6th gen Intel released late 2015… wonder how much life left in a 6-7 years old used laptop….

    • +15

Besides the battery what else wears out? Most components have 10+ years more with lighter use. And Moore's law is pretty much dead, old stuff is fine for general use, and that is all non-gaming laptops can do. Even if you only get a few years out of it, that is probably better value than spending $2000 on new and ditching in a few years anyways. And peace of mind if you lose, damage it etc. If you just need to do some productivity stuff on the side it is a pretty good deal.

Certainly more life left in this than a terrible brand new laptop that’s under $500-600

    • I guess it depends on the model. my 6820hk still runs everything really well.

      • +1

        That is a 4C8T 45W part. This is a 2C4T 15W part.

      • I had a MacBook Air that lasted 11 years and did not miss a beat, the only reason i replaced its was due to the latest MacBook Pro being so cheap on a deal

    • i god decent pc, but always nice to have a laptop lying around for things like setup routers………….

    • Im using an approaching 10 year dell with i7 3rd gen, runs well.

    • B grade btw

I'm sure the SSD won't be mounted between two pieces of foam.

        • -4

          Modern problems require modern solutions

        • Also yes one technicians had the bright spark idea of doing that. The issue was resolved and a refund given. Again we do apologise for your experience and have taken back your feedback with the team! Hopefully your next purchase will be amazing!

@FuseTechAu: we did a dodgy and got caught, sorry not sorry

            • -7

@xoape: Well yes but actually no

          • -1

@FuseTechAu: Next purchase with you? ha! Not going to happen.

        • Oh dear. What?

          • +3

@flashi007: I bought one of FuseTech's "refurbished" PCs. Took ages to ship and when I opened it up the SSD was wedged between two pieces of foam. The whole CPU was covered in a piece of styrofoam - great for passive cooling. @xoape summed it up nicely

        • +1

I was actually keen on that because it includes a 4G modem. Great option for a backup device for remote onsite access… except for this:
"NOTE Grade B Condition… SCREEN STAINS; LOW BATTERY CAPACITY (2 Batteries in this model, one might not be working);"

          • @thedriver: Don't forget the bruised screen

          • +2

@thedriver: I had one of those t470s, I would say overall condition is much better than the description, like grade A, battery is about 47%. I am writing this on the t470s. Hope this help you.

    Any t480/t480s/t490s on the horizon?

  • @FuseTechAu How many ram slots in the T470?

    • +1

has two, so it'll be a single 8GB stick

  • Do you have any 15-16" laptops with a numberpad?

  • +1

    These are good machines.

    • Could you elaborate please?

      • Excellent build quality - hinges, external chassis, keyboard, removable battery. This would have been over $2k when new

  • rock solide with mine, doing school stuff, pretty much the limit of it, but it is doing it !

  • +5

I think people need to check comments on previous laptop deal by Fusetech, there's multiple people who received dead batteries and it seem some people still haven't got a response/resolution.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/722380

    • Yeah so some of those batteries for that model will sometimes drop to zero (even through battery capacity shows its above 80%). But we are sorting it out with customers!

    • Then Similar to B grade ?

      • Ah no the majority where fine, it's the odd ones that we've seen happen is all

        • Wouldn't dodgy battery be picked up when your refurbish and test them?

Or is the refurb part just a wipe of the HDD and a wipe of a cloth?

          • @Nalar: Not always, it'll run fine for 10-30 minutes, then may start dropping rapidly. The sheer number of laptops we sent out means there's always going to be some issue that slips by. nonetheless, we can simply swap those out!

  • These are solid laptops. The main thing is the batteries which a lot of models around this time (Latitude 7480 had terrible batteries) were quite bad for. These were probably about $1800 new with a corporate discount.

Just keep in mind these won't run Windows 11 in a supported way, so after October 2025 your options are Linux or run Windows 10 unsupported. If you're just using web based apps then linux could be your friend.

  • Hi fuse, can you charge this with usb c?

    • Should work, probably needs 20V profile.

  • no deal, these are dual cores

  • +1

Prefer to get T480 onwards for more future proof

  • Does it have 4G LTE?

  • Got any touchscreen ones coming up?

  • I bought one of these, picked it up from the store it was well packed. I didn't take it out of the box, as I trusted the shop. Got it home, powered it on for a second everything seemed fine. I have now taken it away with me in the country to use for a couple of months (the intended purpose), once I went on Google with a majority white screen, I could see at least 4 pressure marks, not small ones either, and ones which would stick out during proper testing. I'm now too far away from the store to return it, and I don't have time to post it and be without a laptop. Not great. If you buy from them make sure you test it thoroughly before leaving the store.

    • Hi,

Wait so the screen is damaged? that would have defs come up in testing. Email through some photos and ill see what I can do

      • I'm not sure how to send photos through here, is there an email address I can use? Thanks

        • How did you go with your issue?

          • +2

@Bretttick: All good they reached out and I returned the laptop, have been refunded. They were very apologetic and professional.

            • +1

@addison666: No worries. Waiting for next fusetech deal on refurb t470/480. They seem to have the most upvotes but when I seen your comment my confidence was little shaky. Seems they resolved the issue without too much hassle so will give them a go next round on refurbs. Hopefully they get some stock soon
