  • Wow they have flights from sydney?

    • Beginning 23/12 (and subject to regulatory approval I would say).

    Don’t ask me what T’way is… Ask the M'dalorian

  • T'Way is a Korean LCC. I can't find the $380 price until the beginning of February, but $1760 for an angled flatbed in business is too much. We are travelling to Seoul admittedly with a flight change in Business on Cathay with a real flat bed and bedding for similar money in June.

    • +2

but $1760 for an angled flatbed in business is too much.

I think it's a good deal actually. A proper flat bed is going to cost you nearly twice that. I've flown the same seats on AirAsia both to KL and onwards to London when flown there and found them to be great. I had plenty of sleep on the numerous times I flew on it.

      • I think it's a good deal actually.

I often wonder why there isn't a budget flatbed option on long haul planes, say like a bunk you get on a sleeper train/buses. Space-wise you're only taking up 3 seats for 3 bunks, maybe 4 if you add a bit of elbow room, so you could charge 1.5x the economy fare and profit. I'd happily pay 50% more for this arrangement.
You also get the added benefit of sleeping passengers are less likely to annoy the flight crew, so it's win-win

Because you are required to be in a sitting position with a seat belt on for takeoff and landing

Ah the old bureaucracy gets in the way again… Maybe if there weren't so many rules we could have better things?

            • +2

@1st-Amendment: You mean like more injuries and deaths?

I'd love to see your data on the difference that lying down or sitting up makes in a plane crash…

  • +3

Seems like all the 'event fares' are sold out

  • +5

    Do you know T'Way?

    • +4

T'San Jose? These pilots probably don't.

      • +1

They've been away so long, t'may go wrong and lose t'way

        • Dreams turn into dust
          And blow away
          And there you are
          Without a friend
You pack your bag (coz it's free)
          And fly away

  • Can you tell me how to get that price? I tried searching in Jan, didn't get that price.

  • Tempted just to get my hands on some Esse

  • This is going to be interesting, T'Ways first true long-haul service on their brand new A330-323s. Going to be interesting seeing what they can offer on these services.

    • Correct me if im wrong but arent these ex Air Asia A330?

      • Yes these are ex AA A330s

        • +3

          AK actually :)

          • +1

@willyroo: Well AK is for the Malaysian branch which composes of the narrowbody fleet and 12 A330s.

I traced back the MSN to it being under Thai Air Asia X not it’s Malaysian counterpart.

            So D7/XAX

      • Yep, sold off by AA during covid. Kept the angled business class seats too which I've flown on many times over the years and enjoyed.

        • Where they owned by AA or Leased?

  • Anyway else finding it impossible to switch the website to English? Even when I select "Australia" and "English" and click "ok". it still displays in Korean. Both in Chrome and Safari

    • I had this issue as well but when I did my search through the pop-up after clicking “Click to reservation” button on the promo page, it kept everything in English.

  • +1

Not a bad price over Christmas ($730 one way) considering that booking anywhere overseas is easily in the thousands at the moment.
Looks like the $380 fares are now only available for travel in March 2023

Edit: I take that back, they show their prices excluding taxes, isn't that illegal?

    • +6

      That's T'way it is…

    • Yeah i think promo fares are all gone, i booked on Monday for $380 including taxes one way Sydney to Seoul for Xmas eve, Xmas day was even cheaper.

I've noticed both T'way and Bamboo Airways are showing prices excluding taxes on their Australian sites (which i think is illegal)

    This is the T’way.

  • +1

Good to see people taking a one way trip.

Enjoy some kimchi on your way out folks

    • +1

If only we could get the PostCode gang banger f-wits to take a one way flight. Korean police would fix em up in about 3 seconds

  • +2

I am a Korean and had several opportunities to take T'way International flights. They will proceed with the introduction of the A330 this year, so overall condition of aircraft itself will be fine. There has been no major accident so far, but the legroom itself and customer service will be just about a common LCC. At least there will be fewer cancellations than Jetstar. If you want to try something different, I recommend octopus porridge or tteokbokki as an in-flight meal.

    • +4

tteokbokki is delicious but I cant do octopus anything since watching 'My Octopus Teacher'

      • +1

Absolutely loved that documentary. I was surprised at what an incredibly intelligent animal they are and at the bond this octopus formed with a human.

    • +1

There has been no major accident so far, but the legroom itself and customer service will be just about a common LCC.

Even smaller than Jetstar's B787's. They are ex-Air Asia planes which are cramped in economy. Should hopefully be a cheap flight in their business class though.

      • Yes, If it’s same seat arrangement with other asian lines which is currently active by themselves, it’ll be 81cm. Sorry for tall mates.

    Any deals for Pyongyang?

I'm assuming one way would be the only option.

    • +1

I would recommend the train from Beijing. Quite the ride if you have a spare 24 hours.

    • +1

€‎775 for a round trip only catch is you have to make it to Beijing first.

Well worth it, if you don't mind supporting/giving money to an oppressive regime.

      • I was there for my research paper. Sometimes you have no choice if you want the learn more :(

        • Well I went there for personal research/curiosity. Was there for victory day and the mass games (the latter was one of the best experiences of my life, the choreography was just amazing at a hugely impressive scale of tens of thousands of people).

  • I live in Seoul and work with a lot of the big airlines as a part of my job. Qantas and Jetstar will have more options starting soon but would also recommend Cathay Pacific as they ramp up their Australia bound schedule. You can get some great deals from $1200 return.

    • +1

Do you know when abouts these options might start opening?

      • December for most but slowly getting better in January.

  • I had booked a couple of flights with them just before covid started. From memory the refund process was pretty painless (a lot less so then Qantas) for what that's worth.

  • Worst website ever.

at that price, you really have to wonder what the ' is replacing between the T and way

    • +1

      that's so cheap

    • +3

Amazing price for a direct flight with 30kg luggage

      • +1

Scoot has similar price, until you add on luggage, meals,… & non direct.
But a better range of dates & departure locations.

    • +1

So cold❄ at that time! Seoul min ave below 0C. Dealbot has previously posted how cold it gets.

Love SK, but flew out when it was 0C & dropping. Had great down jacket, just was too cold too long.

      • +2

I was there in Jan once… I think it's the windchill that gets you… you'll definitely need those 30kg

      • +2

I was in Seoul over Christmas a few years back and saw some police cadets playing soccer in -10 or so.
Apparently to show someone (their instructor?) how tough they were. It was so freaking cold I was having trouble with the coldness of the footpath pushing cold up through my Aussie shoes and into my bones.

        • +2

There's only so long I can warm myself in a Jimjilbang 🛁

          • @INFIDEL: Would love to be at a Jjimjilbang right now with this chilly Sydney weather!!

      • +1

One advantage - the dust hazard is less in Winter.

    • Same price to return or?

      • -1

Just did a search for flights returning from Seoul to Sydney, and there seems to be some flights available in March for similar discounted prices :)

        • +2

Yeah I had a browse and looks like same price return but all sold out til March

    • +1

One way to Seoul. How easy to get permanent residency there?

      • Virtually impossible unless you invest $US500k or marry a citizen.

They will extend your long term visa and Alien Resident Card (ARC) up to 4yrs 10mths but you need to stay five years before you can apply for permanent residence.

        • Oh okay. Thanks for the info. I will check with my wife if she lets me marry a Korean citizen girl.

    • meal and water included at that price? what about price for back

      • Similar prices appear for flights back to Sydney during March :)

    • Includes FREE in-flight meals

Is there a link to the menu ?

    • You can take the bus to Korea now? Times have changed

    • +1

The cheapest Qantas Return flights are $950 AUD, now the on average the return fares - the cheapest I can find is around 870,000 KRW or $950 AUD.

I'd check the dates if you are considering choosing this route as QF will ultimately provide a better international experience and get you some points, I'd rather go with QF than with T'way.

However, in 50% of the cases T'way will be cheaper, just search ;)

      • +1

Definitely agree, there are many great options at the moment - definitely worth searching around. Jetstar and Qantas have both recently started their Sydney - Seoul routes, so a great time to be travelling again :)

        • +2

Jetstar is hovering at the lowest - around $890 return | Plus in the baggage ect and T'Way or QF would be a better choice.

And just in general I'd be hesitant around OTP numbers with T'Way, as they will only have 3 A333s in their fleet (1 in prep still) so if 1 goes AOG or a prolonged delay affects it - expect long delays at both ports.
