Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to a price increase by Netflix. This is the third price hike for Turkey in the last 10 months.

  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 in a span of just over a year).
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremnely easy and effortless, making it the easiest-cheapest country to sign up with
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up will be quite difficult I believe
  • Netflix Argentina is now ARS699 (A$5.30) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$14.40) for the Premium Plan

Please note: Signing up via Part 3 may be the easier method as most OzBargainers previous had lots of issues with Part 2, due to Netflix Turkey requesting a Turkish mobile number

There are plenty of previous threads on users commenting their experience. Please read it if you are stuck. See here and here and here and here

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Direct Method - No Gift Cards - MOST LIKELY TO FAIL)

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method

Possibly working cards from: 28 Degrees, ANZ Rewards, Citibank Debit, Macquarie

Possible Problem: If it asks for a Turkish mobile number, you will have to find a working one so they can send you verification. AFAIK, there is no way bypassing this and you will need to sign up via Part 3

Part 3 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Using Gift Cards if Part 2 Fails) - EASIEST METHOD

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 3. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card. If you are signing up to Netflix Premium, buy the 100 TL gift card. If signing up to Netflix Basic/Standard, buy the 75 TL gift card (just an idea, doesn’t matter what GC you get)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery, they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Aus account with a VPN gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul. You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card and follow the prompts to subscribe to Netflix Turkey:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

  5. Proceed by choosing your current saved Australian credit/debit card (shown on screen) as the backup payment method (if it doesn't let you choose then it's highly possible it's already saved in the account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom), OR add a new card in (this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification however, hence Part 1 - see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: You’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

  6. You’re done! Turn off your VPN and enjoy your subscription :)

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN for this

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely! See Part A

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: You can contact live chat and ask them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?

  • Im using windscribe.. When I connect to Turkey, whatsmyipaddress keeps saying im connected in Pune India? Ive tried restarting it a few times but it doesnt help. Any suggestions?

  • Just received a spam email payment suspended 🤣

    • Same here, weird

  • PSA, this doesn't work anymore. It won't allow you to change plans, you can only "re-start" it, which uses your original region and payment method.

    From Netflix website: (https://help.netflix.com/en/node/22)

    How to change your plan

You can change your Netflix plan at any time by following these steps:

Sign in to your Netflix account.
Under Plan Details, select Change Plan. (If you do not see Change Plan, please contact us.)

NOTE: If your account is on hold, no plan changes can be made until the hold is resolved.

Additionally, it won't even allow redeeming TRY gift cards anymore either at all, so bad luck. wasted a months membership money trying to save a penny lol.

One last thing, it won't even let you "sign up" to Turkish Netflix at all, you can only "sing in"

    Basically all patched…

    • ????

Not sure what you’re talking about…

It won't allow you to change plans

Yes you can. I’ve just tested it myself. Any other Ozbargainers wanna test this too to confirm?

      you can only "re-start" it

Isn’t that what we’re doing? Restarting any subscription… with a gift card!

Additionally, it won't even allow redeeming TRY gift cards anymore either at all, so bad luck

I just did it so I’m not sure what happened to you

One last thing, it won't even let you "sign up" to Turkish Netflix at all, you can only "sing in"

Are you even doing it right? What VPN are you using?

      • Huh super odd, I followed it pretty closely I thought.

I am on Nord VPN, it does connect over Istanbul.

So what happened in my case is; I cancelled membership, making sure payment methods and phone number in place.

signed back in from Aus, turned on VPN.

So all I am seeing right now is " re-start subscription ". All it does when you click on it is restarts on your Aus plan with Aus pricing.

Clicking on "choose plan" is out as per the webpage I gave, it will not show me that as an option. Under plan it says "Standard(HD)" and nothing else, there is nothing to click on to see TRY pricing.

Going to "https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem" doesn't work either because it has zero reason to think you are now subscribed to Netflix Turkey. Card won't redeem, it throws and error (card is good as I tried at a seperate Turkish account without completing the claim)

So basically only chance you have to move your account to TRY pricing is when you 1-) change plan while on VPN to see TRY pricing or 2-) Redeeming a gift card while on VPN. Neither of which no longer work (at least on nordVPN, in my case that is)

        • +1

Interesting. I’m happy to sign up for you (like I did for many others here), feel free to send me a PM :)

          • @I Smell Pennies: Yeap, I signed in from Aus, put VPN on Istanbul, restarted the membership and it just goes to Aus pricing. "Change plan button comes back and shows on Aus Pricing also. Also even the TR redeem site won't redeem cards. Seems like the gravy train has left the station.

Just a PSA before people waste money on gift cards.

HOWEVER, don't expire the deal just yet because I actually did have success signing up a fresh account through VPN with TRY, I was dumb tho as I forgot to add the payment method lol. so that's still possible.

Even better, there is not transfer profile option, you can just transfer your existing account profile to the new account you want to use and not even loose your watch list etc.

I will try that one again and let everyone know here.

Thanks for the help offer tho, I might take you up on that haha…

            • @Larsson: Thanks for telling us tho. Worst case you come back to me. Goodluck :)

              • @I Smell Pennies: Okay basically your trick is that Netflix region blocks VPN's but only on the sign in page and you get access to regional pages but turning on the VPN post sign in.

I believe that might still work but I think you might HAVE TO wait for your account to first run out. If you cancel membership and you still have access until XX date, it won't allow you to change payment regions.

It does however work for a fresh account from Aus -> cancel via live chat (again HAVE TO). after signing back in (from Aus) post cancellation, in the very fist screen where it says "before we start your membership", you put on your VPN and refresh page or just click next and than you can access TRY pricing.

HOWEVER, transfer account feature didn't work as I expected it to. it basically expects you to have a e-mail address that is not signed up yet + you'll only be able to transfer 1 profile only so that's out.

Anyway, sorry if this is convoluted but yeah sounds like your OG method is now patched.

But the main concept of by passing regional filters by singing in first and going on to VPN later to see regional content still works. I suspect matter of time that also stops working given how aggressive Netflix has been lately.

                • +2

                  @Larsson: @Larsson Hey there

Netflix region blocks VPN's but only on the sign in page and you get access to regional pages but turning on the VPN post sign in.

Hence why instructions say to log in without VPN and then turn it on after

I believe that might still work but I think you might HAVE TO wait for your account to first run out.

If you read the instructions properly (Part 1) you would know this already, rather than having to find out like you did.

If you cancel membership and you still have access until XX date, it won't allow you to change payment regions.

Which is common sense as per above (every company is like this - you already have a current active sub, so you can’t subscribe to a new one)

HOWEVER, transfer account feature didn't work as I expected it to. it basically expects you to have a e-mail address that is not signed up yet + you'll only be able to transfer 1 profile only so that's out.

I’m unsure about that. I’ve heard others being able to do it in previous threads

I don’t think anything has been patched, rather it may be your VPN causing the problems? Or human error? I was able to sign up to a mate just a while ago with no problems

                  • +1

@I Smell Pennies: @ I Smell Pennies: Totally agree and was going to make those points earlier but lacked the time……and knew you would, nice of you to do so. : -)

@ Larrson:The sequence that things are done is important and you did not follow them. I am not being critical and only noting to try again BUT follow the guidelines to the tee and it should work.

                    • @Borg: Yeah, you guys might be right. I am going to have to wait until the membership runs out but I think the wording on the first part is misleading.

“Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2”

Makes it sound like you are just trying to utilize extra days you got left. While it’s crucial to wait until it runs out to see the sign up page. Otherwise even on VPN it just shows Aussie pricing basically.

Also thanks for the help everyone!

                  • @I Smell Pennies:

Hence why instructions say to log in without VPN and then turn it on after

Haha mate no yeah I get it, I am saying that’s really the whole trick here. So just summarizing.

If you read the instructions properly (Part 1) you would know this already, rather than having to find out like you did.

Well I have, very carefully and that’s why I am confused. Instructions make it sound like it’s an option. You have no option. You have to either let it run out or cancel your account mid pay cycle.

I’m unsure about that. I’ve heard others being able to do it in previous threads

Well I’d like to be proven wrong but Netflix has a Q&A about this function and it’s clear you can NOT transfer profiles to an account with an active membership

“Copying a profile to an existing account
This feature cannot be used to transfer a profile to an existing account.”

                    https://help.netflix.com/en/node/122698

            • @Larsson: "I signed in from Aus,", try log out, activate vpn turkey & "sign in" on turkey netflix not aus netflix, if im reading it right you are signing in Australia netflix page then going to turkey netflix that's probably the issue

              • @RogueWolf: Nope, the entire trick on this post is bypassing Netflix’s region filter by first signing in from your own region and than changing regions while you are signed in to access regional pricing page from your Aussie account.

It straight up gives and error trying to sign in from another country.

                • @Larsson: yeah I never did it that way, try clearing cache, cookies etc, turn on vpn turkey, google turkey netflix, click link & log in with aus login

is your aus netflix acc new? as this would be the problem, or have you run it in aus for 1 month, let it expire & now trying to log in turkey

More a FYI: Mine Auto renewed today for the first time and thankfully the credit card (Wise) I added when signing up worked. Initially I had to get a gift card as Cr/Card was not accepted for initial payment but I left it there as suggested here. The other nice thing is that there was no price increase for me "yet" and billed TR93.99 AU$7.34 (Premium).

    • wait my wise card was also rejected, how did you make it work again please?

      • I just left it as the payment method when signing up. It failed as initial payment method so purchssed/applied a Netflix voucher for the first month.

This month it just used the Wise card as Auto Payment without issue as it was there. It has been noted in this thread that that this is normal i.e. payment may fail initially upon sign up but to leave it there and it works fine on renewal. In turn just confirming that it worked fine for me. Hope that makes sense.

    • I use to use paypal PAYPAL *NETFLIX AUS

This month changed to C.C. before with the GC method, NETFLIX.COM Amsterdam $10.10

Just managed to sign up following the instructions, thank you!

  • What Am I doing wrong?

Account has expired -> I've Logged into Netflix without VPN -> VPN'd to Turkey then continued however prices change from AUD to USD $19.99 for premium, USD $15.49 for standard et which is far greater than the $16.99 AUD price Australian.

IP shows as Istanbul,Turkey (tried a ferw different servers in Istanbul.
    Has anyone had luck recently?

    Logging in shows:

    "Welcome back, Shane!
Unlimited movies, TV shows and more.
Watch anywhere. Cancel at any time.

    Restart your membership"

I then connect to a Turkey VPN and click "Restart your membership"
    Which takes me to https://www.netflix.com/signup?locale=en-AU

    "Welcome back, SHANE!
No commitments, cancel at any time.
Endless entertainment for one low price.
Unlimited viewing on all your devices."

I click Next which takes me to https://www.netflix.com/signup/planform

This shows "Choose the plan that's right for you" however all prices are in USD?

You’re not doing it wrong, but it seems like a VPN problem

      • I was using ProtonVPN originally, and all Turkey servers had the same symptoms unfortunately

I was able to get around it by using the free windscribe Chrome extension and selecting Turkey. I noticed when it worked with Windscribe, the URLwhen logging in was like netflix.com/en-tr which wasn't the case with ProtonVPN. I also had to purchase the giftcard due to CC asking for Turkey mobile number as per your guide.

I purchased the GC and it took 1 hour 10mins to be delivered after payment. Took a while but at least it was delivered and I applied the $75 TR credit to the $79 bill to restart the subscription.

        Thanks again mate - Champion!

  • I followed all the instructions and managed to setup subscription using giftcard. Now the problem is setting up my anz debit card as the backup payment method - doesn't allow it.Had a chat with netflix and they sent a payment form popup but that did't work either. They asked to wait for some time but even after 2 days problem remains.
Had another chat with them today and this time they asked for all things about account location, my location and finally said that - "So you need to delete the account and then need to restart the account from Australia, so that the country on your account will be Australia."

Just wondering anyone else using ANZ card has this problem and is there any workaround it?

    • Did you do Part A at all, while you had the Australia subscription?

Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

      • yes, changed it from paypal to debit card few weeks ago and then waited for account to expire.

        • "A Few Weeks Ago" Would that not them imply that you adjusted "after" moving to Turkey and applying the Giftcard (assuming the GC paid for the first month)? Only noting this as timing is important when adjusting.

          • @Borg: nah, the change was made on 31st Jan while i was on Australian sub, cancelled the subscrption and then waited till 16th for it to expire. Now that i've started Turkey sub using giftcard which is valid for a month, i tried adding debit card as backup MOP but system doesn't allow it.Tried both ways to add card i.e. 1) VPN to turkey and 2) in australia but no luck what so ever.

            • @slackerman: You don't need to add a backup if there's already a card in the system. When you signed up with gift card was there a "skip button" when you got to the payment method/card backup stage? If you pressed "skip" you would have been all good

              • @I Smell Pennies:

When you signed up with gift card was there a "skip button" when you got to the payment method/card backup stage?

I think so and I am pretty sure I did click on the skip button.
I am also thinking that my account has already debit card saved from before and now when I am trying to add same card as backup, system just doesn’t allow a duplicate.anyways will know for sure only at the end of billing cycle. Thanks for active feedback and also for the amazing work with this deal.

                • @slackerman: @slackerman

Thanks for active feedback and also for the amazing work with this deal.

Thank you so much, it means alot :)

I think so and I am pretty sure I did click on the skip button.

                  Perfect

I am also thinking that my account has already debit card saved from before and now when I am trying to add same card as backup, system just doesn’t allow a duplicate.

If it's already saved from before, it'll reject the backup since it's already there. If you login to Netflix and go to this link and you see the card you are supposedly trying to add as backup, everything is set up and you don't have to stress :)

                  • @I Smell Pennies: unfortunately, my assumption that my debit card detail is already stored was wrong. Today after the end of one month my membership was put on hold due to insufficient fund. I tried adding my ANZ debit card again as payment method but as earlier it got rejected with same error. To continue membership, I bought another turkey Netflix 100TL gift card and managed to reboot it. 100TL gift card costs 10AUD which is what I had been paying for Australian Netflix so unfortunately this deal could not work very well for me.

                    • @slackerman: Did you try adding a payment using netflix app on TV when your sub was placed on hold awaiting payment? It works well for others.

                      • @Borg: No, not from TV app but if this is something worth trying then will give it a go next time.

                        • @slackerman: Yeap, try iit but only after payment is due not before as you won't get a payment pop up if account is still active.

                          • @Borg: so now after a month my account is again put on hold, this time I tried adding my card using TV(LG) app where it asked to scan the displayed barcode and follow the instructions. This way i don't get the same error as last time but it asks to provide a Turkish mobile no. for sending OTP required for verification. There is no way to skip this (i tried it on both mobile and laptop browsers).Any other suggestion?

  • Just to help others.
    • Yes you need to wait until subs expired. After it expired GC code worked, otherwise it'll give you the code is invalid message
    • You don't need to have the full amount with the initial gift card. So I had 75 TL GC but I opted with the premium plan. It just deducted the rest of the balance from my cc.
    • I myself use Nord vpn.

perhaps part 1 - A - 3 can be reworded, I was in assumptions that you can do the process while subscription is still active, but better to do it after subscription ends so I don't waste any money. So I tried one day before subs expired and encounter the code is invalid problem.

Thank you OP, I see you actively helping others!

    • +1

Thanks. Both sections of Part 1 does say to only proceed to Part 2/3 once the subscription expires:

Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2

So if anyone here has a problem, it's likely they didn't read it properly and decided to take shortcuts and skip some steps.

I can try to reword it a bit and give a better caution if everyone is missing the point here

Please Note - there seems to be an issue with Turkey servers atm using Windscribe VPN. Server relocates to Prune (India) rather than Istanbul (Turkey), hence everyone is getting USA prices. Not sure when it will be fixed. I suggest using Hola or Urban VPN which works a charm :)

    • +1

      Istanbul Galata works.
      Ataturk does route to India.

      • I think you need premium for Galata?

        • Oh ok, yeah I have lifetime subscription, you're probably right.
I can see 3 servers, but doesn't show me if it's premium or not. 1 is indeed not working properly.

    • +1

Looks like I got in just in time in my comments above then! None of my family were even aware it stopped working whilst we were at work ;)

    • I was being affected by this today, but amidst the endless on-off cycling of Windscribe VPN, I saw that the Netflix page had changed from .../au/... to .../tr-en/... (note, no redeem) even though whatismyip.com was showing Prune.

I went ahead with the redemption as per instructions, and it worked. So it's possible that these Geo-IP services are reporting wrong results?

  • Has anyone been able to add Netflix gift card balance to an existing subscription? I get an error.

    • it worked when I did it last week, not sure about now. I want to but I can’t keep buying gift cards to test things out as the service and payment fees put on an extra cost for me

      • Did you have to wait any duration to apply the gift card?
"An error occurred during gift redemption - please try again later."

edit: I think I know why… Windscribe is putting me in India (despite selecting Istanbul).
edit2: confirmed, saw comment above, used Hola and it is working now.

  • How long do you get a gift card after you purchased them from TURGAME?

I have purchased them and the order status is still processing.

    • If you buy during daytime Aus hours, it takes up to a few hours

If you buy at night time, usually instant or a few mins (it can take the occasional hour or two)

I think it’s because they only process it during their local time

      • +1

Glad I read this, on their website it says instantly but that didn't happen. I can't get the CC option to work, keeps asking for phone no. even though I did everything this post said

        Edit:
Got the gift card and it worked that way, thanks for the instructions I Smell Pennies

I purchased the gift card through g2a and it was instant.

Thank you OP! Best birthday everrrrr 😂

  • Reports of Netflix lowering their prices in some regions, I wonder whether Turkey will be included?

    https://www.reddit.com/r/netflix/comments/118yxjt/netflix_re…

    • +2

Unlikely. Turkeys subscriber numbers have probably increased dramatically due to us on OZB, …hehehe. 😂

      • But because of the earthquake maybe more people cut their plan.

  • So something to be aware of with this account, it doesn't appear it can be used outside AU. I signed up successfully for this following the methods above and when i get my parents to use the account in India they get a message telling them this location is not allowed. They weren't getting any issues prior to the changeover. I also travel to US so to test it I VPNed into a US location and wasn't able to login into Netflix.

Not sure if its because this is Netflix turkey restriction or in general Netflix has introduced this restriction very recently. Before changing over to Turkey in Feb, when i had the AU Netflix account i was able to easily use Netflix all over Asia without any problems where i used to travel there frequently and now it seems this is not possible.

    • More a FYI: I just tested VPN into UK. Netflix worked fine from there. I know it was there as it showed "Top 10" in UK.

    • It doesn't work in some countries however, but it works in the majority of the major ones, USA, UK etc.

I also travel to US so to test it I VPNed into a US location and wasn't able to login into Netflix.

User error there - you have to login without VPN, then once you're in, turn on VPN and refresh to get the other country's stuff

  • Windscribe Turkey server seems to be working again, ip check still showed it in India but when going through sign up page on Netflix it processed in Turkish lira no problem

    • Not much luck here. Keeps landing me in either Poland or India. I'll keep trying.

      • +2

Ah never mind, just proceeding even though whatsmyip said I was in India worked fine.

  • I'm having difficulty updating my payment credit card (which was expired).
Started chat, they asked me what country the account was created, and where I currently am.
I went around in circles with the agent saying they can't update my card details while travelling, and that there is no form to update payment.

    • My HSBC card going to expiry soon, hope it will OK be to update.

    • @I Smell Pennies - any words of wisdom here?

      • +1

@tangcla it’s a bit of a hit and miss with customer service apparently - best is just to let the sub end, and restart the instructions from Part 1 - easier than dealing with chat

        • Can you still buy gift card? I read in here, Turgame didn't work anymore?

  • I used Purevpn and connected to Turkey but it keeps redirecting me to Netflix japan. After chatting with purevpn support, they said purevpn doesn’t support turkey netflix.

    I’m going to try windscribe

    • Urban VPN!!!! Easy and free

      • +1

I managed to join using windscribe for free. Thank you so much @I Smell Pennies for this guide. You might want to remove PureVPN from your list in the guide.

  • I have tried PIA and windscribe but everytime i get the Turkey mobile option when confirming account after redeeming

I bought the 100TL gift card and select the standard, but it then asks me to confirm my CVC.

OK figured it, i had to select change payment method and then skip, then it all went through ok

  • So my experience. I was signed up to Netflix via iTunes so had to cancel that and wait for it to expire. I then had to sign up again with my credit card, and made sure I had my mobile in there etc and then waited for that month to expire (I couldn't be bothered with the whole calling up and cancelling - I know, I need to hand in my ozbargain card).

So I then initially tried step 2, but it wanted to send a text message to my turkish mobile, so bzzzzt. Step 3 it is. I bought a TL₺200 gift card via Turgame. Ended up costing AUD$17.10. Took about 10 mins for it to clear. Logged into Netflix. Fired up my VPN (Nordvpn) and connected to Turkey. Clicked on https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem and pasted in the code. Chose Premium. It then asked for me to add in a backup payment method. I chose my saved card, and it asked to send a code again. I went back and instead chose 'skip'. It then seemed fine. So my account hasn't changed, nor that for my family - everything seems the same.

Even if this only works for the one month, and I lose the TL₺69 credit I now have in my account, I reckon I'm ahead. I've paid around $17 (which I would have anyhow for my Standard account), and I'm getting Premium for the month. Thanks, OP!

    • +1

You won't lose TL₺69 as Netflix will use it up and your next payment date will be longer by TL₺69 worth of days.
Touch wood next payment will Auto deduct from your Cr/Card as well without issue.

  • +2

@ismellpennies It a dead set legend! Thank you so much my friend!

    • +1

Happy to get it working for you :)

  • I'll be trying this tomorrow, as today is last day of billing cycle. I'm on Premium plan. I bought a 100 GC , does that mean I can still sign up to premium? It will take the balance out of the cc already on the account straight away?

    • +1

      Yes correct :))
Make sure to do Part A today!!!! Confirm mobile number and credit card details

      • +1

Thanks for the quick reply, Yes I have confirmed those details, been a long standing user so those details are definitely cemented in there. I once tried it last year, using the cc method but it kept asking for TKY mobile number, this time I'll be going straight to gc method.

  • I had my expressVPN connected to Pakistan. Went into membership and it was showing Pakistan plans 1,100 premium plan, which I selected.

But on my westpac notification, I got charged Singaporean plan amount??

Got on to their chat, they said you are using VPN. So ive now cancelled the subscription.

Anyone faced the same issue? Anything I missed?

Did all this on a mobile (not a laptop)

    • Did you check what is my IP to confirm in PAK? Also when it got charged in SGD, was it equivalent to the PAK amount ? or SGD rate? I'm not an expert but those are some of the common issues I've faced when subscribing to other services, i.e. VPN showing one country while in another and these services charging the amount quoted but in another currency.

      • I didnt check my IP, missed that bit.

It charged me $24 (that's what was charged on my westpac acct.) Pakistan amount was 1100 (~$5AUD) which it was showing on Netflix.

I'll give it a go from laptop and will check my IP once connected.

        • You also have to check your account setting and see what amount and currency it says in there, or click change plans and it would show the rates. I'm guessing you have to cancel and resubscribe.

          • @nwa: Found the issue, express VPN when connected to
Pakistan gives ip 173.x.x.x then after few sedonds changes the IP to 85.x.x.x which shows Singapore. Weird!!!

Worked great, thanks, just note (as mentioned here somewhere) that if you get a Turkish gift card from Turgame it might be an 8-12 hour delay in getting the code (it was for me) here is the reason:

"Due to recent fraudulent activities, payment checks are carried out manually.
Our working hours in Turkey are from 10:00 to 02:00 except Sunday, and from 12:00 to 02:00 on Sundays. (time zone +3)
Orders received after 02:00 are delivered at the beginning of the working day, that is, from 10:00.
    Regards"

  • I changed to TKY plans, it seems like it charged up to a pro rata date if you are short on the gc amount compared to plan amount, rather than just taking the balance out of your cc.

Perhaps it would have taken the balance out of the cc straight away if I confirmed with the TKY number, but went back and just said skip this step to get it working.

Hopefully it goes smoothly come next billing date, as in charge in TL to my cc without intervention.

  • The above is very detailed and works well thank you very much, BUT I can't seem to use it and watch US Netflix. I'm using NordVPN, I can browse US shows, but it doesn't allow me to watch

    Thanks again.

    • You should be able to watch. Try and switch to another VPN provider and see if it works. Do note that some Netflix shows do appear on the site but are no longer broadcasted or viewable due to date.

  • Can we just buy a few gift cards and just redeem them all at once so that we stay subscribed for a while?

My credit card is expiring this month and it doesn't allow me to update my payment method. Needs a Turkish phone number. I asked a few of the "contact us" agents about the payment popup and they all rejected my request.

    • +1

      Yes you can

      • Hi, do we need a Turkish phone number to redeem gift cards, or can we just purchase these gift cards and redeem? I am in the same situation where my card is expired and I cannot update without a Turkish phone number.

        • +1

No. Just a matter of adding the Giftcard and credit is applied to your account.

    • Or just wait for it to expire , update CC and all.over again

      • Mine is on hold - for some reason I can still watch now - however it still asks me for the Turkish phone number with no option to skip. I'm thinking to update, I'll have to subscribe to an AU acc and start from part 1
