      • +1

The black one is discounted as well, and that appears to be available from Amazon directly.

    • Spoke to amazon cs on saturday they wouldnt budge.

    • +1

People should try pricematch at at Big w or JB

  • +3

Anyone have any experience using this on a PC? compared to an old xbox360 controller.

    • +1

I use it to play Spiderman on PC (wired - as haptic feedback only works using wired).

      • +1

If you use steam or epic platform, setup ps controller and leave the steam launcher at background. Then, you will be able to use your ps5 Wireless Controller as normal.

        • +2

Adaptive triggers and haptic feedback only work wired right now. Sony plans to bring this to work over Bluetooth in future.

    • +3

If you are just using it for PC I would recommend getting a new Xbox controller instead. Xbox controllers are universally supported.

Steam does some magic to make this controller work on all (or atleast most) games, when you enable the PlayStation controller support option. If you play games on other platforms there is no guarantee it will work and I have had issues in the past.

      • +7

Be aware though that Microsoft have updated their Xbox Accessories app recently. If you want to update the firmware, or setup custom profiles, you're now forced to either:

        • Login to both a Microsoft account & Xbox profile, or
        • Plug the controller into a friend's Xbox console

Might not be a problem if you're already using Gamepass, but if you're like me and only use Steam, then it's a dick move on Microsoft's part IMO.

    • +3

works well when i play emulated games, but you need to install a software called DS4 Windows, youtube has instructions.

I haven't played any steam games yet sorry, so cant comment on that front

    • works fine, but in my experience i've often use wired mode with PS4 and PS5 controllers with the PC. I've used the PS5 (bluetooth mode) with iphones/ipads for some game as well.

    • +3

Yes, it's very good. Spend a fiver and buy: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1812620/DSX/

      • +7

Or save the $5 and go open-source.

        • +1

DS4Windows is unfortunately nowhere near as good for DualSense functionality. It's worth it.

          • +1

            @Hybroid: Really? I can't say I've had any issues. What's missing exactly?

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Adaptive triggers and (audio) haptics support.

              • @Hybroid: Yeah, that's fair then. $5 is a good deal if you want those extra features. I've personally never noticed though haha.

      • Does this work for games not launched via Steam?

        • Whether you're using Steam or a different platform, you will be able to use DSX with all Games!

          Yes.

    • I tried a little bit and found it more janky than I would have liked. Steam seems to handle it but things like the actual button prompts in games (at least the games I tried) are still xbox buttons (i.e. "press B to crouch"). The most annoying thing here is that X on an xbox controller isn't the same button as X on a ps controller :S

[edit] Actually another thing was that if I launched the game with my mouse, or from desktop, then it seemed to not register the controller. I had to go into big picture mode and launch the game with the controller to have the controller be recognised in game.

Outside of steam you need to use software to interface with windows, which to me just seemed more complicated than I could be bothered with. I'd go with an xbox controller unless you strongly prefer the PS stick positions.

    • I honestly recommend the current xbox controller + the official wireless dongle as the most hassle free way to get a low latency controller that always works on PC.

Everything else always has weird caveats.

      • I just wish that wireless dongle was in stock somewhere for RRP. It hasn't been availble for months and months now.

Some people will say "just use bluetooth", but that's not always reliable, a prime example of which would be the original/non-remastered Life is Strange game. For some reason that game will not register all the buttons properly if you use bluetooth. It's not even possible to get past the main menu because the ABXY buttons are all screwed up. Wired or the dongle works fine though.

        • Thats a bummer that it's seemingly not available anywhere at the moment

    • Don't bother with the most controllers these days, most develop analog drift, I had 2 dual sense controllers that were unusable due to drift. Apparently GuliKit has created controllers with no drift, as the sensors are contactless. I might consider getting one myself.

      • Judging by some of the reviews here, GuliKit's controller isn't all roses either, though hall effect is definitely nice.

Tbh, out of all the big boy's offerings, I've found the DualSense the better option, mainly because of the settings available to combat stick drift and snapback in DS4Windows. A Hat in Time and other platformers seem particularly sensitive to it, so it helped tremendously.

    • I personally prefer using Xbox Series controllers for PC with the official wireless adapter. The haptic stuff is cool though

    • Can anyone who has used one of these PS5 controllers on PC via Blutooth recommend me a good Blutooth dongle please? I bought one recently but honestly I think I bought a POS because it's never installed to Windows properly or ever detected a controller properly no matter how many times or things I've tried. I really just need a dongle that plugs in and works, but there doesn't seem to be any reliable "go to" brand or model out there, it's all just lots of generic ones I see.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      • +1

I usually use the bluetooth built-in to my motherboard, but for shits and giggles, I just tested out an old generic adapter I had floating around that looks like this. I can get 15m-20m away from it and it still works fine. Windows 10 picked it up immediately, didn't even need to look for a driver. I'm sure if you look at eBay, Amazon, AliExpress (if you can wait), you can find an identical looking adapter easily. I think I paid maybe $3 or $4 for mine years ago.

Also, to put the DualSense into bluetooth pairing mode, make sure you're pressing and holding these two buttons until the light around the touchpad starts flashing blue in a "flash-flash, pause, flash-flash, pause" repeating pattern. If you only press the PS button, it won't go into the proper pairing mode. It wasn't immediately obvious to me at all tbh.

on a PC? compared to an old xbox360 controller

Much better stick/button accuracy, charging convenience, etc than the old 360 controller (from someone who frequently uses both with my kids).

But it can be fiddlier than the more expensive xbox one/series controller (e.g.: some games need 3rd party software to make it run, or show xbox button prompts onscreen instead of PS ones).

    • I hate playing FPS games with a controller, but Metro Exodus with the dualsense controller's adaptive triggers is a very novel experience which I would recommend to anyone

  • Good price for those PS5 owners:)

    Great deal again thanks HN.

Has anyone had any experience connecting these via Bluetooth to a Samsung TV? Keen to use a couple of these with Steam Link.

    • Won't they connect to the steam link, and not the TV?

      • Steam Link is an app for Samsung TV

  • +3

Makes these ps5 bundles seem even worse value

  • +2

I got one of these a couple of weeks ago for $38 at Target. It had an opened box, and a label said "Doesn't connect", but the comment was crossed out and a tick next to it. Took a gamble, and it works great! I don't have a PS5, but I used it on my PC (via bluetooth) and I use it on my Switch (with my Mayflash Magic-S Pro 2 universal receiver). I used to use my xbox360 controller for everything, but now this PS5 controller is my new favourite.

    • +1

      sounds like a bargin there

  • +2

is it because new controllers coming out soon?

    • Hopefully they will finally fix the stick drift that plagues these controllers. Idk why they would cheap out on them so badly.

  • +5

People are buying from HN again now?

    • +3

Not really…just using HN to coerce other retailers to price match.

      • speak for yourself…

        • Go Harvey …GO.

    • People should try pricematch at JB

  • +6

The white PS5 remotes have an ongoing issue with the springs within the triggers. The coloured dual sense remotes have rectified this issue. I wouldn't purchase one of these as the triggers will fail.

    • +2

White should now also be the new FCC ID 1A model…though check to be certain. Wouldn't buy the white anyway as there are many more interesting colours out now.

      • Is it even possible to tell from the outside of the box though? I thought you could only tell from looking at the label on the controller itself, which means breaking the seal, so no returns.

        • +1

Yes so it's a small risk. I would think the old model had filtered through now as the upgrade white controllers started showing up in console packs back in June.
And considering there have been numerous sales on accessories in June sales, very little chance of white stand alone controllers being the old model.
Nearly all forums have stated the stand alone white controller are now the new 1A model.

  • I used it just to price match with JB HiFi

  • +1

Just price matched with Jb hi-fi :)

    • stack with perks?

  • The PS5 controller feels great generally but the last few weeks or so I've been getting cubital tunnel symptoms and I'm pretty sure the curve of the controller is enough to have changed my wrist angle from previous controllers. I've noticed my hands angling off my forearms with my wrists bending back rather than being straight in line. Could be an unrelated age and RSI thing from guitar too and correlation rather than causation but figure it's worth mentioning.

    • 😊 is a good help during HJ.

      • +2

Yes the wrist angle is very similar to eating a whopper from Hungry Jacks, I assume that is what you are talking about.

  • +1

OP should add the $7.99 for delivery as no stock was or is available for pick up

  • +1

Still dont get why a ps5 controller is cheaper than a ps4 one…

    • Only when on sale, and it's a volume in manufacturing case. The PS4 controllers will only get more expensive for new as manufacturing winds back. A few new PS2 controllers on eBay sell for over $100.

      • Over inflated ebay private sellers vs $rrp are two different things

    • Mass production. PS4 controllers manufacturing has been wound back. Simples.

  • +1

I mean with this price it's worth adding as my third PS5 controller right? Right?

    • I have three. 2 white (old model without any stick drift or R2 spring faults) and 1 black picked up for $67. Will now wait for the crystal clear which will inevitably happen.
