I use the pro on my lap with no issues
Not saying it's impossible, it's just not as comfy as a laptop. It feels flimsy and unstable or maybe it's just me.
@Rimas: I'd say the same too. I've got a surface pro for work and love it but on the lap it isn't as stable especially getting the right angles BUT not to say you can't and it works fine if you can deal with it.
@Rimas: i have an spro 3 and a surface laptop 4, easily prefer laptop for use on lap - for everything else it's 5050
Remember to add a few hundred grams for the Pro's keyboard as well.
Total weight is around 1.1kg so not that much lighter than the Laptop
I really rate these laptops. I have the 3 and love how light it is.

Sorry, but I cannot tell you. I can only tell you that I also have the 4 for work and there's not much difference in speed between the 3 and 4 (both i5).
I've also never liked the Surface Pro's because all the weight is on the back, and you can't sit it on your lap. Yes, I know you can fold it but might be annoying for some.

Verdict - AMD model of the Surface Laptop 4 is actually better
The AMD model of the Surface Laptop 4 13.5 is an interesting alternative to the Intel SKU and there are some advantages: The device is more affordable, the battery runtime is better, and the multi-core performance is superior to the most expensive Intel option, even on the entry-level Ryzen 5.
The two devices are identical in many sections including the chassis, the input devices, the screen, and the speakers. Even the ports are identical, because Microsoft does not equip the Intel version with Thunderbolt, either, and still uses its proprietary Surface Connect port instead.
Just a general thing; the new Laptop 5 has Thunderbolt 4, so it may be of value to wait if you are keen on using that
@Homr: Well neither of the 3, or either 4 models, have Thunderbolt at all.
Best way of looking at it is that it's a unifying connection type that can feed power and data at once. For instance, if you have a Thunderbolt Dock built into your monitor, you can plug in all your peripherals (USB mice, keyboards, another monitor with a daisy-chained extra monitor, etc) into the dock device, and then just plug in a single usb-c into the Thunderbolt port of your Surface, and you would be connected and charging the laptop off that one cable. You can also buy a Thunderbolt dock seperately (if your monitor doesn't have that sort of feature) and perform the same basic functionality.
Thunderbolt 4 is the new standard, which has much higher data throughput (you could for example, daisy-chain two 4k monitors off eachother) and just is all round faster. Charging speeds are the same, but if you want the Thunderbolt function at all, unfortunately (from what I have read, someone might be able to correct me) the Laptops 3 and 4 don't have Thunderbolt at all.

Ryzen much better for gaming because of stronger iGPU but both are realistically awful for gaming.

Not well. It would be pretty equivalent to meeting the “minimum specifications” in terms of graphics processing requirements. You would have to play with low settings and reduced resolution. This laptop isn’t built for gaming you should buy a gaming laptop if you want to play games.
@Homr: You can get an ok gaming laptop for $1000. Weight is something that comes with performance you can only have one or the other unless you’re willing to spend over about $3000.

Are all keyboards the same on this one? Someone mentioned that different colours might come with different keyboard, like the carpet feel keyboard if you get what I mean.

Tempting, but I think latest gen AMD deals are only 20% more and have better specs.
FYI go for at least 512GB because the nvme SSD is a very short 2230 form factor. I believe there is no space for the standard more common 2280. Upgrading is possible but 2230 is more expensive and limited choices.

That one is really good, top spec with bigger display, better cpu and more storage. But price difference is $500, depends if you need the extra power
