    Nice price on the pixel

    Macbook pro is cheap.

    • -7

So cheap we can call it value for money vs the Windows competitors (in terms of performance and quality for every dollar spent).

      • Maybe against Intel but I feel you could get the same with AMD for less. You also can't user upgrade down the line.

Having said that though what you're paying for is MacOS which is a user-friendly Unix-like OS, whereas on Windows based PCs you have to result to other shells like Ubuntu which aren't specially made for your machine, lack software, budget of Windows and MacOS etc. So MacOS is basically the only other option.

Edit: Apple fanboys are a weird bunch, I even compliment the machine and I still get downvoted lol. It's like bots scanning keywords lmao.

        • You are not wrong. its a different market. You can buy Toyota or Benz, both people are not wrong. Both will take you from point A to point B.

          • +5

@John Doh: Yeah. To extend your metaphor, you can make a Windows machine run better than a Mac easily, but it's like putting in a Ferrari engine in a Toyota. You either have to put up with inferior Linux distributions or Windows.

I have to put up with Windows because I need the customisation/config I can't get on MacOS and the software I can't get on Linux distributions and that's frustrating. I can dual boot, but it's a hassle.

            • @pennypincher98: Would this mean that you use both or windows only?

              • +1

@cerealsmok3r: I use both Windows and Linux based machines regularly, but if there's a Mac around for a job I don't need special customisation tools for I'll gladly use that.

        • +3

on Windows based PCs you have to result to other shells

Built-in Powershell is exceptionally robust leveraging most Windows and Azure frameworks. I doubt you’ll find it lacking.

          • @AlexF: PowerShell is great for Windows and to automate scripts etc for Windows. It's still a program though and written in C#. Using Python is easier.

Plus I'd prefer to use LAMP instead of WISA. By this stage though we're talking personal preference not objective fact.

And Windows will say things like "no this is bad" and Linux won't so :)))

        • +1

You have a whole lot of users who are triggered by any positive mention of MacOS.

Way too many deals have noise/misinformation rather than discussion of the product or deal.

          MacOS which is a user-friendly Unix-like OS

          MacOS is certified Unix.

It sounds like you're talking about CPU performance. A MBP is much more than that:

          • Build quality - aluminium
          • Screen quality
          • Keyboard, trackpad quality
          • Speakers which aren't an afterthought
          • Minimal fan noise
          • Sleep that works properly

I'd be curious to know of a machine that matches a Macbook on these attributes.

          • -3

@ihfree: It's certified Unix but it's better to say it's Unix-based rather than just Unix. Apple doesn't own Unix, it owns MacOS. Thus, it's based on Unix.

I'm not talking about CPU performance at all. I'm talking about the system as a whole. The rest of your reply devolves into meaningless drivel.

            • @pennypincher98: Yikes. Got any valium?

Do you ave any examples of such an AMD based system?

              • -3

@ihfree: You seem to have had it all with that reply.

I'm not going to google for you aluminium Windows based laptops with a decent screen, trackpad and keyboard, do it yourself and pick which. Fans compared (see how far MacBook is down). Speakers tbh I don't have a lot of experience with but likely any decent 2 in 1 laptop as they're designed for media consumption. You mightn't know what they are though because Apple hasn't copied the idea yet.

                Sleep that works properly

You must be really grasping at straws to have to include a software difference when I was literally just talking about how software was better.

Like I said, some Apple fanboys just see red whenever they see a negative comment and don't even bother reading the positives.

                • +4

@pennypincher98: Woah woah woah. I'm not even disagreeing with you. I feel like that should have been clear. You seriously need to calm down.

I'm just clarifying what is meant by this:

I feel you could get the same with AMD for less.

I am genuinely interested in such a laptop as my partner is unlikely to switch to a Mac.

Thank you for that link… the MBP is the noise floor. I wouldn't say the results are valid though given:

Idle results are tested with nothing happening – the machine sits idle for at least 30 minutes in the lowest performance mode available.

Currently, they have a Dell Inspiron with a 9th gen CPU. There is no easy way to configure this to get a decent balance of fan noise/performance.

                  Sleep that works properly

You must be really grasping at straws to have to include a software difference when

Sleep is hugely important for a laptop. I was quite surprised with a Mac that I could just close it and put it in a bag. There is no way you could do that with the last Windows systems I've had. I've also seen complaints on various deals with workarounds suggested.

          • @ihfree: Apple are unbeatable at the moment in portable computing.

      • 😀 should i buy or wait for 14" m2? That's the q…..

    • If you don't mind refurbished, can already get at around this price

  • +6

Some more good prices on smart speakers in the catalogue:
    - Echo Dot (3rd gen): $18
    - Echo Dot (4th Gen): $37
    - Echo Show 5 (5th gen): $57
    - Echo Show 8 (2nd gen): $97

    • Nest mini 2: $35
    • Nest hub (2nd gen): $77
    • Nest hub max: $277
  • +1

    How fortuitous.

Friend was literally talking to me about buying a MacBook. But was unsure m1 air, m2 air, or go all in on the 14 base.

Welp kinda decides for her! Told her go value for m1 air or just all in for the 14 lol.

Great prices on the 14 pro and decent on the m1 air too. 200 bucks off apples price isn't bad (though 100 ish off normal price at office works.. Eh)

    • +5

The education union store is cheaper for the m1 and shipped to the door. Been this price for almost a year and a half also. https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5000447/shop/buy-mac/macbook-ai…

      • But you need edu ID?

        • +1

Never got checked when I bought by ylmv

        • It's not required for every order.

We may require evidence of your eligibility. We reserve the right to cancel some of or part of your order if we become aware that you are not a student, teacher or lecturer as set out above or if your purchases are not for your own personal, education, or research use. If we cancel your order in these circumstances, we will inform you in writing and refund any money that you may have paid.

          • @b3au: Do they ask a copy of your uni ID or uni email is suffice?

            • @CarbonFour: They don’t check, so you need neither.
If you’re one of the 2 people in Australia to ever get checked, I’d imagine student ID is the one they need.

      • Is there a apple store gift card promo going on?

      • -2

        Your link says otherwise.

        $2,658.70

        • Deal starts in 8 days. as per the title from OP.

          • -2

            @Bal: I know.

            • @Daabido: Think his reply was to my air price comparison which is always that 1300 odd price. No the 14

  • +2

    Expect Amazon to price match.

    • +5

Good time to stock up with this Amazon gift card deal from Aldi then ;)

      • +1

        Very good idea! Aldi knew……..

        • +1

That Black Friday was coming of course.

    • I hope they do. Gotta price claim!

  • +17

I have a feeling that when M2 Pro is launched, Apple wont reduce the prices of M1 Pros, but instead increase the price of M2 Pros. Just like the iPad Pro M2. Everybody following in nVidia's footsteps.

    • +6

      Damn you US dollar!

    • +5

And watch them label it "inflationary pressures" and "supply issues".

      • Apple dosen't need a reason to raise prices lol

      • -1

Just out of curiosity, what would you expect them to label inflationary pressure and supply issues? Or do you think they're somehow immune to both? Or do you think they should just wear them out of the kindness of their hearts?

        • This isn't even a dig at Apple, it's just the industry standard. People will believe inflationary pressures and supply issues as valid reasons for putting up prices regardless of how valid it actually is.

It'll be probably true to some degree, but they'll have strategies to mitigate the impacts while maximising the profits. The market is becoming ever more saturated and they need to keep revenue up somehow. Apple at least is smart enough to know this and has grown in the software space (Apple TV+, Apple Music, iCloud+ etc) and accessories/peripheries (dongles, Magic ___ etc). The brilliantly designed Apple One gives you 3 tiers of increasing savings and the more services you use, the more value you get out of it. You're less likely to go with Spotify instead of Apple Music for example if you can get it bundled cheaper.

      • 7.3% inflation in Australia. US Inflation 7.7%
AUD down against the USD by 6% this month.

How very dare they reference the inflationary pressures impacting on prices.

  • Is it possible to get JBHIFI to price beat on the macbook

    • +1

I don't think so. I'm hoping they'll go this low for Black Friday and also having the $1000 GC for 24 months $99p/m Telstra plan.

      • Well, not $1000 but $1200.

    • Jb have never 'price beat' in all of history. It's a match, and the stars have to align to all their requirements.

  • Do JBhifi usually price match or price beat Officeworks? just wanna get that watch4

    • +1

      Jb only price match

  • Is the refresh rate of the macbook pro 14 inch 120hz or still capped at 60? Doesn't say anything about it on their website

    • I think OW left this out - ProMotion technology for adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz.

    • Can confirm the 14 inch Pro has 120hz screen, see Apple website for detailed specs.

  • Samsung A33 for $387 is decent

  • For the Pixel 7, will the other storage options also be discounted? I need at least the 256gb version

    • +1

$1,449 RRP for the 256Gb vs $1,037 for the discounted 128Gb - $412 buys a lot of online storage, for a long time :)

      • almost 3 years worth of storage on the 2TB google one plan.

  • +1

I bet the price of Lift Vertical mouse is a price error. So cheap from $129 down to $13

  • +1

Bugger, I'm waiting on the Galaxy watch 5 pro to go on sale. 🤞

  • -1

Picked up a M2 Air 8/256gb new off fakey for $1100, might flog it off for the 14” not sure.

    • I’d be keen on the M2 if you decided to sell

    • +1

      Fakey?

    • Hi, can you please elaborate how you managed to get it for $1100?
      Thank you so much!!

      • Step1: Someone listed it for sale on Fakey (Facebook)
        Step 2: Mcuser goes “$1100?”
        Step 3: Seller goes “Dope”
        ?
        Step 7: Profit?

        • Pretty much.
Lady bought it realised it wasn’t enough gb when she set it up, she bought another 1Tb one, don’t think she realised she could have returned it to Amazon.

          • +1

@Mcuser: Ah didn't realise Fakey means Facebook.

I think you are rather lucky as there are tons of scammers trying to sell Macbook a lot less than rrp.

            • +5

              @moneytomyway:

Ah didn't realise Fakey means Facebook.

              Nobody ever did.

            • @moneytomyway: Nah, They are easy to pick they send you to a website to buy.
Buy with cash on pick up after checking the serial no on apples website.

        • Sometimes "Fakey" is also Fency, used to fence stolen goods, so there can be a
          Step:0 Macbook gets stolen.
Not a problem unique to Facebook, though.

  • +2

Apple refurb store is $22 more if want to try out till 8/1

  • Is the s7 Fe tab worth it at $697?

    • +1

If you don't mind used, you can get S7 under $600 at marketplace.

      • That's true, the fe has a bigger screen though, I don't might refurbished

    • No! I got mine for $499 from binglee, 64gb wifi one

  • When is the best time to buy a new Macbook? I'd probably buy an Air.

    • +1

      When it's cheapest! :P

Black Friday sales probably best bet.

    • When they are on clearance after the next model is released. I've had discounts of around 30-40% off the old retail price.

      • Which stores

        • Back in the good old days Dick Smith when it was owned by Woolworths was the first then Officeworks. You might not find the best discounts if Apple basically reuses a model as the base model of the new lineup like they did with the M1 Macbook Air this time, But the discount on clearance can be good. Keep an eye on the price on officeworks website when new models are announced. When they are slow moving is when you'll find the best discounts.

  • +2

Are people upvoting this for the laptop or the other items?

  • +1

Is there a good to fair chance the 16" variant will follow suit and go on sale as well?

  • Morning beats the Optus/Harvey Norman deal for the Pixel 7 Pro

  • is it worth upgrading to Watch 4 from samsung gear s3?

  • +1

For the MacBook probably better to get Apple gift cards from the next Coles deal then buy it using them on the edu store… would be roughly $120 extra but you would get $250+ groceries included?

  • As far as I am aware, apple store does price match as well. I did this a couple of year ago. Can someone confirm?

    • +1

Only up to 10% on the price difference. Officeworks discount for the MBP 14” is >10%

  • Grab a mac on last deal on 27th Oct, $50 expensive than current deal. Can I ask OW to return the difference?

  • Looks like a good price on the Watch 4, have heard mixed reviews on the battery life though, wondering if it's better to wait for the 44mm version to go on sale?

    • +1

It comes down to which size do u prefer. Personally i prefer smaller so a larger watch with bigger battery wouldn't mean much to me. In case u dont mind any size, wait for 44mm if u care about battery OR just go for $197 40mm if u care about the price.
There's $250 44mm deal from harvey norman + jb hifi price match

  • Only if they would have an Air with 16gb/512gb. I don’t need that extra processing power that comes with M1 pro but I could certainly use a bit of extra ram and storage.

    • M2 Air, 16GB/ 512GB with multiple ports and support for dual display = dream laptop

  • Still waiting for Mac pro 14 m2….. By the way, will apple match these price, have money in app store …
