Still cheaper than $30 ex shipping I paid at Torpedo 7.

    • And the locking mechanism sounds much better than the Torpedo7 version too.

      • +4

I've got (several of) both (same models, bought from different sources). The T7 one, with the pulleys mounted on a bar that you attach to the ceiling - is far better - the hooks in particular. You have to beat and bend and kludge the (crappy sheetmetal) hooks of this "locking" hoist into a shape that is capable of holding a bike. Assuming they're still using the same rope as mine, it's awful and you'll probably want to replace it.

The lock isn't very useful. Mostly, it just means you have to be careful which angle you hold the rope to get your bike down, because otherwise the lock keeps jamming and the bike doesn't come down. I wouldn't trust the lock to hold my bike up long-term (it just works by jamming the rope), so you still have to fasten the rope to the wall somehow… even if you didn't, you'd end up with a loose rope dangling from the ceiling under your bike.

All that said… I paid a lot more than $5 (+shipping) for mine, and for the money, they do a pretty good job.

Thanks ordered 4 should be good to use to store 4 surf ski’s about 19kg each
shipped to WA $29.76 great deal

    • I heard they can only hold 15kg, but website says different…

      • From the manufactures web site
And the solid steel construction means the lift has a capacity of a 50lb bike
        50 pounds = 22.6796185 kilograms

Double checked and ski's are only 16kg so should be ok

Just picked up 4 shipped to Perth for $29.76 ($9.96 shipping). Because of the design these could potentially be used on a variety of sports equipment that you never use and want out of the way :)

    • +1

could be costly if the ceiling fail :)

    • +3

Use the 4 to make a hammock in your garage

  • Does it say what is the min ceiling height?
    Cant see anything myself.

    • Anything taller than a bike!

Depends how high you need your bikes out of the way. You should be able to hoist them to within about 10cm of the ceiling, so however tall your handlebars and seat are, plus 10cm, plus however much space you want underneath.

I have half a dozen of these hanging bikes from my shed roof. It's a tall shed with 9' walls plus the pitch of the roof. Once they're up, I can walk and work underneath them as if they weren't there.

LOL comment of the day. FAIL.

Awesome, thanks OP! Just bought 4 myself for just under $30 shipped to Brisbane! Two for Bikes and two for Kayaks. All I need to do now is buy the Bikes & Kayaks ;)

  • Great deal. If I wasn't renting I'd buy one or 2.

    • You could ask your landlord if they're ok with you installing them if you leave them when the tenancy ends, at $5 each you're not leaving a big ticket item behind. I've had tenants make requests like this & it's never been an issue for me, well as long as they don't completely muff the installation! ;)

<$14 shipped to Outer Metro Perth for 11x

    Great deal!

  • two hooks in the wall does the same thing? ropes everywhere seems messy

    • +2

      Completely different scenarios
Hooks - Great if you have a wall to put hooks into, but useless/ difficult if you are wanting to hang bikes from the ceiling
Hoist - Useless if you want to hang bikes from a wall but great if you have a ceiling/joist to hang a bike from…

      • +1

"Great if you have a wall to put hooks into".

Ahh yes, i do recall that there are new houses build that do not have walls :P

        • +1

Pergolas, Sheds and carports don't have too many though… (I wouldn't try putting hooks through my shed to hold a bike anyway!)
Guess where bikes are most commonly stored?

        • +1

Bedroom? thats where mine lived until the GF kicked it out.

      • It really does depend how its fastened to the roof /wall, the weight is irrelavant it its not secured solidly

      • also you need a high ceiling otherwise the bike is still going to be interfering with your air space at walking level.

        • Not if you lay the bike down and then fix it on the side, although maybe need a wide roof.

  • bought 4 to Sydney for $25, not sure I if will put a bike on it but should be a good solution for a small home, thx OP

  • Nice find.

  • +1

Australian houses are uniquely unsuited for this contraption.

    • +4

So you've been to all roughly 8 million of them to check? Now that's a public service…

      • +1

The standard ceiling house in a modern Australian home is 2.4M. If your bike is 1M tall, you'd have to be 1.4M tall to walk underneath It.

        So Phobaphobic is correct.

I bought a twin pack of these on ebay for $30ish delivered.

I mounted mine in the garage, and our family are all < 1.7M. We can all walk underneath the bike, but only just. I'm quite happy with mine.

If you have a bike that you don't use more than once a week, and have a good place to mount it, then grab one. (For me the rope system is too troublesome for something I'd have to use twice a day) I keep my daily rider leant up against a bench.

        • The standard ceiling house in a modern Australian home is 2.4M.

That's only the current minimum standard for a habitable room, but have you thought about the many older style homes with 10' or higher ceilings??? I think you'd agree that like you, most people will be using these in sheds & garages with much higher ceilings than 2.4m anyway dude…it's a bike, not living room furniture!

That said, as others have noted you are not constrained to either vertical mounting or use solely for bicycles; therefore, to say these devices are "uniquely unsuited" is factually incorrect. Sorry. ;)

        • +1

As well if you place these over the bonnet of your car they really only have to clear your bonnet as you would rarely be walking there. Besides, it a $5 thing, give it a go, if it works awesome, if it doesnt its hardly the end of the world

  • +3

Not sure why i bought 4 when i only have 1 folding bike. Oh well, maybe use them to threaten to hang the kids when they misbehave (when the wife is not around of course). A voice inside my head keep telling me that i will find some use for them in the future. Gotta admit the problem is getting worse now…

  • Anyone bought from Cellbikes before that can advise? It says at the checkout that it has to be signed by you.

    ===

You MUST be available to sign for your package and accept delivery: your parcel will be delivered between 9am-5pm (Standard Business hours).

NO RESPONSE to delivery will incur a card being left by the Courier.

You MUST contact the Courier within 48hrs (2 days), otherwise you package will be returned to us.

Re-delivery will incur an additional cost to you.

We suggest using your WORK address, or any address in which you will be available to sign for your package (if delivered by Courier).

    ===

So no one else but you can sign for it? plus they won't leave it at your nearest post office? Is that correct? Such a shame if that is the case. Losing many targets like myself out there.

    • No this is standard, it means that someone (anyone) has to be home otherwise you will get carded.

    • I missed delivery once (which was free) and wasn't charged for re-delivery.

    • When I have ordered from Cell in the past they have used Couriers Please, who do not have an agreement with Australia Post. If you are not home you need to arrange redelivery.

      • Yeah sorry, I was all confused with the caplocks and all and misinterpret it. I thought only ME can sign for it but it turns out anyone can at the address. Cheers!

      • +1

My shipment arrived today. 15 minutes after the courier called to see if I was home. Now thats being smart. Not sure its a CP thing or just the individual, but it makes sense to call first, saves fuel and time.

  • This would have been perfect to hang my bench saw up in my carport….if only I didn't donate it to the local Men's Shed instead….oh well, I've done a community service and saved myself even more work.

Use Coupon "THANKYOU" for $10 off orders over $50.

  • In the middle of ordering and was worried about the lack of the safe green highlight on the secure checkout page. Checked out the ABN (that was on the page) and it's listed as INVALID. Turns out the ABN was listed at 66 901 196 342 instead of 66 091…… :) All good.

  • My four arrived this morning! Excellent service CellBikes, thanks.

  • Got mine yesterday as well. Quick service!

  • OMG> Catch of the day bought all the stock and are now selling it for $9.95
