Wow tvs are becoming incredibly cheap.. I was eyeing this one at double the price last year

    • +2

Must be a huge oversupply keep seeing so many deals and am think I should 'accidentally' lightly tap my current one with a hammer.

    • +1

      Cheap tvs are always cheap.

      • +1

A good deal on this exact TV was $400 more last year. If you thought just because it isn't an LG OLED that it would always be cheap, where have you been these past 2-3 years

  • Anyone have this one? Any good? I was eyeing the Hisense A7HAU - wondering how that one compares with the TCL

    • +1

Make sure you budget in for a Shield or Apple TV if you get a Hisense.

    • This is a step above the A7

    • +1

      I have the 55 inch c727.

Picture is amazing, but the interface is extremely laggy. For the price I could deal with this- what I can’t deal with are the glitchy audio sync issues I have been getting for months. Effectively audio is out of sync with the picture on playback of media from apps (YouTube netflix etc). Soft and hard resets don’t fix this.

Having done some research perhaps I got unlucky, but it’s clear to me that the software is not where it should be for these TVs- which is a shame because it is great value at this price.

      • Bought my 65" C727 in July, I don't find its Google TV interface laggy and there is no noticeable audio sync issue with YouTube or Netflix.

      • My 75 c727 is fine after 1 year use, it’s a bit laggy (0.5 seconds) sometimes only, restart the TV always fix it. Haven’t got audio issue neither, I will call the support for warranty before it’s expired.

  • +11

$796 of problems, laggy interface, no support , USB updates….

    • +3

Yep, if you’re into waiting 30-60 seconds for the TV’s OS to boot each time you turn on the TV….

Was really interested in TCLs years ago then I tried the BIL’s one and wow… my old Win 98 PC booted faster.

      • +4

Have a couple year old TCL P615 that turns on almost immediately once fast start is turned on (or whatever it's called)

        • I've got an old tcl that takes a long time, and a newer that is instant. Yep, it's about eco or fast start.

        • +1

Can these TVs be connected as screen-only without waiting for "Smart" OS boot

          • +2

@UsernameChecksIn: I wish my dumb smart LG and Samsungs would do this.

Awful software, UX, terrible privacy controls. TVs just get more features, and worse in quality.

        • +1

it actually never turns off in this mode. ie "fast start"

      • +6

Did you enable fast start? Even my old Android TCL boots instantly with fast start.

        • Agree. I have a TCL that I bought about two years ago. I use it as a 4k monitor in my study and it turns on in a few seconds (as long as you don't turn it off at the wall). Like all smart TV's now, if you completely remove the power then the internal computer shuts down and has to do a full boot when you turn it back on.

      • +1

nodsnods…. my aunt's nephew's sister's roommate had a 25" bigscreen B&W HMV like that in 1976…. ridiculous thing! Took nearly as long as their betamax!

      • +1

Bought a TCL C735 a few months ago - starts up instantly.

      • Bought a TCL a month ago. Initial boot takes 30-40 seconds, but it's instant in standby (which is most of the time). Occassionly I'll do a full shut down but ultimately not a huge inconvenience.

      • +1

That's only from power disconnect, if its keep plugged in like normal, it turns on instantly.

        It's an excellent TV.

      • Android TV boots up the same way as a phone. Takes between 30-60 seconds. That's normal. If you want to have it boot up instantly the don't turned off by holding the power button. Just press the power button and it will turned off the screen. It is similar to Amazon's FireStick. It goes to sleep rather than completely shut down.

    • +2

Get a Chromecast. Every smart TV is gonna get laggy.

      • Wow really , the POS is laggy straight out of the box , USB updates ? Seriously ..

      • +1

I have 2 Sonys. Didn’t really enjoy them, needed to reset OS a few times a year. Keep asking to login to google, WiFi connection issues…
I also have 4 Hisense TVs at work, only plays YouTube and Netflix, no problem at all.

        • All Sonys have had instant wake and fast response times via Bluetooth remotes since 2020.

        • +1

They should make that Google rubbish optional. I had a Sony TV that had constant problems and eventually the os just corrupted itself and the tv was completely unusable.
I'd much rather a 'dumb' tv and connect an Amazon stick or NVIDIA shield tv.

    • +5

Buy it for the screen and grab a Chromecast

    • +1

i have the 75 inch version of the TV, the OS takes maybe 1 minute to boot up however if you are running a google TV or Apple TV in my case, the tv boots up in under 5 seconds, just make sure you have the input selected HDMI1 before you turn off the TV.

Other than that ive never had any problems with the TV.

      • Takes about 2 or 3 seconds to turned it on if you didn't fully shut it down by holding the power button.

    • I have updated my tv over wifi for a years on 75 c727, are you sure you got the same tv?

  • +3

Lose the Android TV and drop $50 from the price and you've got a deal.

  • +3

This seems a decent deal. You buy it for the screen, not the OS.

But, on the chance you don't have a Shield or Chromecast you have the full Android TV product to use, even if slow.

Definitely best to pair this with a device, however for a 65" 4K screen it's bloody cheap.

    Deal for mine.

  • great unit especially at that price. Full Array. great picture. Though yes plug in a GoogleTV adapter. Absolute bargain.

  • Pair with Chromecast or fire stick?

  • Someone has been forgetting tags

    Decent drop since $1195
TCL 65" C727 4K QLED Full Array Android TV $1195 + Delivery (Free C&C) @ The Good Guys

  • Do people have a problem with android TV or just this TV is poor implementation of it? I have two Sony Android TVs and I love them. Operating system is great!

    • +1

It takes a few seconds to start up from Off, but near-instant if in Standaby/Sleep. May find that Prime Video isn't available (can be sideloaded though) but this one mentions it has it.
Personally, it goes down very well in my house as being consistent on all TVs and easy for everyone to use.

My TCL does do some weird thing every now and then where it wakes itself from sleep at around 3am, full pic and sound, and then displays that it will shutdown soon. Maybe waking itself for a software update or something. And only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

Single best thing about my TCL that I didn't know until it arrived is that it came with 2 remote controls. A full one and a cut-down one. One for misso, one for me. Means every day when she loses hers that it's her problem, not mine.

    • Poor implementations. Usually because they don't spec the internals well at all, I think my TCL only has 8GB of storage which is barely enough to even hold all the streaming apps. On top of that they have slow processors which just make entire experience a mess.

People will still buy them because all they see is a good looking screen and don't think to consider the user experience.

      • +2

I have a tcl purchased 2 years ago. It had prime loaded already and i have a huge amount of apps installed with no issue. Its also smooth and fast. I think people just complain for the sake of it

        • Was yours top of the line? Mine was ~$600 and has been crap even after numerous resets.

          • @Void: Probably mid range. Paid around $600ish.

  • I'm not sure if id buy a cheap TV again, but hopefully it brings down quality brands.

    • Did you have a bad experience with a cheap tv?

  • +3

Everyday I regret ever purchasing a TCL tv. Mine is 3yo QLED with Android tv. The software is so jank. Constant restarts to make things work. Then they made the hardware so reliable that it never actually dies so I can't justify to replace it. Buy this tv if you enjoy being tortured.

    • Lol that's why i stay away from the China brands.. imagine being frustrated every time you turn on the tv … if it were me, the remote will be through the tv already

Stick with Korean or Japanese, mine are still getting updates on the regular

      • Which brand you recommend?

        • +3

Just the usual, sammy, lg and panasonic when they existed here.

When i look at the hisense or tcl in the shop, I'm not impressed.

        • +4

Get a TCL Google TV with Mini LED display. You won't be disappointed. OS is excellent. Processor is snappy. Plus 3 year warranty, much better than Samsung's or LGs 1 year. So many of the big brand components are made in or assembled in China anyway.

Side note: 1 year warranty for a product worth $1,000+ is pathetic really. 10y warranty on most dishwashers and fridges.

    • Try what I did for my Eko tv. Setup wolf launcher, disable the android tv launcher. You’ll notice a lot less freezing, app issues and a lot less restarts required

I persisted with the rolled back version of android tv which didn't have ads and even the apps only view before this but both failed to beat wolftv launcher.

Android tv with its half page suggestions (ads) constant polling of internet to update tiles and overall interface is just too slow for the type of hardware they chuck in some smart tvs.

You could also block the urls google uses to serve its "ads aka suggestions" if you have a pihole too.

      • +1

To make it somewhat functional, I have turned off wifi and connected a Chromecast. The less "smart" things it tries to do, the better.

        • Yep your not wrong about that the less smart things it tries to do the better.

The experience between stock android tv with google launcher and wolf launcher which is just an apps only launcher is night and day on my eko tv.

Though the limited system memory I suspect does mean it needs a reboot or a force close app now and again as opposed to daily or weekly.

Saved me having to use a google tv on it as well though your solution isnt a bad one either.

    • +1

The OS and processors in Smart TVs are always getting better and more than likely quite a bit snappier than 3y ago.
3 year warranty on TCL is the best in the business. Have you reached out to TCL about the software issues?
      Tried a firmware update?

      • Yep, did all the firmware updates. Had the main board replaced under warranty. It's just a POS. There is no fixing it. My soul was crushed by the first RMA process that I didn't go in for a second.

  • Damn, I'd buy it if I wasn't overseas. No one is home to receive it.

    • +5

      I'll receive it for you.

      • +6

You're very kind, thank you. Let's do it. What's your credit card number?

    • +1

You can schedule delivery time for when you are back

  • +5

Bought this for under $1000 earlier this year, I have a Chromecast with Google TV as well a Chromecast Ultra, but I am happy to use the TV's built-in Google TV as I find it decent and not that slow. I don't know why so many people feel like watching TV is a race, needing to start up and go between options in lightning speed, watching TV should be a relaxing experience and this TV's interface does fine.

    • I don't know why so many people feel like watching TV is a race, needing to start up and go between options in lightning speed, watching TV should be a relaxing experience and this TV's interface does fine

      Not a Tesla driver then?

  • would they do this price in store ? so you can stack it with Ultimate GCs

    • What did they say when you called them?

      • +1

I did call Bankstown store in the morning and they said it wasn't available in-store. Came in anyway in the afternoon and a different person OK'd it. So I used a bunch of Ultimate GCs from Coles/Woolies.. and it's all done for $796.

        • Nice!

  • +1

    I have 75 inch C727 over a year,
    brilliant picture quality
    decent sound
Didn’t time the startup time, maybe ~5 seconds if quick start is enabled, ~20 seconds without quick start
Android TV is fine for me, OS can be a bit laggy sometimes, but nothing serious as once show’s starts never lag (or else I would’ve purchased so many special on fire or googles tv)
Viewing angles isn’t great, I sit around 2.5-3m away from TV, I will say outside the middle 5 seats the colour start to washout.
There are 2 tv stands widths to choose from, which is a plus for some people.

    • +1

The picture quality is not brilliant, it's average at best , when you put similar sets next to it from LG Sony samsung the picture looks terrible

      • +6

I have compared cheapest tv from LG, Sony, Samsung (my parents got a cheapest Sony which cost more than this last year). This is better, you need to pay a lot more for Sony LG Samsung to get this picture quality. Tell me exactly which 65 inch TV from LG, Sony and Samsung has better quality and better prices? You won’t compare quality for 20k cars and 40k cars, 2k pc and 4K pc, why would you do it for tv?

        • No I'm comparing the cheaper range of Sony LG Samsung , tcl are cheap rubbish , it's just how it is….

          • +1

@Retchey: $796 for 65 inch? Any examples or link? My mum got a low end Sony (still more expensive than this special c727), pictures quality not that great. Even my mum agree c727 has better pictures, but she still not regret cause she like Sony brand (her previous tvs all Sony).

          • +4

@Retchey: Every brand has plenty of very average to crap models any discerning consumer should avoid. Every brand. That is not to say they all as good or bad as another, but that brands dont mean squat, you have to know which are actually good models, which are good value models, and which are best avoided. Simply saying TCL are cheap rubbish is incredibly silly and shows total ignorance of what is a constantly changing technology and product landscape across the brands. What was true 5 years ago or even 3 years ago can be very different now, and different again next year.

  • What does 100 CMR mean. Another post says the Clear Motion isnt the refresh rate. The salesperson says it is?

    • +1

      It's a 60hz panel.

      • So what exactly osciallates at 100 times a second, if not the panel?

        • +1

          Your dollars

  • +1

Still waiting for the C835 65" to drop sub 1.3k again. Should've bought it on last click frenzy deal..

    • This. The advantages of having a panel with VRR and higher refresh rate make it a no brainer for those with current gen consoles /PCs.

    • Same. I've given up, got this for the olds instead. They probably wouldn't appreciate the difference that much anyway.

  • Has anybody bought from TGG today? How long did it take to receive the confirmation email?

My mate bought this TV this morning and accidentally closed the window immediately after pressing the final payment button. He hasn't received the confirmation email yet and is worrying he'll miss out on the deal.

    • +1

Just ordered this and received the confirmation email straight away. Hope that helps!

      • Thanks! I'll get him to call them up.

      • He's been messed around and placed on hold for the past 3 hrs…

  • +1

Stay away from TCL not worth it. Had one and very buggy/slow UI

Changes to a Hisense with a Firestick as well, much better quality and reliability

    • Plug a firestick or googletv into anything and it'll improve it significantly. Hisense have no shortage of trash models these days (we are a back water dumping ground and dont get the same models they release in US). Both Hisense and TCL have some decent models, arguably TCL more at the moment. I own 2 Hisense TVs but i wouldnt touch them with a bar of soap these days since these days they treat our market with total contempt.

  • +1

Don’t forget Storecash, I think if spend above $800, you would get a $70 TGG store credit. Does anyone know if the Storecash promo is limited to one per customer? I took advantage of the promo last month so not sure if I would still qualify for this month. Couldn’t see anything in the T&Cs about any limits but wanted to see if others have received more than one.

  • Considering the tcl c727 55in
    Or LG UQ90
    Or Samsung Q60B
    Decisions Decisions

    • +1

Having had the 55 inch c727 for about a year and currently dealing with TGG to fix the interminable problems linked to its dodgy software, I would steer clear unless you want to take a gamble

      • Can you share what bugs the software has? My olds have had the same TV in the 75" for the last 8 months or so without issue thus far.
