    Is the variable ones included?

    • I'm curious about this as well. How do we know?

    • I rang Flybuys and they didn't know

  • $30 = 600 Flybuys Points; $50 = 1,000 Flybuys Points; $100 = 2,000 Flybuys Points.

Can someone explain this part? I have seen it a few times but never understand why. Isn’t 2000 Flybuys Points redeemable for 10$?

    • $30 Gift Card will reward you 600 Flybuy Points ($30 x 20 = 600 Points)

    • Those are the gift card amounts and the 20 X Flybuys points equivalent

  • +8

Maximum gift card purchase is $500 = 10,000 Flybuys points ($50)

    • …. and for anyone wondering, the $500 purchase limit should be enforced during this deal.

I purchased $1,000 worth of Ultimate gift cards during the last 20x points deal at Coles, and:

      • The first $500 was awarded 1x standard Flybuys points and 19x bonus Flybuys points.
      • The next $500 was only awarded 1x standard Flybuys points.
      • Generous gifts lol.

You would have been angry about the second one..
10% off alright, takes ages faffing about at the registers for discount (well it does when have to go through the sb app and then prezzee for the one I converted).

        • +1

          Not really, actually.

I purchased the second $500 gift card with the express purpose of finding out whether Coles / Flybuys enforces these limits. I was going to use that $500 at a participating retailer to pay for a purchase anyway, so at least I got some points on the second purchase!

    • does the gift card come in $500 denomination?

      • No. You could get the variable load card.

  • Any for ebay?

    • +2

No, eBay does not participate in the Ultimate gift card scheme.

eBay participates in the TCN gift card scheme, but those gift cards are not part of this deal.

  • Essentially 10% cashback if you do your shopping at Coles

    • +4

Or depends on how you calculate, 9.0909% off

      • Correct. This is not a cash / upfront discount.

        • If it's not upfront discount, then shouldn't it be considered cashback?

    • -1

It says excludes coles gift cards and I can find no other cards accepted there. Please tell me how I get the 10% off at coles

      • You can redeem your FlyBuys points at coles. 2000 pints equal to $10. So $500 GC will awards you 10000 points= $50 in FlyBuys $.thus 10% savings.

  • Is there a limit of 5 cards per transaction? Or, was that only for the $20 Apple GCs promo?

    • -1

For Coles there is a hard limit of 5 cards/transaction. It was the same with Netflix, TCN, and the popular Prepaid Coles MC.

      • Per transaction or for the whole promo duration?

        • +3

Coles always enforces a purchase limit of 5 gift cards per transaction; it is a limitation built into the POS system itself, and staff cannot get around this limit (besides splitting a purchase of gift cards into multiple transactions).

There are usually also card purchase limits mentioned for deals awarding Flybuys bonus points on gift cards at Coles, but this deal is different, as there is only a points cap mentioned in the terms, rather than a gift card cap. For example, that means you could purchase ten $50 Ultimate Students gift cards during this deal and earn 20x Flybuys points on all ten gift cards, but to do this, you have to purchase the ten gift cards across at least two transactions.

  • I just rang Flybuys to ask if variable load gift cards are included. Flybuys didn't know and couldn't put me through to anyone who would know as they said no one would know! I asked to be put through to the manager and they said the manager wouldn't know either, as it is not written anywhere.

Picture in catalogue shows $50 and $100 cards but promo does not state it excludes variable load cards.

    • Just to be safe, I would recommend getting 10x$50 or 5x$100.

      • Flybuys said the same. Usually variable load cards are excluded

    • +5

but promo does not state it excludes variable load cards

… therefore this deal covers all Ultimate gift cards, including all variable load cards.

The deal is for all Ultimate gift cards, as there are no exclusions specifically listed whatsoever in the deal. Here’s how I came to that conclusion.

      1. Coles takes care to listing out exclusions in their gift card deals.

Here are some examples to consider:

      • In the 15% off Ultimate gift card deal at Coles a couple of months ago, Coles clearly stated in both the deal title and the fine print that the variable load denominations were excluded.

      • In one Ultimate gift card deal at Coles in 2022, the deal title specifically listed $50 and $100 Ultimate gift cards, and the fine print specifically excluded all $30 Ultimate gift cards.1 During that deal, I purchased $50 Ultimate Students and $50 Ultimate Home gift cards, but I still earned bonus points on those gift cards, even though they were not pictured in the catalogue.

      • In another 2022 Ultimate gift card deal at Coles, the title of the deal called out specific types of Ultimate gift cards, and Coles also wrote in the fine print “Excludes all Ultimate gift cards not mentioned above.”

      2. The most recent 20x Flybuys points deal on Ultimate gift cards at Coles included the variable load gift cards

In that deal, I purchased 2x $500 Ultimate gift cards and received 20x points on the first $500 Ultimate gift card, even though no variable load gift cards were pictured in the deal and there was no specific mention of the variable load gift cards in the fine print.

That deal and this upcoming deal have almost identical terms and conditions, so there is nothing to suggest that the variable load denomination should be excluded.

There is always a chance that Coles stuffed up by forgetting to list the variable load denomination as an exclusion, but then that is their problem, because they incorrectly advertised the deal. You cannot reasonably say you have a deal for Ultimate gift cards and then not specifically advertise an exclusion, because when you say you have a deal for Ultimate gift cards, it implies it is for any and all Ultimate gift cards. Then again, I am geared up for a fight if needed, but Coles is very rarely that bad. I usually have a lot more issues with gift card deals at Woolworths / BIG W than Coles…

      1. The variable load denomination was not mentioned in the fine print, because was not selling any variable load Ultimate gift cards at that stage.

  • Thanks @WookieMonster

  • My Fellow OzBargainers.
After 3 weeks communicating with Flybuys regarding their advertised 5000 points bonus on each colesmobile 60gb sim deal they have collectively disregarded what I have said and finally this afternoon they have magically found an email that was supposedly sent out that explicitly says that the 5000 points offered was only per account.
This is in stark contrast to the colesmobile advertisement and the coles store point of sale advertisement and flybuys own t&c's.
    Pain and simple False Advertising.
    Very Poor.
    The sims are going back.

  • Be wary that Ultimate cards dont seem to be working at online retailers they are supposed to. I'm sure the majors like JB Hifi/Officeworks/TGG are fine or we'd be seeing a lot of comments but 4/5 of smaller retailers I've tried that are supposed to work havent online (never had an issue in person) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/756339

If you have a specific retailer in mind for online purchase, it may be best to try see if someone has purchased online recently with an Ultimate card at that retailer.

    • Just swap for woolies and coles, 10% off groceries

    • I need to do online purchase from officeworks, from your comment can i say that i can use the card for officeworks online?

  • Any card fee purchasing these in store, such as other cards?

Assume can store the swapped card in Coles app or prezzee?

    • +1

There are no purchase fees associated with Ultimate gift cards.

If you want to store a virtual copy of Ultimate gift cards, you must add it to a supported mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Pay), and you add it in the same way you would add a supported Visa credit or debit card.

      • Got it, cheers. Hopefully can store the converted ones just as easily. Still a fair bit of faffing about.

  • So just to confirm….

The maximum flybuys points I can get for this promotion week period is 10,000 flybuys points? I can't do this everyday like the everyday rewards one and get 10,000 each day?
Is there a way I can purchase lower value gift cards and get more (x20) multiplier that way? Or if i get the 10,000 flybuys points the first day, then im done for the whole week?

      • yes ive already read all the comments including that one before i said this … what im trying to say you don't mention in that comment is, what happens if i purchase a different kind of gift card in the ultimate range. does it still count towards the 10,000 bonus limit?

        • Why wouldn't it, they are all ultimate gift cards :)

          • @G-rig: so i can get 10,000 bonus points on each type of gift card i purchase basically?

        • The terms and conditions of this offer provides the answer you are looking for:

BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card but up to a maximum of 10,000 points can be collected per Flybuys account.

In other words, you will only earn 20x Flybuys points on the first $500 spend on Ultimate gift cards during this promotion. Once you go over the $500 spend during this promotion, the Flybuys points earn rate will revert back to 1x Flybuys point.

What I did not mention in my comment above was that I purchased a $500 Ultimate Everyone gift card and earned 20x Flybuys points on that purchase, but when I purchased a $500 Ultimate Teens gift card the next day, I only earned 1x Flybuys point on that purchase.

Flybuys does not have per-day limits for this deal. Flybuys only has a blanket 10,000 points limit for the duration of this deal, and any purchase of Ultimate gift cards will count towards this limit.

          Does that make sense?

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Coles seem to be batch sending transaction data to fb to process the pts. If you do back to back transaction at the same store in a short period of time, there is a pretty good chance you get the bonus pts for all transactions.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: yes thank you for your explanation :)

    • Lol how many $ of gift cards you gonna sit on..

      • oh haha ive got a business. ill spend them in no time. give it a week and they will all be gone

        • Mustn't be that busy if you got time for all this ha.. 10% is 10% I suppose if your buying the stuff anyway.

  • so wait, you can't even spend ultimate gift cards at Coles?

    • That's correct, because Coles is not listed as a participating retailer.

      • Bit pointless, would be better using the 10% off essentials than looking for something you don't need to use it. The Superswap cards are better.
Either way it's a bit stuff around, just do 6 min more work on the timesheet.

  • +1

I went to my local Coles today and took a variable Ultimate gift card to the counter, and the staff insists that the variable load cards won’t attract the bonus FB points, only the fixed value ones. I get a feeling that he might be mistaken (perhaps from previous deal) from what WM stated, but didn’t want the trouble of argueing with Coles later to try to get my bonus points in case he is right, so I bought 5 x $100 cards instead.

It would be good if someone who already bought the variable load cards (or will buy them anyway because they are confident they will get the bonus points) and let us know if they got the bonus points or not.

    • +2

I am not sure if the variable cards will get the bonus although the all-knowing Wookie seems to be confident but I do know that the Coles staff have very limited knowledge of Flybuys. They always tell me not to bother scanning the Flybuys card as GC's will not get standard points yet many of them do.

      • +1

I completely agree with Yola. The staff may not have enough knowledge about flybuys or promotion.. but wookies prediction rarely missed

    • +9

I just bought a variable load card and a $100 card. I'll update you tomorrow if the points come through for both.

      • Awesome

      • if the points come through for the variable load card - would it be safe to say that we will get points for $500 variable load cards?

      • +1

        Awesome, looking for your outcome

      • +1

How much did you put on the variable card? Appreciate you taking the risk for the rest of us.

      • +3

We are all eager to hear of your report, mate. Thanks for trying it out.

    • +12

I just checked my Flybuys account and can see I have just been awarded 20x points for the $300 variable load Ultimate Everyone gift card I purchased at Coles yesterday.

      • +2

        Good thanks

      • +1

Great new! Thank you for letting us know :-)

      • Thanks for checking for us. On this basis, I bought a $500 Everyone card last night. Hopefully all goes well and the points come through. This requires no intervention on the part of the Coles check-out person other than typing in the value and loading the card (so to speak), right? It's not like we need them to enter a code to enable this offer.

        • Correct. You may even be able to purchase it at self check out.

        • +1

          From my experience…

As soon as you scan a variable load gift card at a Coles self checkout, a prompt will appear on the screen asking you how much you want to load on the gift card. There is no need to get assistance from a staff member to choose the load amount. (For reference, Woolworths sometimes requires staff to assist you to choose the load amount, and BIG W always requires staff to assist you to choose the load amount.)

The only approval required by a Coles staff member when you wanting to purchase Ultimate gift cards at a self checkout is to actually approve the purchase (and this is done before you can pay). This is standard for nearly all purchases of gift cards at Coles, and is not unique Flybuys gift card deals.

    • +9

It works on the variable cards. I just received 10,000 points for buying a $100 card and a $400 variable load card.

      • +1

Great. Thanks for letting us know

      • +1

        Well done and thank you!

  • +2

Thanks, bought one Everyone GC $500 for Officeworks.

    • Let us know if you get the bonus points, please.

      • +2

        I received 10000 points today!
It's split 500(1x normal transaction rate) and 9500(19x gift card bonus)points.

This time much faster than before.

  • +1

I have too many gift cards.
Its better to wait for $50 gift card = 2,000 flybuys points offer

  • Bonus points per flybuys account, wonder if we have joint flybuys accounts (as in x2 flybuys in one household, joint), will we still get x2 set of points of 10K each?

    • +2

No, only one set of 10,000 for the joint account
We have the same, several members linked to one account
Thinking of signing one of them individually to get more points and offers
Haven't been getting spend offers recently

      • don't think they let la if it has the same household address

        • I have several at the same address. Could be a share house.

          • @Yola: We are all linked to one account and share fuel vouchers and points
I assume you have separate accounts although at the same address

            • +1

@trixieb: Yes, separate accounts are much better. I am saying you can have several separate ones at the same address.

  • So if I go get $300 of the ultimate him cards I’ll get 10 percent ish back in flyby dollars? Is that how this works?

  • +3

Bought $500 Everyone variable card last night and received 10,000 points this afternoon

  • Hey, can i use 6x$50 ultimate Gift Cards at OfficeWorks.

  • Not sure if I need these gift cards, but got some.. oh well!
10 x $50 Ultimate "Everyone" cards as they seem to have a lot of stores

Note - Coles has a limit of 5 gift cards per purchase (not sure if per day or what other limit) so got 5 via self checkout and 5 more via the counter

Although others have reported the variable load cards also eligible for Flybuys bonus, decided not to risk it - got the $50 cards instead of using $50-$500

  • Do you still qualify for the points if you join FlyBuys now & then purchase the GC?

    • Yes. You can join and immediately print a temporary card that you can use to earn points. They will send you a plastic one that you will need to use the points you have earned.

  • Hi all, i want to buy 2000$ iPhone from jbhifi, how will this work? can someone please tell me. from above, it seems like I can only get 500$ worth of gift card on 1 Flybuys account. is there any other trick to get max value

    • Some options:

      • Use four separate Flybuys accounts.

      • Purchase JB Hi-Fi, Ultimate or TCN gift cards through other deals (e.g. Shopback).

Is there a particular reason you don't want to or cannot get the iPhone directly from Apple? Apple gift cards are currently on sale with Everyday Rewards points at Woolworths and BIG W and it would be possible to get $2,000 worth of Apple gift cards between Woolworths and BIG W using only one Everyday Rewards account.

      • Woolworths is far from my home and generally go to coles for shopping. Bought 3 gift card via 3 diff account

  • Has anyone received the bonus points on the variable Kids card or just the kid's card? I know it's listed by the OP but it's not pictured in the Catalogue. It may be that because its not specifically excluded its OK?

  • +4

This probably affects no one on OzBargain, but just in case it does…

Blackhawk Network updated the Ultimate Home and Ultimate Active & Wellness gift cards within the last 48 hours to remove a number of participating retailers:

    Ultimate Home:

    • Cotton On
    • Cotton On Body
    • Cotton On Kids
    • Factorie
    • Rubi
    • Supré

    Ultimate Active & Wellness:

    • Cotton On
    • Cotton On Kids
    • Factorie
    • Rubi
    • Supré
    • Typo

Other Ultimate gift cards remain unaffected at the time of writing this comment. For example, Typo is still on the Beauty & Spa, Everyone, Home, Students, Style/Shopping and Thanks gift cards (although don't ask me why Typo would appear on the Beauty & Spa gift card…).

  • Thanks for the update. Not familiar with how this works.
I purchased Home in Nov from Big W.
Does it mean those cards cannot be used now in those stores although at the time of purchase, they could be used.

    • +2

Yes… The only exception is rebel, Supercheap Auto and BCF. If you purchased a physical Ultimate gift card with the rebel, Supercheap Auto and/or BCF logos on the packaging, it means that gift card is still redeemable at rebel, Supercheap Auto and/or BCF, even though those retailers are being phased out of the Ultimate gift card scheme.

Btw, if a new participating retailer is added to the Ultimate gift card after you purchased it, you should be able to redeem that Ultimate gift card at that new participating retailer. For example, I purchased a couple of Ultimate Home gift cards in 2021, yet I was able to redeem it at Officeworks after Officeworks was added as a participating retailer of the Ultimate Home gift card in October 2022.

      • Thanks
