Seems like a decent deal for the smaller wash and cure machine, especially with a $35 bottle of resin thrown in (either standard or ABS like grey). Make sure you click on the promo message on the page to add the resin.

The Mercury X is probably a better overall deal @$215.99 (also on Amazon) given its larger size but you need twice the desk area to house the separate wash and cure stations (the resin promo is also available for the Mercury X).

Nod Nod Wink Wink…. Obviously you need to be in the know to know what the hell this is.

Some deals need a bit of an explainer…. for the normal people.

      Lol fair point.

Although if you don't know what it is you probably don't have a use for it……..

        … this is ozbargain.com.au.

        Buy first, research later

Strong point IMO. Got 1 and doing the research atm.

      3D printing goo for nerds

  • The same promo is running for the mercury x bundle as well. $215 seems like an ok price?

Does anybody know if the phrozen mighty 8k build plate will work nicely with the mercury x?

    • Yeh this price is an all time low as indicated on camel3. And that's without factoring the resin. As I said, this is better value if you need the larger volume.

I misread the title as Elgato

I wish there will be some 4k 60 capture card in deal.

  • Very tempting as I've been washing and curing manually, which is a bit annoying. Have a Mars, so this should work perfectly.

What's the ABS resin like? Any advantages over the normal grey?

    • From what I read it gives off less fumes so might be safer to use.

I think i have a good idea what this is.
Its a machine that cleans and takes mercury out of fish. Then cures the fish.
$135 for all that seems decent.

Does this work for Covid sufferers?

    • I suspect preprocessing to fit the build volumes this could handle would render the covid irrelevant… so yes, they would no longer be suffering from COVID :p

Thoughts on difference between Mercury X bundle and XS ($215 vs $240)?

Got the Saturn 2 for teen for Xmas and while they believe a bucket and a UV light from Bunnings will suffice (probably will), I'm a little more cautious.

  • great addition for any meth lab

  • price has jumped back up to 169 (thought it was running till midnight EST, but alas), the free resin bottle promo is still showing active though. (269 on the Mercury X deal now too)

Wtf are you all talking about? Wtf is this? I’m so confused.

    • +3

An explanation is probably fair for this.

Resin 3D printing basically works building up layers of plastic in a vat of toxic goo (the resin) that solidifies when exposed to UV light. afterwards you have the printed object but it's still covered in goo and the UV reactive plastic it's composed of is not fully cured.

This device is for what's referred to as post processing, washing off the excess resin with a solvent and then exposing the printed object to further UV light to finish curing the plastic. you don't neeeeed a station to do this but it makes it way easier.

      • Thanks for explaining! So what are the benefits over a standard 3D printer?

        • +1

You can print much more detailed objects (like small figures) without all the visible artifacts of the standard 3d printer (assuming FDM as the standard one) but potentially not as strong. You can search for FDM vs DLP printers, both have advantages and disadvantages.

@DmytroP: Awesome. My kids have been bugging me for a 3D Printer, especially my eldest as he wants to print off figures. This helps me a lot. Thanks =)

            • @Cyphar: My kids are using the DLP printer for the same hobby and the quality of figures is amazing, but please make sure to read about safety dealing with the chemicals/resin, better to keep it in a well ventilated area or outside.

  • I have the ELEGOO Saturn 2 what model should i get ?
