Dodo 3G Modem & Data for $24.50 (Half-Price) at Coles This Week

111

Alcatel AL720 USB 3G Modem with several data options
5/10GB data, 30 day expiry.
100 hours/30 day expiry
250/500MB per month for 12 months
7.2MBps max download - 900/2100 MHz UMTS. Uses Optus network.

I like Dodo's 12 month option eg up to 500MB per month (off-peak hours) or 250MB if you get up late. Mine was easy to activate & use, even my 76-year old aunt uses one when she stays with her boyfriend interstate. Officeworks has dropped its regular price from $39 to match Coles. My modem was supplied unlocked.

  • Not yet in the Coles stores in my area … not good form for a catalog item. Hopefully later in the week.

    • No luck at Coles for me also - "They haven't arrived yet" - but I picked one up at Officeworks on the way home. OW price-matched Coles, less 5%, even better, but they've now dropped their shelf price to $24.50.

  • Cheaper than Bing Lee (was $28)

This is on page 25 of catalogue

Oh, and Officeworks stock these ;)

  • why not the virgin $29 for $10?

    • They don't have the 12-month option?

it that $24.50 include any data value? that's modem only right?

        • No, it's modem AND data: you choose between 5/10GB with 30 day expiry, 100 hours with 30 day expiry, or 250/500MB per month for 12 months.

  • Anyone know what increments they bill the data in? Per mb, kb etc?

    • +2

Activated one of these a couple days ago, it's kb

  • Dont get it. So for $24.50 one time payment i get modem and 250mb data per month for 12 months?

    • Yup, that's right. And if you're a night-owl and use it between midnight and 7am, you'll get 500MB per month and a free modem.

    • Sounds handy for a tablet that is mostly used on wifi.
What happens if you go over? Just stops working until the next month?

Good luck using the included data on the Optus network…

  • I price-matched one of these the other week at Officeworks from MSY ($29 less 5% = $27.55) so this is a really good deal, no other mobile broadband comes close in terms of cost/expiry for the 12 month option.

The only problem was when I tried to activate by phone, it asked me for two numbers then the line went silent and I had to call up customer service to get it sorted out, so I'd ignore the documentation on the case and activate online rather than by phone.

I also wonder if there'll be the option to extend this in a year's time or whether you'll have to buy another starter kit to get the 'bonus' again, but a year is a long time and maybe another carrier will offer a similar/better deal by then anyway.

KB increments are good, though uploads are counted too unfortunately.

  • Recharge is way more expensive, though more data.

    $139 15GB(7am to 12am) 30GB(12am to 7am)365 Days

If you only want a trickle of data like this, buy a spare, as I don't see an "activate by" date on the box.

    24.50 for 250mb x 12 = 3gb
    $24.50 = 3gb

I might need about 12gb for a year
    so 24.50 x 4
    48.50 x 2

    $97 - 12gb not bad

    • You'd need to activate then all as you can't use next months data if you run out this month.

      • This is done at at the store? or is it possible to activate online by any chance?

  • Is the Dodo service of the same quality asVirgin and Optus? Or is the network traffic set to a lower priority?

  • Anyone knows if we can use the sim in a mobile phone to access the web or as a hotspot (tethering)?

    • +1

I'm using it in a pocket WiFi so yes should work !

  • So the sim can use directly in an iPad, am I right? Thanks

    • +1

      Yes, double punched SIM.

      • Thanks! Do we need to give out credit card details during activation? What happen if 250 mb has been used up during that month? Additional charges etc?

        • +2

No credit card required and they told me once you use up your data it just disconnects you until your next months quota kicks in.

  • Anyone can find stock for this near Sydney west, tried merrylands and north parramatta today, no luck.

  • No stock at 3 coles west Bris - still looking
