    The clearance has been going for a month or so. I've made a couple of orders, but it is slim pickings now.

    The $3 Beacon rear light is good, except the beam is tightly focussed. Will dazzle anyone who gets caught in the spot, and so weak in any other direction.
    I just added some translucent tape to diffuse the beam.

      Shogun ebike for ~$843 after promo. I'm a complete dunce at ebikes or bike components in general—any gurus care to provide their expert opinion on this?

        Essentially the same as my ALDI ebike that I got for $550, minus the front suspension forks.
        You're not going to get much chop for $1000, but I'd expect at this price point to get some disk breaks at least.

        I would not buy an ebike without disk brakes. It's a lot of extra weight over a normal bike, you need the stopping power. Even then, cable disk brakes are questionable and you'll need to have the cables maintained regularly as they will stretch, especially when new.

        Looks decent to me, I'd buy this if I was in the market for a cheap ebike. Much better than the recent (foldable) Aldi ebike - which was single speed and no power control. V-brakes are fine as far as I can tell; we have a heavy electric cargo bike with a huge wooden box in front of the rider (often full of groceries), v-brakes stop this beast with no issue at all.

        the 'up to' range - don't rely on it. Half it to be safe. 10.4Ah battery is on the low end of capacity, and once that goes, it will be hard to find a replacement for a no-name brand (I'm in the similar spot trying to find not-overpriced replacement battery with Velectrix ebikes at the moment).

        Often cheaper ebikes are using off-the-shelf parts that you can find replacement on aliexpress but buying batteries on aliexpress is a huge gamble. The capacity might not be right (outright scam), the fit might not be right, shipping a dangerous high-capacity lithium ion battery internationally is/can be/probably is expensive, it could be downright dangerous due to poor quality controls etc.

        As for the comments on disc brakes, never, ever get one with garbage mechanical disc brakes. stay with v brakes or go with hydraulic disc brakes (this bike is v brakes)

        also at around $850 budget you can also check out offerings by 99 bikes https://www.99bikes.com.au/electric?product_list_order=price who is having a bit of a sale on ebikes atm.

        Everything else looks okay for its price
