Once again, a massive shoutout to @jasonc74 for tipping me off to this deal. I feel like a broken record…

This deal seems to be only available at locations operated by Ampol Retail Pty Ltd (i.e. Ampol-owned locations). Most Ampol locations do not have any signage regarding this deal, but you should ask the attendant whether their AmpolCash gift cards are discounted by 5%.

This deal is not stackable with the current AMEX cashback offer, as AmpolCash gift cards are not sold via the Ampol app.

Although AmpolCash Digital gift cards are sold at a 5% discount or 3% cashback everyday at a number of gift card portals, I have still posted this as a deal, as there is an important difference between AmpolCash physical gift cards and AmpolCash Digital gift cards:

  • AmpolCash physical gift cards are accepted at all locations listed on the Ampol store locator with EFTPOS facilities, including all EG locations (including locations formerly operated by Woolworths Group and may be branded as Ampol Woolworths or Caltex Woolworths).1 It can also be redeemed at Caltex-branded locations with EFTPOS facilities, as long as it is not a location that appears on the Caltex / Puma Energy locator.

  • AmpolCash Digital gift cards are only redeemable at 63% of locations listed on the Ampol store locator. AmpolCash Digital gift cards are not redeemable at any EG locations, as EG's checkout system (including the barcode scanner) has not been programmed to accept AmpolCash Digital gift cards.

Other tips in regards to AmpolCash physical gift cards:

  • They can be redeemed in conjunction with a number of fuel discount offers at Ampol or EG.

  • They cannot be used to pay for any gift cards at Ampol or EG locations. I have tried this at both types of locations within the last year and got an error message on the EFTPOS terminal each time.

  • Even if you set a PIN on an AmpolCash physical gift card, you do not need to enter the PIN to redeem the gift card. Simply swiping the gift card and pressing Enter on the EFTPOS terminal when prompted for a PIN is sufficient to redeem the funds on the gift card.

  • The only ways you can check the balance of an AmpolCash physical gift card are to (1) check the receipt for the last purchase made using the gift card, (2) calling the AmpolCash team during operating hours or (3) emailing the AmpolCash team.

  1. AmpolCash physical gift cards can only be used at unattended locations if the gift card has PIN verification enabled.
    - You can enable PIN verification at the time of purchase by telling the attendant you would like to set a PIN. The attendant will ask you to swipe the gift card and key in your desired PIN.
    - Otherwise, you can email [email protected] with the gift card number on the front of the card and a copy of the gift card proof of purchase and request PIN verification to be enabled on the gift card. ↩

      Correct.

      Ampol should be using 5541 (Service Stations) as the MCC for any purchase of AmpolCash gift cards, as you would be using the same EFTPOS machine as the EFTPOS machine used to pay for fuel in-store. Considering that MCC is not listed as an eligible MCC, I would expect you to receive no cashback from Citi.

      Meanwhile, in Hobart:

      • The cheapest fuel station for U91 is an Ampol ($1.859/L) - assuming you do not want to use any discount vouchers.
      • The cheapest fuel station for U91 when using a 6c/L Woolworths fuel voucher is an EG Ampol ($1.839/L).

      Hence why I was happy to purchase a discounted AmpolCash gift card myself.

          Yes, you get an extra 2c/L discount at EG Ampol and participating Ampol locations in Tasmania. If you go to one of the participating Ampol locations in Tasmania, you only need to show your Everyday Rewards card to obtain the discount; you do not actually need a fuel voucher saved on the Everyday Rewards card in order to get the discount.

          It has been like that since 2016 (if I remember correctly), when RACT introduced their 6c/L discount offer for RACT members at United Petroleum locations across Tasmania, and Woolworths in Tasmania matched this offer in response.

              @GregRust: I forgot to mention that Woolworths Group management in Tasmania has a degree of autonomy in how they manage their stores, which is how you get the situation where:

              • Woolworths in Tasmania had its own loyalty program separate from Everyday Rewards until Jan 2021.

              • You could earn 6c/L fuel vouchers at Tasmanian BIG W and BWS locations up until early 2021, even though they were axed for mainland BIG W and BWS locations a few years earlier.

              • Butchers at Woolworths in Tasmania continued cutting and packaging a lot of meat products in-store until late 2019, whereas butchers at mainland Woolworths stores stopped doing this a couple of years earlier.

      Out of all the Ampol and EG Ampol locations I have been to over the years, I have only once been told (at an EG Ampol) that split payments was not possible… but that was due to the previous customer trying to do split payments and continually getting error messages, so the staff member thought that the checkout system did not allow for split payments. It took a bit of convincing on my part to get the attendant to attempt split payments…

        I think my local Ampol is just a rogue operator, they refuse to apply the 4c discount as well despite being advertised on the Ampol website. That's how I know they don't do split payment, Ampol HQ gave me a $20 digital AmpolCaah voucher due to me reporting them for not applying fuel discounts, I was trying to do split payment so I could use it!

          Maybe your local Ampol remembered you from the previous complaint and they still don't want to help you. It could be time to send over another complaint lol

          Geez, when I called up Ampol customer service to complain about an Ampol Foodary location not accepting an AmpolCash Digital gift card (even though the Ampol website clearly said it accepted it), all customer service did was apologise to me and remind the site manager that they definitely should be accepting AmpolCash Digital gift cards.

    If you have access to Reward Gateway they are also doing 5% off Ampol card. I always use that with Toyota 4c off and get Woolies Reward point (Can't use woolies fuel voucher with Toyota discount).

      That is brilliant if your local Ampol location accepts AmpolCash Digital gift cards, and if you are happy with $50 and $100 denominations.

      I usually purchase fuel from unattended Ampol locations and EG Ampol locations: both these locations accept AmpolCash physical gift cards, but do not accept AmpolCash Digital gift cards.

          AmpolCash Digital gift cards are always an option, but that is only useful if the Ampol location(s) you frequent actually accept AmpolCash Digital gift cards. I personally almost exclusively purchase fuel at EG Ampol, so AmpolCash Digital gift cards are useless for me.

          AmpolCash Digital gift cards are sold at a discount (or with cashback) at some gift card portals. Have a look at the discounted gift card wiki if you haven’t already.
