Electric Chainsaw 14" 1800W $62 @ Masters

320

I mentioned this in the Masters 10% post, but after using it think it is worth a submission.
The equivalent sells for $99 at Bunnings and I cannot find anywhere else cheaper.

Oregon chain and bar, automatic oiling, easy tensioning - not much else to say.
Except that for a 1/4 acre block, I'm converted to electric. Much better than a small 2-stroke. Less noise and vibration. Instant on/off. No fuel mixing. Obviously no good on country acres, but if a 25m extension cord covers your yards, then the cord is easier. (And you do not want to pay for, or lift, an 1800W battery.)

It easily sliced through a stump that went to the limit of the 14" (36cm) bar. Like a hot knife through butter on branches that would have taken 10 minutes to saw.

Not available for delivery. You pay online to get the 10% off, and pickup in the shop.

update: now 10% off with Woolies card, as $10-off code has expired.

      • +6

        A massacre within a 25 metre radius

        • +1

its ok i got a portable power generator that can be wear as a backpack.

    • +2

this tool is friday the 13th safe, as it requires a few metres of cord extension and a power source to massacre someone in the forest :)

      • +1

Agreed, 'Texas' safe too I believe. Budding LeatherFaces will be hobbled somewhat if they're gonna cart a genny around on their backs! ;)

  • -1

Shame. I really like getting my groove on with power tools. This one is sold out in WA. Can not even get it delivered.

    • Baldivis has stock.

    • +1

Perhaps "groove" is not the most appropriate word to use, when talking about chain saws!

  • +3

nice bargain… nice timing too! I'm preparing for the next zombie onslaught.

    • +3

gonna need a long extension cord then

      • good luck with it when the power goes out.

      • -2

And hope there are no ex-electrician zombies

        • even if they are, they won't have the brains to power it off… get it? brains? :P

  • -1

      • +1

Well, if I put in 2222 as postcode there is no delivery option. Only in-store pick up.

Website says: Unavailable for Post / Unavailable for Delivery

  • +2

    How much are replacement chains?

This deal is great timing as I'm off to Texas next month…

    • +2

Oregon replacement chains are $25 on ebay, or $10 for no-name.
But I don't really expect this chainsaw to outlast the first chain. You just need a round file to sharpen it.

This deal is great timing as I'm off to Texas next month…

      Sorry, 240V only.

      • -1

don't they sell them instore ?

  • It's been that price since Masteres opened as far as I'm aware. I purchased the two stroke chainsaw for $89 with discount. So much more versatile and convenient and for less than $90 you can't go wrong.

I didn't look in masters for the 909 brand chains, but Ozito are around the $30 - $40 mark whilst the cheaper brands (yes there are cheaper) are $23 from bunnings (12 inch chains). Does the job so far… fell a fair few trees with no worries.

Go the 909 2 stroke because
    a) Cheap to run
    b) No wires
    c) 2 Stroke is not difficult to mix
    c) More power
    d) Only slightly more expensive

    • +13

      Go the 909 2 stroke

it depends what you're using it for… the 2 stroke is more noisy…

sometimes, you may not want anyone to know what you are doing… eyewitnesses just means more work…

      • True dat.

      • +2

you're joking right?! although the 2 stroke may make more noise both it and the electric make enough noise to, well, raise the dead!(yeah yeah friday the 13th next month!) so you can't mention the words 'stealth' and 'chainsaw' in the same sentence-that's why you won't find a chainsaw in a game like Splinter Cell!

don't take having catalogues for granted. where I live we barely get any, and if we do get any the sale usually would have already started, or in some cases already finished :(

therefore, for a person like me ozbargain is very useful and keeps me up to date on what I would otherwise be missing out on due to lack of catalogues. I also don't have time to check up and read all the online catalogues, another plus for ozbargain and thoughtful (and a myriad of other positive qualities) deal posters.

      keep voting this guy down.
      lets get 100 negative votes!

      Only unadvertised specials are bargains???

      What are you on?

    • If you want to be a troll you need to study and learn from someone good at it like jv.

The foundation of successful trolling is being discreet enough that most people don't realise you're doing it.

      • why is there a need to look up to someone who is good at providing pointless, useless and mostly offensive information?

it's like saying, "oh yeah, my young padawan you have ways more to go, you need to look up to that douchebag over there, he is the epitome of wasting people's time."

        • Everybody needs role-models slowmo! :p

        • -1

StewBalls, check out the thread re: SSD. I not only got more +1's, most people agree with me not you :)

          Have a great day.

  • +5

We don't all see the same catalogues each week, and there is no obligation to read what one finds mundane. It is refreshing to see Bunnings at last have some real competition.

    • -1

two things wrong with the new Preston Masters store though…

      • no play area for kids…
      • no cafe inside, just a crappy outdoor coffee cart…
      • +2

Well, if they sell chainsaws, there's plenty to keep the kids entertained.

      • No cafe and kids play area = lower overheads = lower prices for customers. My local Bunnings store's play area is seldom used but it still takes up space and must be maintained.

  • After copy + pasting code from above I get "We're sorry but we were unable to validate your Promotional voucher code."

Anyone else in Bris get same, maybe only valid elsewhere?

    • Tried it yesterday and it worked. Make sure it is all in capitals.

      SPEND50GET10

      • It's not working for me either in Brisbane, cut and pasted code.

I feel quite chopped up about this:(

        • 16 July expiry unfortunately.

        • +3

It's still June here in Bris. :)

        • @ScottLetts
You must be one of those forward-thinkers :-)

…lot of options to buy a chainsaw from ebay CHEAPER …my 2 cents worth

    • link.

    • you care to share links?

    • link or it didn't happen.

    • too bad you can't take it back to ebay for refund/warranty though…

  • Anyone making a movie called SAW Australia?

  • Closest store to Adelaide is over 300km away. Is it worth the drive?

  • Sunshine, VIC: "We're sorry but we were unable to validate your Promotional voucher code."

  • Chainsaw. Yes please :)

"The chainsaw mutilates enemies close enough to contact. At 525 hits per minute, it is roughly a quadruple-speed fist. It is often used, because it conserves ammo, its "rapid fire" works well on enemies with high pain chance which minimizes damage in melee situations, and because of its gory implications."

    • +2

You should also ask at the service desk for Quad Damage! :)

  • Heard back from CS and they are putting the code issue right. Will update when I have another look at ordering - a few things now.

  • +2

I thinking about getting one of these to cut the grass. Mowers are just too expensive.

    • +1

Hell, why not? It's like using a sledge hammer to push a thumb-tack to frame your Beiber poster in your bedroom.

  • Okay bought one with 10% off by registering using the Everyday Rewards cards - $62.10.

    Zombie Apocalypse here I come.

  • Where is a Masters Store anywhere near Gosford (NSW, 2250)?

  • "We're sorry but we were unable to validate your Promotional voucher code.
Please check your code and re-enter if incorrect.
If there is still an issue, please contact our Customer Support team on 1300 337 707."

anyone got a link to the original offer/where the coupon code came from?

    Should be marked as expired

But did get 10% off with everyday rewards card.

  • The chainsaw just stopped working. Broken power switch? Motor blown?
Will now find out how good the warranty is. :-(

The problem is I am halfway through felling a 6m tree. I hope we don't get another storm here before I can finish the job.

    • That's a worry - mine's still in it's box.

You shouldn't have a problem getting a replacement one or even a refund.

    • +1

I am a complete moron. Lucky I have not decapitated myself.
Unlike petrol chainsaws, electric ones apparently do not start when the kickback bar is forward.
It's just an electric switch, not mechanical.

One the plus side, the tree fell down beautifully - gracefully and just where it was meant to.
I was utterly unable to resist yelling TIM-BERRRR!!
