[Pre Order] PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Console $649 @ Harvey Norman

1210

Hey guys! (First time posting so please be kind!)

Harvey Norman online is offering pre orders for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Pre orders are for late November 2022. I couldn't see any previous posts listing these latest pre order offers. Good to see a retailer getting the SKUs without a bundled game again.

Find it funny how they've taken orders several times in the past month but the people who bought this deal for stock expected in late Oct are still waiting / haven't got any info from HN.

    • +1

You still waiting for an order you placed with them from October? :(

      • +8

It was a backorder with stock expected to arrive late October. I'm cool with waiting another week but it'd be nice not being in the dark wrt their stock, especially when they've taken more orders twice now since then lol.

      • +5

Need to swap the prices over.

    • +10

It's a scam, my Aug "pre-order" has never shipped.

      • +3

Same (12 Aug "pre-order"). Was told that it was backordered and to wait 10-12 weeks. Refunded yesterday, as they don't seem to be able to tell what position you are in the hypothetical queue. Wouldn't surprise me if stock is getting diverted.

        • +4

Think of all the dollars they have taken in pre orders and the interest they get in their bank account with all that money sitting there. Then string the poor customer along as long as possible.
Great revenue maker with little risk or cost to HN.

          • +1

@Czar Chasm: This seems a bit far fetched but i honestly like this theory lol

            • +3

@LuslecGrace: Not far fetched, I worked in a business that limited the amount of payments out to other businesses, because they tied the cash up in high interest short term bonds. There was only x$ allowed to be paid each week. It was a fight to get my suppliers paid when they were due money. I hated it.

              • +1

@Czar Chasm: Oh thats interesting. Yeah, we can never know what corporations and businesses do behind the backs of consumers.

    • +1

Are we expecting Jerry to have good customer service.

  • -2

Don’t understand why stores didn’t do this in the first place

    • +8

I don't understand what you mean? They did, and still do. They were allocated a number of stock, so they've put out pre-orders for that allocation. They can't sell stock they haven't been allocated. Each time they get a new allocation, they put out pre-orders.

    • +4

Lol. Now I know why 87 percent.

    • See my comment above

  • +7

$150 mark-up for the "privilege" of owning/using physical copies of games you've paid money for is deranged.

It's actually insane the absolute BS consumers let these twerps get away with.

    • +55

What's deranged is using a high capacity disc as a 75mb authenticity key for a 150gb download.

      • +2

        bring back floppy disks

      • that used up almost 90% of my bandwidth quota.

        • +3

you actually have a datacap at this day and age ? thats insane !!

      • Is this something that’s happened where a base game is not playable without a download? Because that would be some bs not being able to play the game in 20 years time or whatever when the data is no longer hosted. Sucks for archivists.

        • +1

Cannot speak specifically for other games but this mostly a direct reference to the new CoD Modern Warfare. It is a fairly common occurrence one such reason it was supposedly happening with switch cartridges was that smaller storage cartridges were cheaper, so small cartridge, large day 0 update. I cannot speak to what the actual 'base' games on the discs/cartridges on, but in most cases it would probably be a buggier version of the game.

        • +1

I also imagine this will 'allow' discs to be produced a lot sooner considering it's basically a licence on a disc.

Which I assume is cheaper, but I haven't delved into it really.

      • +3

@BillyZ93 It is poor form, but for me if digital copies are going to be $20+ compared to the physical disc. I will purchase the physical disc every time

    • +21

Depends how you think about it but I’ve always felt that the disc version is the normal price with the the digital being subsidised to make it more attractive (which they’ll easily earn back by locking you into the digital store)
As opposed to your viewpoint where the digital is the normal and the disc version price is disproportionately increased.
I guess both viewpoints are two sides of the same coin.

    • +28

Unfortunately it's worth it, the PSN is highway robbery with A$125 vs A$79 for physical on launch weeks.

      • +4

Yup you instantly lose money when purchasing the digital only version. And contribute to the death of real ownership and affordable prices

    • -3

So is commenting on deals you aren't interested in, but here we are…

    • +6

      @sob baget

Such a short term view point.

Physical games are typically cheaper vs their digital option, you have the option of multiple different vendors to buy from, then you have the used market with again multiple vendors and options to purchase, then you own physical items you can resell whenever you want.

I could buy a used game for $20-$40, play it, then resell it after im done for the same price i paid. A lot of times you can re-sell at a higher price than what you paid so you're essentially getting all you're games for nothing or even making money on.

      • +1

Exactly, hence why i never even considered buying a digital version of PS5 and I'm still quite happy that i got a disc version Fifa2023 bundle for $850 about a month ago or so and brought it home with me the same day, no pre-order and then bite my nails hoping it will turn up when promised.

    • Once you can hack the console, it won't really matter if you have a disc drive or not. I haven't inserted a disc on my OG PS4 in years

      • +1

How are you going to back up your physical copies without a disc drive?

        • +3

i don't have a modded ps4 but if its anything like a modded ps3 then he doesn't need a 'physical' copy, can just download the 'image' file and run it off that

  • +2

Fix the post. Digital is 649 and disc is 799

    • Fixed! Thanks :)

  • Your title is mixed up.

    • Sorry about that. I fixed it! :)

  • +13

Disc PS5 at $649 would be an actual bargain for a change

    • +1

I will grab it without thinking if $649 for Disc version. lol

    • Not sure how long we gonna wait for that. Maybe when PS6 is announced….

Sony is riding this covid demand as excuse

  • Didn’t the disc version use to be more expensive than the digital one?

    Edit: nvm, fixed.

  • +19

    No Harvey no

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Harvey

    • +1

      Harvey Noooo way.

  • +3

avoid like the plague unless you want your console by the time the PS6 is released.

    • +2

Ps6 will be available 2 years after it’s announced, and then another few years after due to supply shortages. You will have so much time haha.

      • +1

By the time PS6 comes out maybe mobile tech will have caught up and we will be seeing awesome performance in VR headsets??

I am looking forwards. Which is why I won't even consider buying any game console right now.
I haven't tried VR yet but playing games on a screen just seems so 2010?
Looking forward to what the Quest 3 has to offer with Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. Maybe the Quest 4 or 5 will get pretty close to PS5 from a VR perspective??
Wireless sync with a PC really kills the value because the PC will cost more than the headset so I am looking forward to these upcoming all-in-one headsets.

Edit: Also again I completely forgot that PSVR existed. Not too sure on the value proposition of that but the graphics I saw were pretty impressive. Also it's a wired VR experience right?

        • VR is awesome, but so limited. Will be a long long time before VR becomes properly cool. That’s when modern warfare would pick it up. Maybe a decade from now haha. You will be waiting a long time, when you could be playing games!

          • @onlinepred: "You will be waiting a long time, when you could be playing games!"

Yeh honestly I never got into it as a hobby. But because of that I sometimes do think that way that I have been missing out and have deep ragget.
You could say I am also kind of convincing myself that abstaining from gaming will add to the experience once I jump in with VR.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: I was raised on gaming, don't do it much these days, couple of hours a week. Really enjoy playing with friends/family/colleagues. I only play coop games these days.

              • @onlinepred: Yeah I was surrounded by it as well. But for some reason made the decision that I would rather do other things. Nowadays though sometimes I ragget that decision. 😥

                • @harshbdmmaster718: Nothing to raget. If you have the money, just grab a console and give it a go. If you don't like it sell it. Or if you feel that you have no desire, then don't. VR won't suddenly make you like gaming or anything.

  • +1

If you have 28 degrees credit card, check your spam folder for $50 GC after $250 spend at HN.

    • How soon afterwards did you get it?

      • +1

I haven't done it, I saw this and just remembered the email I got a few weeks ago.

  • Has Sony released the new hardware revision yet? Or is this still the original?

    • -1

Are you talking about the one in this deal??

No chance it has updated hardware. And from what I heard the updated version is coming with a price hike. (so you will know it's the updated one)

    • This is likely the 1200 series as they have started appearing in Australia since September.

Ships with firmware 5.50 if youre interested

      • So this deal is for the updated version??

And it's on sale already? wow.

        • +1

Its not so much an "updated version" like a new slim model or anything.

The 1200 series is just a minor hardware revision, with a newer 6nm chip, weighing slightly less.

The same way that the 1100 series was a minor update to the original 1000 series

          • @TimmyShooterB: Yeah honestly I looked it up quickly before typing my previous comment and the only spec changes were improved power consumption.
But it did also say most of the internal hardware parts had been shrunk down in size and the entire console was a lot lighter, so technically it's updated hardware. So I can't say it's the same thing just with lower power consumption.

  • +4

Thank you for posting on OzPreOrders.

  • +1

Harvey norman really that unreliable? Wqs about 2 seconds qway from ordering!

  • +2

HN isn't reliable. I ordered an XSX for a friend last year and went to change the pick up person because of other commitments. On the day of release, they cancel the order because of "security reasons". Ended up getting my friend to go to the store and "rebuy" the order that was canceled.

  • +1

for ever on preorder when PS6 comes out ps5 will still be on preorder :D

  • +8

Harvey Norman online is the worst and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. No communication, shipping takes weeks. save your self for a more reliable company

  • +8

    Ewww discless version
    Ewww Harvey Norman

      Hardly Normal

      Ewww Ewww Ewww

Try your local JB-HiFi. I walked and bought one for this price last month.

  • +4

Target has stock of the PS5 Disc Horizon bundle right now: https://www.target.com.au/p/playstation-reg-5-console-horizo…

I ordered at like 10am so stock has been available all day, C&C only with 3-7 business day ship to store wait time

    • +2

Downside is that you’re effectively paying $95 for a digital copy of Horizon Forbidden West

      • +2

Yeah, not ideal and definitely not a deal but I'll play Horizon eventually and wanted a PS5 in time for GOW launch

        • -1

          Another case of FOMO.

          • @Griffindinho: Which in this case is quite valid. They aren't exactly easy machines to acquire at RRP.

            • @illogicalerror: Yes which exacerbates the FOMO

              • @Griffindinho: Ah, sweet sweet irony. :D

                • @illogicalerror: I mean the disc console may be worth it, digital one is hard to justify given the RRP of digital games on the PSN store

                  • @Griffindinho: I dunno mate. I can't buy into any of it. It all seems disproportionately expensive for what it is at the moment. Just going to sit on my PS4 until the hullabaloo dies off. Already they released an improved version.
                    No rush no fuss.

    • Understand but I don't want the game just the console less than $700 will jump on it

Right now it's not worth it if you don't want the game

  • Guess EB Games should have some soon?

  • Who?

  • The HZD bundles have been in stock for weeks on Amazon if you really want a Ps5.

    • Not at RRP. Those have been sold for quite some time. Only 3rd party sellers remain.

      • -1

Nope. Was in stock for weeks sold by amazon as recently as yesterday, has sold out now though.

        • Been sold out for a lot longer than yesterday.

  • +1

Harvey Normans estimated delivery dates are like my dad. He said he was coming back after going out to get groceries. That was 12 years ago, haven't seen him since.

    • Maybe he was hit….by a bus / a smooth criminal Harvey Norman ?

  • +2

its the digital version don't waste your money get the disc verision.

  • I placed an order on the Target website for a disc ps5 console on the 21st October expecting to get an email back saying that the item was out of stock.
10 days later I was able to go pick my new ps5 up. Amazed it was so straight forward after reading all of these posts…

  • COD MW2 is like 100$ for digital and 70$ on Facebook which you can play and sell easily for 60-70$. Thats one game cost is 100$ vs 10-5$. Over the lifetime cost of games on digital will be in thousands meanwhile person with disc might be playing for free by buying and selling at same price. You might say its like you own them but you can do same again with disc but tbh its very rear to reply a game when there are so many releasing. So don't buy digital if you wants to play latest games. However there are hundreds of games on PS PLUS EXTRA to play.

  • Ah man. I jumped on this while i was on a short break this morning. Delayed and backorder notice email not long after. I am hoping that they have secured a large quantity to cover all the current orders? I did read somewhere that production was ramping up now. Im not feeling very hopeful…

  • Offers ended now

  • Just an update: i emailed HN about the order. They assure me the stock is placed on backorder and the delay is an automatic response because its not in stock currently. The delay is referring to the stock arriving late november. Fingers crossed anyway.

    • I just got an email today from HN saying my November order now delayed till like 15th of December.

  • No Daddy No!
