  • Brilliant… I was only looking at this on Wednesday!

  • I have one at home and one at work. It will convert you into a real coffee snob, no milk or sugar ever again.

  • +1

Have had my Aeropress for nearly two years now…. agree that it's hard to beat when making coffee at home or work. Quick, clean, and great flavour. There's even a world championship, I kid you not. (http://worldaeropresschampionship.wordpress.com/recipes/).

Makes good espresso, or what I tend to do is heat up half a cup of milk in the microwave (about 1 minute on full) and then press a shot straight into it. End up with a pretty decent flat white. Given enough time (you normally have to toss out the first few shots when warming up a machine) with a really good espresso machine, you could beat it…. and one of those stove top Moka jobs can make a good shot if you get the grind right and know how to use it…. but again, these things are just so easy to use.

I had/have a hand grinder somewhere, but it can be a pain to use when all you want is a quick shot. Personally I'd suggest a powered conical burr job (http://www.bigw.com.au/home-garden/small-appliances/coffee-m…)

    • I also have an aeropress. Mine's more like 5 years old though. and still going strong! very recommended.

I bought that exact sunbeam grinder from bigW to use at work when it was on sale for $20 delivered. Did a decent grind, however it was WAY too noisy for my office :( I think a hand grinder would be a much better option for office environments.

so now I just still grind up a few days worth of coffee in my EM0480 at home and take it in to work.

  • Can you cut standard filter paper to size? or must buy filters from their online shop? can anyone comment on the grinder?

    • You could cut 'em yourself of course…. you can also get a metal filter…. you can also rinse out the paper filters and use them multiple times. Frankly, it costs about $7 for a pack of 200 paper filters (a number of coffee shops stock them - you can check online at http://www.aeropress.com.au/where-to-buy) so I simply toss them! Check my reply above re the grinder.

      • 350 filters come with the Aeropress. The filter packs are $6 for 350 filters. Order with some coffee and freight is free (fixed price postage of $6.90 regardless of order). The porlex grinder is made in Japan and uses ceramic conical bur grinders. You will have the coffee ground before the kettle is boiled.

        • Will you guys have a stall at the Aroma Festival at The Rocks on Sunday 29th July?

    • .

  • I have sooo many coffee devices and so many disappointments. Do I really need this? I just want decent coffee at work!

    • +1

It is a fairly well regarded device. The coffee, I find, doesn't quite have the same body as a shot out of an espresso machine, but makes a very drinkable cup in it's own way. The biggest improvement to taste will be made by using freshly ground beans of course. Freshly roasted/ground beans will make a better tasting coffee than pre-ground, regardless what device you're using, so if you can't get a decent electric burr grinder at work, the porlux alone is probably worth it.

  • Seeing how MacGyver uses the Aeropress might make you want to buy it even more.

    • I would of thought he'd use a toothpick and some dental floss.

  • +1 from me - was looking at getting this the other week…hopefully it's better than the Nespresso.

    • my girlfriend has a nespresso. i prefer the coffee from my aeropress. as long as you're grinding fresh, you should be good.

  • I'd recommend ducking in to Aldi and buying one of their $20 milk frothers (normally bought for their expressi machines), and pairing it with this deal if you're a milk coffee drinker.

    • for some reason my $24 milk frother from aldi is dead after 4months. can't find the receipt :(

      • if you bought with credit card, take in the details of the transaction date/time and they might be able to find it on their system.

  • I've had this combo for 3 months and my nespresso has been gathering dust for the same amount of time. Absolutely love mine.
