Great price, if only it had local warranty support.

Btw, does anyone know if Sony TVs can play .mkvs, avis?

    • yep my 2010 model can.

      • Ah cool. My 2008 model sony TV doesn't play any videos naturally. Gotta play them through an xbox or media player.

    • +1

      My 2012 model doesn't play mkv's

    • +1

I think the answer is no. I have this model.

  • +1

yeah warrnty the issue but I bought an onyko amp from these guys and the savings from buying it here was more than half price so worth the risk as I could just buy another one from amazon.de after the first one broke and still be saving money than buying local!

Shipping is amazing fast via DHL, i got my amp in under 5 days, however they did leave it at the front door unattended but I did get confirmation it was sitting there so was able to race home

Just be careful buying TVs from Europe. I brought my tv back from the UK and it had trouble picking up channels/sound with the inbuilt digital tuner. That was a couple of years ago so may now be fixed but remember it being a hassle at the time.

    • That should not happen anymore - my TV works fine.

    • +1

Europe uses different frequencies for digital TV. These frequencies are not compatible. So unless the tv supports both standards, it will not work. I found out by buying a set top box for someone in another country (fortunately it could be flashed to different firmware).

I would not buy this tv unless I knew for sure it would work here.

      • +1

i install these all the time and it asks you which region of the world your in, then your country, then your area/state before starting the channel tuning process. so it can tune all channels worldwide fine.

      • Worst case scenario you could just plug in a set top box and watch tv through that.

    • my just arrived Toshiba 40" works fine to pick up Australian channels.

Is the price in EUR or AUD or USD? I think this is EUR which when converted to AUD is not a bargain

    • its the AUD price I think, VAT will be taken out at checkout, off the advertised price of EUR 749.

    • The UK that 20% VAT tax comes off on checkout. Not sure if tax comes off ordering on the DE site tho?

      • +1

        Answer: Yes!

  • +2

This is Australian dollars including delivery! Ozbargain is an Australian site - therefore the defualt is local currency unless otherwise stated explicitly.

    • +3

should be obvious really with the $ sign and the other page being EURO.

Some people gotta learn to think for themselves

    • Total amount: EUR 669.41
      Invoice amount: AU$ 820.48

      How do you get $790?

      • I think he might've just gone to XE and did a conversion?

        • Yes, I went to www.oanda.com (this is what European Commission uses officially) and id a conversion. I never use the Amazon conversion service as they (and other companies) try to make some money off that, too.

  • Great TV and good price too, got mine for around $850 during the infamous Auspost/Good Guys gift card sale. Doesn't look like there's anywhere selling it locally within $2-300 at the moment. This model also has the USB recording function that was taken out of the Aussie version for who knows what reason.

    • +4

Australia = pay more, get less.

      • Totally agree, removing the record function is downright pathetic.

  • -1

    46'!
    Biggest. TV. Ever.

Haha I'm going to assume 117cm is the correct measurement here :P

  • +1

Dammit I'm so tempted. What happens if it DOA's though???

Arrgh might just pay the extra $400 and get a Panna ST50A locally…

    • +2

According to other post dealing with Amazon Germany you just send it back - they pay the postage - just check other posts on Ozbargain - it is in there somewhere.

  • Why is it keep saying my address can not be deliveried?

    • +1

I put my address in street address in Brisbane and it worked fine. Maybe you put a post box?

  • +1

also just beware of differences in DVB-T technologies used in different countries.. I'm not familiar with what they use in Germany, but check that it works with Australia!

You might end up getting a TV that you can't watch free-to-air TV with!

    • Again, it should be fine. Mine works so I assume the standard is the same. One can always read up on DVD-T on wikipedia.
Australia is normally very much the same as Europe (except for DVD region) - Bluray is the same, PAL, game discs are the same etc.

    • Use the savings to buy a PVR and use that as a tuner.

      • …and skip all the crappy ads.

  • +1

picked up one of these for $800 from goodguys a few months ago.. does anyone know where i can find 3D glasses at a decent price.. Amazon won't ship 3d glasses

    • +3

meh if it was that cheap months ago locally I've lost interest in this deal…

    • receipt?

    • It was never $800. You probably used the gift cards that were being sold at Australia Post for 20% less than face value.

If you're after 3D glasses, check eBay. There are a few Australian sellers selling the rechargeable Sony TDG-BR250 glasses for around AU $80.

  • +1

    i love you op :)

Can this fit in checked luggage at the airport?

    • +1

Depends on how big your suitcase is and if you fly first class! :-)

  • Hmm, Guys could you tell me which would be better? This, Or the samsung ps51e550 for around $780?
    http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/190199/HOME_ENTERTAINMENT_PLASMA…

    • That's a plasma for one. More of a personal thing, but I dislike plasmas, would always choose an LCD LED over plasma.

      • +3

def a personal thing then.. lol

      • +1

I know its a plasma, But I'm thinking it includes 3d glasses, Full AUSTRALIAN warranty, 51 inches compared to 46. Im just wondering about the difference in PQ between the 2. and also 3d quality difference.

        • My old 42" pana plasma gave up just recently and I'm after a new one, anything will do, LED/LCD/Plasma. It is hard to find any stock with any retailer at the moment for ps51e550 (around $800), AFAIK possibly mid august in places I've called in Sydney but nothing confirmed. This seems to be a good deal and I find it hard not to go for it. Of course it is fairly oldish model already and I'd prefer to have those extra few inches…don't we always… most likely will see if there will be any stock for Samsung in few weeks time and if not, then wait for another killer deal from Germany :o)

    • 60 kg shipping weight ? WTF..

      • I had a look and it is only 23 kg including packaging: Produktgewicht inkl. Verpackung: 23 Kg

    • -1

I have this exact model but e550 not d550.

Beautiful image quality, good compatibility for playing mp4/mkv/etc through network and usb. But that price isn't anything super special (mine was ~$850 a year ago).

  • -6

Warning! Top review is only one star! See the (Google Translation )

  • -1

    please find a 50plus inches 3d+smart led/lcd tv at under $800 delivered!

i checked the 46/47inch tvs in jb, and reckon i will not be satisfied with the size, although they are bigger than my current 40 inch Sony.

    • If you want that price on a 50 inch, I think plasma or no-name-bad-quality are your only options.

  • Great deal.

some brand TV in Germany might not receive australia channels, and you can have a look LG 47LK950S, which need hack setting.

But some working well, like Toshiba TV.

    hopefully sony TV also working.

    • I brought that LG one and it works fine. It got all of the channels out of the box, without being "Hacked". 95% of modern TV's use the C-13 plug which is the same one on your desktop computer and many appliances.
I have dealt with amazon before and they have amazing customer service.
I prefer the passive LG 3D over this Sony active shutter vision and with a large family forking out $50 for a set of glasses is another issue.

  • all these plus votes and i bet no one bought one.

  • A few quick Q's before I drop some $$$ on this TV.

    1) Warranty. Would it be Sony International warranty?

    2) Any issues with picking up Australian TV channels?

EDIT: Whilst still a good price, it appears it was going for $699 EUR a few months ago D:
    http://de.camelcamelcamel.com/Sony-KDL-46EX720BAEP-3D-Edge-L…

    • Why do you label yourself a rep with Amazon when you ask questions like these?

      • +1

I accidentally had the rep option ticked when I was using my phone earlier today :/ I untick it yet it still remains :(

  • Does this use an Aussie or German plug?

    • Definitely not an Aust plug.

      • Euro plug. You'd need an adapter (as a minimum) to use this set here.

        • A lot of TVs these days have a C-13 type connection for the AC plug. Just ditch the Euro cable and use an Australian one (same as one for a PC power supply). Not sure if this would be the case for this Sony?

  • this might be a silly question, but how do I find out what can or cannot be delivered from amazon.de to Aus

  • +1

To tryonthis: Yes, German plug but all you need is an adaptor for the plug. Even if it has been cheaper before that is no good to you if you cannot get it anymore for this price. The Xbox Kinect bundles have been cheaper last Christmas, too but that is no good if you want to buy it now, or is it?!?

To mgowen: I read German fluently and this is just one review (many others are very postive hence the overall assessment). It also actually states that it has a beautiful picture with the Samsung panel. I would think that Sony has taken the problem on and just uses Samsung now. Also, there is manufacturer warranty (which should be global) and two year "warranty" prescribed by law in Germany. As stated before, I believe I have read that Amazon will pay for returning it should you not be satisfied (see my post above).

To dookun: It is just try and error - that is what I do. Generally Samsung, LG, Philipps, Acer, Asus, Thomson, Sandisk products will not be sent to OZ by Amazon. However, Sony, Microsoft, and Toshiba products seem to be OK to be sent to Australia. I might be wrong but that is my experience so far.

  • A very nice TV.. I bought it A$1000 from Domayne early this year

  • +1

Anything else worth purchasing from Amazon DE considering the postage (below 1000 EUR) is capped?

    • +5

      http://www.amazon.de/LG-47LW5400-LED-Backlight-Fernseher-Ene…

      $100~ cheaper, LG 47" LCD/LED 100hz, 3D Smart TV

      • Awesome. Thanks. How do I find an English specs / reviews page.

      • Wow, very nice. Compared to the Bravia, which would be better?

      • +2

I am tempted to buy this and on the final page of check out….. Should I or Should't I…Ohhhh.. I am really confused… LG 47 3D @ around 715 AUD……

Taking a deep breath and thinking with cool mind ……. :)

        • do it! :P

        • Me too. It's taking impulse buying to a whole new level.
I'm trying decide between the Bravia the OP posted or this LG 47" wbeer posted. Decisions, decisions :/

        • +1

I closed the page and planning to shut down my system as well…. Not coming to OZB for a month….decided… My small house has become a factory warehouse now ….. from toothpaste squeezer to external Hard disks….

Best of luck guys….. Grab it ……. :)

        • I wouldnt go the Sony- read the top rated review: You either get a good samsung panel or a cheap third party one. Too much risk.

        • I also feel LG is good and worth taking the risk of buying from overseas. LG TVs seems to be solid built and reliable.

        • That's true for Sony Bravia's too. Ugh, I'll never make a decision, haha.

        • +1

These LGs are Polish-built TVs, much better than the rubbish we get here in Oz. Good quality IMHO as I have the LCD version of the 47". 7 3D glasses included too, plugs can be changed, has a triple tuner and region can be changed to Australia, about $100 cheaper than the Sony which by no means is an outstanding TV, MCI400Hz. I'd do it. In fact I did it!

        • +1

well…… I decided to go ahead and now bought LG 47….. :)

          I hope $700 spent is a worth spending…..

Seems only 5 units available now….

        • +1

I went ahead and purchased this unit too. I know at least 6 other people did too! Wow, that was an impulse purchase. What sort of price would a unit like that sell for in Aust (JB Hi-Fi for example)?

        • +1

had a quick look at the GoodGuys and other places before buying and costs min of $1300+ for LG 47" 3D… no doubt.

        • A very good purchase then!

As someone who is new to using Euro appliances, what adapter will I need in order for it work in Aust? Any old one off eBay or are there better alternatives?

edit: voltages are the same, yes?

        • +1

Pinch your spare computer cable and you'll be sorted! Yes same voltage. LG TVs are built Chinese style with generic software and hardware components where possible.

      • $100~ cheaper, LG 47" LCD/LED 100hz, 3D Smart TV

One caveat. If you care about 3D, LG uses passive 3D, which is only half resolution. Active 3D looks a lot better. The glasses are expensive, but you do get a pair with your TV.

      • All gone, thanks for the heads up bro. You are a dead set champ!

  • Has anyone bought this?
    How long will shipping take?

    • Usually less than a week.

  • +2

Re: post back shipping for warranty purposes with amazon, anything under $40 (US I guess), item is yours to keep and they will send you the new one. Anything above, you ship and pay then they will refund the cost. This I can confirm after a long chat with Amazon rep confirming warranty/shipping cost. FYI
