Don't test that the light works by pointing it at your face and turning it on.

    😵‍💫

    • +11

      Same with guns and hoses

      • +4

        Also horses.

      • +3

but guns & roses are fine

    • +8

I made the mistake of this after fixing a standalone flash for my SLR.

      Legit couldn't see for 3 hours 💀😂

      • +4

Your pfp suggests you haven't learnt from your mistake…

        • +2

Some people just never learn do they? 😂

    • +2

How else will I light up my life?

    • Not unless you want to be in a psychedelic disco for a few minutes lol

  • +2

Great stuff !! Also any voucher for the LT1S kit?

  • +1

IF22AKIT $5 cheaper on Aliexpress but if I get next day delivery happy to pay Thank You!

    • Need to factor in GST and make sure it's the SFT40 version.

  • +2

I really don't need more torches… struggling to not buy this!

  • whats the difference between them and do any have the 21700?

    • +9

IF22A has a 21700 cell. It produces a narrow "throwy" beam with a Luminus SFT40 LED and a TIR optic. It has a simple user interface.

SC31 Pro has a 18650 cell. It is more of an EDC type of torch with a small reflector. It has the complex Anduril user interface.

SP40 has a 18650 cell. It is a headlamp with a small reflector. It has a simple user interface. The tubes may be interchangeable with the SC31 Pro.

BLF LT1 has four button top 18650 cells. You can adjust the colour temperature and brightness. It has Anduril.

LT1S has a 21700 cell. It has a simple user interface. It's like the head of a LT1 but the LEDs are different and it has red LEDs.

      They all have built-in charging.

      • +3

        link to LT1S and code?

        • +1

I'll ask Vivi. It looks like it was $53 recently on ozbargain.

          • @Tim Mc: the LT1 code HQPNGNK9 only apply the 15% off, ($126 -> $107), no the $29 off
            can you fix it please?
            thx

            • +1

@gzrain: Vivi @ OP handles the discounts.

I'm just another torch enthusiast who has done some reviews of Sofirn torches that were gifted (associated due to a few free torches).

I'll let her know about the codes.

            • @gzrain: Ditto

            • @gzrain: Worked just now for me (didn't buy, have enough)

        • +1

        • as above

      • +1

        +1 for LT1S code please

Does Sofirn have a waterproof torch suitable to go under as far 1.5m

  • I am thinking of buying lantern one. Do you guys think airline or airport security will have problem carrying with me overseas?

    • +1

The LT1 is an excellent lamp, it is quite heavy on account of the 4 x 18650 cells though. For overseas travel, I would recommend looking at the LT1S which also has a 15% discount coupon on the Amazon page, or one of my favorite lights, the Wuben F5 whic has a 10% off coupon bringing it down to about $41. The F5 comes with a magnetic back which is also a kick stand, a carabiner, smooth brightness ramping, 3 colour tints and can also be used as a powerbank. They are an under rated light.

    • +1

In theory, you should have no issues with a SC31Pro (no sharp edges, smaller than 7", no huge battery). But it is always up to the agent inspecting your luggage.

  • +2

What’s so good about these? Not come across the brand before

    • These are the bomb

    • +2

It’s one of ozbargains favourite torch brands - the other being Wuben, and the arlec 4410907 at Bunnings when it goes on special

      • Wurkkos another favourite brand.

      • +1

I don’t understand all this talk about UI and Anduril firmware, why would a torch need more than on-off and possibly some dimmer modes? What am I missing? Serious question.

        • +3

Agreed. I prefer a simple UI with a mechanical tailswitch to turn a torch on/off and half press to change brightness (a few levels).

Sofirn have been active on budgetlightforum, sharing ideas and getting feedback from the flashlight community.

Anduril (by the user "ToyKeeper" on BLF) is a popular UI among some torch enthusiasts. The SC31 Pro was the first Anduril torch that I bought. It was a relatively inexpensive way to check out the UI.

Nowadays there are more brands using Anduril and some have programming pads exposed near the spring for the battery so that you can connect an adapter. For example: Wurkkos TS10. gchart created some programming adapters (I got a batch assembled through JLCPCB).

The SC31 Pro that I have doesn't have pads to easily update the firmware. Instead, I need to remove the switch and poke some pogo pins through the hole to get to the MCU.

I believe that Sofirn updated the driver boards for their SP10 Pro, SC21 Pro and SC31 Pro to have three pads exposed. I've asked Vivi to confirm if the SC31 Pro stock at AMZ AU has pads.

Why Anduril? It has a bunch of features and people can modify the firmware to customise it.

          • +3

@Tim Mc: Customise to do what? Turn on?

            • +1

@matt-ozb: Customize max brightness (withing the light's capabilities), minimum brightness, number of modes, smooth brightness ramping vs stepped. It's a rabbit hole.

            • +1

@matt-ozb: Customise it to: Require x amount of clicks to unlock, automatically lock when the battery is replaced (bit more child friendly), limit max brightness, make a switch LED or aux LEDs act independently from the main LEDs.

I spent some time customising it to make my own torches more child safe. E.g. Emisar D4V2 can be dangerous if used inappropriately.

My EDC are AAA/10440 and AA/14500 torches with simple user interfaces. ReyLight Pineapple Mini Copper and Acebeam Pokelit AA Copper. Anduril torches are my least used but I find them fun from a developer perspective.

        • +1

Agree. I have a ZebraLight from a previous deal and while it’sa great torch, I can never remember what presses do what, and I’m an electronics engineer. I just want it to turn on and off, maybe also cycle brightnesses. But you need to press and hold for one thing, double press for something else, single press for something. I just mash the button until I find what I want but it often ends up in emergency flicker mode in the mean time.

        • One of the features of the LT1 I really love is the beacon mode. When prawning on a dark lake, I set the LT1 on beacon mode and head out into the lake and with that thing pulsing a powerful pulse of light every 5 seconds or so, I can see where I am in relation to my gear on the shore. The candle function is cool and a good night light for kids as will fade out to off.

      • +1

Some would say "The eneloops of torches".

    • $/perf

Needed some camp lighting and got that olight headtorch with the 21700 cell so these will suit

    • These are the arguably the best value and still high quality torches on the market.

  • I have 2x skillhunt H04 and have gifted the same, I'll need to check these out as you can never have too many torches

    • i'll need to check these out as you can never have too many torches

If you wouldn't mind telling my wife that, that would be great.

      • +1

I don't know what you're talking about, another delivery? It was parts for the lawn mower.

    • I have both. The H04 are way brighter than the sp40a.

      • Thanks mate, I'll stick with skilhunt

  • @Tim Mc does the SC31 Pro come with Anduril 2 installed?

    • +1

Yes, I have one and the Anduril 2 interface is very customisable. Takes a bit of time to learn though.

    • +1

I'll ask Vivi to see if it's Anduril 2 and if the driver board was updated to have programming pads.

      • Thanks @Tim Mc!

  • +6

New Years resolution was to buy less torches. Blew that day one. :(

    • +2

      There's always next year

  • How do these compare to Convoy?

  • Got a SP35 a while back. Great little torch. Though remember all settings that controlled by one button can be challenging if you'd like to use all features.

Note flashlights like this can generate quite a bit of heat under highest brightness settings.

  • +1

A warm white high CRI SC32 would be great.

  • The head torch I have and really like. Very effective.

  • +2

The code for IF22AKIT doesn't seem to work for me. Final price is $54.74

    • Strange, I also cannot get the price lower than $54.74, I'll inform them but for now have edited the post, thanks for the update.

      • I managed to get the original price for IF22A using code but that was over an hour ago.

  • +2

IF22AKIT is $54.74 for me? cant see any 10% off code

    • +4

Same for SC31. The 5% off coupon is not showing

  • +2

As above, can’t get the SC31 to the indicated price.

  • How do you apply the 5% off coupon?

  • +1

Anyone compared to this to the Wuben C3? Currently for sale with 20% off for me and more reviews it seems?

    • +2

Yes, nothing wrong with the Wuben and at retail price it's a tuff choice. But with the Sofirn discount it's a no brainer to go it.

    • +1

I prefer the Anduril UI and am not really a fan of the colour temperature on the Wuben. I have an IF25A which is shorter than the Wuben but thicker with a 21700 cell and am pretty happy with it.

  • These look decent but they all seem to take li-ion batteries. Are there any comparable ones that take AAs?

    • +1

Li-Ion's can hold a lot more capacity for the size, and discharge faster (allowing much brighter modes), and these have got built in charging.

    • +2

Huh? You'd prefer to spend money on AA batteries .. rather than use built-in high performance lithium battery?

      • +2

AA is a more common standard, so I already have a bunch of NiMH batteries. To get the same utility out of a torch taking 18650s i'd need to buy some spare 18650s and a charger capable of handling them, increasing the buy-in cost, and they would only be used for the torch.

I might consider going that route in future, but it seems silly for just 1 device.

      • +1

Haven't you heard of Eneloop NiMH AA batteries that every member of OzBargain would have owned many by now? You better hand back your OzBargain membership :p

    • +1

Sofirn does have SP10 Pro and SP10 V3 that can be powered by AA batteries or 14500 li-on batteries.

      • I have the old SP10 and the new V3. Both works well, heat and brightness are well balanced, and are great for backups if the power goes out for days (happened in 2016) and I need to fall back on normal AA batteries.

        • +1

Yeah the SP10 Pro is now my EDC torch, replacing my venerable Fenix LD20. I also have the Sofirn SC31 Pro and ThruNite TN4A to satisfy my (mild) brighter flashlight addiction.

          • @edfoo: Ditto, the SP10 is my bag EDC.
My pocket EDC is the SC01 mini. Really useful for work indoors, where it can be dim or when the RCD trips and I need to find my way out.
The SC01 is not perfect. The low mode is too dim and the next (and only other) mode gets too hot too soon.
Also, USB-C instead of micro USB would be nice.

  • Are any of these warm white torches?

    • 2700k would be ideal

    • +2

      LT1 ramps from 2700K to about 6500K.

  • Any other torches with a 21700 battery and a warmer colour temp?
    6500k seems too harsh.

    • +3

IF25A 4000K. Might be cheaper on AE or the official site.

  • Thank you OP. Ordered the SP40.😁

  • +1

Are there any codes for LT1S .. the small lantern?

  • +1

SC31 seems to have lost the 5% off.

    • LT1 lost 15% off sadly … was in my cart and about to buy

      • Sorry.. lost $29 but 15% is still applied

  • +5

It seems like all of the deals just got downgraded. What a shame!

    • Got the sc31 for $37.49 about 3h ago. still same price

    • Tested the first and last just now. Those deals still active.
