what is the price difference?
There are some rumours about iPads being able to use full mac OS in future, but the rumours mention only from M2 onwards. Could be started by apple to make people buy the new ipad though…
You'd think by now they could run everything off a phone. Just get a keyboard and monitor. Could be done if the software would do it.
The competition has been doing this since forever. lol
By the time Apple implemented a such feature you could pick up an iPad pro with m3 or m4. Just sell your iPad m1 or just it as a video player on your bed. Unless you need Apple pen hovering there's not much reason to get an M2 iPad pro imo.

Aren't they? They do have the horsepower of a computer. Pretty much add a bluetooth keyboard and you have a laptop. A lot of money if you only use it for looking up recipes or facebook.
You have Macbook M1 Air for that. Not spend more money on KB mouse etc. But I do see rich idiots buying these for just what you said. Recipes and facebook.
Neither option is perfect. The MacBook Air lacks the touchscreen which could make it a useful tablet device.
@choofa: you wouldn't want to use the macbook air as a tablet even if it has a touch screen.
it would be heavy and cumbersome to use with the keyboard permanently attached.
issue here is you cant remotely take full advantage of that specs with ipadOS, and the rumoured macOS for ipad is not dropping anytime soon (or if its guranteed to come in the first place) to make this a justifiable purchase for most people
Pity that the software is the limiting factor though. The hardware is crazy powerful, the screen is simply amazing, speakers are superb… and the operating system is holding everything back.
what do you want to do the macOS that is limited on the ipadOS?
Each has the own strengths and weakness.
the downside of MacOS appstore is it has less games and apps than the iPad store.
The keyboard is worse - $489! For a Bluetooth keyboard! Ridiculous.
that's cos of apples greedy pricing.
if you in the apple ecosystem and want to more apple made products/accessories
expect to give lots more money.
Brought a modem from this eBay seller, having issue with the modem, contacted the seller 3 times over 2 weeks but still no reply or response. Not sure if this is their normal response time or after sale standards.
To anyone looking for an iPad Pro. Go for the M1. You can find it on decent deals and there is no apparent difference between the iPad from last year.
