Still overpriced, go down more please.

    • +27

      That's what he said

    • +5

yep no deal, Nvidia and AMD are still riding the stupid mining prices,

70 series card for $1.4k is a rort.

two years ago a MSI Ventus 2070 super was $539 delivered:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/571683

      • +2

        I bought a 2070 super for $600 back then.

It won't go back to those prices, but it's 100% not worth $1399.

If it were, it would be selling well.

    • Nvidia are trying the double price for half the sales tactic and less resources needed to produce the same product + profits.

  • +15

To think 3080's sold at this price (and less), shame their successor isn't doing the same.

    • +6

Nvidia call this one 4080 before so xD

      • +34

And it is actually a 4060 TI

        • +4

192 bit memory typically just 60 class no ti

          • @adamreid: That's a bit too much, this card is the 3090 equivalent gaming performance wise. I don't recall 3060/ti is as the same level as 2080ti.

            • +1

@Masticccc: From memory the 3070 was the 2080ti equivalent

            • +2

@Masticccc: Hes referring to architecture. This card uses the same chip size and memory architecture that a xx60 card would use. Not a 70 or 80.

    • +3

The 3080 launched at like $1000-1100AUD but VERY soon after launch the coin miners dug in deep which caused the price to skyrocket.

      • +18

yep, but nvidia and AMD need to realize that the mining boom is over, now its just us normies that are buying graphics cards, for you know… gaming…

        • still hard to believe

        • +3

they already realised it's over, but still price them high because they think that since people have no other choice other than either going with Intel Arc, using their CPU or mobo's iGPU, or just not using their pc, they won't care about price as much.

          • +5

@FujinShu: It’s because there’s a huge inventory of 30 series cards still to sell. A years worth. So until those are depleted the price will remain high.

            • +1

@Skramit: Yep, this is what people need to understand, Nvidia (profanity) themselves when they over ordered 3000 series chips from TSMC, because they thought the cyrto hype train would continue.

This isnt like in the past where they stop producing old chips when the new cards come out, we will continue to see 3000 series cards on "sale" probably until the end of the year because they are still making new chips for them. Nvidia will price the 4000 series unaffordable for most gamers to make the 3000 series cards look appealing until the contract with TSMC is complete.

AMD dont have this issue though they are most likely taking advantage of this situation by pricing their 7000 series cards higher as well though not as much as Nvidia.

        • +3

well, nvidia probably think "hrmm, we cant sell to miners anymore, which means less units, so to make money we need to crank up the price per unit".

so, we get screwed by miners (and nvidia) again.

AMD is just playing follow the leader…

        • -1

Actually it's you who needs to realize that this is the new normal.
GPU prices are a joke, but guess what? Stupid people keep buying them. The 4090 is still sold out in the USA, and braindead consumers are now buying them from scalpers at even more ridiculous prices.

Why should Nvidia lower their prices if more than enough dumb people are prepared to pay more than double what the GPU is actually worth?

    • +11

3080 still going for $1250-$1350 new, I want want they're smoking

      • -4

Plenty of sales were going around for 1k even last year, you'd be pretty dumb paying anything over

        • +4

theres a key word there, were

          • -3

@Pugkin: WILL BE! old gen wont go up in price

            • +4

@botchie: it literally just did the last few months

      • They're $700 on the used market. Seems a reasonable buy if they haven't been flogged mining

      • 3080 maybe won't be able to do frame generation, which effectively doubles FPS.

  • +2

Good find. Looking out for a deal on the inno3d model. 2 slot 40 series finally!

    • -1

How 2 slots? It takes up 3 slots and you cant put anything in the 4th slot as it blocks air intake.

      • +2

The inno3d model is 2 slots

        • +2

          Sorry my bad.

    • +2

just checked, inno3d 4070ti $1405 from 3 ebay sellers if you have the $120 voucher

      • I do not sadly

        • maybe for the ebay plus member only, I am waiting for the 20% and 22% ebay plus sale if they dont jack up the price.

      • What is the eBay $120 off code? i have eBay Plus

  • +1

Post covid I judge gpu deals by if I can put together a rig the same or cheaper than prebuilt companies can get it down to with near equiv parts.

I cant with this pricetag so nah not a deal.

    • -2

yeah, "post" covid. still a lot of active cases in aus and well.. a lot in many other places to say the least

      • +2

What matters is we are post COVID lockdowns

        • +3

point still stands that its still having an impact on a global level, these arent made here mind you

      • -1

        Post tyranny then

        • -3

Well, go to China and see where you can cure your mental illness. Let you understand what tyranny is. If you think you can pretend you don't see it, that's okay, they'll give you a new virus.

  • +33

Technically if you see the die size compared to flagships of the all previous series, the 4080 16GB should have been the 4070/Ti and this should have been the 4060 or 4060Ti series. This is literally paying 1400 for a 4060/Ti. Of course nvidia gets to decide the price, but just saying how they are trying to mint money by moving up all GPUs by a tier.

Not to be judgemental but I have a feeling all people supporting the new pricing are either retailers or own a lot of nvidia shares. Dont see how else posting these deals and supporting nvidia/AMD high GPU price deals works out.

    • +3

Thank you for pointing out the elephant(s) in the room.

    • actually im neither a retailer or own nvidia shares, im just trying to upgrade my 3060 ti for productivity and gave up on trying to find 3080/90
i also accidentally clicked the upvote button (mobile) which cant be undone and downvoting would not reflect my option

      • +8

        4070 Ti is actually 3x faster than a 3090 Ti1

        1. only in raytraced Cyberpunk 2077 with DLSS 3, possibly at 640x480

        • LOL love the disclaimer. Yeah it is basically DLSS 3 vs DLSS 2 instead of GPU vs. GPU capability.

    • +5

100% agree. This price tag is retarded.

I am unsure our voice can change anything, but here is it.

      Stop price insanity!

      • Wallets are what will change things.

    • 4N is more expensive compared to 8N with the same die size, you can't compare by the die size alone and expect the same price.

    • +1

What???? You're comparing physical die size and not the manufacturing technology (8nm vs 4nm) to determine cost and what tier it should be? Lol

      • No, I am considering the ratio of the cores from AD102 to AD103 and AD104 to 80, 70 and 60 series. The cost of the die has not increased much. 17000$ per wafer translates to less than 70 to 80$ per die and Samsung was somewhere around that price or slightly lower (because the die was larger). And the GPU cost has increased by 700$. So no lol. lol.

        • Ratio of cores? What? The AD102 has more of everything (cuda cores, GPC, TPC, transistors etc) than corresponding previous generations. By no means do i agree with the price tag but I don't understand your logic

          • @NixMo1: There are plenty youtube videos explaining what I said if you search for die size ratio in ada.

    • Don't blame Nvidia for exploiting the dumb sheep. If there are hordes of sheep lining up to buy their massively overpriced GPUs, why wouldn't they overprice them?

  • +15

    worth no more than $999

    • +3

      I got my 970 for $400

      • -1

My dad could take 5c to school and get lunch.

Your 970 is probably beaten by an APU.

      • -5

Another dumb comparison, I got my 670 for $359 so what?

          • +1

@timweenie: see my numbers rant, it only means something if you choose to care. See: the 7900xtx and 7900xt, x-flation man

  • +12

Honestly it should be $800aud and the 4070 around 700aud. Even that is a bit high.. at least that is what we were use to.
Now people are poorer then ever and prices higher then ever, kind of silly.

    • Inflation and cost of materials r n d and stuff it will always rise a little bit yes should be around those prices but wont stay there forever.

      • +14

Funny how inflation hits GPUs and not CPUs huh

    • +3

there are more richer people than you think, see how luxury cars selling in Australia.

      • Loan tingszzz, no one getting a loan on GPUs (I hope)

  • +4

    Keep HODLing

  • +5

Best I can do is tree-fiddy.

    • Well it was about that time that I realised this GPU had big googly eyes and was 30 foot long…

  • Was this used as a mining card?

    • +5

I doubt it considering this is a brand new card that was released less than a week ago.

      • -1

        Sarcasm

  • +4

Prices of GPU too damn high

  • +4

Apple is just as bad. Look at the way their macbooks went up

  • 1100 then maybe i'd consider

  • This has to be the most boxiest/sharp edged card I've ever seen. I'm a fan of the 4070ti's but not this card

  • Unless there is a big discount from the launch prices, every Nvidia GPU deal posted in OzB will be slammed by many members.

  • Seems like price is dropping so soon after launch , this will be interesting to watch

  • +23

If people are buying these and supporting these prices even at a "discount". GPU pain will continue.

    • +2

people will always buy graphics cards, its literally why the higher end last gen cards have spiked in price, because people bought last gen after seeing this Gen's pricing. a good deal means more people buy it meaning the price increases.

Most people arent going to wait 2 months for the price to go down maybe $100, i gave up myself in august and well, prices went up

      • +3

old gen was actually priced real well on launch after 20xx card tanked - funny due to high pricing
but mining stuffed it all up
now there is no mining and Nvidia priced it wrong, cards wont go - its simple
next gen will be heaps cheaper again

        • +2

it was priced well for 2 seconds, and dont try and blame the entire gpu crisis on mining, thats just picking a problem and hyperfocusing rather than looking at the real problem. many of the actual impacts for the pricing are still around, just weakened. Covids still around (specially in china), theres supply issues and well, people are still buying gpus

          • +3

@Pugkin: lol, ppl actually had bots set up to buy all that came online, you don't see that now
            mining was the problem
            production couldn't keep up
sure demand was high but I dare say without mining it wouldn't double in price
it would be maybe 20% up on ebay like ps5s

            • @botchie: theres still people scalping on ebay lol

  • +18

Fu*k nvidia! Bunch of greedy bastards

    • -1

Why aren't you blaming the dumb consumers instead? The reason Nvidia is persisting with these prices is because a lot of people are still dumb enough to pay that much.

      • Some people simply NEED a card. I get what you're saying, but IT IS STILL up to the manufacturer to lower prices. They KNOW that mining is over for the most part, times are tough financially around the world, if they had any sense….. and wanna make some real money, they'd flood the market with a cheap price and clean up the entire market, making people be loyal and buy again in the future. But their greed is too great!

  • +5

Now, at the end of the day the model number is just that, a number. This is a 3080ti-90 competitor that is more power efficient. Given the current prices of high end 30 series this isnt really the most absurd price. I'm personally likely to wait for it to drop another hundred or 2 but still.
I personally would consider it absurd for anyone to expect this to reach the 3070 ti's lowest price, especially considering the 3070 ti isnt even at that damn price atm

Oh and one thing, theres not 0 reasons magically that things cost more, theres still supply demand issues, china being mid-(profanity)

    • +1

I agree and for me hodl for a year to get $400 off and miss year of high end gaming just not worth it. Opportunity cost for something I love that'll end up costing me way less than the price jacking of my flat white over the past few years or bloody watermelon selling consistently for $3/kg and not the $1.5/kg I expect. Anyway there are way more reasons than just greediness for the price increase. So while there is a dilemma for $per fps and how it's not the value it was in the previous jumps how is it better to buy a 3xxx card when you're still supporting NVIDIA anyway, but buying older tech.

    • +2

bro, why do you keep telling people not to buy Nvidia, but at the same time upvote this post?

      • +1

Im against the whole "team x" bs, people should stop absolutising corporations to a point where its straight up manipulative and idiotic.
amd nvidia and intel are all corporations, and do generally do similarly scummy stuff, 7000 series is also marked up greatly compared to 6000 series alike 40 series.
I buy nvidia because amd dont do much for productivity, i dont care about it being a nvidia i just care about decent performance.
this price isnt the best, but people treat this like the absolute devil and just… gloss over most of the bad amd deals, seriously read the comments.
Its not realistic to treat amd as some "little underdog", if a $1600 gpu cant bloody cool itself, then it cant bloody cool itself

  • Its not going down per se, its been this price since launch night.

  • +2

    Just another $500 to go.

  • +17

Do not buy at this price

  • -7

Or just buy a used 3080 12gb for slightly less and get same performance, literally no difference see gamers nexus review for a lol.

    • +8

used card vs new card, yeah fair comparison.
also, did we watch the same video? for most performance metrics it was closer to 3090/90 ti while using less power than the 3080.
I agree the price for this card is too high but comparing used 3080 to new 4070 ti is not really a useful comparison

      • 4070 Ti performs well than 3090 Ti on 1440p and especially 1080p. Only at 4K it bottlenecks due to vram size.

        • -2

If anyone is buying this for 1080p they're a fool. At 1440p ultrawide and 4k (most customers for this level of GPU), it's basically a 3080. At the same time, discrete GPU shipments are currently lowest in 20 years. There's no way they can justify charging more for the same performance when the market is weak, they will have to lower prices if they want to improve sales.
I'd recommend either Rx 7900 xt/xtx or wait for 7800/7700 if your budget is a bit lower. $1400 for the equivalent of a 3080 is not a bargain.

          • @Gladioli: Some people want every last frame possible at 1080p, you can't call them a fool.

Sure, it's not for me, or for most…. But those who are getting excited for 500+hz monitors might think otherwise.
