                • @1st-Amendment: you're the one saying your "data" tells us something. the burden of proof lies with you to support your argument.

                  • @altomic: I think you're talking with a professional troll. He/she always defects, brings in spurious other arguments, and does everything possible to extend the argument.

@Russ: exactly, went from some rant about "leftest" governments destroying civilisations, to the printing press, which apparently equates to winning an argument.

                        @altomic:

exactly, went from some rant about "leftest" governments destroying civilisations, to the printing press,

There was a logical connection which you've clearly missed, or deliberately avoided..
                        I've obviously over-estimated you ability to read…

which apparently equates to winning an argument.

Arguments aren't won or lost, the fact that you think this tell us everything about your cognitive ability.
Different positions are discussed with supporting data too see which ones are based on some sort of logic and reason, and which are just emotional garbage. You've made it clear where you are here. Thanks for clearing that up.

                      @Russ:

                      He/she always defects,

Lol you mean like you did here by targeting the person rather than topic being discussed? I'm sure the irony of this is lost on you…

                      brings in spurious other arguments,

Please quote where these 'other' arguments are. I read the thread and I think you just made this up in your head.
If you don't understand something I've written I'm happy to clarify…

and does everything possible to extend the argument.

You mean actually expand on the points raised rather than just out throw out off the cuff opinions then walk away like you just did?
Do you know how discussions work? They tend to involve actually discussing things rather than throwing your hands up at the first sign of an opinion that differs from your own.

I just did. Can you read? (Ironically the printing press was also invented in the West, along with the Internet which allows this very discussion were are having right now). So there's 3 huge inventions from the West that have had immeasurable improvements to humanity overall.
So that's 3 to me and 0 to you. And 3 beats 0 in case you didn't know.

Let me know when you can come up with some counter-examples, or just continue to avoid the argument like you are doing now. The deflecting is entirely expected…

    • Remember when the NSA was exploiting a Samsung smart tv vulnerability to stare into the homes and listen into the conversations of people around the world?

Good deal. Spent two days there before Covid on a return holiday trip from Korea. It is indeed an underrated holiday destination. Love the short distance between the best of what it has to offer. You can soaking in hot spring surrounded by tranquil lush mountain before diving into the busting night market for tasty cheap eats in a matter of an hour. Thanks for sharing and booked a flight there.

  • +1

Great deal! Just got back from a visit.

@IWantThatFlight any deals coming the opposite way? TPE to MEL?

    • I would like to know as well about TPE to Perth for parents to visit.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Anyone know the deal with adding check in baggage directly with Scoot after booking through a 3rd party? MyTrip are charging $182 per leg for a 20kg bag, so an extra $365. Scoot don't charge that much directly but I wonder once you book with an agent if you can add baggage directly

    • +1

You can, I booked a flight through webjet this year and I can add check in baggage after on scoot website, with a dearer price though. I added baggage allowance just a day before departure cost around $8/kg. If you add allowance when you book with scoot directly, the cost will be $4-5/kg.

      • Cool, thank you mate. $8 a kilo, that's almost what My Trip are charging :O

  • +2

Not sure how consistent Scoot is but flew them for the first time last week. First flight from Melbs was delayed for 1 hour. For the connecting flight at Changie, they announced that we had to change gates which is at another terminal 25 minutes before departure time. Had to walk 20 mins and queue up for security checks again and the flight being delayed again (of course)

My CI flight arriving 4:30am in Taipei, any tips for things to do that early or convenient places to store luggage?

    • +1

Would recommend traveling out and going to a breakfast spot, they open really early
Like the breakfast spots with egg rolls, soymilk, fried donut etc

    • +3

Also 7-11 in Taipei is a great experience. Some of the stores have seating and an amazing choice of food options. Check out Mike Chen's 7-11 Taiwan on his Strictly Dumpling YouTube channel. He also has some other great Taiwan food videos

  • Taiwan FTW

  • Can we leave the Singapore terminal !?

    • thanks Winnie

  • +1

    Taiwan numba one!!!!

  • Nice. Can't wait for more deals for mainland China!

  • -2

Why do you even want to travel there and waste 7 days in self quarantine? Nowadays you should check the quarantine rule before decide to just skip that destination.

    • +3

That's some good advice about checking qaurantine rules!

Maybe you should take it yourself? There is no quarantine period for Taiwan lol

      • -2

You'll no longer need to quarantine on arrival, but you'll need to undertake 7 days of Self-initiated Epidemic Prevention (which means taking one RAT every 2 days and wearing a mask - see 'Travel'). You're no longer required to undergo a saliva PCR test on arrival, and the 7-day Self-initiated Epidemic Prevention period can be undertaken in a private residence, provided it satisfies the criteria of "one person per room".

      • -3

Not in quarantine camp but still quarantine at your hotel, same shit different wording.

        • +1

          you are wrong.

it is not a 7 day quarantine in a hotel.

according to the Taiwan CDC (centre of disease control) it is a 7 day self monitoring of potential symptoms.

          • -1

@altomic: All the Q&A in that page clearly indicates that you are not supposed to go anywhere until 7 days Self Quarantine period finished.

            • +2

@samehada: really? you are not supposed to go anywhere until 7 days Self Quarantine period finished. ?

then I'm really confused with the mixed messages given by the following taiwan CDC guidelines -

Q8.Can I use public transportation during my self-initiated prevention period? Is there anything else I should be aware of?
A8: Yes. You can go out if you do not have any symptoms and you have a negative result from a rapid test taken within 2 days.

              and

Q10. Can I dine in a restaurant during my self-initiated prevention period?
A10: Yes. You can go out if you do not have any symptoms and you have a negative result from a rapid test taken within 2 days.

              and

Q11. Can I dine with friends, colleagues, or classmates during my self-initiated prevention period?
A11: Yes. You can go out if you do not have any symptoms and you have a negative result from a rapid test taken within 2 days.

              and

Q12. Can I travel abroad by plane during my self-initiated prevention period?
A12: Yes, you can. You can go out if you don’t have any symptoms and you have a negative result from a rapid test taken within 2 days.

you're saying that you are not supposed to go anywhere but the taiwan governments centre for disease control states that "you can" .

i don't know who to believe - You or a government body that's sole purpose is disease control

              • -1

@altomic: You should ask the stupid TW gvt who made up those rules.

The wording in itself already makes no sense. The first 2 days you are not allowed to go anywhere. Then you are asked to stay in the place with your own bathroom yet you are allowed to go anywhere. That is absolutely non sense.

  • Any Tokyo return deals

  • so many bad China takes from white people with zero knowledge of mainland China and Taiwan history. All from flight deal post.

    • Well you could like say educate and correct them or you could like just make sweeping generalisations like they are.

The choice is all up to you at the end of the day.

      • Avoid ASPI and western related media , listen to Carl zha podcast on fairly comprehensive history of Taiwan and the politics that he did with an actual Taiwanese.
