  • are there any active deals for jb gift cards?

  • I couldn’t use unidays code

  • How do you get the google one credit?

  • Still can't decide between this and Oppo Find X5 Pro.

    • Oppo is about to be superseded

    • I honestly hated my x5. Even though I liked earlier version of Oppo.

  • +1

just got back the difference from google as i ordered from google store 14 days ago.

    • +1

      Ordered last night - haiyaaaa

      (Difference was refunded :D)

  • It's amazing these deals are so rare to roll around, and then when they do, it always happens to be after a long period of no other cashback/giftcard deals to stack it with :-/

  • Thank you, the final price for me was $1151 for the 256GB. JB Hi-fi price matched and then I bought the gift card at 3% off :)
Don't use flybuys much so, I would rather have cash in hand :)

    • fantastic deal! Where did you get discounted gift cards from?

      • +2

Find a gift card portal - e.g. Macquarie Bank has a gift card store - set up a free account etc

      • +1

I got it from Macquarie bank app.

        • Yup that's the one!

  • +2

Hopefully getting close to see the 128GB end up $999 as regular price.

  • -1

400 bucks off rrp already wow. I remember they were almost 1.5k on release (for the 256 P7P)

    • +2

The RRP for the Pixel 7 Pro 256gb has always been $1449, so this discount in about $250 off at JB Hi-fi and $262 at OW.

    • The good old days are gone. You lucky to get $400 off even with a trade-in.

  • +2

Great price, especially with the Google Store credit and I have the regular Pixel 7 and it's a great phone. Can definitely recommend for people who want a high end no nonsense phone.

    • How does the Google store credit work in this? Does it give back Store points or something that I can use towards other things in the Google store / play store / music?

      Thanks

  • +3

For those with an Amex, there is a Harvey Norman offer, spend $300 get $50 back. Got it on mine and 2 supplementary cards hence $150 off. Total price $887 with an Officeworks price match.

    • They let you split the payment 3 times?

      • Yes

    • +1

what, really? I don't see any spend 300 and get 50 cash back in HN? Is this applicable in all states?

      • Possibly targeted

  • Anyone know why Officeworks doesn't appear to do catalogues any more? Haven't seen one of their website for weeks.

  • +1

Guys I have one of these and they charge so damn slooooowly

    • want to know more. Are you using an official charger? Currently have a OnePlus 5 and it charges so fast, it's a game changer for me, but heard google doesn't like those fast charge technologies.

      • -1

They say that the faster a battery charges, the faster the battery dies eventually…

        • -2

just like you with Aunty Helen…. Sorry children…

      • I got a 30w charger for it, but it actually charges at 23w. A Oneplus or Oppo would charge much faster. Google would be unbeatable if it fixed its build quality and charging speed issues.

    • +2

This is one thing they REALLY need to fix with the 8 series. 18-30w doesn't cut it in 2023 haiyaaa

    • According to DXOMark testing….

      Wired 30w charger 0-100% -> 2 hours 9 minutes
Wired 30w charger 5-minute charge -> 2 hours 34 minutes additional battery life
      Wireless 15w charger 0-100% -> 4 hours 1 minute

It's certainly not the fastest charging phone on the market, but I have to say it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Easily the best phone I've ever had.

      • +1

It's certainly not the fastest charging phone on the market

This extremely slow charging is unacceptable in 2023 for $1000 device

it doesn't bother me in the slightest

It will when you forget to charge one night.

Easily the best phone I've ever had

It's nothing special tbh, only appeals to 'clean android' lovers and 'updates'

        • -1

This extremely slow charging is unacceptable in 2023 for $1000 device

I think I actually prefer slower charging, honestly… After fast-charging my phone for two years, the capacity is about a third of what it was originally. Smashing the amps can't be healthy for the battery, however you look at it :)

          • @Talix: Honestly, you should know better. Nowadays batteries have optimized charging, for example they charge slower at night.
But sometimes you just need the phone to charge fast during the day, then you DO need the fast charging speeds.
Also, how is the capacity now at 1/3 lol, that's bollocks.

            • +5

@nikoris: @nikoris: Hey mate, nice to meet you.

I work as an ICT Sys Admin and I manage 400+ mobile devices, 1000+ laptops - All of their batteries deteriorate with time and heavy use. I am also intensely interested in the development of battery technology for cars and have tinkered with lithium cells and BMS's for work. Maybe you should read up on lithium-ion battery technology too.

Of course, phones nowadays have optimised charging. However, it is common knowledge, even outside the lithium community, that charging a lithium-ion cell faster than 1C (meaning the full capacity in an hour), is generally worse for a cell than staying between 0.5-1C. This is the case whether we are talking 18650's, a collection of cells in a pack or a pouch-cell in a phone. Charging a 5Ah battery (25wh at 5v) in 15 minutes is a lot more than that. It won't kill the battery. It probably won't even affect it that much, but it will be somewhat worse off than if charged slower, especially if done every day, even multiple times a day. A faster charge means more heat, which is inherently bad for batteries. I really don't see how I could "know better" mate.

I'm not saying it's not useful in some cases. In fact, I considered getting one of the early (Chinese release) Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Explorer, just to TRY 210W fast charge!

So, then. The choice is up to me and you, which phone to purchase… And I respect your decision. I hope you can respect me too, together with my choice of freely offering an opinion based on my understanding.

Oh, and one last thing. How do I know the capacity of the battery in my phone is about a third of when I got it? It's simple - It lasts not even a day compared to the two-days-sometimes-more what it used to. That's about third last I checked. The question is not whether my claim about capacity is true, but whether it would be any different had I not fast-charged it every day for those two years :)

              See you later

    • If you are in a room with a cool temperature, your phone is not hot and you are using a fast charger and still, it's not fast enough then you can't do much. Pretty much the same case with iPhones as google likes to follow apple's suit.
when your phone is hot, it gets even slower. so cool it down with something.

  • Thanks ordered one :)

  • +4

Had this phone for about 3 months now.

Some of the best UI around. Clean and easy to use. Fantastic photos processing. Definitely recommended at this price point.

Though the battery isn't the best, finding myself reaching for charger quite often at the end of the day. Coming from Samsung Note 10+

    • Nice!

    • +1

I found Pixel 7 pro has some mildly annoying bug. For example, the touch screen sometimes not responsive where I need to touch different part of the screen first to fix the issue.

      • Yeah but it is 'clean'

  • -4

Don't buy a pixel. Fingerprint scanner is trashhhhhh

    • Fingers crossed this gets significantly improved on this years 8 series. Upvoted you to remove the neg lol

    • I've never once had mine fail on me - owned since the week of launch. Quick and painless every time.

In fact, I've owned nearly every Pixel model and never once had a single issue with any of the fingerprint readers….

      • Out of curiosity do you have a tempered glass screen protector on yours? And do you have the Pro or regular model?

        • I have the Pro model, without a screen protector.

          • @klaw81: Fair enough. I have it with a screen protector, and have turned on sensitivity mode, but its still only (at best) about 80% accurate.

            • @Trishool: That’s the same with my Samsung, glass protector that said works with fingerprint sensor… only worked half the time at best.

    • I have ran mine with and without screen protector and found finger print scanner to be great. You might be confusing yourself with the Pixel 6

    • +1

even with a glass screen protector on, FP reader always works 10 out of 10 times, real fast!

Pixel 7/Pro have a brand new FP reader hardware that is lighting fast and reliable. My last phone was a Pixel 6 Pro. FP reader was only a bit slower than on P7 Pro, but never failed reading my FP.

    • Fingerprint scanner on my P7P is better than my S23U.

  • 7 pro or 23 ultra?

    • +2

If you have budget definitely S23 Ultra

    • +1

Both are great phones. S23 Ultra has a much better battery life due to more efficient CPU. Apart from that, the only downside on Samsung is OneUI, which some people (me included) cannot stand. A pure, Google experience is what attracted me to Pixel series. Never regretted buying any Pixel phone.
S23 Ultra is also much more expensive. Not sure if it's worth the extra $$$

    • +2

Depends what you value. If you value a bargain, then Pixel 7 pro with the above hacks will only cost $900. S23 ultra is not worth paying twice as much for a slightly better phone. If you value having the best phone then get the ultra.

    • +1

Wait for Googles P8 to challenge the S23

    • +1

Completely depends on whether or not you have the extra money for the Samsung. The ultra is by most margins the superior phone (camera comparisons seem to depend on the reviewer), but is it worth the extra money? Probably not unless you are desperate to have the absolute latest greatest and best.

I am mostly speaking to myself because I have grown very tired of my Fold 3 and all of its quirks. I'm looking to go back to a standard slab phone which I believe will suit my purposes better. I would love to get the ultra but just can't quite justify the price at the moment. Might be grabbing myself a pixel instead for now. At least I know the camera is outstanding.

    • +1

Different price bracket. I'm currently upgrading my P7P to S23 ultra. Depends on how much you want to spend. If you only need a good camera in a phone P7P is a better buy(I found magic eraser feature on pixel is soo good). But if you also value performance amongst with other things then s23 ultra is better.

      • -1

If you only need a good camera in a phone P7P is a better buy

This is a terrible argument. Literally same gen phones, pixels isn't THAT better in pictures to make it a standout. You can get magic eraser with third party apps, i have excellent results with my iphone.
On the other hand, Samsung wins hands down and trashing the pixel in so many categories.

        • That's why I said different price bracket. If you're only needing a good camera phone why spend $2k when you can get P7pro for half the price that is nearly as good.

      • Both have magic eraser, as with the past 2 generations of the S line.

        • My mistake then, still haven't got my S23 ultra on hand yet. Hopefully it'll as good or better than the pixel.

      • I was thinking the same but then again I used one for a day and then changed my mind.
Even with all the promotions I had to spend min $800 extra on top of trading my 7pro.

    • Why is there even a debate? There's a clear winner here

  • Best $678 phone I've bought.

  • Would've jumped on this because of the great reviews but saw some durability tests that were worrying (easily scratched chrome coating and looks a bit flimsy at the camera area). Instead will get 50% off s23 ultra through a relative that works at Telstra. Works out around the same price as the Pro.

  • Let me tell ya, the Pixel 7 Pro is an absolute ripper of a phone. The hardware and software are a right masterpiece, and it's no wonder that it's one of the best phones out there. The camera system is fair dinkum top-notch, using all sorts of smart machine learning gizmos to capture stunning snaps in any kind of light. And don't get me started on the Snapdragon 895 processor - it's a true blue powerhouse that runs like a dream and won't leave ya hanging. The Adreno 730 GPU keeps everything looking sharp and running smooth as a baby's bum, so you can play your favourite games without a hitch.

Now, let's talk about the display. The Pixel 7 Pro's OLED display is a real beauty, with a full-on resolution of 3120x1440 and a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It's a bonza experience that'll leave ya gobsmacked, no worries.

The best part? You can get the Pixel 7 Pro for a fair dinkum good price right now. JB HIFI has some cracking deals that you can stack with discounted gift cards, and the Google Store is offering 10% back as Google One Credit if you sign up for the 2TB plan. So if you're keen as a bean for a top-notch phone that'll knock your socks off, the Pixel 7 Pro is the way to go. Get on it!

    • +1

Righto cobber! Absolute rip snorter of a review.

On a serious note, I'm admittedly a big fan of Pixel phones having owned a 3XL and 5 previously. I've recently bought the 7 and have been very happy with the phone.

The cameras, screen and build quality are all stand outs and clear improvements from previous generations. I was slightly annoyed with the in screen fingerprint reader which was fairly crap for the first week but it's had a miraculous turn around. For the first week I had to try 3-4 times and resort to pin input but now it works 8-9/10 times. It doesn't compare to the rear ceramic reader on the 5 but I'm not too fussed now.

The charging is fine. It's certainly not slow and if you're complaining about it, you've got too much time on your hands. The software is as expected. Clean, crisp Android.

If you want a premium Android experience, go for this on sale! You won't regret it. I had the S22 briefly (from a HN deal) but sold it quickly as I was very disappointed in the performance. Namely camera shutter lag, didn't like how images were processed (I know, subjective), heating up too quickly and battery life.

  • Anyone can recommend a good case with Magsafe for Pixel Pro?
    Cheers

    • I use the quadlock and it's great for my bike/motorbike too. I also added the ring holder thing. I was tossing up between the quad lock and the peak design case for their attachment capabilities.

    • If you can get Peak Design, it's fantastic

  • For those who have the phone, maybe you can help me. Whenever I'm watching a YouTube video on my phone and pause it, it makes a notification noise, then if I play the video, it makes another notification noise. It's really frustrating and I've already turned off notification from these apps.

  • +1

Is the camera lens cracking an issue? It's got me worried given doesn't seem to be covered by warranty.

    • Seems to be affecting a very small percentage of users…

  • Folks, what protective glass are you using? Is it perfectly fit the screen size?
    Cheers

  • looks like there is an extra discount with this

Awesome, it wasn't there yesterday! Will update OP again

      • can't we use 10% off on google store from that link?

  • Surpised the interest is relatively small? just a bit over $1000 and no one is biting?

    • +4

It's already been on offer a bunch of times

  • My Pro is screwed. Green screen and blurred text after a small update. Returning

  • People are reporting it stacks with the 5% [Unidays, Student Beans] codes and if you sign up to a months 2TB google one plan before purchasing a month later get a 10% store credit. So for maximum savings at least prior to checkout consider buying from google (unless something better comes up that is).

    • Yup, it's all in the OP :)

      • I'm just making it clear the google stores the better deal while all 3 promos are running/working/stackable. I brought mine in store and got the google promo plus a small additional discount. Wish my local big box store carried google mobile I always get the best prices there.

  • Jb hifi is giving a trade in bonus of $200 towards pixels. Traded in my broken s21 for $60 + got $200 bonus for the trade in. Pixel 7a plus costed me less than $800.

    • Pixel 7a fouiyohhhh
