    No international calls?

    • +4

      Nope, just international text.

If you need International Calls, see Coles Mobile.

      • Awesome thank you

        • Don’t go for Coles mobile. Crappy network from my personal experience.

          • @karseeeejaaaa: Which network do they use?

          • @karseeeejaaaa: Dunno why someone negged you. I also get black spots with floptus. Though I imagine voda has their own similar issues

      • But Coles Mobile has no eSIM support (yet, or most of MVNO anyway). Bummer.

    • Similar product is often on sale at Costco for $150 or so, with 240GB and 1,200 IDD mins to select countries.

  • +6

I just ported out from Boost to Vodafail, so that I can see out my 30 Days and then do the $69 Jb Hifi Plan (hopefully with a $20 Port in Credit)

It’s only been a few days, but OMG !!

Honestly, even if this starter pack was 90% off, I couldn’t do it..

I haven’t had dropouts and terrible reception like this since 2006, which is when I left Vodafail

    • +9

It works great for me. I guess it depends on your location.

      • +1

No issues what so ever with Vodafone, I even get 5G signal inside my house around The Hills district of Sydney.

    • +1

Vodafone is only good in cities or in some remote towns. Otherwise yes, Optus is better, or Telstra for coverage. I have noticed that Vodafone has a real hard time punching through concrete & walls in Brisbane city, where as Optus & Telstra seem fine.

      • +3

Telstra and Optus aren't "punching through concrete". If you get better indoor converge it's because they have a large number of IBC's (In Building Cells).
Voda has IBC's also, so it really depends on the buildings you're entering, but Telstra has the most.
You can view these cell locations on the RFNS site.

        • It's a metaphor for inside buildings. Course it's not literally punching through concrete Captain.

          • @checkingthisout: Actually 4G can get through and around concrete if a high powered cell is close to the other side of that wall. It's not impossible.
            No need to get snooty.

            • +5

@SimAus007: One minute 4G can't punch through concrete, next minute it can punch through concrete. I've learned a lot today.

              • -3

@checkingthisout: LOL now who's taking things too literally.
Get some sleep, you don't need to have such an attitude.
You never mentioned in building cells so I was simply.clarifying how that works as some.may not know or understand how RF works from MNO's.

                • @SimAus007: You straight up started this by saying cellular can't go through walls. Then you changed your mind.

Anyway, It's more likely the spectrum allocation, the band or frequency that spectrum is on that determines the strength in these locations, such as pubs, under ground, car parks, where Vodafone wasn't performing well. Less likely an IBC. Because Telstra also was failing, yet Optus wasn't at those locations.

I am in an underground location right now, and Vodafone is considerably worse than when I was on level 4 near a window. Yet Telstra is fine, as is Optus.

                  • @checkingthisout: Yep, 900 Mhz range performs much better at penetrating walls due to larger wavelengths, Voda has plenty of this frequency allocation.
I have Telstra IBC's throughout my apartment block, including in the basement car park levels.
I've installed plenty of IBC's as a contractor, almost all large
commerical buildings in cap city areas have them.

                    • @SimAus007: Then we've come to a wholesome ending, could be spectrum, could be lack of IBC, knowing it to be Vodafail, which I am currently using via Felix, I am going to assume it's because of their shitty use of the spectrum and not a lack of IBC in these particular areas.

                      • +1

@checkingthisout: If you punch an address into RFNS you'll see what networks have them installed where you are. Yes, Vodafone don't have anywhere near as many IBC's as Telstra, that probably goes without saying..
Telstra has more than twice as many as Optus.
Westfield shopping, as an example, usually have all 3.

                        • @SimAus007: A good one is the Dymocks book store in Brisbane 72 Queen St, Brisbane City QLD 4000

Total fail whale for Vodafone in that area whenever you go underneath.

      • Was a Vodafone customer, I got two of these the last time they were half price. They obviously won't let you as a customer use this, so I had to port into Optus and back in a week later. It's was hard to receive texts, sometimes they'd go missing for hours, at one stage nothing would work as the network had me internationally roaming, I can understand when this happens in Europe, but Australia lol..

Then to top it all off they held onto our data even though we weren't customers anymore and guess what happened.

Vodafone is far superior in Brisbane anyway..

      • I honestly have far better speeds with Vodafone in my area but need Telstra reception for my remote work.

    • Works perfectly for me in Melbourne. I get.great speeds and coverage just about everywhere I travel.
It'll be different for everyone, obviously.

    • +5

On a same boat here. Terrible reception and a lot of dropouts.

      • +3

I’m really gonna struggle to see out the 30 days.. It’s so terrible, and I’m in the heart of a metro area, so there are no excuses

    • +5

Boost, woolies mobile, telstra 365 day prepaid is better.

    • Call the RACV !

    • +1

Same here, ported from Boost to Vodafone, terrible indoor reception, sometimes 3G in my work place! 5G speed is also very slow compare to Boost, I got 800Mbps with Boost 5G, can’t even get 100Mbps sometimes with Vodafone 5G.

      • +1

        I feel your pain.

It took me three shots to reply to you 😂

  • Any way to use this if I am currently with them? Need to port out and back in I guess?

    • +2

Yep, you can port to Felix for free (30 days) and back (they have the eSIM option also)

  • +3

What are the advantages of this Sim over Boost, which I can also afford?

    • +1

      Only advantage would be price.

    • With boost you will get much better reception and data speed plus international calling.

    • Wifi Calling.
The Vodafone website claims: "No, Wi-Fi Calling is not available while roaming internationally."

Against this, my Boost (Telstra) wifi calling has been rock solid, including internationally.

      • +2

It's the first thing I turn off
I have never had wifi calling work as well as mobile calls :(

    • +1

An advantage with the Vodafone sim is you would have an excuse for not calling all your overseas relatives.

  • Do they have an expiry date when to activate by? So I can buy this earlier before my current yearly plan expires

    • +1

As above - Voucher must be activated within 6 months of purchase to avoid expiry.

  • -2

$0.83/GB is not bad. Not great, but not terrible.

At $10.416/Month for this deal for 12.5GB month, you can get $15 a month for 120GB with Circles Life possibly. Using FINDER120 on the 50GB plan.

Switched to voda a couple years back because it was cheaper. Reception was always terrible, pretty much never got consistent service unless I was in the city. Not sure how it is now. Could be better. Probably never going back regardless.

    • +1

It is the same: Vodafone is very city centric because Vodafone failed to invest in remote regions then sold that to TPG, still not sure why TPG purchased Vodafone TBH.

Source, I have Telstra, Optus & Vodafone on my iPhone as ESIMS.

Optus is probably on par with Telstra if not better in most parts, Vodafone is only good in a city and some major roads or towns.

        • +1

I have read the ACCC minor report, it's not going to happen, clear the ACCC wants Optus and Vodafone to have a go at coming together.

I was flip flopping from side to side about whether it would be good, but when you read the report, the spectrum, leasing, towers being removed, and massive payments to Telstra is so much in Telstra favour that it's just never going to happen.

The preliminary report reads as, "We want to increase competition, but so far we don't see this happening, please give us more time & your thoughts (request for comment) to come to a final conclusion"

          • +2

@checkingthisout: Too often the ACCC either doesn't know what's in the consumer interest, or doesn't lift a finger. This sharing agreement can only be a good thing for Vodafone's competitiveness and expand the suitability of their products for many people.
It's worth noting the ACCC couldn't block the TPG/Voda merger as the article says, and this being less of a major change is hopefully a promising sign.

            • +2

@Techie4066: Most people say that because of the POI NBN debacle. But most other things the ACCC does good work.

Read the report. It’s definitely a win for Telstra, the payments are obscene, guaranteed profit even if Vodafone is losing money, and the agreement is so pro Telstra, things such as not competing on fixed wireless spectrum (even though it’s Vodafone’s spectrum Telstra will need to use!), no 5G for 6 months after a cell is added (Telstra could constantly upgrade a cell and give no access to Vodafone), no new infrastructure in Telstra’s remote areas, not allowed to compete on enterprise customers etc. But Optus + Vodafone is more a win for the public.

All three competing is better. TPG isn’t Vodafone. Vodafone was pure cellular. TPG is multi pronged fibre and cellular now.

We will see what the ACCC says. But it’s likely they’ll block it based on the report.

We need real competition! Not pseudo competition. The ACCC even said that this sharing agreement was not something they’ve found had been done in other countries. Even though Telstra/TPG tried to say it had been. It’s probably the funniest part to read in their report.

  • I switched to Vodafone boost and regretted. I have to stuck with Vodafone in another 9 months. It is ok around cities but really bad in remote areas. I went to Mt Bulla 2 months ago, no reception and i couldnt book a rideshare. Luckily my friend was with boost. .

  • If anyone you know has a Woolworths 10% discount from having a card or sim with them it can be stacked.

  • Can this satisfy a spend for Woolies rewards points offer?

    • I'd like to know too.

  • I'm currently with Kogan and I'm planning to switch to TPG. Would reception be essentially the same for all three networks (Vodafone, TPG, Kogan etc)?

    • +2

TPG owns Vodafone, Kogan uses Vodafone wholesale, which is completely the same as the normal Vodafone network, minus 5G in parts.

      • +1

        Thank you for clarifying

    • Just check the TPG offering carefully! They get you with some silly charges. E.g. Port out fees

Probably better to stay with Kogan, if you really want to move but stay on the VF network, ether go to Vodafone directly or another of their MVNOs.

Most of the VF MVNOs now have 5G "trial" access too. Just depends on the plan you choose.

  • Bought this SIIM pack and tried to port over from CatchConnect to Vodafone 3 weeks ago but kept failing. Reason given my number is not active with Catch, but Catch claims that they did not receive port requests. Already gotten TIO involved and Catch still continues to ignore me..

  • +1

Buy this and relax for 12 months, or continue to churn and chase cashrewards like a madman, that is the question. Lol

    • +1

If you’re a real dealer you can do better than this!

1 free month GOMO. Then 1 free month felix. Then whatever is next. There will be a deal sometime around then ;)

  • Really good will buy again soon.

  • does anyone know if you can use this starter pack to recharge an existing 150GB plan due to expire soon?

I logged into my Vodafone account and it has a recharge with voucher code, just not sure if this starter pack uses the same format voucher code to be accepted for existing accounts

  • +1

    Shittiest network in Australia.
Regret purchasing 1yr Vodafone for me and my mrs.
People here should really reconsider their decision to purchase.

    • +2

If you had a lot of issues you’re likely to have a refund via the TIO. Other people I know have been successful against Telstra, Vodafone and Optus.

      • Even for a yearly prepaid? I dont have the receipt anymore.

        • +1

Absolutely TIO rocks, if you say that the Vodafone network sucks and you have nothing but trouble, the TIO will help out.

I have gotten people out of contracts pretty easily, or gotten major refunds from the telcos.

The Telcos will treat people like garbage without the TIO.

          • @checkingthisout: thank you. That is gold info. Ever since we switched to vodafail, we have experienced dropouts, and loss of network for hours in ivanhoe vic.
Never had any issues with telstra, boost or even optus

    • +1

      Lol for the user name!!

      • someone reported my username as offensive.
I am very offended by that action.
That person should do better things like fighting with unknown people on youtube comments section.

  • +3

3 days in with Vodafone. I am porting out. It was a total waste of 1 dollar.

  • Is the $5 per day roam like home a thing with Vodafone if you are on prepaid?

  • East or West Boost is best.rest all crap network

  • Does Vodafone charge for call forwarding?

  • Is this only in select stores? Couldn't see any at my local Woolies.

    • It should be at every store. Ask at the front counter.

      • I tried another store and they had it.

  • +2

Have had this for about 7 months, works fine in Perth metro - not too many drop outs really if people were wondering and to negate a lot of the hate
