This is not about OP posting the deal. This is more of Apple

13 pro max vs 14 pro max = $280 dis. A $2K phone with approx 14% discount for last gen?? Seriously?? Would someone who willing to spent close to $2K and want last gen phone?

    • +3

      Apple fanboi will

      • I don't think they would. They'd wanna spend more because reasons.

    • +14

Apple's pricing works differently to Android phones. It's a mistake to compare them. To name a few reasons:

      • Less difference between generations
      • Older models effectively become lower end
      • They're ahead on performance
      • They're arguably ahead on UX
      • Their user base is less likely to switch
      • They aren't competing with other manufacturers
      • Longer support makes them a more compelling purchase
      • Tight integration with the Apple Ecosystem
      • +32

Totally understand, but if you're already going to spend $1500+, wouldn't it better to get the latest generation by adding 14% more? In my opinion, buying iphone is best during pre-order because there's no point waiting iphone to be on sale.

        • -7

You’re falling for the scam Apple propagate.

          • +14

@Pratty: at these prices you either buy the 14 pro or you buy the 13 pro used for around $1000 with still a year warranty remaining, the discount is pathetic for last gen phone

          • +3

@Pratty: If you're buying Apple products there's gonna be a premium price that you need to pay nevertheless. However, say you buy iPhone 13 pro for $1,5k vs iPhone 14 pro for $1,75k. In 2 to 4 years time when you need to upgrade your phone, your Iphone 14 pro can be sold at higher price as well. For approximately the same losses, why would you not want to use latest and greatest technology.

Ofc no point in arguing if you're not interested to be in the apple ecosystem, but enlighten me if I'm wrong.

        • +3

My daughter bought the previous model because she preferred the colour.

When asked about the slower SOC, she simply said she is quite happy to settle for the second fastest phone in the market.

      • And most importantly, higher resell value.

    • +12

My takeaway is $1.5k for a year old phone with 128gb storage. No thanks.

    • -5

If it was any good they wouldnt have to discount them

      • I am thinking more if many people willing to pay last gen phone for 14% discount, why Apple wants to discount more?

      • If they want to sell , they do . Not everyone can afford , equals discount ! Are they any good , for the people that use , yes !!!

      • +1

What is your point? Anything that's discounted is a bad product? That means everything on OzBargain is a bad product then lol

        • +2

This user has upvoted 1 deal in his almost 7 years of membership.

I am surprised he isn't upvoting the OzRRP deals.

          • +1

@ihfree: LOL what an odd deal to pick your first upvote on too.

    • +1

      Also, 128GB

    • +3

I think you’ll find that the discount is appealing on the basis that the 14 doesn’t offer anything extra that a typical user would genuinely find desirable for $280.

    • Maybe a apple product collector … Buy low now and sell high in 50 years. Didn't the first gen iPhone get some crazy price recently?

    • -1

Harldy Normal gets promoted here and his bots boot anyone here off that exposes the TRUTH!
Local HN Price: Iphone 12 $1848 !!! Of course Optus being your ONLY option there!
Why save money on JB if you can donate to Gerry?

    • Someones needs an iPhone will :)

  • -5

As someone who has had a 14 pro since launch day and absolutely hates the dynamic island I think this is a good deal for a pro iPhone that will have everything you need and not the bloody dynamic island, especially if combined with the ultimate gift card

    • +1

Can’t you just turn the dynamic island off?

      • There are dozens of Android apps giving you as many islands and pills as you like!

    • +2

Is it that annoying? It seems like a nice feature.

      • I have the dynamic island and find it is a nice feature to have, have not had any issues with it. The always on display is nice to have too

        • +1

Same, dynamic island is a bit of a feature / usability element, i dont mind it.. and always on display is great!

    • +1

Interesting. I'm indifferent to it, wouldn't say i hate it.

      AOD is awesome though.

  • +5

People pay as long as there is a bitten apple logo

    I just bought a 13 mini 😅

    • If I was in the market for a phone that is what I would get.

  • Seeing these crazy ass prices for 13th gen iPhones makes me still one happy XS Max owner.

    • +2

      Me with the 7😁

    • +3

I paid more for my XS Max at release in 2018 and recently sold it for $435. I reckon part of paying these prices is to consider how long it’s going to kept for and it’s resale price.

  • Amazon same Price now

  • +1

Seriously guys $2k for a mobile phone.
How could Laptops are cheaper than a mobile phone?

    • +2

Same reason why a Lamborghini is more expensive than some apartments. Higher profit margins for luxury brands

      • Hand assembled ‼️

      • +2

Meh, not really applicable here IMO, apple also makes 'luxury' laptops, which it sells for around about the same cost as it's phones. I've got a house full of tech but $2k for a phone when they sell a new M2 MacBook pro for that…… crazy stuff.

  • iPhone 13 Pro or 14 Base model? They look pretty similar. Keen to hear thoughts

    • +5

Go with 13 Pro, 14 is just the same as the 13. The only change I think is the A15 Bionic chipset on the 14.

      • +7

Actually, I think the 13 Pro and 14 have the same A15 Bionic chip. Only the 14 Pro and Pro Max have the new A16 chip. Which makes the 13 Pro seem like a much better buy cos of the nicer cameras.

        • +5

Yeah the 13 pro is the better buy than the 14 even if they have same chipset

    • +2

13 pro is the one to get.

the big differences are screen and cameras.

    • +3

Don’t bother with the 14. Might as well get a base 13. Same chip, marginal screen and camera improvement.
14th gen only buy pro. Otherwise 13.

    • I would fall for 13 Pro series all the way.

  • +3

Sold my 13 pro max 256gb for 1300 on Marketplace, this price seems way too high for last gen.

    • +1

Why would you sell such a new phone?

      • +1

Because the chase is better than the catch 🪝

    • +2

If you genuinely sold for $1300…I think you undersold and lost money for no reason…

But on the flip side, the buyer got a nice deal

      • 13 pro max 128gb go for 900-1000 and have for a long time (from 6 months of going on sale) on Marketplace

A 256gb for over 1100-1200 is over the odds or it was until the new 14 line up, specs and price increase gave sellers the balls to ask for more. Does not mean they’re getting it though.

12/13/14 are all much of a muchness spec wise. All are 5G and if battery life is under 90% $110 gets you a new battery and 2 more years of use.

I think many now will be awaiting the 15 unless good deals on the 14 come along but China have shut down apples iPhone plant in retaliation for US chip sanctions and this is going to seriously affect supply!

Lots of moving parts so I’ll keep my max>mini 12 and toss in a battery and wait for the 15 with USB

  • +1

Good for people cross shopping with the 14 plus

    • +3

This one, is a valid reason to go for 13 pro max, promotion and more premium feel. But yes, if you want to stretch a little, should go for the 14 pros. But honestly, I felt 14 pros especially Dynamic Island feature hype died down after using it for a week, feels very gimmicky.

  • -1

Apple haters never disappoint to go out of their way to trash every post re apple. What a bunch of L’s.

    • Mr Cook thanks you for your blind loyalty, it make ever creasing prices for a bit of mass produced technology that devalues at a rate that makes cars look like an investment opertunity

  • Clearance on 13P&13PM and then drop the price on 14&14P as Apple's marketing strategy implemented oversea market. Due to Oz market is unique size and demand, the clearance on 13P&PM are taking longer…you may see the 14 and 14P have the $200 off the RRP promotion soon, Xmas sales probably.

  • That’s a lot of monies for a phone that’s >13 months old.

    • +1

It's a good lesson on how longevity affects price.

  • -3

People not want this…. people want super Chinese phones that is more powerful, better quality, better specs, for only 30% of price!

  • no deal

  • +1

Offers before Xmas on 14 seem unlikely as China is frigging with apples 200k workers at the apple plant in China in retaliation for US chip embargos

  • Remember just before and right after September release of 14, the 13 model came down $300 to $1000 with few retailers and telcos. I think this trend will continue very soon with ageing 13 range. Also lots of people dump unwanted gifts on eBay etc right after new year’s and xmas. So this is definitely not a good deal imho, just wait a month or two. Also recent Coles and woollies gift cards promos effectively gave me a $200 discount, hence making 14 promax128 only $50 dearer than this jbhifi 13 promax128 offer … so😏
