  • Can you buy these gift cards, then goto jb hifi and use them to buy apple gift cards?

    • +2

JB Hi-Fi’s instore checkout system will let you do this.

However, the bigger question is whether the JB Hi-Fi staff member serving you will let you do this, as some JB Hi-Fi staff members will absolutely insist you cannot use gift cards to purchase gift cards. As long as you tell them you want to pay by card or EFTPOS, you should be fine. In my experience, the vast majority of staff don’t care, but you may run into a staff member who will demand to see the card you are going to use before you use it (and yes, that happened to me once).

      • If converting to one Apple gc (I.e $100 TCN to $100 Apple) it makes sense
But if you want to get $400 of Apple GC's and have a stack of TCN's (typically smaller denominations), just saying your using card seems suss right?
If they're the type who don't car then all is well but if they're ones who would check don't think that excuse would pass right?

  • Hi,
I converted all the ultimate gift cards into good guys gift card.

I ended up with too many good guys gift cards.
can anyone please tell me what happens if I buy something on click and collect and cancel it ?do they put it in the new good guys gift card or the existing one I used

    • not sure. apple refunds you into another gift card so i assuume its the same? could always call them to find out

    • +1

How do you convert them to The Good Guys gift cards? Wanting to do the same thing.

Also, unfortunately The Good Guys online limits you to 2 gift cards per purchase

      • You must go to a physical TGG store and use the TCN gift cards to purchase a TGG gift card.

You should be able to split payments across multiple TCN gift cards to purchase a single TGG gift card. Someone last year used 20 TCN gift cards to purchase 1 TGG gift card.

        • +2

Hi.i want to claim the record title for this

Went to TGG with 54 TCN and ULTIMATE gift card and received $5400 TGG gift card in $500 denominations.

However, the pin can be seen without scratching it. So i am a little worried someone has seen the card numbers and pin and waiting cards to be activated.

So i am considering purchasing something on the website ( click and collect)which will be $1000 since I can only use 2 cards and cancelling it.

And hope they will email me new card which can be stored in my email

          • +1

@Ozpe1903: No worries, I’ve updated the FAQ page and anointed you the new record holder!

Let me know what happens when the click and collect order is cancelled. I would be curious to know whether the funds go back onto the original gift cards or a new one is issued.

  • Does anyone know if I can use online chat or calling up to price match, then sending the order to a store to pay with gift cards with JB or TGG?

    • I called my local JB Hi-Fi to negotiate price match over the phone, then went in store to pay with gift cards. I got the name of the person who agreed to the price.

Just for extra safety/leverage, I had also gotten the price match through online chat so that I had a link and a chat transcript to show that the same price match had been agreed to in writing. (Can't pay online with multiple third party gift cards).

      • Did you price match for JB Hi-Fi gift cards? I checked with live chat support and they said they won't do it

        • I price matched a dryer.
Then went in store to pay with 5 x $100 discounted gift cards and debit card as split payment.

  • Waste of time: Coles Coffs harbour: only available on $50 cards, all sold out, wouldn't sell to under 18s anyway🤦

    • my daughter comes with me who is U18 and visibly a child and never gets questioned purchasing gift cards

      • +2

Just bs from Coles staff pulling rules from their backside.

    • Why can't minors buy gift cards?

      • +1

Cos coles staff make the rules. BS rules.

        • they must think gift cards are gambling lol

  • +1

Seems mostly sold out metro Vic

    • Yeah I can’t find any

  • Those gcs are extinct/precious now, ironically they will be restocked in 2 days and nobody wanna buy them. Or now still can find them in Woolworths

  • I bought the ultimate teens last year and was never able to use them in subway , chatime and boost … they are participating retailers shown on the website for this particular card. Anyone has the Same issue?

    • It's not unheard of.

It is likely due to the way in which Ultimate gift cards work: the gift card issuer uses unique identifiers in an EFTPOS terminal to determine whether you are at a participating retailer.

When you tap or swipe (or key in) an Ultimate gift card in-person, the gift card issuer checks the unique identifier in the EFTPOS terminal against a list of permitted unique identifiers. If the unique identifier of the EFTPOS terminal you are using is not on the list, your transaction will be declined.

The obvious issue is that if you are at a participating retailer's location that recently had new EFTPOS terminals installed (whether it was due to a new location being opened, or replacement EFTPOS terminals being installed), Ultimate gift cards will only work if the participating retailer remembered to notify Ultimate gift cards of the new EFTPOS terminals' unique identifiers.

  • Can someone please tell me how to use these on the jb website? Entering the card number into the gift card box at checkout won’t let me add the last digit on the card. Do I have to convert this first or something?

    • +1

You cannot redeem these gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website, as these gift cards operate on the EFTPOS network. TCN gift cards are not the same as JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

You will need to "convert" the TCN gift card into a JB Hi-Fi gift card first, and the only way you can currently do that is to go to a physical JB Hi-Fi store and use the TCN gift card to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card. Just cross your fingers and hope the staff member will let you do this, as some staff members will not allow this. If you tell the staff member you want to pay by card or EFTPOS, you should get away with it.

TCN usually have a feature on their website where you can exchange part or the full balance of a TCN gift card (featuring JB Hi-Fi) for a JB Hi-Fi gift card, but this function was removed a few weeks ago. It will probably be back sometime in December though.

What! If I knew this I never would have purchased. What a bunch of nonsense. This why I’ve never liked gift cards with all the t&c’s. Not worth the extra discount

      • +2

I must say you have the patience of gold basically answering the same thing everywhere. Especially when there’s a FAQ for gift cards which I believe you also had a part in writing up, or even the whole thing.

        • +7

I wrote the whole FAQ… and yet I do not even link to it when I probably should.

Also, copy-and-paste is my friend, especially since I have over 70 comments bookmarked!

        • -6

Well far be it for me to assume it could be used Online with ease as they keep telling us how versatile gift cards are. Who knew I had to clap my hands, tap my feet 3 times, say a chant for them to start working.

          • @ironworthy: You can sell them in classifieds section of this website and I’m sure someone will take them off your hands

  • Realistically, if I wanted to get an iphone 15 next year, would you recommend trying to get these discounted gift cards right now?

The biggest risks I see is that TCN dropping JB Hi Fi entirely, which I guess would be very unlikely.

Or that Jb Hi Fi runs out of stock of the newest iphones and having to wait ages for them.

    • Another risk is something happens like Deliveroo.

    • That’s exactly what I will do. No risk, convert them to JB GIFT CARD and wait

    • +1

Holding the gift card for about a year. You'll lose about a years worth of interest. ~4.5% and there is potential to lose/misplace the cards.

      • the way prices are going inflation will sure be more than 4.5% so no loss there.

  • Warning. I have had a couple of issues with the Choice cards. 1 Choice card won't work or give me a balance and another 3 i purchased separately won't convert to WEBER cards. The error i get says the card number is wrong and to try again or call customer support. I have already successfully converted 1 card but i need the other to convert NOW. No help to me when i need to use them tonight in the cyber monday sale.

  • Does the deal end midnight or after store close tomorrow? Might be checking out a couple of country Coles for any shrapnel left

    • which country coles open until midnight?

    • -1

      Woolies got restocked today

      • Woollies I went to wasn't. Also only 10%

        • I hear some people are using the cards from Woolies and scanning at Coles. They have the card stands out the front.

          • -1

@DryScissors: How exactly are they doing this if they have to be scanned at checkout in woollies?
Edit: nvm just reread your comment though I don't recall the card stands out the front I'll have to keep it in mind

  • Are we able to use 5x$100 card and convert this cards into one single jbhifi/apple gift card $500 denomination or more? Or its $100 card to $100 jbhifi/apple card only

I also saw someone mention loading it into Apple Pay and use it to pay for the gift cards. If I have multiple $100, will I be able to combine it all and exchange it for a bigger denomination gift card using this method

    • Why does large denomination matter?

      • +2

        Saves time at the register.

        • +1

Also attracts less attention from overzealous staff.

        • Is this really the issue? You are wasting your own time to convert them though..

          • @Purkulator: Better to be safe than sorry when the provider goes belly up or stops it’s use at certain retailers.

      • +1

Yeah saves time at the register. Holding one larger denomination rather than multiples $100’s especially if you have a lot of the smaller denomination

  • -1

One of the customers at work had a pretty ballsy hack they used to get the cards. The went to Woolies and took some from there without activating them, she then went to Coles and bought them with the discount. What a way to game the system!

    • +3

These cards will likely be suspended. This happened with many people back in 2020 and technically a theft, so don't risk it for little gain.

      • I said the same thing, absolutely silly move. The lengths people go to for a 15% discount.

      • The serial numbers of gift cards are kept on record by each retailer.
How on earth did the POS system even allow the sale to go through?

  • Cards not discounting at check out today

    • Same. Staffs said cards been sold out, but there are plenty cards on shelf.

      What a crap.

  • Why this deal expire? Still few hours to go

    • You can try your luck, cards were full price for me earlier today.

      • tell me you cancelled?

        • Yeah I didn’t buy them off course
I could’ve just went to ww to get the 10% off but was too lazy

  • +2

Just saw the cards getting restocked at my local Coles. Right on time.

    • Don't you love that!!

JB HF online Swap available again.

    • +1

That's a great news.. Ultimate cards can't exchange jbhifi eGift online

      • WookieMonster said TCN may remove a participating merchant at any time, which is not against its T & Cs. Hence, it is better to use at the preferred merchant ASAP.

It is a hit and miss to buy giftcard instore with these cards.

        • Very true.. I'm on warning too I have too many ultimate thanks.. I have to exchange it asap for jbhifi

    • +1

I can’t find the link on their website?

      • It is on TCN website, not JB HF. JB HF online use option was removed for a month or so.
