5410

Hey All long time user.

Thought i would share this sony xm5 deal at JB HiFi, seems too good to be true. Proabably a pricing error with their deal of the xm4 but worth a shot/try your luck. Make sure to use the discount code.
Unfortunately I bought mine full retail price :( earlier last week. So i have not tried.

Have put the order through for click and collect, fingers crossed they honour it!

    • Its not price error. I got email that said its one day deai

      • Someone said that about the g82 but it was corrected mid deal. So you never really know. All that matters is people get the headphones at this price. Price error or not.

    • +2

Can confirm. Just picked mine up.

  • +2

I just ordered the QC45 -_- ordered this and sent a cancel request for the Bose's and if it doesn't will return!

    • how much did you paid for qc45?

      • they were 310 including shipping with the JB coupon. Just saw JB HI FI have a change of mind return policy so i am relieved! Hoping to get the order cancelled before shipping as returns are a hassle.

        • +3

How do you rate between the three headphones?
          Any personal preferences?

          XM5 - touchpad, non-folding ears
          XM4 - touchpad, folding ears
          QC45 - buttons, folding ears

          • +7

@Kangal: to be fare actual buttons are way better than touchpads

            • +2

@Grumpy Braincells: Disagree, XM5 touchpads work beautifully and can do much more via gestures/swipes etc

            • +2

              @Grumpy Braincells: +1

It doesn't matter if you have a sit-at-the-desk office job or just walk on the street. But in weather or wearing a hoodie, doing some exercise or even vigorous cleaning run at home where your arm/shoulder come in contact with the device is a major pain.

I dont think I'll be going back to touch interface on headphones and have switched off the touch on my Galaxy pods as well.

Worst idea ever was JBL Endurance Dive - headphones for swimming with a touch interface 🤦🤦‍♂️

            • +1

@Grumpy Braincells: yeah i preferred buttons overall.. but the touch system on the soundpeats trueair 2s isn't annoying at all compared to others.. i think it uses different technology/IQ to other systems. (my point being.. perhaps not all touch systems are annoying.. maybe).

          • @Kangal: I went from the OG Sony MDR-1000X (which were replaced with the XM2) to the XM5, the non-folding ears sucks for travel, they don't look much bigger, but they sure do take up more room in your bag.
touchpad is fine, I generally turn them off..
I do find the XM5's to be tighter and not as comfortable.. Kinda wish i went the XM4's tbh

            • +2

@BlasterBoy: Coming from the XM4 I find the Bose far more comfortable. I do have a Giant head however.

              • @Scrobo: yeah the bose are better for my big ears/noggin..

  • +1

    Gave it a shot!

  • +1

why do you think its pricing error . they wrote it 160 savings!!

    • +1

Same price as XM4 and only black is discounted like Galaxy Buds pro 2.deal

    • +2

      Websites calculate that automatically.

      • ow ok

  • +1

    Impulse bought!

  • Is this better or xm4 earbuds?

  • +3

$300 with the 15% off gift card

    • Hi

Did you happen to use the ultimate gift cards ?
I bought some but struggling to redeem them online..

      • +1

buy jb gift card in store then you can use it online

      • +1

Maybe buy first and cancel it when you picking up and pay by gift card.

        • +2

price will change at that time

      • +1

need to enter expiry as 12/2029 for UGC. and the card number goes in the 'credit card' section. I think you can enter whatever you want for 'name on card'. has to cover the full amount of purchase (no split payment option unless you go instore)

    • How 15% off?

  • Picked up a pair as well, let’s see.

    • fwiw - arrived today

  • Thanks OP !!

  • yesterday got my hopes high for xgimi today this!! whats going with the stores

  • thanks just picked up a pair

  • +43

Not sure if I need it so bought a pair to be safe

    • +7

it is because people like you and me why the interest rates are so high…dang it

      • The covid lockdowns and money printing the last two years is to blame.

But we are not helping either.

    • I don't need it as I already have Bose 700. I still buy a pair anyway.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

"Unfortunately I bought mine full retail price :( earlier last week. So i have not tried."

Get this one right now from JB and return back the one that you going to get from JB as the one you'll bought from them for a refund.

    • +1

Thanks but I dont think JB HIFI will accept the return as per their policy on headphones as i have already used them.

What is JB Hi-Fi's returns policy on earphones and headphones?
Due to health and hygiene reasons, earphones and headphones can only be returned for a full refund if they are unopened within 30 days of purchase and are completely sealed or faulty.

For this reason, if you have changed your mind about your purchase, earphones or headphones must be completely unopened and unused to receive a refund.

You buy these ones, then return back these one - unopened, but using your old invoice from last week.

        • +1

          Exactly!!!

Get this brand new one and return it with the invoice that you had paid full retail price.

        • +5

Wow didnt think of that!. Love ozbargainers lol
Just did, hope it goes through for everyone.

          • +1

@Saver-au: They will scan both the invoice and item and it will not match. Tried before

        • +1

Wonder would serial number be an issue, if the former shop kept the record of SN, no way to swap it with unmatched product ..?!

        • +1

Don’t the have any serial number or other device specific identifier on the invoice?

      • I think what they are saying is buy this now for $350.10, then return them unopened using the receipt from your full price purchase for a refund of $xxx.xx (however much you bought the first pair at full price for).

          • @MaxHashrate: Man I feel that we are truly not a first world country anymore. This much effort for $100 is a bit sad.

            • +2

@fuzor: $100 for 15mins is fine. How much do u make an hour? Lmao

              • +3

@MaxHashrate: I didn’t neg you but what you did is also wrong. They probably let you do it knowing exactly what’s going on. They’re a big business so provides the service that gets abused.
And I doubt this was just 15 minutes of time.

                • @fuzor: It really is less than 15 min. U take the item (obviously had to be something they sell at bunnings) and say u don't have receipt. They take ur id and that is it. It's even easier when u are just exchanging for other time.

Well tell that to bunnings who profits big time from their "price beat" guarantee but will try anyway to not pricebeat just because an item has some voucher code or on some kind of clearance. I would have bought from them at the start if they actually did have the lowest prices.

            • @fuzor: Well excuse us money bags. $100 is a fair chunk of groceries already for many of the plebs here.

          • @MaxHashrate: @MaxHashrate do you mean:

1] you had already bought an item.. saw it $100 cheaper on ebay.. then did the ole kansas city shuffle.

2] you bought an item on ebay, took it to bunnings, did a 'receiptless refund' using drivers license.

1 is just fine in my opinion.. I mean they offer to pricebeat by 10% anyway.. so technically they owe YOU money.

2 could be considered fraud.. and also takes more of your time.. so I wouldn't chose this route.. or admit to it at bbq's.. let alone online. :) Maybe the negs thought you meant #2..

and apparently warren buffet is known to pay for cheeseburgers with coupons.. so i think even he'd consider #1 at the very least.

            • @jinkerjinx: It was more the thing I bought didn't fit my bathroom so instead of refunding it on ebay I just went to bunnings and got and exchange.

Bunnings price match is bs sometimes, they try to weasle out any chance they get. If it was truly price match then I wouldnt have bought on ebay the first place n got it from them. They totally deserve it.

              • @MaxHashrate: yeh i don't have any bunnings love.. a monopolistic rort that thieves off everyone with slimy tactics suppressing any true competition..

    • +2

I was recently told by a JB employee when buying a portable aircon.. that if it goes on sale in the next month come back and they'll refund the diff.. prob sales BS but might be worth asking?

      • Not sure about 1 month but come back within 2 weeks and they will refund the price difference. Guaranteed.

  • Just bought it, upgrading from the version 2 or 3, can’t remember which I have now, have had them forever.

  • +1

I've used my xm4s pretty much all day every day for the past 2+ years. The noise cancellation helps me concentrate at work.
Unfortunately when I replaced the Ear cushions last month I must have broken something. They started popping and producing horrendous feedback.
This is a little disappointing as I was expecting better build quality than that. Hopefully the xm5s are built better, but I can live with it if I have to replace them in 2024

    • +1

I have the XM3s and had this issue with the popping. This will sound ridiculous (I thought it was too when I read it online the first time) but I gave the outside of the earcups a big whack and it solved the issue. I've had the popping twice and this method has fixed them both times. Has been a while since I've experienced it now.

      • +1

I've had the same issue and it just keeps coming back. I've read some people had luck with taking it apart and cleaning the mic but I'll leave that as a last resort. Sony's repairer wants $410 to fix it but I bought it at $380 with a price match on Dec 2020, and as a bonus they said they will void my warranty based on having some tiny pieces of hair inside ("entry of foreign object"), which they blamed as the cause of the issue. I removed every last hair and it's still happening and only getting worse, so I'm following some advice to go through fair trading hoping for a better result.

Shame this seems like such a common issue but they wont address it. I've even seen one dude comment that he's permanently damaged his hearing because of that loud feedback, and that's believable because that sound is scarily painful.
I've had to just avoid using ANC for now and it's fine, but when it first turns on and defaults to ANC I have to be ready to rip them off my head because the stupid thing won't let me switch until the voice finishes telling me it's connected.

  • Have the XM3 and find them a little bit quiet even when turned all the way up. Will these be slightly louder you think?

    • +4

You need to get the Sony Headphones app and tune the volume/frequencies to your liking. I had the same issue until I used the app, and then I was able to make them sound great!

If you've already tried that then your hearing might be going :/

      • What’s your recommended settings? Not a headphone guy and the XM3’s were my first pair in a decade. Usually just use earbuds at around 60 to 70% volume and sounds fine for my casual use

    • They are plenty loud enough, you have damaged hearing my guy. Blasting it even louder will not help that.

  • +3

Amazing price, if I didn’t get my XM4’s for ~280 I’d pounce on them

    • This is actually JB possible price error price, not Amazon 😉

  • Just copped. Hopefully it gets honoured.

  • +1

Amazing deal, I did get an order confirmation so we’ll see what happens..

  • +8

Salesman's like "What up, what's your budget?"
And I'm like "Honestly, I don't know nothing about headphones"
He said "I got the one for you, follow me"
    Ooh, it's too real..

    • +1

      $350? That's a hell of a deal!

  • Bought it with no need for it 😉

Don't waste your money, watch the xm5 review and make the decision

    • But when the xm4 and xm5 are the same price you might aswell get the free upgrade for a historically low price?

      • -1

        What upgrade? Seen the video?

      • +1

It's not an upgrade, and it can't fold flat for storing in a bag / slip pocket/ drawer like the older version.

  • Dang, big if true
Not too unbelievable it will get through though if tggc can do at 389 without breaking a sweat

    • How do you go about doing this? I can’t see it on the TGGC site at all.

      • +1

        email or call

ymmv but you do need to be a member from what i understand

        • Yeah I’m a member. Never tried asking for something not listed on the site though so might give it a go.

          Thanks!

  • +6

    I don't need it,
    I don't need it,
    I Don't need it….

    • +3

same here… the temptation is huge…

      • I have a perfectly fine working pair of Plantronics headphones but they're a couple years old now sooooo..
        Maybe I should

        • I have a Bose QC 35 which is still working perfectly fine… :( I wish it died now, so I have a reason to purchase this… haha

          • +2

@MaOptAus: I'm going to regret this in the morning but im going to pull the trigger

          • @MaOptAus: Me too mate, honestly they're so good I'll keep waiting on their death!

    • I had the same thought process about 6 months ago and ended up with a pair of XM4s. I think I've used them twice.

Now facing the same dilemma, although I'd likely sell the XM4s.

  • +1

So tempting but the case seems too chunky since the headphones don't fold up 😖

  • bought one.. thanks op
