Black or Crap Friday Did You Have a Win?

BLACK or CRAP Friday did you have a win?
Well Thanks To Clear you saved me $13 USD on stuff I'd buy anyway Not just wait all year https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739524 Any savings is a bonus much appreciated again for your work.

Thanks to ShopBack on the 28 degrees challenge already paid out $155 for gift vouches a couple of weeks ago. Ditto as above.

Wanted to use my gift vouches today to buy a laptop a hybrid freezer and maybe a phone.

Laptop ends up $100 more expensive than everyday price.

Freezer found cheaper from a local wholesaler and thinking I can buy this anytime for $150 less after black friday when I do really need it.
Snapped up the Delonghi deal 2 weeks ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/735506 if I waited till today I'd be down $200 or wouldn't have bought it

So far I've saved about $20 and kept over 3K in my pocket.

Thanks Jack without you I wouldn't have discovered things I thought I wanted ended up just being a waste of money and space and didn't need them anyway.

Friends are saying the same thing. How about you?

    Crap Friday
This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

Comments

  • Very underwhelming. Not a single GPU deal.

  • +2

It should be illegal for false discount

    • I agree that there were a couple of false discounts here and there (BigW, CW). But imo there were still some decent deals here and there too.

    • It is illegal. The ACCC has hit Kogan with paltry fines for doing price jacking a few times.

  • Generally a win.

Got a good Sigma lens from Digidirect - great reduced price, extra 5% black friday plus 6% cashrewards.

The gin deal that was posted on here was epic.

    Good BWS discount.

    20% Marks and Spencer.

    $98 1TB SSD at Officeworks.

    Plus other stuff.

    Not bad overall.

  • Not bad.

FIFA 23 for series X for $34 with $20 ebay voucher and a Lenovo M10 plus 3rd gen tablet for $246.75.

    • whered you get that price for the m10 3rd gen?

      • Amazon. It’s sold out now unfortunately. Other retailers have it for $277-279.

Got decent sale this year honestly. Got the stick cam 4 pack from ring.
    Got lotr triligy
    Got the dewalt brushless drill
And some clothes which had a decent sale for my wife from asos.
My friend also got the q930 b.

    • Add to that got the Razer core x for $169 and fifa 23 $30 as well as coffee from inglewood roasters 50% off

  • +1

Bought a bunch of car parts on ebay that normally arent on sale so pretty happy

  • Got some decent stuff, a couple phones for myself and family member, SIM card, Amazon deals, shoes, coffee machine, a couple games etc.

But yeah, GPU deals would have been nice but I don't think Jensen's leather jacket budget allows for it.

  • Bought car parts and tyres for my mothers car. Thought the discounts were ok.

  • Bought a power supply off Amazon a week before black friday and it hasn't moved at NSW depot I suspect it's lost yay ! Terrible sales unless your in the market for a OLED which I already have, was hoping to see some 30 series or 6900 deals but nothing

    • If it's in the Australia Post system, then you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks for your parcel lol

      • 10th November I purchased it lol, probably being used as a door stop !

  • Bought the surface laptop 4 which was a fair price and a lens from ryda ebay.

  • +1

    Complete CRAP !
I checked oznormalprices every few hours for phones and laptop/pc-parts and CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP. 10% off is NOT A BARGAIN.
    Australia SUX at bargains.
    Incase I wasn't clear <"CRAP">

    InB4: CRAP

Nothing, better prices during normal stuff posted here.

Its a waste of time like clickfail

    • You mean $150 ?

      • nope, there was a bug, if you add the gift box item it will discount a further $50 :D, I didn't realize until I saw the PayPal receipt and then invoice.

        • Yeah, I saw the glitch on the paypal screen, but on the final Bose payment screen, the price was corrected…
          You got lucky.

  • +2

got some deals on some shoes.

Also got some new shoes for my car- the 50% Pirelli tyres off at MyCar.

It was a legit sale too. The cheapest other place for the Pirelli is around $290 a tyre, I got it for $169 a tyre.

Still cheaper than the cheapest Kumho's in my tyre size.

  • +3

Maybe peoples expectations on "discounts" are far too high these days.

  • +1

Nothing exciting. Bought a few gifts and reluctnatly bought a cabin suitcase @ 50% off (still thought it was a rip off but needed one ASAP) but didn't really see anything interesting otherwise.

  • Didnt find a thing worth buying, saved myself a motza! 🤣

  • +1

Mediocre. I learned my lesson from last year to not wait for the actual day and to just pick up deals that occur before Black Friday.

Finished my PC build - picked up a 12600KF and a MSI Mortar Wifi MB for $606.90 using the Zip Pay ebay promo. Bummed out that I was apparently a few days too early to get a copy of MW2 from my CPU purchase (according to Scorptec, not sure how true). Price was mediocre and nothing compared to the ShoppingExpress $539 deal 8 months earlier.

Was excited to get the Motorola 5G but my order was cancelled even though I think I was fairly early so 🤷

  • +1

i saw basically 4 things that caught my eye, at best a saving of $60 lol, been really uneventful, maybe Boxing day sales will be better

  • Got a couple of appliances for sous vide cooking, nothing worth impulse buying otherwise.

  • +1

Got an LG C2 42" for PC gaming, a Philips air fryer (I already love it), a Steelseries gaming headset and a Sodastream all at fairly steep discounts (all 50% off or around there, except the headset which was more like 25%). I'm a fairly happy camper!

    • That 42" LG was the best deal this time round I'd say.

  • +1

    Where were the GPU deals?

  • +1

Didn't buy anything. Was waiting for a good NBN deal for us poor FTTN folks. Nothing came up specifically for Black Friday so bit the bullet with Australia Post Broadband (which wasn't specific to Black Friday anyway).

  • Wanted a couple of stuff and they were actually MORE expensive than just sales on a random day… 1TB MicroSD card $160ish now with "Black Friday Sale" around $178-220. Monitor deals are shit as well wanted a third monitor but didnt need it if deal was not good.

  • +1

    I voted Crap Friday.

However, I did pick up four Pirelli tyres at 50% for my father-law. That was a right pain, in the end though it was worth it.

    4 X 235/55r18 @ $640.00

    PIRELLI SCORPION VERD A/S

  • +1

Overall pretty average, nothing too exciting, with the Big W specials early in the week I was hoping for a good one, but then they all got cancelled and it went to trash from there

  • The 50% tyres deals were nice but not much savings in other departments compared to their normal sale prices and alot of jack.

  • No mindblowing prices but enough for me to jump on a LG CS 55. Very happy. Been admiring OLED TVs from afar ever since I got a launch day Vita.

  • +1

no amazing deal today. quite disappointed with amazon especially

  • +1

Was hoping for a Nintendo Switch OLED to go down to $379… not even close.

  • Worst black Friday in the past 6 years.

    I bought

    -Monitor $498 (save $169)
    -Power bank $48 (save $51)
-Vacuum cleaner bags $22 (save $8)
    -Air Tags $99 (save $66)

Have previously spent anywhere from $1500-2500 as I generally save up and do all my retail therapy on the big bargains during BF.

Wish I had grabbed the DJI3 deal on Thursday.

  • +1

Yes a big win, a large online store sent me out multiple items when I only ordered one :), so Christmas gifts are sorted

    • +1

half ya luck. I love it when stuff like that happens

  • No cheap JR passes.

I didn't manage to get any 15% off gift cards either.

Missed out on the bonus $10 back on a $150 gift card last night.

Did get an apple watch 7 refurb for less than $400 after TRS though.

  • I got a bunch of things
Jb hi-fi deals 10 4k movies, some in the 2 for 40 some not with 30% off I got $60au off all up
    Amazon deals
Absolute Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Vol. 3 for $87 normally from $130au to $200 on Amazon
Spawn Compendium, Color Edition, Volume 3 for $80 normally $90 to $130.
Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal Wireless Over-Ear Gaming Headphones, Navy for $540au Normally $880au
    Saving $383au

    Booktopia 10% off
Spawn Deluxe Hardcover Signed Edition, Volume 5 Discount Price $201.06 Original $223.40
Venomnibus by Cates & Stegman Hardcover Discount Price $167.85 Original $186.50
Savage Avengers Omnibus Hardcover Discount Price $144.68 Original $160.75
Black Panther Christopher Priest Omnibus Hardcover Discount Price $144.68 Original $160.75
    Saving $73au
All these are pre-orders. So allowing discounts on Pre-orders is great in my books

I lot of omnibuses tend to jump up and down in price. So locking in for cheap mostly. Is a good idea, well for me anyway

    All-up savings of around $516? Can't complain?

Just got Blackest Night Omnibus for $193au from Fishpond.com normally average of $250 and upwards

  • Crap Friday in that most of the deals were things I already have. Don't need a new phone, or tv, or vaccum cleaner, etc…

  • I did okay largely thanks to the 15% TCN cards at Coles.
Stocked up on baby TCN cards and nabbed a discounted car seat for coming baby due next year, and we have enough cards for a pram too (will wait for boxing day/Jan sales).

Also snagged a pixel 7 256gb to replace my current aging phone, unfortunately JB wouldn't price match the Telstra deal (due to the 256gb model being on back-order) but with the 15% discounted Home/Teen cards it came down to $960 * 85% = $816.

Other than those I wasn't looking for much else, quite happy to not have made any other impulse buys!

  • Black Friday, scored Galaxy Watch 5 pro LTE for ~$439. I went to JB Hifi and price matched Galaxy watch 5 pro to Amazon $479,then paid with 10% off TCN card. Came back home and started setting up the device. To my surprise it was galaxy watch 5 pro LTE. Also, managed to get monthly credit for watch mobile plan via telstra chat.

  • Surface laptop deal from Microsoft eBay was a standout. Freebuds pro for 99 also

  • decent deals on some PS5 games that should have never been 90+ retail anyway. But otherwise underwhelming.
Didnt stop me checking the sales every 5 minutes. and I somehow still managed to miss the only sale i would have been interested in.
Next year i'll set up some kind of automated price checker and oonly be interested in the things i actually would have bought anyway

  • I was happy to be able to upgrade most of my downlights to 1st party Hue Akari, was going to bite the bullet at $79 a pop but they dropped down to $67. Compared to the Nue 3rd party downlights from Amazon which I got 2 years ago, they're a bit brighter and most importantly no more connection issues everything just works seemlessly.

  • I am so glad I am a member of Ozbargain, cos I was waiting to see you lot share some good BF deals.

    NONE caught my fancy.

I thought that was a bit odd. Usually, I am forever buying stuff from Amazon/Ebay because someone from here found and shared a good bargain.

Good to see I can depend on OZB to weed out the bs sales.

  • it was fine….sure we have had much better years, but i kind of went into this with low expectations given the current state of the economy, inflation, supply shortages etc.
I still managed to get all of my xmas shopping done at a good price, so i'm happy.

  • Bought 1 xmas tree ornament, 20% off my diary and some branded stuff on sale from DJs as gifts.

Still seeking a small powerbank, baking trays and s22. Hoping to get lucky at the BD sales.
