Until TNT/StarTrack leaves you a "We Missed You" card making you drive the same distance to the post office.

      • +3

That’s been happening ALOT to me lately from startrak.. Is this common knowledge that they’re generally terrible?

I was home everytime .. they didn’t even leave a card or try to drop the parcels .. I just get a text later that they ‘tried’ to deliver and know I have to pick it up from the post office smh

        • +2

StarTrack is just shit in general (did you honestly expect anything better with AusPost?)

TNT is better, but when they cock up they do so royally. Like handing over a $2k laptop to the wrong address. Or driving past at 4:45pm on a Friday afternoon and marking as "business not open" (we're open til 5:30pm) because they couldn't be arsed delivering and the driver wanted to get home in time.

      • TNT doesn't send things to the post office, it goes to the TNT depot and they will redeliver it for you.

Startrack will go to the post office because it is an Australia Post business.

        • Some of my TNT customers have had to pick up from BP or other random places nearby. One of my customers had the driver deliver the card to the wrong address, then asked the recipient to collect from BP servo.

      • My post office is much closer to my house than the nearest Apple store.

better deal, expired not long ago.

People here have mentioned that Apple's use better quality materials.

Also you're comparing the electrical engineering prowess of a national brand that wont ever see much light outside of ANZ against a US tech giant thats practically known by everyone. So there's also that.

      • +8

Apple doesn't necessarily use the highest quality materials because of the profile margin.
The materials they use is good enough.
I prefer brands like Belkin because they are slightly better than Apple ones based on expert reviews.
Secondly, by not buying Apple chargers you help them to reach their environmental friendly goals much faster.

        • -2

What in the world is with your logic? How will it be environmentally friendly if you still buy a charger just from another brand?

Apple are the only ones using Japanese capacitors and copper cooling plates so they do use the highest quality material. Not sure what expert you're referring to but Belkin is definately not better than Apple.

        • -1

I'd be interested to see some of the expert reviews recommending Belkin.

I have both brands of charger and mostly haven't had an issue with either. I picked up quite a few Belkin chargers on clearance at DSE and they're all still working. One Belkin GAN went back as there was something loose inside it.

        • Here are two teardowns:

          Belkin 18/20W - Topaz caps(Chinese)

          Apple 20W - Nichicon caps(Japanese)

A bit old, but a comparison of chargers in 2012 - Note Apple rates above Belkin:

Why do people go nuts over genuine chargers and it's only 20w..

    • +2

      because they works as expected

      • -4

So does every other branded charger

      • Mine doesn't work as expected as it will not power my wireless charger

        • Which wireless charger?

Pay a slight premium to avoid risk of fire, worth it IMO.

      • +3

Cygnet and Anker have risk of fire?

        • +1

Sure any mass produced product have a risk of fire. I'd bet that some people value a warranty. If an Apple charger damages your Apple device, it might be harder for Apple to weasel out of a warranty claim.

          • @t25: And exactly how often does that happen? Everything has to be proven for warranty purposes anyway , especially when damage has occurred to a device .

      • plugged in all the time
      • expected to last the life of the connector(10+ years)
      • Minimal issues reported in many reviews
      • Apple chargers are consistently shown to use quality components and well designed in tear downs
      • Newer fast charging standards aren't a concern in many cases(eg. overnight charging)
    • Who's 'going nuts'?

  • +1

I got a couple of Google 30W chargers for us when they were on offer a little while back. The 12, 13 and 14 Pros take advantage of >20W and I fugured Google was a pretty reputable brand also

  • With all the deals coming thru TGG commercial, I kinda regret not signing up when we could with the sunsuper thing 😭

    • How does one sign up to TGG Commercial?

  • +1

I’d personally go for Mophie GaN chargers if you really need something Apple endorsed. Recently used Mophie and found them better quality than Belkin.

  • It's $26 delivered (free with Prime) on Amazon.
