  • Solid price gonna be a big deal.
Still waiting for my cashback from last deal( they approved it)

  • T&Cs page is broken but it seems there are exclusions this time. E.g. Sony A7s III and DJI products like Mini 3 Pro and DJI accessories.

  • Good price.

    XT5 is at the corner.

Never go full retard but you did

        • +12

Don't talk about things you don't understand

        • +4

Just move along. You can justify your iPhone 14 around the water cooler tomorrow.

    • +8

I own such a iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I can tell you, it definitely does not make any photos like this. The iPhone takes only good photos in specific circumstances, that's it. The Sony is a versatile tool for almost every situation you can imagine.

    • +1

      Firstly,

$2500 iPhone Max 14 Pro takes similar level quality photos.
no it does not, phones will never beat a dedicated camera.

Secondly, you're clearly not the target market for this. This is marketed at serious hobbyists and professionals, a lot of whom use them as a means to earn a living. Stick any half-decent lens on it, hell any lens. It'll blow your phone away at everything

        • +1

          even better quality photos

Keep dreaming haha, the iphone 14 pro could be beaten by a mid-range camera in the right hands.

The low-light performance alone is enough to warrant getting it. So are the video capabilities, so is the resolution, so is the sheer variety of high quality lenses it opens up.

But why are you buying a $2500 phone when you can use a $200-300 one?

          • +2

@Omk4r123: Never engage with a troll. Internet 101

        • +1

a camery can surely bring you from A to B but why ppl buy GTR or Ferrari ?

        • The iPhone 14 Pro does have an advantage over ILC’s in the fact it renders all details as smooth as a water color paintings. So really you are getting something that’s like a ‘camera’ and water color painting simulator in one. Who needs the actual detail and great DR of an ILC right!

    • +8

Isn't the Gameboy camera superior to both as it has Tetris?

      • +1

        yes.

      • -4

No. Because it doesn’t have the iPhones Retina display camera.

      • +1

Nah, why waste money on a Gameboy when you can just cut a pin hole in a card board box and get some $2 photo paper.

    • ….I mean a $2500 iPhone Max 14 Pro takes similar level quality photos.

      Look who watched a vijayo.

    • Imagine taking wedding photos with an iPhone hahaha…

    • +5

      Everyone taking the bait.

Camera nerds are the best. I even felt the eye twitches from the commentators above.

        • +3

Nah you got triggered. That's why you edited your comment.

          • @plmko: I made it more raunchy. For more eye twitches. :-) Comment is on 25 negs, let’s get it to 100.

            • @dreamscene: same can be said for those HD800s, why waste 800$ or 1800$ on those when my 3$ buds can make sounds too.

    • When iPhone has Full Frame camera sensor, then you may ask the same question again.

      • It was never about the sensor it's always about the lens which is physics can not be shrinked down

      • -1

iPhone has retina camera technology, 10 years more advanced then any camera, it’s Apple tech.

        • you mean retina display?

    • You clearly don't understand photography. Why not just move on?

Would you be happy if you're wedding photographer showed up with an iPhone?

    • I've got a prototype iPhone 15 Pro Mega and it has a decent camera for happy snaps but doesn't hold a candle to my DSLR

    • Well you failed to understand why a dedicated camera industry exists.

It's not as though there are thousands of people around the world spending thousands to tens of thousands of dollars on dedicated gear because they are unaware of phones.

Using your logic there's no need for a sound bar, just listen to the internal speakers.
Actually your phone plays media, you don't even need a tv.

    • Man you dumb

    • Why is there always one man

    • Try shooting an airshow, or motor sports, or birds or other small, speedy wildlife with your phone. Then there's the versatility of the lenses and the looks they give you - wide angles for landscapes give a completely different look. The truth is if you don't want to shoot pictures a phone isn't suited to taking, don't understand or do not care about the differences in quality, and don't want to learn, the camera is an absolute waste for you. Save your money. Other people enjoy the hobby though qnd that is why you've been down-voted. A phone doesn't do everything a full frame MILC can.

  • How come Sony sells its cameras in Australia but not its phones?

    • Marketing absent and warranty service does not exist.

    • Sony did have official distribution for their phones in Australia up till about 2 years ago.

They pulled out of the phone market in Australia, likely because of lack of sales. I would consider their Xperia1 series for my next phone.

    • -5

      iPhones killed it.

  • thanks, bought a few for the kids xmas stockings. cheers OP

  • Could we price match at sony?

    • You can that's what I did last time, make sure cash reward it or shop back!!!!!!

      • Seems like this would get you 5% cashback vs the 3% you could save with eBay gift cards? Any other promo I'm missing?

  • do we know the price for A7 V?

    • A7RV is $5899

    • I checked. It's not listed in their eBay store unfortuatenly.

  • So tempted to get it at this price, unfortunately haven't got the clearance yet from the wife

  • Does Sony's cashback offer apply to this?

    • +3

      Hi me, no it doesn't.

    • +2

Doesn't look like it's included in the cash back offer.

But what's interesting is that the Sony A7R IV has the cash back offer, on eBay with the coupon code it's $3,999.20, if we can stack it with the cash back offer ($500), the total price would be $3,499.20.

  • Does anyone know if you can pricematch this @ sony?

also does anyone know how long it will stay in the card?

First time trying the pricematch storing in cart trick i've been seeing around in ozbargin, since i wanna see the prices around blackfriday / christmas / boxing day.

    • +1

I have price matched DigiDirect eBay deals with Sony twice before. I left one item in my cart for just over a month and was still able to checkout.

      • sweet as, thank you for the reply and help!

      • How do you go about price matching it with Sony though? The price reflected on the page is $3,699, do they take into consideration the discount from using the code?

        • +1

From memory you just go to the Sony product page, click "Request Price Match" and put in the eBay link & price after the discount code. A number of people seemed to have success with this previous eBay deal.

          • @Random Emu: Thanks will try that, thought the final price had to be reflected on the page prior to any code use. Guess it might be a bit different.

  • Am I insane to be considering this as a "first camera"? How much would a decent lens (for landscape photography) run me?

Please feel free to direct me to thread(s) where other noobs have already asked these exact questions :^)

    • If your thing is landscape, may I recommend full frame like Nikon DSLR?

      • +6

Unless you're trying to extend the life of your existing lens collection, a DSLR is not a wise purchase at this point.

    • Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G Lens for 1k-1.2k on special with promos stacked.

      Only lens you'll need

    • +1

pair a74 with tamron 28-200 you'll be good

    • I think it will come down to 1280$ tomorrow. Great lens for A7iv
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324115222593

    • If you have a genuine interest in photography, then no. Coming from a Nikon P900, an a7R III was my first decent camera.

However, you should understand that if you want to get the most out of a camera like this, you need to be interested in the post-processing side of it.
This isn't something which should put you off. Start with simple edits (exposure balance, etc.), play around with the other adjustments and work your way up.

If you're not going to put the time into post processing, you'll still have an excellent JPEG camera but your money would probably be better put into something else.

      • Out of interest, would that be something like an A7C or a smaller form factor?

    • Yes this is probably overkill for a first camera especially for landscape. If however money is no object and you'll take advantage of the improve af, vastly superior video codecs and DR then this is worth it (compared to A7iii)

If you're primarily shooting landscape save some money on the body and spend more on a good lens. The A7iii is perfect and is also eligible for cashback.

For lenses the Sigma 16-28 2.8 is a good all rounder, spend a bit more and the 16-35 GM is best in class and also fairly well priced on sale around 1.8-1.9k.

    • if anything i have learned in my past from my hobby, if you can get the right gear for you needs in first try, it is actually the best option.
i learned it from PC upgrading, 3d printer building, and cameras.

but it is very hard to know what you will need without even having the very first step into the hobby, so do your home work first (such as looking up is a a7iii enough for beginner in 2022 this kinda video).

but the rule of thumb, if you get it from a very decent deal (which this one is), there is nothing to lose, you can just sell it easily without losing much money if at all, or even make some.

    • You could consider a second hand Nikon D810, e.g. $1299 at Teds with warranty. There is a good choice of landscape lenses depending on what you are looking to achieve. Of course DSLRs are on the decline, but in some cases the value for money is still compelling.

    • This is a great camera. I went through two second hand mirrorless Sony's before getting this one. Was keen to go secondhand to make sure it was something I was going to like and keep it up.
So, if cautious go second hand for the first one or two cameras.

There is a great Sony 20mm lens good for landscape, costs another $1,300.

      • +1

If you get a good deal for new, when multiple discounts align (eBay promo, price match, factory cash back, CR or SB cash back), you can get your money back when selling to move to the next gear. I have been able to experiment with (new) various brands, systems and models by recycling my funds this way. They are easier to sell when still under factory warranty as buyers like peace of mind. If I can’t wait for factory promos or items that don’t get discounts often, or top end gears that have high depreciation rate, then I’d look at good used items on eBay, again usually when there are eBay discount codes that work on private sellers.

        • This is what I do too.

    • Imo yes and I'll tell you why - lenses on this are very expensive (FE format), so it's unforgiving for you to "try" stuff.

A second hand dslr, shopping for a price point like sub 2k, sub 1.5k, heck 1k plus some fun lenses. would be a good way to go.

The other reason for this? If you want to take it on more professionally, now you have a good quality backup camera, because you always need a backup if someone is going to be depending on you.

  • Stock no mo! Great price regardless. Sony never honoured my cashback so I ended up paying $3750

  • Bollocks, OOS before I could price match.

  • They've added more stock last night, but current sold out again.

    Quite tempting.

  • awaiting sony 10% cashback !
