15% off $100 and $200 Celebration Gift Cards (Redeemable at Officeworks) @ Coles (Instore Only)

2130

The latest instore gift card deal at Coles, taken from the upcoming VIC Metro catalogue.

For those not aware, Celebration gift cards are a gift card exclusively sold at Coles and are functionally extremely similar to Ultimate (Visa) gift cards. These gift cards are issued by Blackhawk Network, are only sold in $100 and $200 denominations, and currently have the following participating retailers:

Barbeques Galore, City Beach, Cotton On, H&M, JD Sports, Luxury Escapes, Officeworks, T2, The Iconic.

Officeworks was only recently added to the Celebration gift card, presumably around the same time it was also added to the Ultimate gift card scheme (end of September 2022). There is plenty of old stock with the Officeworks logo missing, but those gift cards should still be redeemable at Officeworks.

For every sale of a Celebration gift card, Coles donates 2% of the gift card’s face value to charity (and I believe that charity at the moment is Beyond Blue).

Deal terms and conditions

  • Limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer.

  • Offer valid only instore at Coles Supermarkets (excluding Coles Online, Coles Express and purchases via giftcards.com.au), subject to store availability. Whilst stocks last, no rain checks.

  • Offer valid from 14/12/2022 to 20/12/2022.

  • Refer to individual gift card for terms and conditions.

If you have a question about this gift card, please refer to the Ultimate gift card section of the gift cards FAQ. I have been working on updates to the FAQ to address questions frequently raised in the ongoing 15% off Ultimate gift card deal, which is relevant for this deal, as this gift card functions extremely similarly to Ultimate (Visa) gift cards.

Completely missed it when flipping through the catalogue earlier (bottom of page 2).

Can I get Apple Gift card use this gift cards in Officeworks?

    • I'm not certain but I feel it's unlikely you would be able to buy a gift card with a gift card at OfficeWorks (most retail stores don't permit it) but someone may have personal experience with these and OfficeWorks.

      • +3

since this is a visa giftcard, I doubt they can really check. Just checkout the giftcard at the counter, when the cashier asking for payment say credit card and swipe this card, (i think) you should be just fine?

I don't have any real life experience though, please correct me if I am wrong.

    • +3

You can try if you are adventurous but it wont be easy. Officeworks is pretty strict about not allowing you to buy gift cards with gift cards. You might end up having a bunch of cards you cant get rid of:)

      • Unless there is self serve checkout.

        • Are there self serve office works?

          • @vinnychase: Yes. But you can't buy gift cards through them.

            • @JIMB0: I have never seen one here in Melbourne. Is it only available in the highly expensive city? lol.

    • +3

I haven’t used this particular card before, I would suggest buying 1 and trying it first.

My experience below relates to ultimate gift cards:
** depends on the store and staff **
I’ve been buying Apple Gift Cards with multiple ultimate cards for a while with no problems but this time around
First store: asked manager, no you can’t buy gift cards with gift cards, they shouldn’t have been doing it before
Second store: yeah no problem (2x $500, paid with 10x $100ultimate home)
Next few times, I just pick up 5x $50 or 5x $100 and ask for separate receipts. They put it through one at a time and you don’t have to ask to split the payments.
One guy saw me cycling through the cards and asked if I was paying for gift cards with gift cards, sheepishly said yea, he just said, Cool! That’s smart 😎

      YMMV

    • I usd the GC and bought iphone 11 128GB from Officeworks instore. These are giftcards..redeemable at officeworks. I bought iphone yesterday. you can buy any thing at officewworks and the GC works.

      • +2

How many celebration gift card can you use in one transaction? I want to get an iPhone too. Do they allow multiple gift cards to be used in store?

    • I just tried it, and (for me at least) the EFT was denied with the error message: "DENIED Do Not Honor"

  • +41

Thanks @WookieMonster for all the great posts and effort you have put in this year. It's very much appreciated.

  • Can I use multiple cards at once per online purchase? Sorry for the noob question. Never used these before.

    • +4

      No.

These gift cards operate on the Visa network, so you can only redeem 1x Celebration gift card per online transaction.

You also cannot redeem Officeworks or Coles Group & Myer gift cards on the Officeworks website, so there is no point trying to “convert” Celebration gift cards as a workaround.

      • OK Thanks, was thinking of buying a chair, felt good for a moment i can get 15% off ;)

        • The current ultimate home cards can do officeworks too.

        • +4

If you have an Officeworks store near you with the chair in stock, the instore checkout system will let you do split payments.

Whether Officeworks staff will let you do split payments is another question. In my experience, staff will let you, but that is not always the case.

  • +5

    Not valid at Celebrations 😜

  • Does Officeworks do prepaid recharges?

  • -1

Does officeworks usually have good deal for iphone or ipad?

    • +1

I think Amazon usually do for Apple product then you can price beat at OW

    • +4

Usually the cheapest. if not they can beat prices by 5%.

    • +2

They price beat by 5%. Much better than price matching when another shop discounts something.lower than OW.

      • Yep. Came in handy for my Pixel 7 for $711.55. Shame I didn't have discounted gift cards then. Another $105 off would have been AWESOME!

        • Thanks for the tip, I just picked up a Pixel 7 for $606.55. It took a bit to convince them to price-match Telstra.

          • +1

@ollie1938: Good for you. I'm glad someone scored - twice Certainly a bargain. grumble grumble, it wasn't me grumble. lol

  • Can these be added to a mobile wallet?

    • +1

      The website says it can.

I also presume you can add these to a mobile wallet, because Celebration gift cards are functionally an Ultimate (Visa) gift card sold exclusively at Coles.

I have not actually tried this myself, because I have never actually bought one before…

  • can multiple of these be used per transaction to buy say a macbook etc at Officeworks ? I mean at their physical store thanks.

    • +4

some managers can be an ass and not allowing split payment . I have no idea why

      • That will be rather silly not splitting payment for a product purchase.

    • +1

As it’s a visa it should be fine, but max seems to be $1000 per “customer”.

      • is this upto the manager or an actual policy? could you use these to order over the phone as well ?

        • That’s to purchase from Coles. Hopefully someone more experienced knows.

But the other comment is a little concerning that managers might interfere. Again, it’s not clear why they would?

          • @WhyAmICommenting: If you don't show them the card, how do they know what card you're paying with?

            • @ATangk: They might notice after 5 cards (or 10 if you can get them, for example).

  • -1

O wise one, what is the gift card deal this week for Woolworths?

  • +2

I may be wrong, but I believe you earn FlyBuys on these at Coles, and then again at Officeworks - so that's another nice little kicker.

    • -2

You don't earn fly buys on gift cards the last time I tried.

      • +1

I have received flybuys when buying the Coles Mastercard GC many times.

        • Hmm maybe it was when I tried to use a gift card at coles to pay for something.

One or the other. Just remember i was denied at the checkout.

          • +1

@serpserpserp: I received standard Flybuys points for third-party gift cards I purchased at Coles yesterday.

However, you are sort of correct, because you do not earn any Flybuys points when purchasing a gift card issued by Coles Group (e.g. Coles gift card, Coles Group & Myer gift card, Officeworks gift card) at Coles.

  • So just to confirm I can use $1000 worth (5x cards limited) in any selected store, or $200 (1x card) online?

    • +2

I’m not 100% sure, because the webpage for the Celebration gift card does not say how a participating retailer accepts a Celebration gift card, but I am relying on the Ultimate gift card website, as Celebration gift cards are functionally just an Ultimate gift card exclusively sold at Coles.

It looks like H&M, JD Sports and Luxury Escapes does not accept Celebration gift cards online, although I think you can exchange a Celebration gift card for an H&M or Luxury Escapes gift card.

In terms of in-store transactions, it depends on whether the participating retailer can (and is willing to) do split payments across multiple Visa cards.

  • Can someone tell me how does it work when the value of the gift card is less than the item cost? Can I pay the difference with my debit card if I buy online?

    • It doesn't work

      • What about in store?

        • +1

Already discussed in above comments. In short - maybe, maybe not. Up to you to take the risk in exchange for a 15% discount.

  • I want to get this, to fund a new iPhone. Grab these GC, also find something online and price beat 5% at OFFICEWORKS. Will this work?

    • +1

I used 20 ultimate home plus the remainder on my own card to purchase an iPhone but no price beat.

      • So you used only one of this card?

    • +1

So taking the Iphone 14 128GB at $1397 at officeworks, with 15% off that's $1,187.45 which I think is lowest so far?

  • +1

I assumed this was already on. The coles nearby had the little tickets above these cards with this promo and all the $100 and $200 were gone.

    • The current promotion was for Ultimate Gift Cards (not including the variable value).

Had funny experience while looking for this card. I went to Coles nearby last Friday (10/12/2022) and only $30 and variable value cards available. Thought I was too late, but then when I about to check out (but still able to can see the gift card shelf) I saw someone got these cards behind other gift cards - it seems this person know that there were plenty of Ultimate Gift Cards available there. So I went back and check - and found buch of these cards randomly (or purposedly?) placed not in it's proper place.

Lesson learned: try to find these cards behind other gift cards. You never know what you will find there :D

  • What kind giftcard can this one convert to?

  • -1

can i use $400 coles gift card to buy this gift card?

    • +1

I have done this many times but depends on the store and staff. It is against policy so depends on if it's enforced. Best to do it at self-checkout and maybe when busy so that the operator does not hang around after they authorise the transaction. Young casuals are best as they may not know the policy or do not care.

    • +1

The gift card has to cover the full amount of the purchase. I.e. if you have $200 balance in the coles gift card, you can get a $200 celebration card + less or exactly $30.00 worth of stuff.

  • +2

I have a phone ready for collection at Officeworks. Do you reckon they would return the card payment and allow me to pay with gift cards?

I would save $135 if they did but don't want left with $900 of gift cards if it's unlikely.

    • yes

    • did it work? I want to buy an iPhone but it's only available online? I was thinking of ordering click and collect online and make a refund in store, then pay again with the gift card.

  • Can you pay for an apple gift card at officeworks online using these cards? (with exact denomination)

  • -1

If anyone can confirm for certain wether or not the old versions work at officeworks that would be great. As we all know, there's been huge dramas with the shitty old versions of the ultimate cards which resulted in losses for countless customers.

    • Same …. I’m here at coles but also scared too, no logo on office works

      • Yep they've got heaps of stock of the old one. Literally a whole rack full. None of the new one with officeworks on it.

  • Works 100% with old printed cards as the site has allowed Officeworks. You can also change it online to a Officework e-gift card.
Definitely works as I just used 2x $200 old printed cards at Officeworks :)

    • Nice Thanks…. =)

    • The site allowed jbhifi on the him cards, but that didn't stop the old versions from not working.

    • +3

WARNING: JUST CALLED BLACKHAWK NETWORK AND THEY CONFIRMED THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS A LIE. THE OLD VERSION WITHOUT THE OFFICEWORKS LOGO DOES NOT WORK AT OFFICEWORKS. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

      • +1

If that is the case, This needs to be Pinned URGENTLY

      • +1

If you have actually tried adding an old design card to your mobile wallet, you will see the Officeworks logo.
Asking the BH call centre about how their cards work is pretty useless.

        • And @truetypezk is correct. as i added my leftover card ($38) left on it to Apple Wallet and it does show OfficeWorks.

      • +3

worked with mine and a friend did this a couple of hours after me with 5x 200 cards.. both time there was NO officeworks logo.. i still have the card here if you need proof

      • This is false. Just bought an IPad Pro with 9x GC

      • +3

I’m not sure how much you have dealt with Blackhawk Network customer service reps over the phone or email, but I never ever trust what they say to me, because the story changes whenever you speak to a different staff member.

Two examples to illustrate my point.

        1. The shenanigans I had to go through to understand whether there are two versions of the Swap Celebration gift card.

I contacted Blackhawk Network many months ago to understand whether two versions of the Swap Celebration gift card exists, because I noticed that the version I bought at Woolworths featured eBay, but the version being sold on Amazon AU did not feature eBay. A simple question, right?

I sent an email enquiry and had three different reps answer it:

        • The first rep told me to check the relevant gift card website, as that will show the latest list of participating retailers. I responded saying that is only helpful if I already purchased the Swap gift card, but I wanted to see a list of participating retailers on a Swap gift card without having to purchase a gift card, similar to how the Ultimate gift card website works.

        • The second rep told me essentially the same information as the first rep, but then also said that only one version existed. I replied back saying that response was unhelpful.

        • The third rep (who seemed to me a more senior person) confirmed there were multiple different versions of the Swap Celebration gift cards sold at different retailers, and eBay is definitely not on the version sold on Amazon AU.

The third rep was actually correct, as someone found out the hard way.

        2. It might or might not be possible to get Blackhawk Network to swap an EFTPOS version of an Ultimate gift card with a Visa version of an Ultimate gift card.

Although the poster of this forum post said you can get Blackhawk Network to exchange the EFTPOS version of an Ultimate gift card recently purchased at Coles to a Visa version of the same type of Ultimate gift card, someone else has pointed out the different stories different Blackhawk Network reps are telling them.

Oh, and if you were wondering, I used a Coles Celebration gift card with no Officeworks logo on it at Officeworks today and had no problems redeeming it.

    • @Snappa2000
I've just been on the website https://exchangecelebration.com.au/faqs
seems that you can't combine say 2x200 physical for one 400 egift.
did you just convert 2x200 physical to 2x200 egift?
      .

      • No, I mentioned you can convert or carve up the one card, not combine… sorry if that was taken the wrong way.

I walked into OfficeWorks after buying 2x 200 old, printed cards and used them with no problems at all

  • Can you purchase these with a prepaid visa giftcard?

  • Iphone 14 Pro Max 128gb Gold currently in stock only,,,,$1747 the cheapest is at Officeworks, trying to somewhere where i can use price beat…any hunters…..can find anywhere else

  • +2

Looks like the option to exchange for officworks egiftcard on https://exchangecelebration.com.au/ is not there, unless i'm missing something.

  • Can you use coles gift cards to buy these?

    • Answered above.

    • +1

This question keeps popping up every now and then. You really should learn to use Google or Ozbargain site search function instead.

      • But specifically, I wonder if I have "grocery" coles egift card, can I use it to buy?

        • +1

          Nope.

If you swipe or scan a Coles Groceries (or Coles Groceries & Returns) gift card when you are trying to purchase any gift card at Coles, you will get an Invalid Product Mix error on the EFTPOS terminal.

  • Sorry lads it’s been a busy work day so missed that (though seems inconclusive)

  • Can confirm the old card with no OW logo does work.

Just bought something on it and returned immediately which lead to accidentally converting total amount to OW GC.

    Enjoy

  • Can you use this to buy apple gift cards online at officeworks website?

  • Does anyone know the gift card limitation per purchase if I use ultimate kids gift cards?

    • +2

      Where? Coles? Officeworks?

What are you trying to purchase?

      • I want to purchase a kindle scribe which is $549 at officework in store and I bought a lot of ultimate kids gift cards at Coles. And, I went to one officework today, they said the limitation of purchase is five. But I heard someone else use more than five gift cards to buy something in one transaction in store. Don't know what to do.

        • +3

I don’t think anyone knows what the limit really is for the number of cards you can use in one transaction.

Someone said they used 9 cards in one transaction today.

Having said that, I went to an Officeworks at lunchtime today, and when I asked the checkout person whether I could do split payments, the checkout person said no so emphatically that I did not dare argue back!

I would go back to the Officeworks store (or even a different one) and see whether you can find a staff member who is more willing to do split payments.

          • +2

@WookieMonster: Thank you so much! Appreciate!

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Ive used 4x Home today bought airpod prod at OW, and 3xHOME for apple gc, all via physical swipes instore, no question asked, but YMMV

            • @li1123k: So you used these gift cards to buy apple gcs at OW?

              • @squarepants: Yes, I did in both OW and JB this week, no staff rejected it yet.
