Better for heat dissipation and far mnore modular. Microsoft has superior backward compatibility. Etc.

Both are neck-and-neck in terms of global sales, with the PS5 currently in the lead by a bit. Long story short: they are both trading blows. Which one is better is down to the individual choice and how much weight they place on particular things. Things are far more competitive now between Microsoft and Sony than they have ever been.

        • Most multiplatform games have been performing better on the PS5 thus far, as outlined by Digital Foundry and others

          Absolute nonsense.

As of July, Digital Foundry has actually found "Xbox Series X has come out on top eight times, with two comparisons favouring PS5, and five coming out pretty even across both platforms."

          https://www.purexbox.com/news/2022/07/digital-foundry-host-s…

            @PainToad: https://www.psu.com/news/guide-every-ps5-game-that-outperfor…

The last comparison I looked at favoured the PS5 nearly always. Looks like Microsoft are doing some work to improve things. I can't confirm nor deny the info on this website. I don't own either of them. I can't see John's comments on twitter since twitter wants me to sign in. I will have to hit eurogamer soon.

    • A reason could be that people get used to their PSN accounts with all the digital copies and friend connections, especially for multiplayer games. Not an easy thing to change to another platform and re-establish them.

      • In reverse, this is what kept me with MS in the dark days of early Xbox One.

        • Same here! LOL. XB1 was the dark days. I had so many xbla games. But there all gone now. Never buy digital!

          • @SiCKUNiT: Why are they gone? You should be able to download everything you own even after being delisted.

    • I'm a trophywhore.
10 years ago in my early 20s, it was all about Xbox 360 and getting that gamerscore up.
I then fully switched to PSN in 2015 and just started hunting for platinums.
I also play a lot of obscure console games, majority of them not on Xbox.

I do actually agree with most of your comment though. Which is why I bought my nephew an XSX instead.
