CPU 2C / 4T and has extra SODIMM slot to upgrade RAM, decent deal

Dual core APU kills the deal.

  • That's an insanely cheap price for a laptop, nice find.
Also @scrimshaw, nice eBay find for $377.15!!

  • Worth upgrading from a laptop with i7-3630QM?

  • +1

can see where they cheaped out: 128GB SSD, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and one USB 2.0

Ryzen™ 3 3250U isn't too shabby though, will be quite snappy

    1920 x 1080 res with what I assume will be a decent screen considering it's Acer…

orig RRP $700 seems like a rip off, $397 seems pretty good..

    • +3

Old USB devices don't like USB3, so having a 2 is okay. RAM can upgrade, 128GB easily swapped with a bargain.

      Good deal, OP!

Just be aware that this is Zen (not even Zen+). It's a 2017 architecture crammed in a 2020 chip. It's half the perf of a 3300U; they really shouldn't have given it the 3000-series branding at all.

The closest comparisons on the Intel mobile side are 7th-gen i5 or 8th-gen i3. That should be the kind of performance to expect out of this. Still decent for such a low price, but don't be misled by the naming.

    • No Wi-Fi 6 either by the looks, but it is still a great deal at this price point.

  • +3

What about this $448, $51 difference, which one is better ?

    https://www.binglee.com.au/products/asus-vivobook-f515-intel…

    • +5

It has faster i3-1005G1, and personally I prefer Asus than Acer. Asus Vivobook also has a type C port, slightly lighter, but only 1 RAM slot which might limit the maximum amount of memory you can put in there.

  • Can this be charged via usb c?

  • +2

Definitely worth it for under $400, slap a bigger SSD in there and you're golden for basic use.

How many can I buy to re-sell?

      • +3

        Approximately negative two so far.

  • Hmm. 1.9kg seems like it could be considered quite light for a 15"? Would probably have pounced if this was a 14" or 13"

    • Doesn't it say 1.45KG in the description at the bottom?

      • Says 1.9kg in OP's description. But I just saw the 1.45kg you are referring to on the side under specs. That's a pretty big difference. Wonder what it really is?

        • +1

1.9 KG is the correct weight of this laptop. The intel variant of this laptop is also 1.9KG.

Budget laptops are usually heavier since they use more plastic for reinforcement and not lighter metal alloys or carbon fiber.

          • @scrimshaw: Thanks - yea 1.9kg certainly sounds more "realistic" of a 15" laptop.

  • Can't add it to the cart, none of the Binglee's laptops can be added to cart at this time, other items no problem.

    • It seems Bing Lee has removed their eBay's laptop stocks.

  • Just bought one, just need a laptop for basic use as I already have a gaming desktop. Also got 5% cash back. Tracked at $20.35 so final price $386.65 delivered. Thanks Op

  • What is an AMD Ryzen 3 the equivalent to in Intel terms?

    • +1

      i3

      • -6

Ah wow you replied super fast. I just googled it and saw that - but thanks anyway

    • +2

Well, this is a 3250U. Zen cores so more of a 2000U-series (first-gen Ryzen mobile), which itself aligns more with 1000-series (first-gen Ryzen desktop). Which released around the same time as 7th gen Intel.

Basically, this is similar to a 7th-gen mobile i3. Maybe a 7th-gen i5 since the i3 at that time didn't do boost clocking. Maybe an 8th-gen mobile i3, though those seem quite rare (most laptops went i5 by then).

      It's a good step worse than the proper Zen+ Ryzen 3000U-series generation e.g. 3300U.

  • Thanks picked one up for the misses! She was looking for something simple but effective! $378 with CashRewards cashback - click and collect

    • Should have bought 2… now the hits will be jealous.

How to downgrade the usefulness of your laptop in one easy step!

      • Are you certain that is an intellectually honest statement?

        Have you even tried it?

        • Yes. Name 1 thing it does better than Windows 11.

          • @ozbargainer88: Battery life, just to name one thing. Energy usage in general.

Practically impervious to viruses and exploits….

Pretty much unbreakable to mess with and make unbootable and whatever else… the list goes on my friend.

            • @Oofy Doofy: You sound like the Chromebook ads you get on Youtube. For day to day use, Windows is miles in front. And this is coming from a diehard Android user.

              • @ozbargainer88: It just is what it is. It's good to have options. Definitely the best OS for elderly people and children.

This laptop is good if you need something new and are ok with 2 CPU cores… but i ended up finding a second hand i5 8350u 4core8thread dell latitude with 8gbs of ram, 256gb nvme drive and 1080p IPS screen on ebay in great condition for $220 delivered. installed a fresh copy of windows 11 and its running well… battery is at 60% health but its not going to be used as a portable PC. Also the NVME drive has 95% life left on its read and write lifespan.. inhouse micron nvme PCIe3.0 oem drive. :) that runs at 3000MBps speeds.. easy to upgrade to 16gb if needed with a second stick of 8gbs

    • Got a link to where you found your laptop?
Looking for one for my kid as his first computer.

If you want to save a few more bucks, jw.com.au have one of these as manufacturer refurbished in stock for $279. Also have other variants for a little more, but i think the i3 versions have only 4gb. Also W10, but i’m assuming can be updated to W11.

(I just bought one for my mum),

  • i bought something similar almost a year and a half ago for a relative, is the one that has both SATA and NVME? and 2 slots of RAM

  • +1

I've had a NUC with 64GB eMMC before and the hassles with repeated update cycles where the machine would force a Windows update to proceed despite everything I tried to block it, then run out of space on the primary drive during the update were maddening. I'll never buy less than a 512GB NVME again. Just not worth ending up with a machine you have to fight.

  • anyone recommend a decent gaming laptop with 16gb ram? - not crazy powerful - just enough to run games on decent setting at min 60 fps or so?

  • Thanks OP. Purchased this for a to show Powerpoint over HDMI. Better than lugging my gaming lappy everywhere.

  • Seems to have pretty poor reviews on product review https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/acer-aspire-3

    Is it the same one?

  • Can anyone recommend the exact kind of SSD 500GB I should be buying to upgrade this with please?

    • A SATA one will do.

  • Can anyone confirm it comes with the Sata cable included?

  • if you need it on time, do yourself a favour and don't buy it from this mob. check their online review. never will they deliver it on time. I actually bought this laptop for a gift and checked with customer service before buying if I will be able to get it on time. I am well past the delivery date, not even been dispatched yet.

  • OK. Got mine yesterday. Only 5 weeks for Australia Post to deliver it.
Stuck an additional 256gb SSD into it and it actually runs Fortnite at 1080P. Pretty impressed tbh.
Will replace the 4gb SoDimm for a 16 and that should be fine for the kids.
