What will be the mainstream gamer card for rtx 4000 series?

    Previous gen was 3060ti.

    • +11

      GT 4010.

    • +3

      Probably a 4060 ti for $800-900

      • +12

Probably, still a bloody rip off though.

        • +1

          1070 costs $500. 4070 ti should be $600.

          • +3

@jsilverhand: USD$ maybe, the 1070 was never commonly available for under AUD$600, was closer to $700 on average.
I recall buying an EVGA for $599 and that was a long waited and hunted bargain, not a typical price.

That said you still have a point, the 4070 shouldn't be more than AUD$800 - AUD $900 and the Ti AUD $900 to $1000

This 'deal' is plain and simple overpriced by ~$400

            • @virtual81: I bought 1070 for $550 aud from amazon US .
No sale just price trigger from camelx3.

Was plain easy to buy at cheap back then.

          • @jsilverhand: What planet are you blokes on

        • +2

          Probably…

          Nah… Not probably.
          Definitely! :)

Probably still the 3060 Ti or 3080 to be honest. Nvidia even said something to the effect of "the 30 series remains the choice for mainstream gamers" in their most recent live event. IMO every 40 series product below the 4090 is a decoy product to push people either towards the 4090 (with insane profit margins) or the 30 series (which clears out Nvidia's equally insane stock of these cards). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decoy_effect

      • +3

How long can they keep it up for, though?

At some point Nvidia will have to realise there's a (assumingly) massive number of 3000 series cards that won't sell unless there's a solid price drop. Otherwise AMD will come out with mid-tier cards in the 7000 series and screw any chance Nvidia has of selling their 3000 series at a decent margin.

        • +3

In my opinion the problem is as easy to fix as a price drop, as the actual generational improvement when matching up marketing model numbers (if you ignore price) isn't really that bad from the 30 to 40 series. The 4090 is actually the "best value" xx90 card they've ever made, if you can use the words "value" and "40 series" in the same breath. My guess is that Nvidia is wagering they can sell enough of the 30 series cards before AMD offers some series mid-range competition to make this strategy worth it. The backlash about the pricing will probably be forgotten as quickly as it was for the 20 series when the 30 series came out, so long as the 50 series restores some sanity to their pricing strategy.

          • +1

            @xxBARGAINGODxx: I tend to agree

This whole anti-consumer strategy from Nvidia is the reason I went with AMD for my in-progress build. Not that I see AMD as the 'good guys' but I felt like I was falling into Nvidia's consumer trap if I bought either a 3000 or a 4000 series GPU with current pricing.

            • @soymeat: Congrats, they have some great value cards in the 6xxx series. Unfortunately not easily being able to run CUDA code for my work was not an option for me or I would have done the same thing, bought a used 3080 a week before the official 40 series announcement for $800.

NVIDIA will show their Q4 2022 financials around February 15th. Maybe if they are at a loss again something might change.

This is from NVIDIA's Q3 2022 financial report under the "gaming" section:

"Third-quarter revenue was $1.57 billion, down 51% from a year ago and down 23% from the previous quarter."

          https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-announces-financia…

        • +2

And what happens when the 5XXX series is due for release?

The 3000 series stock will still be there, and NVIDIA will also be trying to clear out 4000 series. They will keep the pricing of 3000 and 4000 series where it is and bring in the 5080 at AUD$3,000? 😜

    • My bet is on this one, when it comes down in price. 3090-3090ti performance for half the power. Maybe even there will be a "4070" for 80% the price that delivers 90% the performance.

I think for those that need an upgrade from <3070 or 6800 this is not a bad price, given the cost of everything has also increased, but eventually, we should see these down at around $1k, IMO.

If another mining boom happens though, these are the most efficient and cost-effective cards, sadly, in terms of perf/watt. Source https://youtu.be/aCVzEGBz7Ic?t=1248

Second hand RTX 3070, not this over priced junk

  • +15

Just got my Sapphire RX6700 10GB Pulse for $469 delivered. I am happy with it and able to play most of the games in 2 K. it's just crazy to pay for a video card for more than $1000 for home users and gamers.

    • What is 2k. ? 1440p ?

"Whether we'll get cheaper graphics cards out of it, we're not so sure."

    • This is probably going to save ~$1 manufacturing cost per card for AIBs. It is almost certainly a move to marginally improve AIB profits (which are rumoured to be very low) or address a weak point in the supply chain. Any price cuts are unlikely to be related to this change.

  • +2

Yes, the price is high for a xx70 series card but everyone seems to forget that the 4070 Ti offers similar gaming performance to a 3090. It also has better RT, DLSS3 and uses less power.

    • +8

      True.

But the 3090 is incredibly overpriced too.

      • +1

The 2nd hand one is around $1200

        • +2

          Exactly.

Second-fastest GPU from previous gen, 6 months into the new gen, should be under 600 used, not double that.

          • +2

@ItsMeAgro: Missed the good ol days when 1080 was $600 or under (used)

          • @ItsMeAgro: You don't get to wish for a price mate. Look at the second hand market. That is the best indicator of true card demand. When a used 3080 is still $1200 this is a reasonable price

    • +3

Yeah and 3090 has double the VRAM at 24GB.

    • +2

Anything looks good value compared to a 3090 since it was a relatively shit card (5% faster than a 3080 while costing 2x as much), only upside being a ton of vram since nvidia has been allergic since pascal to increase vram on their cards. Same with the 3090ti which had its 2000 usd price (no 'official' msrp but these were avg prices of aib cards) cut in half 6 months after release.

Nvidia knows their new 40xx series is crap for dollar/fps which is why they're only comparing them to their hyper inflated and niche cards.

I don't think the universe revolves around me but one thing I do know is that Murphy takes extreme pleasure in kicking me as hard and as often in the nuts as it possibly can. I feel I should do the community a favour and buy an overpriced card so that it kicks off the fall in prices that everyone wants and needs.

Looks like NIL sold at the time of my comment?

Artificially hiked MSRP, which is then claimed to be discounted. No Deal.

    • +3

It's exactly what they are doing. It happens on eBay all the time

    • Surprisingly 2 sold now.

      • Still 2 sold, more than 10 available

  • Nothing to see here

  • Btw, shopping express clearance eBay store (some company as futu) also have some graphic card on 22% off too. Galax 3060 is $413 shipped for eBay member.

  • upper mid range gpu for this price = NOPE

  • +1

    Don't buy.

  • -5

Can't buy a second hand 3080 for under $1200. This pricing is reasonable

  • +1

Slightly cheaper at another seller here

  • +1

It warms my soul seeing no one buying these cards.
    Faith in humanity restored.

Cheers to the original poster - just grabbed one. Great price. At least $100 less than anywhere else (Scorptex, Centrecom, etc.). Supposed to be a rock solid card. Looking forward to it. Wouldn't have found without you! :)
