  • Anyone know if this would be capable of playing genshin impact? Daughter looking for a new phone capable of playing it. TIA

    • Nah, better off getting a refurbished flagship

    • +4

778+ is a very decent chipset.

FWIW, I have a poco X3 NFC, 732g CPU and genshin runs alright at low settings (not lowest).

778+ should be more than enough unless she wants to have it running near max graphical settings.

    • +1

Genshin Impact play at the 10:45 mark on this review https://youtu.be/0otpNdZTEbI

    • I saw a review video, he was playing it with this phone if I remember correctly. Please don't take my word for it though!

  • +2

Great deal. Would have jumped on this if I had not gotten the G51 yesterday!

  • Ahh damn dawg I bought the g51 yesterday and I thought that was a steal, think JB would let me return it and pick this up?

Coming from a find X pro 2 I already miss the screen but the g51 is honestly a great phone for 200$.

    • +1

In the same boat as you. I opened the box but have not used the phone. Doubt JB will allow a return.

If you have not opened the box, you should be able to swap it.

      • Ive opened it haha dammit.

        • Ahh man, I feel for you!

          • +1

@sammysamsam: all i can do is pray for a fault now haha

    • Sell it on gumtree

  • Oh my god, is that a headphone jack? In an local market phone? Is my eyes deceiving me?

    • +3

No headphone jack or microsd card slot in the edge 30.

      • +2

        (profanity) office work lied.

        Some things never changes.

        • +1

Thats whats better about the edge 20 fusion over the edge 30.

          • -1

@xoom: Headphone jack compromises water resistance though. Edge 30 has low water resistance which it would be nil if it had an headphone jack.

    • Think no wireless charging either

  • +4

My gf has this one and I love it , I'm thinking of selling my pixel 6 and getting this one. Yeah it'd be a huge downgrade in terms of photo quality but the advantages are several

    1) cheaper
    2) sooo much lighter - it must be the lightest smartphone out there, while p6 must be the heaviest
    3) nicer looking imo
    4) less buggy
    5) battery life is better , even though it has a much smaller battery capacity
    6) fast charging is a lot faster than p6

I don't really mind photo quality - not a photo person, I only take photos of my dogs and occasionally my gf (😇).
Plus does anyone know if it's possible to sideload google camera?

No wireless charging but I don't care, not using it with the p6 anyways.

The only thing that makes me want to keep the p6 is the waterproofing, which is great on it and near non-existent in the edge 30. 🧐

    • +1

You can always install gcam https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

Just pick the right port for your phone.

      • Thank you so much! Looks a bit messy but I'll have a go on my gf's phone, cheers!

      • Yeah but does this actually work properly. All the phones I had as well as installing this had annoying bugs.

It was a PITA then not sure about now.

  • Supposedly a $700 phone and still has no wireless charging or waterproof rating!

    • +12

      It's now a $349 phone.

  • +2

These 'cheaper' phones always look 'better' than the most expensive ones.

  • Is this phone better than Samsung A32? Thank you

    • +3

If you use the comparison tool at gsmarena you can put the two phones side by side and see for yourself.

    Poco f4 better deal

    • Link?

    • +2

      Poco no warranty

    • Not sure how you could find an f4 at this price. An f3 if you're lucky.

    • I have 3 poco f3's of various levels of useable because of hardware just flat out failing. So disappointing.

One digitiser went nuts and started doing random touches everywhere constantly making it unusable, the other one the screen just went black but everything else worked. Two of them the WiFi would just stop working randomly for days at a time. And try to get the suppliers to do anything about it.

  • +1

I wanted to post this deal but before that I want to buy. such a good price.

  • +2

Should I cancel G51 Order to buy this? Buying it for mum.

  • +2

    G51 - bigger screen & battery

    Edge 30 - better screen & lighter

Probably the edge is better for smaller hands

  • Anyone managed to pricematch with officeworks ? OoS at most OW stores. Can we call or chat to pricematch ?

    • Stuck at the same step. It looks like their phones only work Mon-Fri.

When does this price reduction of JB finish?

It is not from Catalogue so could be one day only.

Just bought this Motorola, can't find any cases or screen protectors yet at a shop.

Otherwise have to revert to Amazon or Ebay any suggestions?

    • It comes with a clear plastic case
3rd party cases and screen protectors are almost impossible to find for this one

      • -1

Edge 30 tempered glass based on 30 seconds research https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144545661206

        • -3

yeah I was talking about regular shops, where you can see what you buy, not internet
would def not buy form ebay where stuff is not even being reviewed. Many screen protectors for the Edge 30 have very low ratings on amazon - people complaining they fit poorly on the display

          • +3

@liongalahad: I've bought many random tempered glass on eBay over the years. Only one was unclear. All fit well.

    • +1

Edge 30 has Gorilla Glass 3. Can't see a need to add a screen protector.

Been using G7+ (with Gorilla Glass 3) for 3 years without a screen protector or full case (just use included bumper case).
Not even a scratch - looks & works like new.

Has had a few falls. But it does have aluminium frame & Gorilla Glass 3 front & back. Edge 30 is more plastic.

  • I have the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion 5G and fortunately it is still on Android 11 and no date for android 12. Due to this I will look at a Samsung or Google phones that have regular updates for my next phone.

    • +1

I just got the 12 update on my E20F, maybe it can't be far off for your phone

      • +1

Nice. Will see if my edge 20 fusion gets the update.

Stuck at the payment page where you must enter a mobile phone number. But it's keep on saying that phone number is invalid. Either put 0 or not at the prefix, still error. Tried checkout as either member or guess still same error.

Edit: smashed the CONFIRM button like few times then suddenly the mobile number field refreshed with +614xxx then it successfully went to the last page. Paid ok after that.

    • +1

Yeah, I've experienced that problem as well.
      Garbage website.
Like, do you want a f'ing 0 or not?
Considering it says +61, one would assume not.

  • +2

Uses the Samsung S5KJN1 sensor for the main camera shooter according to this

For so many pixels, you'd think it would do a better job of night time shots, but it still seems to perform pretty poorly.

I'm also sad to see the USB port is only 2.0. I can understand having limited storage on the device, and forgoing the microsd card slot and audio jack, but then to also cripple the main data port so that you can't get around those deficits.. why

It seems like an alright phone for something middle of the range, but I can't help thinking you're better to go cheaper for a basic phone or more expensive and get a phone with decent features. Personally I wish they'd leave out the 5g, go back to ~5" screens, and use the money to improve the camera.

  • Why wont afterpay ever work with JB always declined

  • +1

    Decent bang for buck.
Plenty of stock @ JB but OW drying up.
Useless cnuts at OW don't answer the phone so I guess they saved me some money.
Still using the LG Velvet from the JB deal not long ago that was $299 so whatevs.

    • -1

      Well done to you 👏

  • +1

Thanks Op got one. Does anyone know of a good case and screen protector?

    • +1

It comes with a case, charger and headphones. Picked one up today.

      • +1

My Moto 5 G5 came with a case - and is the first time I've had the screen smash when dropped.

        • Unlike the cheaper G51 etc, Edge 30 has rugged Gorilla Glass 3 to protect screen.

          Read your $165 accident! Ouch!!
Thanks. A good warning. Forgot about that issue, as haven't cracked a screen in years. Another reason why I didn't buy the G51!

Never used a screen protector & only use the included bumper case on my 3yr old Gorilla Glass Moto G7+. Not even a scratch.

But these are all more plastic - frame, back, edges. Mine is built more rugged with aluminium frame, GG3 front & back. The included bumper case protects the plastic edges.

Had many cracked screens. Sat down with Telstra cheapie in back pocket… heard the screen crack. And a few others were dropped (case & screen protector)… screen cracked.
So I love Gorilla Glass 3!

          • @INFIDEL: Yes, I used to look out for Gorilla Glass screens biut it seems to have dropped off the radar in the past couple of years (within my budget, at least).

My current (smashed) phone is Moto G 5G Plus (not a 5 G5 as I mistyped earlier), but the info for the glass is hard to find, so as it doesn't clearly specify it's Gorilla Glass 3, I assume it isn't.

However, it doesn't clearly say the Edge 30 has a Goriila Glass screen either; the Motorola website mentions its use for the back, but not for the actual screen.
            "Body:
Gorilla® Glass 3 Back is PMMA with matte finish, middle frame is plastic with a glossy matte finish"
            "Display Size
6.5"" display (protective film should be within 0.5 mm to ensure FOD and display feature)"

The website does clearly specify this for your Moto G7 Plus though:
            "Display Design
            Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3"

      • Hi, so what do you think of the phone? Are the headphones okay? You happy with it? Is there a screen protector included/pre installed? Thanks

      • Are the headphones any good? Do you know the model name?

    • Try to install Gcam, and let us know how it performs.

  • +2

Awesome thanks for this. Picked the last one up from my local officeworks for 331. Happy days.

    • +1

Did the same on Saturday at local officeworks, last one remaining for 331.
Best bang for buck phone imo, it's attractive and just the right size.
Almost went for the G52 but this phone ticked all the right boxes for me.
      GG3 screen protection.
      Fast charging.
      Better processor, display and camera.
Loud stereo sound and fast finger print sensor.
Happy that Motorola provided buds, case and 33 watt charger on this one.

      • What model buds are provided?

        • +1

Just a standard wired bud with mic, nothing fancy but glad it's included anyway.
Was comparing with the G51* (typo) deal as I don't think that came with any useful accessories.

    • thanks got one off amazon

      • Temporary out of stock at Amazon

        • Wondering how long usually they’ll fulfill the order for something like this? And do they charge te payment immediately or later?

          • @hanofee: Amazon will charge when purchase is shipped.

    • thumbs up.

  • How's Moto security? How many updates left in this phone?

    • +1

Motorola usually does 2 (major Android version) updates (but don't count on it. Despite their lack of Android bloat, like a Pixel, a Pixel it is not).

It comes with Android 12 and has already been confirmed for Android 13.

    • A weak point along with cameras. Nice near-stock Android though.

I am a professional photographer and anyone that says the camera quality on these phones is subpar are all parroting complete and utter bullshit! Its not the tools now, its the idiot operating them thats the problem on anything from 12mpix and up! You need to know about color balance, framing and lens distortion and while the apps make a LOT of magic happen in the background, you still need to take the time to master photography and getting the best from the camera app. Often you can use 3rd party camera apps, especially for video like my FAVOURITE FilmicPro. True they do more magic but also let you do lots more manualy with heaps of tips and tricks. Its a bloggers best friend!

    • So all the reviews (with basic test photos in different uses) & people complaining about poor images from these Moto phones - are all parroting complete and utter bullshit!??

I don't think so. Have you read the reviews?

My professional photographer friend agrees, & wouldn't touch these midrange Motos. But he does also use a mobile for photos - just a far better one acknowledged for photographic use.

The same sensor module used in different phones is known to produce very different results. So its nothing to do with number of MP.

More professional type App functions often don't work with these phones. And the format files are saved by phone may not be suited to high quality editing.

Filmic Pro Evaluator is free to check your mobile's capabilities. But read the review comments. Although it says features are available on phone, those may not work after paying $21.

There are mobiles that take amazing photos. These Motos are better at other tasks.

Of course better skills in photography will help, but won't overcome limitations in these devices.

    • what photo app do you suggest to use to improve photo quality?

  • This or the Oppo A96 128GB [https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/oppo-a96-128gb-starry-black] for the same price?

    • If don't want 5G for same price!

    • +2

if you look at the specs the Edge 30 is definitely the winner

  • +2

Yeah so called "deals" are the price these phones should be selling for in the first place. We are all hostage to the money extorting greedy companies and most of us don't even realise that.

    • +1

well, if this one is really worth $350, no way in the whole world a Pixel 6 should be worth $1k or even 800, or an iPhone14 $1400

      • Absolutely!
