[Pre Order] Apple TV 4K (2022): Wi-Fi 64GB $219, Wi-Fi + Ethernet 128GB $249 Delivered @ Apple

16915

Apple has released plans to lower the price and upgrade the Apple TV 4K on November 4th, providing considerable value over the current model.
The 2022 Apple TV 4K with 128gb of storage and A15 processor retails for $249, compared to $279 for the 2021 model with 64gb of storage and A12 processor.
The 2022 Apple TV 4K with 64gb of storage and A15 processor, but without ethernet port, retails for $219, compared to $249 for the 2021 model with 32gb of storage and A12 processor with ethernet port included.

Yes, this will be the new RRP for these models, however as these models seemed to offer value over the current models in terms of both price and features, I thought it was worth posting. Certainly, do not buy the previous models at RRP if you're looking at buying an Apple TV 4K before November 4th.

Available from 4 November.

    So just RRP

    • +9

It's $30 cheaper with upgraded processor and storage compared to what it was yesterday.

      • +14

        Still RRP

        • +26

RRP is currently the prices outlined above for the previous models. The deal is the upcoming reduction in price and added features in comparison.

          • +41

@mr_me450: As someone who is in the market for an Apple TV, I appreciate the post. Thanks OP.

          • +5

@mr_me450: Nice one OP. Didn’t know there was a new model coming. The previous generation is also good. Auntie loves hers.

            • +4

@checkingthisout: Agreed. Thanks OP for taking the time to compare and point out a price reduction from Nov 4, plus the comparison of specs. new they had more storage, didnt realise cheaper price!

      • +3

This is just a dumb comparison, so it's like comparing the 2021 product vs the 2022 product and calling it a bargain.

        • +6

And this is just a dumb comment, so it's like comparing a baseless complaint vs an actual helpful comment and calling it worth reading.

  • +10

    RRP is not a deal.

    • +21

It is if the current models are still on sale with less features and for $30 more than the upcoming model.

    • +19

Did you upvote this Xbox RRP deal only a couple of hours ago?

      • +4

Exactly. The Xbox deal is the same price it has always been with the same features, this is a reduction in price and with an upgrade in features, so I don't see how they are comparable.

        • -4

What features compared to last model? It doesnt have ethernet port as you say in 64gb base model now. It still does 4k streaming. What feature was made possible with processor upgrade?

General availability shouldn't be an issue like Xbox that has different use.

Cheaper price is indicative of feature removal if anything.

          • +11

@ozdesi: Are you trying to argue that a more powerful processor and twice the storage does not constitute a feature upgrade? Or there is not value in those upgrades over the current models when the price is $30 less? Interesting take.

            • @mr_me450: Hardware upgrade does not necessarily make the usage of the streaming device better. If processor upgrade and double storage in a streaming device adds value then Apple has managed to market this very well with annual iterations. Since they got 4k streaming this is third iteration without impactful change enough to upgrade.
If anything fabricating only latest processors is cheaper overall than having a range of them. Intel has successfully relied on these savings for years that Apple is trying to do with no real feature upgrade apart from just hardware. Apple is known for unified experience as a brand.

        • +8

As the OP of that Xbox deal. I upvoted this RRP deal because it’s the next generation. + $30 less.

        • +2

It appears that you did not, in fact, upvote.

          • @buckethat: It also has nothing to do with Microsoft so 🤷‍♂️

  • +22

I mean i get what you are trying to do here with the price comparisons, but this really just comes off as an advertisement for the new Apple TV.

Btw thanks I didn't know they released a new one. I'll look into it.

    • +14

Wouldn't have posted if it was only a feature upgrade but the price drop makes it deal worthy for me. These new models are not on sale yet so if you were to go into a store looking for an Apple TV today you are by no means getting the best deal available considering the upcoming price drop and feature upgrades.

      • +5

Yes that is true, you are saving anyone who would be buying one very soon some money and in most cases price drops do not occur with new products so these posts won't pop up for new phones or new ipads.

  • +7

Good on OP for highlighting it but as it is RRP it belongs in forums and not as a deal.

    • +24

I thank OP for this - was looking seriously at getting 2021 model

Not everyone has the time or energy to live in the forums. This was a good post

  • What's the advantages using this compared to a smart tv (LG C1) + ps5 ?

    • Power consumption vs a PS5?

    • +1

      saving on electricity bill

    • And apparently the only way to get Atmos and lossless music through the music app on the LG C1

      • +2

My Yamaha receiver does lossless via Airplay? If you expect to hear the benefits of lossless presumably you have a receiver anyway, your TV speakers or sound bar will be weaker than the default 256kbps AAC encoding.

        • I was trying to listen to atmos music through a pioneer receiver. Airplay to the TV or Pioneer or the TV app itself all played as Dolby Surround according to the receiver. I don't know if the older model iphone 8+ is the problem with Airplay.

    • +8

Sony says the official power rating of a PlayStation 5 Disc Edition console is 350 Watts. PS5 would draw around 90 Watts for Netflix, and 50 Watts just when it's idle or navigating the home screen (1.5 Watts in stand by mode which is not what you're interested, but JFYI).

As per Apple's environmental report, Apple TV 4k draws about 3.52 Watts when streaming 4K HDR movies (0.47W when in sleep/standby mode).

    • +4

      It's a fair bit cheaper than a PS5 - plus it has a remote.

    • +9

PS5 can't do Atmos and Dolby Vision

    • +1

It depends on what you want to do.

Apple TV has a much better selection of apps compared to webOS (LG) and PS5.

The Plex client on Apple TV is far superior to webOS and PS5 too.

A better all-rounder device is an NVIDIA Shield however.

    • If you have other Apple products, there are other advantages. You can control playback with your AirPods and enter search text with your iPhone.
Smart TV software is usually not updated as often or as well as Apple TV software.

  • +8

RRP is not and has never been a deal

    • +16

It is a change in RRP which constitutes a dollar value saving and added value in terms of features.

You are every marketing person's dream

          • 13 supporters for the marketing dreamer ;)
  • +1

Should be a good upgrade. The previous Apple TV 4K could just barely play a lossless 4K blu ray rip, so this new one should be able to do it with some processing room to spare.

    • +1

Have you tried using Infuse to play those rips? Not had a single issue myself, with either of the previous 4K models.

      • Yup, I use infuse. I'll still appreciate the extra processing.

        • Ethernet or wireless?

          • @Orrelljet: Isn't ethernet and wired the same thing?

            • +1

@AustriaBargain: You are way too fast for me. Was editing it as you responded!

              • @Orrelljet: I use ethernet in any case.

                • @AustriaBargain: Hmmm…that's odd. The only time I've ever seen any issues it was a cheap Netgear switch that was the cause. Rebooted it and haven't seen a single issue since. I'm playing full-fat 4K rips i've made myself too.

                • @AustriaBargain: How come you use ethernet, using my crappy free ISP issued router, I get around 400Mbps over wifi, when doing speed test in infuse, I doubt it would be able to play a video at a bitrate higher then that.

                  • @Ozbfan: There's already a cable so I thought I may as well use it.

                    • @AustriaBargain: Ah I see, I just discovered recently if I run an ftp sever I get around 400Mbps over wifi prior to that was barely getting 100Mbps using samba over wifi.

    • I have the first gen (2017) Apple TV 4K and it plays UHD/4K Blu-ray rips no problem over ethernet. There must be something wrong with your network. Are you trying to play your rips over WiFi? Because some UHD rips will have scenes where the bitrate can jump to 150Mbps, which not even 10/100 ethernet can handle, so gigabit is a necessity.

  • +9

Thanks! Saved me some $ and not to mention the new features.

  • +11

    RRP is not a deal.

    • +6

RRP is currently the prices outlined above for the previous models. The deal is the upcoming reduction in price and added features in comparison.

      • +3

The deal is the upcoming reduction in price

Which is not a deal, since it is the regular price. Is this OzBargain or OzLatestModelRRP?

    • +1

Yes this is a deal and RRP can be deals. You yourself posted the PS5 at RRP as a deal. You're a hypocritical bandwagoner.

  • +8

    RRP is not a deal.

    • +6

As stated above, the current RRP for an Apple TV 4K is higher and includes less features, this represents as dollar value saving and feature upgrade from November 4.

  • +16

I don’t get the hate. Treat this as a PSA; saves people from buying the older model at worse value. Ignore if you wish.

    • +5

      Treat this as a PSA

Then post in the forums, it is not a bargain…

      • If it's not a bargain then how do you explain the cheaper price compared to the previous model? Is that just magic or something?

    • +2

It’s not hate, it’s pointing out that a new model at a lower RRP than the previous model is not a bargain. If we applied the same logic to other products (TVs, cars etc) if would be ridiculous.

Edit: it’s also worth noting that the price cut includes the removal of functionality, so is not comparing like for like at all.

      • +1

It does not include removal of functionality. At the very least, if you want the ethernet port and threading, then you would be paying the same price for the higher end model as the current lower end model, which includes both those things plus 4 times the storage and a 50% faster processor. If you already wanted the previous higher end model you're also saving $30.

  • +1

Good for the Apple TVs, too bad about the iPads!

    • New base iPad looks good, not so much for the new Pros.

      • +2

Looks good, sure, but the price bump is pretty rough.

    • I saw the announce for the ipads and went to pre order a new pro. The max spec pro is $4100 lol. Thats more than a mac book pro. Its also about the same as a 4090 and 13900k will cost which im buying instead now. Which i considerer to be hugely overpriced also

  • Just to save yourself a bit of blow back, which personally I think isn't warranted, I would put this up as a forum post in the future. Thanks for the heads up.

  • +9

    Zero savings = Zero bargain.

    • +6

As stated above, the saving is at least $30, plus additional features over what the Apple TV 4K is currently available for.

      • +6

the saving is at least $30

No it's not, $219 is the normal price for this particular model.

        • +5

Exactly, a saving of $30 over the current RRP for a base model Apple TV 4K.

          • +6

@mr_me450: That is a different device model you are comparing it too…

            RRP is not a bargain.

            • +5

@jv: You keep repeating that with no acknowledgement of the reality of a buyer looking to purchase an Apple TV 4K. If you buy today or up to November 4 in stores you will spend $30 more for a less powerful device with less storage, if you view this deal and wait or pre-order the new model you save money and get a better device. The deal holds value for anyone looking to purchase an Apple TV 4K over the next fortnight.

              • +5

                @mr_me450:

                You keep repeating that

                Because it's true.

                • +3

@jv: As are my points above. Plenty of people seem to recognise the value of posting the deal which is confirmation it was worth posting in the eyes of the community.

                  • +3

                    @mr_me450:

the value of posting the deal

It's not a 'deal' though. It is the normal price.

                    • @jv: The deal is in the eye of the bargain hunter. To my eye, saving $30 when deciding between models definitely constitutes a 'deal'.

            • +1

              @jv: to

    • +3

go and neg the xbox deal. I'll wait here til you do. :)

  • +13

Apple haters out in full force today hahaha
Plenty of votes on the Xbox/PS5 deals at RRP lol

    • Aren't xbox/ps5's hard to find?

      • +1

I hear they're getting easier to find but being hard to find still doesn't make them a deal.

At least this is a good heads up that a newer model is on the way with a price drop compared with the current model.

  • +5

Thanks for reminding that the new lineup has been released last night.

    • +3

The deal refers to the dollar value savings and added features over the current RRP for an Apple TV 4K.

    • Good to have an OzBargain-feeded price baseline + discussion
