It's like they all had a meeting and decided to massively drop the price a month after I'd bought it.

    • out of curiosity how much did you get it for?

    • ps4

  • +1

Arrrrgh, should i spend more on the ebgames bundle or not? Grrrrrr

    • nah I got the ebgames bundle yesterday with darksiders and GT5, two controllers( red/black) and DJ hero bundle.

I would have gone for this one instead.

      • why?
an extra controller is worth $65.

        387-249-65=73
pay an extra $73 for all the extras..

        what am i missing here?

        • +2

An extra controller is worth nothing if you don't want/need it.

        • darksiders was $7.50 @ Game, DJ Hero I don't really play and GT5 is $26. No use having something I wouldn't play (DJ Hero). So I see no value in it.

        • Get a controller of ebay. They're not great and not official, but they're 16 bucks each with free shipping

          http://bit.ly/LwREqc

        • More like $50 from Ozgameshop. Darksiders cost me $15 and GT5 was $20. At the current prices, that stuff should have been no more than $100 from Ozgameshop.

  • Ooh sounds good. Not a good game bundle though, but eh.

  • Good price. When's PS4 out though?

    • +10

A couple years I'd say, prototype hasn't even been unveiled nor has any official confirmation of its existence. Best case scenario for the fastest release; prototype unveiled next year's CES and any firm offerings at next year's E3 with a possible 2013 release for Christmas but that's a HUGE best case scenario in my opinion. There's no point in a PS4 release this year as Microsoft has confirmed no Xbox 720 announcements at E3 this year meaning definitely nothing by Christmas.

      TL;DR?
2013 Christmas release for next gen consoles at best, 2014 more likely, with 2015+ most probable.

    • Most people in the industry seem to think Feb-March 2014.

    • +3

My money is only Christmas 2013. Nearly every game announced for PS3 or 360 at E3 was given a release date in the first half of next year. A lot of these games are ones that would normally be out around Christmas time. It seems to me like they are getting the games out early in the year so as not to interfere with releases for the next gen consoles. Also E3 really highlighted the sort of "limbo" that the industry is in at the moment. The current gen is becoming stagnant and there has been no official word about new consoles (unless you count the Wii U - which I don't). Nobody really seems to know what to do.

  • -1

2016 if you follow Sony's spew about a ten-year life cycle.

    • +11

I may be wrong, but I do recall Sony spewing about this. Life cycle doesn't mean time between consoles, it means when they'll be supported. PS2's were around a while after the PS3 came out.

      • +7

Thank you, schnappy! You're exactly right. Getting annoyed with people misunderstanding this ten year life cycle thing.

  • OP, where can I find the PS3? I can't actually find any of the 'toy sale' products, just getting a big ad for the whole sale…

It says the catalogue will be available Saturday.

    • You will have to wait till tomorrow for the new online catalogue or for junk mail to be delivered to your house. Just check target site tomorrow.

    • +3

The catalogue is online now. PS3 is on page 60.
      http://catalogues.cataloguecentral.com.au/default.aspx?iid=6…

      • +1

On page 59 there is an Xbox with kinect, 4 games and 320gb hard drive for $349

        • Thanks for pointing that out. Even though I don't want a Kinect, that's $1 more than the JB Hi-Fi bundle to go from a 250GB HDD to 320GB. Does anybody know if there are any differences between the 4GB and 250GB models, other than the obvious, and the lack of a headset in the 4GB box?

  • -4

    Is this hackable?

    • +2

Don't know why ppl negged u(well, actually I know.but it's their problem …). Yes, it's "hackable", but I won't do it. No point. A couple of good games are enough for me to have fun for a year. Buying from overseas and selling on eBay, the cost for the fun is actually quite low.also, u can play online for free. Why crack it?its not like jb an iPhone

  • +1

Oooo, I have a $30 gift card as well. I've been trying to hold off buying a ps3, but this price might be enough to make me bite!

  • -6

    Can these be modded ?

  • +7

Ok i have 2 PS3 consoles and i still want this deal. what wrong with me? i need therapy!

  • "MX vs ATV Alive." Is not that game so old??

Not as good as the $199 Toys R Us deal ;)

  • This and PS3 Media Server - best thing ever :D

    • +2

Until you use a real media center like xbmc … :P

      • Agreed, been on Xbmc since the first Xbox, ps3 is the best for gaming though IMHO

  • +1

Going to be cheaper at Big W's Giant Toy Sale starting June 28.

    • +1

      Sources?

    • +1

I wouldn't be surprised if Dick Smith gets in on the act too. They've had some aggressive bargains in their online store lately, like yesterdays Kinect Bundle.

      • +1

i think thats cuz they are closing a lot of stores. possibly before Woolworth sells the brand

      • Don't make Dick angry.

      • Yeah I'm gonna hold out buying until others like jb and dicksmith jump in, they'll have better offers for sure.

    • BigW would be either $238 or $248.

    • +1

I had a look, $248 at BigW with choice of game, but no HDMI cable. Starts June 28.

      http://catalogues.bigw.com.au/portal/offerdetails/ps3-160gb-…

  • +3

My PS3 died a couple of months ago and I have been putting off getting a new one. Maybe this is the time to jump on it.

  • +1

Will I be able to swap the HDD from my original PS3 (died) ??

    • +1

I'm also interested to know this.

    • +2

You can but it will ask you to format it I believe so you'll lose everything on it anyway…

    • The closest you can do is to backup the content onto an external HDD and then restore it on the new one, but if the old one has died you're out of luck. Apparently the harddrive in the PS3 is encrypted uniquely to each console.

      Edit:
According to a post in this thread, it's possible to do a clone.
      http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/16395/can-i-backup…

  • +1

    3DS not on sale. :(

    • yes it is $219 with rayman origins a starter pack and dinosaur 3d front page of catologue

      • +1

Oh wow how did I miss that, haha. It's still not a hard sale though, probably going to wait it out for the K-Mart and Big W sales and see what rate they've got going. Since it's $220 at JB-Hifi at the mo' and I would never play those games the sale isn't for me I guess. Thanks for the heads up though!

  • +5

DAMN IT! I went for the EB 320gb bundle just last Thursday! And I haven't even opened it yet! Bought it as a motivation to study till exams are over!

Nevertheless props for Target. Amazing price, really.

Now I'm sad. I'm just going to bury myself in textbooks and notes… :(

  • Will Toyworld have this as if u find cheaper they not only match but beat by 10%

    • I meant toys r us lol

  • -2

Do math. Which is better 320GB for $385 or 160GB for $249?

    • +7

Not even a contest. $136 for an extra 160GB is clearly not worth it.

      • With heaps of extras though…

      • Though this deal may be worthwhile to some people:
        https://www.ebgames.com.au/ps3-999754-320GB-PlayStation-3--2…

So you're basically paying $138 for a 160GB bigger harddrive, extra controller, DJ Hero 2 (with turntable), Assassin's Creed 2 and GT5.

The extra games and controller can be bought from Ozgameshop for about $120 so this means that if you wanted all these games then you would only be paying $18 for double the size harddrive. Not a bad deal - if you want the games.

        • note you can switch AC2 with any $19 game from EB AFAIK

        • I noticed on a sign on their storefront this afternoon that you could from AC2 and three others. Though you could be right on that $19 thing.

  • this is really a very good deal~~~

  • Hope this becomes standard price.

  • -1

I see no link or online at target of any prices regarding PS3 bundles ect…

Where is you proof of these deals???

Searched new catalogue and yes it shows toy sale but no items or prices…

More info on this or it is not true.

    • This will be on sale from Thursday 21 June - Wednesday 11 July.

    • doh……did not see link above….my bad!

  • Do u think getting a 3ds now is a good idea since 3ds xl and wii u are coming out soon which should push down the prices further?

    • +3

It's the same with all tech. Take Apple for example. Is there any point in buying a iPhone 4S now when you know there is going to be an iPhone 5 out at the end of the year? Then at that point is there any point in buying an iPhone 5 when you know that an iPhone 6 is only 12 months off? Prices are dropping all the time, but at some point you have to decide to pull the trigger. My questions to you would be:

      1. Do you need/want a 3DS right now?
      2. Are you willing to wait for the possible price drop upon the launch of the 3DS XL?
      3. If you wait until the 3DS XL is released, will you just be tempted to buy that instead?
      4. Would you PREFER to get the 3DS XL?

      All the best!

      • It is always hard to decide these things. I will need to use my crystal ball of commerce to predict all future bargains and price drops.

  • all i want is a ps3 without a hdd for something like <$200…

    • This might take your fancy
      http://ebgames.com.au/ps3-141722-Sony-PlayStation-3-Console-…
      Preowned 40gb for $168

      • ha good one! i bought a pre-owned before from GAME. Never again. it stopped working after 30mins, and wouldnt turn back on till i removed the power. IMHO all pre owned ps3s are thrashed and not worth buying

    • Why wouldn't you want a HDD?

      • -2

Maybe he is using floppy disks for his save games.

        • Because i have like 3 spare ones lying around that i can use, why should i pay more for something im not going to use or need?

        • help the economy, indian!

  • If I buy one of these it will definitely end up as a glorified blu-ray player, which wouldn't see it being used to its full potential and is a waste. Gotta say that is a stunning price and very tempting to buy.

    • +1

thing is you can still use this as a media streaming device from your pc. Thats what mine is being used for most of the time

      • Works really well for this purpose!

        • True that. However, most of my digital library of content(movies, music, etc) is on an external HDD which conveniently interfaces with the onboard USB port of our family room's 42" TV so I can access everything quite easily, if the need ever arises.

  • Has anyone noticed gaming consoles and games are getting cheaper nowadays? I think it has something to do with the indirect competition against tablets, smart phones etc. and the cheap $1 or $2 apps on App Store or Play Store. Back to 15-20 years ago a super Nintendo or ps game would cost avg of $100 each and no matter how old and crap they were would never drop below $50.

    • +1

These are certainly great times we live in to be a gamer/tech enthusiast. Prices are much more flexible and always dropping, unlike the days of old. It is also partly due to massive amounts of piracy on the PC platform, region free titles/cheaper foreign imports(dis intermediation), greater competition between console manufacturers and a more rapid hardware development cycle.

  • Anyone knows if the Westfield gift cards can be used at Target? If so we are talking about $149.40 out of pocket for the PS3 bundle for those who bought enough from the Groupon deal Weeks ago.

  • Some retailers may choose not to accept the gift card. This includes the Coles Group (with the exclusion of Kmart and Target) and Myer.

So YES, You can use it at TARGET

    http://www.target.com.au/termsandconditions/westfield-giftca…

But I don't think the westfield cards will come by tomorrow to buy it.

  • Are the PS3's likely to sell out with a sale like this?

    • I bought the Target bundle tonight at Parramatta Westfields. Safe to say… yes it'll run out… seeing as they ran out in like 15 minutes. They sold quite a few of them from what i saw.

The staff said they might get more stock from the warehouse but highly doubt it.

      • Nice work! I thought the sale starts tomorrow though? I can get to the shop first thing in the morning.

        • Starts tomorrow. Only some stores had a preview night.

  • Called target and you can't change the game in the bundle apparently, that sucks… sigh Dam you Big W starting a week later, gonna waste a extra 20 bucks on Little big planet 2

    • Shrug. only if you find any stock. The BiGW website is getting hammered

    • they're selling out fast apparently they released it yesterday at 6pm wtf… It sold out where I went but I just asked for A 160gb PS3 for 249 and they ended up giving me the PS3 the shitty bike game and $16 hdmi cable then discounted it all down to $249.

      • If they sell out Kmart have just the Ps3 for $229 starting next week. You can get that one. No game or Hdmi cable but still one great deal for a PS3 160GB.

  • Put this on layby at the store last night (Huge lines, never seen so many people)… great deal. As I wanted the HDMI cable. So that put it over the Big W one for me and the K Mart one.

  • Also I would not bother with the price match or beat it, from Toys R Us or JB or anything, they ring the store to find out if they have any stock and as most have sold out already they say nope, no deal for you… :(

  • This concerted effort by all the major retailers to reduce their prices on the xboxs and ps3s makes me wonder if this is going to be a permanent price drop on these products.

    • I guess that the price might pick up after middle July. Financial year clearance anyway and the new generations of console is still far away …..

      • I just realised there might be a revision coming up for Christmas and suppliers are clearing out excess stock?

Clear out stock now, revision introduced late August or September for Christmas?

  • +1

Seems like everywhere around Perth is out of stock… missed the last one in carousel by 2 minutes :( (sometime around 1pm)

  • I'd say you had to of been at Target right when the doors opened in the morning to pickup this deal. Like i was at Target yesterday when the doors opened and was lucky to be the first person in the store to pickup the PS3 deal. It's probably out of stock now.

  • Just some info, the trade-in value of that crap game is $20 @ JB and $11.50 @ Eb games.

    • Selling on ebay I got $27

  • Purchased at my local target, none in stock but they let me put in an order through layby so I get it at that price I'm not in any rush so I'm happy with that :)
