I've enjoyed it in that time and didn't think it was a waste of money. Even better for this price.

inb4 theyre $15 here and there. these are far superior if using in anything over 5km/h winds

    • Higher Flame output, usually.

    • Most of cheap portable gas stoves have windshield.. at least mine does from Anaconda.

  • Look through the other items as a lot of that brand are reduced. Some interesting stuff.

    • Mostly goods from Japan.

waiting for another deal for the no smoke one

  • Where make dis

  • +1

    inb4 untrustworthy seller

    • Can confirm it was from 'Thunder Japan' and 'Fulfilled by Amazon' before it went Out of Stock.

    • +2

No more Thunder Japan stock (via Amazon), and yes wouldn't order now from current seller, shipped and sold by "Fully&trusty llc" - just launched.

      • +1

now is "Japan First Market " the reviews look ok

        • Yep just saw that also. It's fulfilled by Amazon so should be right.

How many BTU is this cooktop?
Answer:As it is 2.9 kw, it should be converted to 9895 BTU.
By Tom and Thomas Trading SELLER on 8 July 2022

Needs to be 15-18,000 BTU for Uncle Roger to be happy. :)

      • I found an LPG Single burner unit at Freddys for $89.50

      • Yep thats 'the one' to get imho. Have set up a camels price drop for that one

    • How many BTU do I need to actually char my kway teow, coz my built in gas top doesn't cut it…

      • I have a 3.8kW burner, my wife does CKT on it just fine, though I would have preferred it to be a little more charred. I think 3.8kW translate to about 13000BTU, so @Bewareofthedog is probably right.

        • Was having a read, apparently real wok frying is done on 100k + BTUs so that explains it. I can't even find the rating for my gas top so no idea what I've been working with.

There’s an lpg burner called a Rambo, by auscrown that does the job. Attached to a bbq lpg tank. Anything similar with a high pressure regulator attached should yield similar results. The thing sounds like a jet taking off.. only for outdoor use. Also it will burn stuff in a few seconds if you’re not organized and if you leave an empty wok on it too long it’ll start to glow red.. so you have to have all your ingredients prepped and be ready to go. Makes you appreciate the skill/speed of pro Chinese chefs.

        • I looked at those as well, but a bit beyond my budget. A few Asian people, have told me @ 15-18k BTU is the minimum at home. I have a post on here with heaps of suggestions.

          • @BewareOfThe Dog: Keep in mind most people in China live in apartments and have standard stoves like people here. You might not get that Smokey wok hay but you can make good decent authentic home stir fry without a high btu stove as long as your technique is good. Check out this vid: https://youtu.be/WujehK7kYLM

The whole channel is worth saving for good authentic Chinese recipes with pretty in depth explanations about technique.

The iwatanis are much better than bunnings and similar products

Iwatani 35FW had a better output than my largest hob Ikea cooktop

    • Nice.. how was the 35fw with the knob turned down to the lower setting? Don’t necessarily want it on beast mode all the time!

      • +1

I think the thing with the Itawanis is that they are made to much better tolerances and from better materials generally. So that also means a decent quality range of control with the heat. The end of this this Youtube shows some fine control with the heat here: https://youtu.be/CeAntSCcgyE?t=339
Definitely going to get the 35FW when its on spesh

        • +1

It adjusted the heat just as well as a normal gas heating hob.

Other than engineering and tolerances, I believe that35fw had a heatsink that ran alongside the gas canister to heat it up.
Sounds crazy but butane cans get really cold as they release gas and with it, power drops.

I used it like a 'dirty kitchen' outside.
Like I said it was better than the Ikea hob.

          • +1

@fusion17: Yes exactly correct. Butane cans get icy cold when it runs and eventually freeze up inside. Usually there is a little gas left in the can that is almost unusable but this model has a heating panel that fixes that

        • Nice good to hear.. when these go on sale I’ll probs pull the trigger and replace our old bunnings gasmate cheapie.

        • +1

          $146 at the mo.

  • arent these dangerous?

I've been using my rice cooker as hotpot and its working well

    • -1

You’re rice cooker would be as dangerous

      • Why?

      • It's common sense that rice cookers work using electricity and don't have a naked flame which is much more dangerous.
