Everyone's favourite NordVPN has a massive cashback increase at Cashrewards for any new customers who missed out on previous deals. Offer ends Feb 13 11:59pm AEDT.

Be sure to check the terms below and TA's handy tips here

Special Terms

Cashback is eligible for new NordVPN customers only.

Cashback is eligible only on NordVPN plans, and not on any up-sold products such as NordPass & NordLocker.

Cashback may be ineligible if using codes not listed on Cashrewards, and ineligible on any payments made with Crypto currency.

Cashback is calculated and paid on the advertised cost of the plan only. It will not include any GST, taxes, credit card or PayPal surcharges.

The amount that tracks to your Cashrewards account may differ to the paid amount due to international exchange rates. Your initial payment is converted to USD, then converted back to AUD when reported to us. The advertised cashback rate is based on the reported amount, not the paid amount. Cashrewards has no control over this process.

Plus it's NordVPN's birthday, so purchase a 2 year plan to win 3 or 12 extra months of subscription time!

  • Why is it showing 68% off?

    • It's 68% off their normal price. But the cashback is 96% of whatever you pay

  • What do you use VPN mostly for?

    • Privacy and fast international speeds due to most local servers being GSL networks.

      • +5

I actually read that as “piracy”.

    • +12

Talking funny with an eye patch. Occasionally I'm joined by a parrot.

      • Occasionally I'm joined by a parrot.

He might have a bit more time for you after the election.

  • +7

I signed up for this last time. The servers are slow as crap for me!

    • which server and which time of the day?

      • +1

I've tried a few different ones all over the world. They all seem to make my connection lag like crap.

Time of day doesn't seem to matter

        • Turn off threat protection and use your local server. International servers will be crap if you are with an ISP like vocus for example

          • +1

@vodamerc: I'm on Starlink, threat protection is off. I'm in Tassie, so the closest server is Melb, connecting to that one does seem faster than international ones.

  • +9

NordVPN has been really slow these days.

  • +4

Wish there was some Cashback for ProtonVPN

    • +3

      Same….

      But ..Nordvpn

      https://au.pcmag.com/vpn/91997/nordvpn-actually-we-do-comply-with-law-enforcement-data-requests???

      • +2

Would you agree protons a better option with regards to privacy etc? I do like them as a company

    • Same or ExpressVPN

  • +3

Man this is rude, Rakuten Canada gives 100% cashback.

Y'all make sure you pick the standard plan too, as the cashback only applies on the vpn, not the bolt ons.

    • We've had a 110% cashback in the past

  • +2

A few people have said Nord has gone down the drain post their youtube campaign's. Anyone have any experience recently?

    • +1

I'm using it now to watch a live youtube stream via USA. Haven't had a hiccup. I only really use it for that and watching some BBC and Channel 4 stuff and haven't had any issues of lag or freezing.

    • +16

I had so many problems with NordVPN.
I tried it for a year (out of a three year plan) and spent majority of my time with connection drop outs, white loading screens (they never timed out or presented an error), and issues reconnecting if there was a disconnect for some reason.

I contacted their help desk 114 times in that year, where they had me try configure multiple different settings from “Auto” down to custom IPs and static connections.
They never got their product to work and refused to refund me my money saying it was “past the return window”.

I changed ISPs twice during that year also, so I know it wasn’t my provider being the problem.

      • Any idea why people are downvoting you.¿
        Serious question

        • +4

          No idea honestly.
I was sharing my personal experiences with Nord and being transparent.

There’s good and bad with all businesses/services.

However I have found some people seem to get really defensive about a business they have no personal association with, purely other than buying a product. (Think Apple v Android debate nonsense)

          • +3

@Goose93: Thanks for your reply. No idea why people downvote a civil personal opinion.

            • @TheWiggin: Try with Boost mobiles.
I got hammered by some people as I had experienced poor customer support over the phone, delayed process number to be transferred etc. Negative score for my negative experiences. It doesn't make sense but they do

              • +1

@Sabric: It's called the marketing team. Some are paid

              • @Sabric: On my third boost 365d Sim now, they are awesome. Guess some people get unlucky and Australia post loses their delivery etc

      • +1

Ive been with them for a while now, haven't encountered 1 issue.

  • +4

Pretty sure all the people complaining about slow speed have the Nord threat protection active. Straight vpn connection is always brilliant for me, only ~5% speed loss from my max connection speed. (To be expected with wireguard)

  • I seriously wonder how do they even make money.

    • +5

      Renewals

    • +2

      spying on you

  • +1

Does this VPN allow you to watch Netflix contents from other countries?

    • Yes, I've been using it for a couple of years now.

      • With any addons or standard?

      • How, if at all, Netflix new rules regarding log in location affect this?

        • +2

Just quit Netflix there’s plenty of alternatives

        • It will lock you out until you do one of three things: transfer the “extra member” to a separate account, add the “extra member” user for $x/month (one additional user for Standard plan or two additional user for Premium) or enter your vacation access code to give you 7 days of access before locking the “extra member” again.

          • @agentzero: When is all this happening?
I'm pretty sure Turkey won't be swift in implementing it?

        • Yeh, I'm canceling mine soon too.

      • Are you sure?

  • +1

Can you buy using United States, oregon location to avoid gst? Will that work with cashback?

    • +2

Yes, you should do that. use 90201

      • +4

That's California which does have state sales tax, not Oregon which doesn't.

97035 is a post code for Portland, Oregon.

        • Was going to say the same.

By the way how stable is the connection if I want to use it for torrents?

        • I used that (and others too) and worked fine.

        • Interestingly I used Oregon and didn't get charged GST. But the cashback that was confirmed assumed the amount I paid included GST, so CB was only 96% of 10/11th of the price I paid.

    • I find Antarctica a bit closer.

  • +1

Is the speed slow on the Complete plan or just the Plus plan? I notice some people are saying the servers are slow.

  • +3

I did this like 12 months ago, never got my money back.

    • +1

What did Cashrewards say when you asked them?

      • +1

They are still investigating, but it's been like that for months now

        • Cashback is terrible imo, had a few issues with cashback. Only use shop back from now on, haven't encountered any issues till now. Wait for sb offer and try again

    • +5

You sure it wasn't shopback? They are slimy af

      • Cashback are slimy af

    • Did you put in a claim?

      • Yeah they are still investigating but it's gone nowhere. I blame Norde not cash rewards

    • Plus the deal is pretty much bulletproof. If it doesn't track you cancel within 30 days for full money back.

      • +2

        Mine tracked, Nord rejected it.

    • Mine was “pending” and then I made an enquiry, a few days later no one has made a response and now it’s “rejected”. Haha like what? This is how Cashrewards customer service feels like?

      • Same thing with me, they say they are still investigating, but doubtful

  • If you already were a NordVPN customer, do you create a new NordVPN account or Cashrewards account to get cash back?

    • New nordvpn account. Have a read of TA's handy tips in the OP

      • Got it. Thanks.

  • Damn, I accidently signed up and paid for the premium options so requested a refund. But I guess if I purchase again it won't class me as a new customer anymore?

    • +1

Just use a different email. Using the same cashback account is fine as mentioned in the OP handy tips.

      • Cool thanks. Great to know.

    • @harper, I did the same mistake and requested the refund. I will use another email address if I decide to purchase it again when the offer is back later.
Can I request you to check Payment Details under Nord Account -> Billing -> Subscriptions?
I noticed the card details are wrong under my Nord acc, so I am worried where my refund will go!
      Thx.

  • Do I have to buy this to subscribe to YouTube premium in Turkey or is there a free vpn that can do the job?

    • +1

      Windscribe

  • Anybody got 12 months free? I got only 3 :(

  • This deal has links to Cashrewards referrals only but it should link NordVPN referrals too! Both referrer and referee gets an extra 3 months
So if you haven’t done it, just go to the ozbargain’s NordVPN page and get your referral! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/nordvpn.com
I suppose this could be done without breaking cashback? Can anybody confirm?

    • +5

Too risky for such a big cashback amount!

      • I sent a message to Tight arse maybe they know it it will work

        • I doubt it will work as you have come from cashrewards for the cashback to work

  • So it should be A$136.37 (2 years) *0.04 = $5.45

    • +1

Cashback doesn't include the gst component

  • Great, mine expires toward end of March, may as well get this now. Don't they offer 3y anymore (last time paid US $125 minus cashback).

    Cheers.
PS seem to get more buffering lately, using cansas city for HBO. Experienced the same on BBC iPlayer. PS threat protection off.

  • I assume the standard plan is probably the best? The add-ons (i don't want the storage) seem pretty useless (

    • +1

Yep standard. Others had to get refunds and do it again.

Cashback is eligible only on NordVPN plans, and not on any up-sold products such as NordPass & NordLocker.

Ps. was going to leave postcode blank - I think they'd know you're in AUS unless using a VPN at time of signup.
GST handy if want to claim on tax and if you need to identify your account.

  • Got it via United States, oregon for a total of usd $83.76. Cashrewards tracked it as $109.39 cashback. Haven't done the math as how much it cost me but is less than $10 for sure after all conversion fees.

    • So you paid in USD or just the postcode to avoid GST? Looking at the OP they say it converts to USD anyway so maybe it will work.

      83.76 US Dollars = 121.15986 Australian Dollars
No brainer, may as well avoid the GST as well - but thought cashback was just for aus purchases.

      • +1

Paid in usd via wise as I already had part of usd in account. Plus wise has better conversion rate.

        • +1

oh right, i've got mc and visa cards that do international for free, rates are good.
          Did your tracking come through?
Could always try out Revolut i guess.

ps. remember to cancel subscription auto-renewal in the settings (https://my.nordaccount.com/), as they try and bill ya before the exp date
pps. reckon there will be another one of these deals before mid-end March?

  • Is this reliable enough to run 24/7 on a server and have auto restart enabled?

I have a life time getflix VPN from the days when Netflix US had much better content. But it's flakey and their app doesn't auto restart. I'd consider paying for something better but only if it's actually better….

    • +1

It could be my setup but I've had a bit of trouble using the NordVPN app in a 24/7 environment. It eventually consumes huge amounts of memory and dies. I'm now using the OpenVPN client with a NordVPN config and it's rock solid. May be different for you of course but what I experienced.

      • Thanks, I guess it's worth a try then.

  • Anyone have a decent workaround to get this deal as an existing customer

    • +4

      new email address.

  • Forgive my ignorance but how do I connect to a VPN on my tv if I want to watch Netflix?

    • Easiest if you have a CCw Google TV, there's an app that runs very well in my experience.

      • Or an Amazon firestick. I have one with surfshark running 24/7.

  • +2

Make sure you disable auto renewal in settings after you set up. They auto renewed me several weeks before my subscription expired at almost 3 times the original rate. No notification before billing, no options just a big fat credit card charge.

    • This happened to my mate too - cost him a bit in card fees and chatting with them.

  • +3

    Cost $123.96
    Tracked $109.70

No GST because i live with the penguins.
    That's only 88.5% cashback.?????

    • Well there shouldn't be any GST if opted out of that by not paying it to start with
still save 10$ so either way alright.
