Anyone know the estimated installation costs? E.g for a Mazda 3 (2012). Thanks. Just looking for a ballpark figure.

    • +1

Depending on the place the installation on it's own without eventually needed harnesses should be around $150.

    • +3

Got a quote for my mazda 3 2012 also, it needs some special adapters and harnesses to retain the steering wheel control fucntions and the second info screen. Quoted $220 for parts, $250 for install of head unit and reverse camera

      • -1

Who normally does this kind of installation work?

        • +4

The place of purchase, an auto electrician, or do it yourself. I installed mine and I only have a rudimentary knowledge of car stereos. Plenty of YouTube videos if you get stuck.

  • Thanks @dosada . Saved me the trouble. I was going to buy it through eBay where it’s slightly more expensive after 22% discount code and using discounted gift cards from ShopBack.

Can this be installed on a Kia Sorrento?

    • -2

It can be installed in any car, the question is more if it's worth it

    • You would also need a fascia kit for it and loads of cables and adapters.
      https://www.streetsoundvision.com.au/dna-kia-k53555-fascia-p…

      I personally wouldn't do it

      • So is it because of the costs? or the appearance after installantion? If this can extended the usefulness of the car, likely in my case as I am super happy with the machnical side of my car but wish to have a better unit like this?

        • It depends on the car itself. If it is a ten-year-old car it's not such a big deal as not that many things are connected to the original system. If it's a nearly brand-new car where literally everything is involved in some way with the multimedia system i wouldn't touch it.

  • Great price for a wireless CP/AA device!

  • Anyone know if something like this would fit in a 2013 Golf MK7?

The car has been super reliable for the last 5 years but the only annoying thing is no Android Auto.

If I get this professionally installed what happens to all the car settings that go through the factory system? Things like setting date, time, lights on exit, reverse cameras, steering wheel controls.

Do you have to lose all that to get a good head unit, or do they somehow still link to the built in systems?

    • +1

Yes, you'd need to get a fascia kit and a canbus device for your steering wheel controls.

All those car settings in theory should be configurable from the head unit.

    • +1

Google your vehicle model's wiring harnesses ( and also fascia )

I did a 2015 Isuzu dmax from to stock, and you can get a harness that connects from the steering wheel, to the head unit, and everything still works from the steering wheel controls.

Check " aerpro " for harnesses, they usually have good shit

    • I have a Golf mk 6 and installed a RCD 330 head unit and love it. It was plug and play and was installed in about 20 minutes with no extra harnesses or different facias. I would try and stick to the genuine Volkswagen ones as they are likely to work better and have less issues than an aftermarket one (not to suggest this unit above is bad)
Perhaps look into something like this: https://gtzone.com.au/product/volkswagen-vw-golf-7-mk7-carpl…

I note you said your golf is mk 7 2013 but it may still apply to this one. The result is likely to function better and in my mind look a whole lot better as it looks like it came from the factory with CarPlay installed👌🤌

      • @pretzal

Thanks mate, that just looks like a OEM Golf head unit from another model, I really like the idea of going that way and don't have to muck around with different adapters. I'm going to message that place because that's much cheaper than getting a unit like this post and buying all the adapters and fascias.

        • No problems at all. With VW you generally have some options if you want to stay on brand as they are not total technophobes like some manufacturers. Obviously there are some manufacturers that have no options if you want to upgrade to something nice. Good luck with it

  • Pretty good price for a premium brand wireless unit. Having said that, I recently got an Atoto A7 Performance (2022) wireless unit for 300 bucks and it has been amazing value.

    • +1

Link to where you got this? Or even a link to the head unit specs? I cannot seem to find an A7 Performance, only A6.

      • Sorry typo, it is the A6 indeed. Very important to look at the 2022 model only, the older models don’t have wireless CP/AA.

Comes with ISO harness and built-in steering wheel controller.

        https://amzn.asia/d/gplHYRB

I imported from the US for USD 199 + shipping and tax.

  • how much approx would it cost for installation in 2014 CX-5 ?

    • Installations for all cars should be around $150-200 depending on the installer.

      • including harnesses?

        • Not a professional auto sparky but DIY enthusiast. I've installed many head units. Fascia kits range from $30 to $120 and harnesses are usually around the $35 mark (for the cleanest and quickest install, you'll need 2 harnesses. From stock car to ISO and then ISO to headunit brand).

After all that, it would generally take me 30 minutes to do the full install, add an hour for reverse camera.

        • Yes, extra for reversing cameras or anything special.

Harnesses are plug and play these days. Nothing complicated like before.

  • Tempted to buy this if someone could install it and not try rip me off.

I paid for a Kia Sportage GT Diesel 3 months ago and it’s due in December/Jan and about a month ago in my current car Kia Cerato, the stereo died.

It’s out of Warranty but trying to get Kia to replace it knowing I’ve been waiting on my new car. I’ve got the dealership involved to help out but if they don’t replace it this is what I’ve been looking at.

The issue I have is I’ve had quotes from places saying the install is $200 plus head unit price. I confirm I’ll go ahead and they give me some random crap saying it might be $1500 extra if they need to do extra work. Plus I need to pay $200 to check everything before they start.

  • I’d suggest to anyone to look at a YouTube video on how to replace a head unit for your car model.

You’ll be surprised at how simple it might be. Most complex part is usually taking parts of the dash off but with the right tool it’s not hard. If you fail…get it done professionally, but worth a crack yourself. You’ll be proud of yourself when you get it done.

TL:DR try fitting yourself before forking out for fitting.

For those located in Sydney we do installations onsite at Castle Hill and provide life time warranty on the installs..

Price will vary based on the vehicle.

How about a discount for me for sending so many customers your way? :)

    • How much do you normally charge for installation? 2014 CX-5

    • Could you give us a rough price range? Thanks!

    • +1

the price went back up is the deal over?

  • Does it come with the camera?

    No DAB+ Tuner :/

    • Great, no ads!

  • Can you watch Netflix or YouTube on the screen?

    • Of course not, android auto safety features suck!

      • What? Not even if parked with the handbrake on? That's crap

        • Not sure

        • -2

If youre driving, dont be a idiot.

If youre not driving, watch on your own phone.

          Simples.

@[Deactivated]: Sometimes I car camp and sleep in an SUV where I'd like to be able to enjoy watching on the screen.

I don't enjoy your condescending post.

    Signed yesterday, still no code

  • Looked at these models for a while and IMO -> They're simply not worth it.
I grabbed an Android powered headunit which has wireless Carplay/Android, reverse camera and purchased DAB+ adapter for about $480 delivered. (Took 2~ weeks)
Paid another $150~ for installation and it came with a factory fascia kit and utilised all existing loom/wiring for my Sportage.
Looks like a OEM HU and all steering wheel controls work without issue.

Having seen it done, I'd even consider a self install next time. (Especially if you're not getting the new reversing camera kit)

    • Super interesting!

I have been toying with getting rid of my 2008 Honda Civic but it's purring along so well (and I only drive 1-2 times per week) but honestly the only thing I'd like is a nice head unit to make it more 2018 and less 2008 :p

Anyone got any suggestions on which products to buy? I'd probably look at adding a reversing kit and paying someone to do the installation on Airtasker.

      • This one. Aerpro kit with adapters to retian steering wheel controls. Camera to suit. Bonza.

        • Cheers pal - got a link to the suggested product? I’ll check it out 👍

          • @StToffee: I don't, mid research myself.

  • +1

Volume buttons are on the wrong side. Make sure you have steering wheel controls.

    • This is swapable. The buttons aren’t hardware.

      • +1

Looks like hardware to me, captive touch buttons in the bezel.

  • looking for a multimedia play with wireless apple car play
Still want to go old school and use DVD/CDs if possible

lol they saw the deal was post here and the put the price up…
